As-Saffat

Those who set the Ranks · 182 verses

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Play surah
37:1

وَٱلصَّـٰٓفَّـٰتِ صَفًّا

Wassaaaffaati saffaa

By the ones lined up (forming lines) in rows

Tafseer · verses 1–84
37:2

فَٱلزَّٰجِرَٰتِ زَجْرًا

Fazzaajiraati zajraa

And the rebuking (Angels) rebuking

37:3

فَٱلتَّـٰلِيَـٰتِ ذِكْرًا

Fattaaliyaati Zikra

And the reciters of the Zikr

37:4

إِنَّ إِلَـٰهَكُمْ لَوَٰحِدٌ

Inna Illaahakum la Waahid

Surely, your God is One

37:5

رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ

Rabbus samaawaati wal ardi wa maa bainahumaa wa Rabbul mashaariq

Lord of the skies and the earth and what is between them, and Lord of the Easts

37:6

إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَآءَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ ٱلْكَوَاكِبِ

Innaa zaiyannas samaaa 'ad dunyaa bizeenatinil kawaakib

Surely, We Adorned the sky of the world with an adornment of the planets

وَحِفْظًا مِّن كُلِّ شَيْطَـٰنٍ مَّارِدٍ

Wa hifzam min kulli Shaitaanim maarid

And a protection from every rebellious Satan

37:8

لَّا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى ٱلْمَلَإِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٍ

Laa yassamma 'oona ilal mala 'il a'alaa wa yuqzafoona min kulli jaanib

They cannot listen to the exalted assembly and they are being pelted at from every side

37:9

دُحُورًا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌ

Duhooranw wa lahum 'azaabunw waasib

Being repelled, and for them is an eternal Punishment

37:10

إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ ٱلْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌ

Illaa man khatifal khatfata fa atba'ahoo shihaabun saaqib

Except (for the) one who violates the caution, so there pursues him a shooting star

فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَهُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَم مَّنْ خَلَقْنَآ ۚ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُم مِّن طِينٍ لَّازِبٍۭ

Fastaftihim ahum ashaddu khalqan am man khalaqnaa; innaa khalaqnaahum min teenil laazib

So, ask them, are they stronger as a creation or (other) ones We Created? We Created them from sticky clay

بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَ

Bal'ajibta wa yaskharoon

But, you wonder, while they are mocking

وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ لَا يَذْكُرُونَ

Wa izaa zukkiroo laa yazkuroon

And when they are reminded, they are not heeding

37:14

وَإِذَا رَأَوْا۟ ءَايَةً يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ

Wa izaa ra aw Aayatany yastaskhiroon

And when they see a Sign, they incite one another to mock

وَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ

Wa qaalooo in haazaa illaa sihrum mubeen

And they say, ‘This is only clear sorcery

أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ

'A-izaa mitnaa wa kunnaa turaabanw wa 'izaaman 'a innaa lamab'oosoon

What! When we are dead and have become dust and bones, (how come) would we be revived?

أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ

Awa aabaa'unal awwaloon

Or our forefathers, the former ones?

قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنتُمْ دَٰخِرُونَ

Qul na'am wa antum daakhiroon

Say: ‘Yes! And you shall be humiliated

37:19

فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ فَإِذَا هُمْ يَنظُرُونَ

Fa innamaa hiya zajra tunw waahidatun fa izaa hum yanzuroon

But rather, it would only be a single scream, and then they will be looking on

وَقَالُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَا هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ

Wa qaaloo yaa wailanaa haazaa Yawmud-Deen

they shall say, ‘O woe be unto us! This is the Yuun ul Deen (Day of Religion is the Day of covenant)

هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ

Haazaa Yawmul Faslil lazee kuntum bihee tukaziboon

This is the Day of the Decision which you were belying with

37:22

۞ ٱحْشُرُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ وَأَزْوَٰجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْبُدُونَ

Uhshurul lazeena zalamoo wa azwaajahum wa maa kaanoo ya'budoon

They will be Gathered together, those who were unjust and their wives, and whatever they were worshipping

مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَٱهْدُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

Min doonil laahi fahdoohum ilaa siraatil Jaheem

Besides Allah. So, lead them to the path of the Blazing Fire

وَقِفُوهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُم مَّسْـُٔولُونَ

Wa qifoohum innahum mas'ooloon

And stop them! They have to be Questioned

مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ

Maa lakum laa tanaasaroon

What is the matter with you that you are not helping each other?

بَلْ هُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ

Bal humul Yawma mustaslimoon

But they, on the Day, would be submissive

وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ

Wa aqbala ba'duhum 'alaa ba'diny yatasaaa'aloon

And some of them would advance towards others, questioning

37:28

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَأْتُونَنَا عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ

Qaalooo innakum kuntum taatoonanaa 'anil yameen

They would say, ‘You used to come to us from the right’

قَالُوا۟ بَل لَّمْ تَكُونُوا۟ مُؤْمِنِينَ

Qaaloo bal lam takoonoo mu'mineen

They would say, ‘But you did not become Momineen

وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيْكُم مِّن سُلْطَـٰنٍۭ ۖ بَلْ كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا طَـٰغِينَ

Wa maa kaana lanaa 'alaikum min sultaanim bal kuntum qawman taagheen

And there wasn’t any authority for us upon you, but you were a transgressing people

37:31

فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَآ ۖ إِنَّا لَذَآئِقُونَ

Fahaqqa 'alainaa qawlu Rabbinaaa innaa lazaaa'iqoon

So, the Word of our Lord proved True upon us. We shall be tasting (the Punishment as well)

فَأَغْوَيْنَـٰكُمْ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَـٰوِينَ

Fa aghwainaakum innaa kunnaa ghaaween

So, we led you astray, as we happened to have strayed (ourselves)’

فَإِنَّهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ

Fa innahum Yawma'izin fil'azaabi mushtarikoon

Thus, they would be sharing in the Punishment on that Day

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ

Innaa kazaalika naf'alu bil mujrimeen

Surely, like that do We Deal with the Criminals

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوٓا۟ إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ

Innahum kaanooo izaa qeela lahum laaa ilaaha illal laahu yastakbiroon

They, when it was said to them, ‘There is no god except Allah’, were being arrogant

37:36

وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُوٓا۟ ءَالِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَّجْنُونٍۭ

Wa yaqooloona a'innaa lataarikooo aalihatinaa lishaa'irim majnoon

And they were saying, ‘Should we leave our gods for an insane poet?’

37:37

بَلْ جَآءَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

bal jaaa'a bilhaqqi wa saddaqal mursaleen

But, he came with the Truth and ratified the (former) Rasools

37:38

إِنَّكُمْ لَذَآئِقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْأَلِيمِ

Innakum lazaaa'iqul 'azaabil aleem

You will be tasting the painful Punishment

37:39

وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

Wa maa tujzawna illaa maa kuntum ta'maloon

And you will not be Recompensed except for what you had been doing

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen

Except for the sincere servants of Allah

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ رِزْقٌ مَّعْلُومٌ

Ulaaa'ika lahum rizqum ma'loom

They, for them is a known sustenance

37:42

فَوَٰكِهُ ۖ وَهُم مُّكْرَمُونَ

Fa waakihu wa hum mukramoon

Fruits, and they shall be Honoured

37:44

عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ

'Alaa sururim mutaqaa bileen

Facing each other upon thrones

37:45

يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍۭ

Yutaafu 'alaihim bikaasim mim ma'een

A bowl of spring water shall be made to go round them

37:46

بَيْضَآءَ لَذَّةٍ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ

Baidaaa'a laz zatil lish shaaribeen

White, delicious for the drinkers

37:47

لَا فِيهَا غَوْلٌ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنزَفُونَ

Laa feehaa ghawlunw wa laa hum 'anhaa yunzafoon

There being neither any adverse effects in it nor would they be intoxicated from it

37:48

وَعِندَهُمْ قَـٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرْفِ عِينٌ

Wa 'indahum qaasiraatut tarfi 'een

And in their presence would be the hosts of the lovely eyes

37:49

كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَيْضٌ مَّكْنُونٌ

Ka annahunna baidum maknoon

As if they were concealed eggs (pure white)

37:50

فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ

Fa aqbala ba'duhum 'alaa badiny yatasaaa 'aloon

Then some of them shall advance to others, questioning.

قَالَ قَآئِلٌ مِّنْهُمْ إِنِّى كَانَ لِى قَرِينٌ

Qaala qaaa'ilum minhum innee kaana lee qareen

A speaker from among them shall say, ‘Surely there was a comrade of mine

37:52

يَقُولُ أَءِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُصَدِّقِينَ

Yaqoolu 'a innaka laminal musaddiqeen

Who was saying, ‘What! Are you (from among) authenticated ones?

أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَدِينُونَ

'A-izaa mitnaa wa kunnaa turaabanw wa 'izaaman 'a innaa lamadeenoon

What! When we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be brought to Judgment?’’

قَالَ هَلْ أَنتُم مُّطَّلِعُونَ

Qaala hal antum muttali'oon

He shall say, ‘Do you not notice?’

فَٱطَّلَعَ فَرَءَاهُ فِى سَوَآءِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

Fattala'a fara aahu fee sawaaa'il Jaheem

So, he would look down and would see him in the evenness of the Blazing Fire

قَالَ تَٱللَّهِ إِن كِدتَّ لَتُرْدِينِ

Qaala tallaahi in kitta laturdeen

He shall say, ‘By Allah! You almost ruined me,

37:57

وَلَوْلَا نِعْمَةُ رَبِّى لَكُنتُ مِنَ ٱلْمُحْضَرِينَ

Wa law laa ni'matu Rabbee lakuntu minal muhzareen

And had it not been for the Favour of my Lord, I would have been from the ones present (in Hell)

أَفَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَيِّتِينَ

Afamaa nahnu bimaiyiteen

‘Is it so we would not be dying

37:59

إِلَّا مَوْتَتَنَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ

Illa mawtatanal oola wa maa nahnu bimu'azzabeen

Except our first death, and we shall not be Punished?’

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ

Inna haazaa lahuwal fawzul 'azeem

Surely, this is the mighty success’

لِمِثْلِ هَـٰذَا فَلْيَعْمَلِ ٱلْعَـٰمِلُونَ

Limisli haaza falya'ma lil 'aamiloon

For the like of this, so let the workers be working

أَذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ نُّزُلًا أَمْ شَجَرَةُ ٱلزَّقُّومِ

Azaalika khairun nuzulan am shajaratuz Zaqqoom

Is that better as a lodging or the tree of Zaqqum?

37:63

إِنَّا جَعَلْنَـٰهَا فِتْنَةً لِّلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

Innaa ja'alnaahaa fitnatal lizzaalimeen

We Made it a fitna for the unjust

37:64

إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ تَخْرُجُ فِىٓ أَصْلِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

Innahaa shajaratun takhruju feee aslil Jaheem

It is a tree which comes out in the roots of the Blazing Fire

37:65

طَلْعُهَا كَأَنَّهُۥ رُءُوسُ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ

Tal'uhaa ka annahoo ru'oosush Shayaateen

Its emerging fruit is like the heads of the satans

37:66

فَإِنَّهُمْ لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ

Fa innahum la aakiloona minhaa famaali'oona minhal butoon

So, they would be eating from it, and they would be filling their bellies from it

ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمْ عَلَيْهَا لَشَوْبًا مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ

Summa inna lahum 'alaihaa lashawbam min hameem

Then indeed, for them upon it would be a mixture from scalding water

37:68

ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرْجِعَهُمْ لَإِلَى ٱلْجَحِيمِ

Summa inna marji'ahum la ilal Jaheem

Then indeed, their return shall be to the Blazing Fire

إِنَّهُمْ أَلْفَوْا۟ ءَابَآءَهُمْ ضَآلِّينَ

Innahum alfaw aabaaa'ahum zaaalleen

They found their fathers straying

37:70

فَهُمْ عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَـٰرِهِمْ يُهْرَعُونَ

Fahum 'alaa aasaarihim yuhra'oon

But, they still rushed upon their tracks

37:71

وَلَقَدْ ضَلَّ قَبْلَهُمْ أَكْثَرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

Wa laqad dalla qablahum aksarul awwaleen

And most of the former ones before had gone astray

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِم مُّنذِرِينَ

Wa laqad arsalnaa feehim munzireen

And We Sent warners among them

37:73

فَٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ

Fanzur kaifa kaana 'aaqibatul munzareen

Then look, how was the end result of the warned ones

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen

Except the sincere servants of Allah

37:75

وَلَقَدْ نَادَىٰنَا نُوحٌ فَلَنِعْمَ ٱلْمُجِيبُونَ

Wa laqad naadaanaa Noohun falani'mal mujeeboon

And Noah had called out to Us, and We are the best of the responders

37:76

وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلْكَرْبِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

Wa najjainaahu wa ahlahoo minal karbil 'azeem

And We Rescued him and his family from the great distress

وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُۥ هُمُ ٱلْبَاقِينَ

Wa ja'alnaa zurriyyatahoo hummul baaqeen

And We Made his offspring to be the survivors

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

Wa taraknaa 'alaihi fil aakhireen

And upon it, We Left (his mention to be) among the later ones

37:79

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحٍ فِى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

Salaamun 'alaa Noohin fil 'aalameen

Greetings be upon Noah among the nations

37:80

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

Innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen

Surely, like that do We Recompense the good doers

37:81

إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Innahoo min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen

He was from Our Momineen servants

37:82

ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ

Summa aghraqnal aakhareen

Then We Drowned the others

37:83

۞ وَإِنَّ مِن شِيعَتِهِۦ لَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ

Wa inna min shee'atihee la Ibraaheem

And indeed, from his Shias, was Ibrahim

37:84

إِذْ جَآءَ رَبَّهُۥ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ

Iz jaaa'a Rabbahoo bi qalbin saleem

When he came to his Lord with an unblemished heart

37:85

إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦ مَاذَا تَعْبُدُونَ

Iz qaala li abeehi wa qawmihee maazaa ta'budoon

When he (Ibrahim) said to his (adopted) father and his people: ‘What is it that you are worshipping?

أَئِفْكًا ءَالِهَةً دُونَ ٱللَّهِ تُرِيدُونَ

A'ifkan aalihatan doonal laahi tureedoon

Is it a falsehood - gods besides Allah - that you want?

فَمَا ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

Famaa zannukum bi Rabbil'aalameen

What are then your thoughts about the Lord of the worlds?’

فَنَظَرَ نَظْرَةً فِى ٱلنُّجُومِ

Fanazara nazratan finnujoom

Then he looked with a consideration among the stars

فَتَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ مُدْبِرِينَ

Fatawallaw 'anhu mudbireen

So, they went away from him, turning back

37:91

فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِهِمْ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ

Faraagha ilaaa aalihatihim faqaala alaa taakuloon

Then he turned aside to their gods and said: ‘Will you not be eating?

مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنطِقُونَ

Maa lakum laa tantiqoon

What is the matter with you all, you are not speaking?’

فَرَاغَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضَرْبًۢا بِٱلْيَمِينِ

Faraagha 'alaihim darbam bilyameen

Then he turned against them, striking them with the right hand

فَأَقْبَلُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ يَزِفُّونَ

Fa aqbalooo ilaihi yaziffoon

So, they (people) came back towards him hurriedly

قَالَ أَتَعْبُدُونَ مَا تَنْحِتُونَ

Qaala ata'budoona maa tanhitoon

He said: ‘Are you worshipping what you (yourselves) are carving?

وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ وَمَا تَعْمَلُونَ

Wallaahu khalaqakum wa maa ta'maloon

And Allah Created you, and what are you doing?

قَالُوا۟ ٱبْنُوا۟ لَهُۥ بُنْيَـٰنًا فَأَلْقُوهُ فِى ٱلْجَحِيمِ

Qaalub noo lahoo bun yaanan fa alqoohu fil jaheem

They said, ‘Build a structure for him, and throw him into the Blazing Fire!’

فَأَرَادُوا۟ بِهِۦ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمُ ٱلْأَسْفَلِينَ

Fa araadoo bihee kaidan faja 'alnaahumul asfaleen

And they intended a plot against him, but We Made them to be the lowest

وَقَالَ إِنِّى ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّى سَيَهْدِينِ

Wa qaala innee zaahibun ilaa Rabbee sa yahdeen

And he said: ‘I am going to my Lord. He would be Guiding me’

رَبِّ هَبْ لِى مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

Rabbi hab lee minas saaliheen

(Ibrahim said): ‘My Lord! Grant to me from the righteous ones!’

فَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ بِغُلَـٰمٍ حَلِيمٍ

Fabashsharnaahu bighulaamin haleem

So, We Gave him the glad tidings of a forbearing boy

فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ ٱلسَّعْىَ قَالَ يَـٰبُنَىَّ إِنِّىٓ أَرَىٰ فِى ٱلْمَنَامِ أَنِّىٓ أَذْبَحُكَ فَٱنظُرْ مَاذَا تَرَىٰ ۚ قَالَ يَـٰٓأَبَتِ ٱفْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُ ۖ سَتَجِدُنِىٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ

Falamma balagha ma'a hus sa'ya qaala yaa buniya inneee araa fil manaami anneee azbahuka fanzur maazaa taraa; qaala yaaa abatif 'al maa tu'maru satajidunee in shaaa'allaahu minas saabireen

So, when he reached the walking age with him, he said: ‘O my son! I saw in the dream that I should slay you, therefore consider, what is your view?’ He said: O father! Do what you are Commanded to, you will find me to be from the patients ones, if Allah so Desires

فَلَمَّآ أَسْلَمَا وَتَلَّهُۥ لِلْجَبِينِ

Falammaaa aslamaa wa tallahoo liljabeen

So, when they both submitted, and he layed him down of the forehead

وَنَـٰدَيْنَـٰهُ أَن يَـٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُ

Wa naadainaahu ai yaaaa Ibraheem

And We Called out to him: “O Ibrahim!

قَدْ صَدَّقْتَ ٱلرُّءْيَآ ۚ إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

Qad saddaqtar ru'yaa; innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen

You have ratified the dream. Surely, like that, do We Recompense the good doers

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْبَلَـٰٓؤُا۟ ٱلْمُبِينُ

Inna haazaa lahuwal balaaa'ul mubeen

Surely, in this, it was the clear trial

وَفَدَيْنَـٰهُ بِذِبْحٍ عَظِيمٍ

Wa fadainaahu bizibhin 'azeem

And We Ransomed him with a magnificent slaying

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

Wa taraknaa 'alaihi fil aakhireen

And upon it, We Left (his mention to be) among the later ones

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ

Salaamun 'alaaa Ibraaheem

Greetings be upon Ibrahim

كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

Kazaalika najzil muhsineen

Like that do We Recompense the good doers

إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Innahoo min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen

He was from Our servants, the Momineen

وَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ بِإِسْحَـٰقَ نَبِيًّا مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

Wa bashsharnaahu bi Ishaaqa Nabiyam minas saaliheen

And We Gave him the glad tidings of Is’haq, a Prophet from the righteous

وَبَـٰرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَىٰٓ إِسْحَـٰقَ ۚ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا مُحْسِنٌ وَظَالِمٌ لِّنَفْسِهِۦ مُبِينٌ

Wa baaraknaa 'alaihi wa 'alaaa Ishaaq; wa min zurriyya tihimaa muhsinunw wa zaalimul linafsihee mubeen

And We Sent Blessings upon him and upon Is’haq, and from the good doers of their offspring, and (also) the ones clearly unjust to their own selves

وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ

Wa laqad mananna alaa Moosaa wa Haaroon

And We had Conferred a Favour upon Musa and Haroun

وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُمَا وَقَوْمَهُمَا مِنَ ٱلْكَرْبِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

Wa najjainaahumaa wa qawmahumaa minal karbil 'azeem

And We Delivered them both and their people from the mighty distress

وَنَصَرْنَـٰهُمْ فَكَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ

Wa nasarnaahum fakaanoo humul ghaalibeen

And We Helped them, so they were the triumphant ones

وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمَا ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ٱلْمُسْتَبِينَ

Wa aatainaahumal Kitaabal mustabeen

And We Gave them the Book explaining clearly

وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُمَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ

Wa hadainaahumus Siraatal Mustaqeem

And We Guided them both (to) the Straight Path

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِمَا فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

Wa taraknaa 'alaihimaa fil aakhireen

And upon it, We Left (their mention to be) among the later ones

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ

Salaamun 'alaa Moosaa wa Haaroon

Greetings be upon Musa and Haroun

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

Wa inna Ilyaasa laminal mursaleen

And surely Ilyas was from the Rasools

إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ

Iz qaala liqawmiheee alaa tattaqoon

When he said to his people: Will you not be fearing?’

أَتَدْعُونَ بَعْلًا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحْسَنَ ٱلْخَـٰلِقِينَ

Atad'oona Ba'lanw wa tazaroona ahsanal khaaliqeen

You are supplicating to Ba’al and forsaking (leaving) the most excellent Creator,

ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمْ وَرَبَّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

Allaaha Rabbakum wa Rabba aabaaa'ikumul awwaleen

Allah, your Lord and Lord of your forefathers, the former ones?’

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ

Fakazzaboohu fa inna hum lamuhzaroon

But they belied him, therefore they would be presented (in Hell)

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen

Except the sincere servants of Allah

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

Wa taraknaa 'alaihi fil aakhireen

And upon it, We Left (his mention to be) among the later ones

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِلْ يَاسِينَ

Salaamun 'alay Ilyaaseen

Greetings be on Progeny of Yaseen

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

Innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen

Indeed, like that do We Recompense the good doers

إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Innahoo min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen

He was from Our servants, the Momineen

وَإِنَّ لُوطًا لَّمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

Wa inna Lootal laminal mursaleen

And surely, Lut was from the Rasools

إِذْ نَجَّيْنَـٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ أَجْمَعِينَ

Iz najjainaahu wa ahlahooo ajma'een

When We Rescued him and his family altogether

إِلَّا عَجُوزًا فِى ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ

Illaa 'ajoozan fil ghaabireen

Except an old woman to be among the ones left behind

ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ

Summa dammarnal aakhareen

Then We Annihilated the others

وَإِنَّكُمْ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهِم مُّصْبِحِينَ

Wa innakum latamurroona 'alaihim musbiheen

And you are passing by them in the morning

وَبِٱلَّيْلِ ۗ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ

Wa billail; afalaa ta'qiloon

And at night. So, will you not use your intellects?

وَإِنَّ يُونُسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

Wa inna Yoonusa laminal mursaleen

And indeed, Yunus was from the Rasools

إِذْ أَبَقَ إِلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُونِ

Iz abaqa ilal fulkil mash hoon

When he absconded to a fully laden ship

فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُدْحَضِينَ

Fasaahama fakaana minal mudhazeen

So, he drew lots with them and he was the one to be thrown off

فَٱلْتَقَمَهُ ٱلْحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌ

Faltaqamahul hootu wa huwa muleem

And the whale swallowed him and he was blameworthy

فَلَوْلَآ أَنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُسَبِّحِينَ

Falaw laaa annahoo kaana minal musabbiheen

But had he not been from the Glorifying ones

لَلَبِثَ فِى بَطْنِهِۦٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ

Lalabisa fee batniheee ilaa Yawmi yub'asoon

He would have remained in its belly up to the Day he would have been Resurrected

۞ فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُ بِٱلْعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ سَقِيمٌ

Fanabaznaahu bil'araaa'i wa huwa saqeem

Then We had him expelled in the wilderness and he was sick

وَأَنۢبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةً مِّن يَقْطِينٍ

Wa ambatnaa 'alaihi shajaratam mai yaqteen

And We Grew a gourd plant to grow for him

وَأَرْسَلْنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ مِا۟ئَةِ أَلْفٍ أَوْ يَزِيدُونَ

Wa arsalnaahu ilaa mi'ati alfin aw yazeedoon

And We sent him (Younis) to a hundred thousand, or more

فَـَٔامَنُوا۟ فَمَتَّعْنَـٰهُمْ إِلَىٰ حِينٍ

Fa aamanoo famatta' naahum ilaa heen

And they believed, so We Provided for them up to a time

فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَلِرَبِّكَ ٱلْبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ ٱلْبَنُونَ

Fastaftihim ali Rabbikal banaatu wa lahumul banoon

Then ask them: ‘Are there daughters for your Lord and for them are the sons?’

أَمْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ إِنَـٰثًا وَهُمْ شَـٰهِدُونَ

Am khalaqnal malaaa'i kata inaasanw wa hum shaahidoon

Or did We Create the Angels as females and they are witnesses?

أَلَآ إِنَّهُم مِّنْ إِفْكِهِمْ لَيَقُولُونَ

Alaaa innahum min ifkihim la yaqooloon

Indeed! It is from their own falsehood they are saying,

وَلَدَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ

Waladal laahu wa innahum lakaaziboon

‘Allah has begotten, and they are lying’

أَصْطَفَى ٱلْبَنَاتِ عَلَى ٱلْبَنِينَ

Astafal banaati 'alal baneen

Did He Choose the daughter over the sons?

مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ

Maa lakum kaifa tahkumoon

What is the matter with you all? How are you judging?

أَمْ لَكُمْ سُلْطَـٰنٌ مُّبِينٌ

Am lakum sultaanum mubeen

Or is there a clear Authorisation for you?

فَأْتُوا۟ بِكِتَـٰبِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ

Faatoo bi Kitaabikum in kuntum saadiqeen

Then come with your Book, if you are truthful

وَجَعَلُوا۟ بَيْنَهُۥ وَبَيْنَ ٱلْجِنَّةِ نَسَبًا ۚ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَتِ ٱلْجِنَّةُ إِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ

Wa ja'aloo bainahoo wa bainal jinnati nasabaa; wa laqad 'alimatil jinnatu innahum lamuhzaroon

And they are asserting a link between Him and the Jinn, and the Jinn do know that they would be presented (before their Lord)

سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ

Subhaanal laahi 'ammaa yasifoon

Glory be to Allah from what they are ascribing

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen

Except the sincere servants of Allah

فَإِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُونَ

Fa innakum wa maa ta'budoon

So, you and what you are worshipping

مَآ أَنتُمْ عَلَيْهِ بِفَـٰتِنِينَ

Maaa antum 'alaihi bi faaatineen

You cannot cause discord against Him

إِلَّا مَنْ هُوَ صَالِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

Illaa man huwa saalil jaheem

Except one who would be arriving to the Blazing Fire

وَمَا مِنَّآ إِلَّا لَهُۥ مَقَامٌ مَّعْلُومٌ

Wa maa minnaaa illaa lahoo maqaamun ma'loom

(Jibraeel said): ‘And there is none of us except for him is a known place

وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلصَّآفُّونَ

Wa innaa lanah nus saaffoon

And indeed, we are the ones arranged in rows

وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلْمُسَبِّحُونَ

Wa innaa lanah nul musabbihoon

And indeed were the ones Glorifying’

وَإِن كَانُوا۟ لَيَقُولُونَ

Wa in kaanoo la yaqooloon

And they (Quraysh) were saying,

لَوْ أَنَّ عِندَنَا ذِكْرًا مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

Law anna 'indanaa zikram minal awwaleen

‘If only there had been Zikr in our presence from the former ones

لَكُنَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

Lakunna 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen

We would have been the sincere servants of Allah’

فَكَفَرُوا۟ بِهِۦ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ

Fakafaroo bihee fasawfa ya'lamoon

But they committed Kufr with it, therefore soon they would come to know

وَلَقَدْ سَبَقَتْ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

Wa laqad sabaqat Kalimatunaa li'ibaadinal mursa leen

And Our Word had preceded to Our servants, the Rasools

إِنَّهُمْ لَهُمُ ٱلْمَنصُورُونَ

Innaa hum lahumul mansooroon

Surely, for them would be the Helped ones

وَإِنَّ جُندَنَا لَهُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَ

Wa inna jundana lahumul ghaaliboon

And certainly, Our army, for them would be the victory achievers

فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ

Fatawalla 'anhum hatta heen

So, turn away from them for a while

وَأَبْصِرْهُمْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ

Wa absirhum fasawfa yubsiroon

And see them, for soon they would be seeing

أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

Afabi'azaabinaa yasta'jiloon

Is it with Our Punishment they are hastening?

فَإِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمْ فَسَآءَ صَبَاحُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ

Fa izaa nazala bisaahatihim fasaaa'a sabaahul munzareen

But when it does descend in their territory, then evil would be the morning of the warned ones

وَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ

Wa tawalla 'anhum hattaa heen

And turn away from them for a while

وَأَبْصِرْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ

Wa absir fasawfa yubsiroon

And see, for soon they would be seeing

سُبْحَـٰنَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ ٱلْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ

Subhaana Rabbika Rabbil 'izzati 'amma yasifoon

Glorious is your Lord, the Lord of Might, from what they are ascribing

وَسَلَـٰمٌ عَلَى ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

Wa salaamun 'alalmursaleen

And greetings be upon the Rasools

وَٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

Walhamdu lillaahi Rabbil 'aalameen

And the Praise is for Allah, Lord of the Worlds
