Al-Qamar

ٱقْتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلْقَمَرُ

Iqtarabatis Saa'atu wan shaqqal qamar

The time approached and the moon split apart

وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ ءَايَةً يُعْرِضُوا۟ وَيَقُولُوا۟ سِحْرٌ مُّسْتَمِرٌّ

Wa iny yaraw aayatany yu'ridoo wa yaqooloo sihrun mustamirr

And if they see a Sign they turn aside and are saying, ‘Continuous sorcery!’

وَكَذَّبُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ

Wa kazzaboo wattaba'ooo ahwaaa'ahum; wa kullu amrin mustaqirr

And they are belying it and following their whims; and every matter has an Ordained term

وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ

Wa laqad jaaa'ahum minal anbaaa'i maa feehi muzdajar

And there had come to them from the news wherein was deterrence

حِكْمَةٌۢ بَـٰلِغَةٌ ۖ فَمَا تُغْنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ

Hikmatun baalighatun famaa tughnin nuzur

Being a perfect Wisdom – but warning did not avail (them)

فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ ۘ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَىْءٍ نُّكُرٍ

Fatawalla 'anhum; yawma yad'ud daa'i ilaa shai 'in nukur

Therefore, turn away from them. On a Day the Caller would call them to an abhorrent thing,

خُشَّعًا أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُّنتَشِرٌ

Khushsha'an absaaruhum yakhrujoona minal ajdaasi ka annahum jaraadum muntashir

eyes would be humble. They would be coming out from the graves as if they are scattered locusts

مُّهْطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِ ۖ يَقُولُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ

Muhti'eena ilad daa'i yaqoolul kaafiroona haazaa yawmun 'asir

Hastening to the Caller. The Kafirs (non-believers) would be saying, ‘This is a difficult day!’

۞ كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا۟ مَجْنُونٌ وَٱزْدُجِرَ

Kazzabat qablahum qawmu Noohin fakazzaboo 'abdanaa wa qaaloo majnoonunw wazdujir

Before them the people of Noah belied. They belied Our servant and they said, ‘Insane’, and he was tormented severely

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَغْلُوبٌ فَٱنتَصِرْ

Fada'aa Rabbahooo annee maghloobun fantasir

Then he supplicated to his Lord: ‘I am overcome, so Help!’

فَفَتَحْنَآ أَبْوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٍ مُّنْهَمِرٍ

Fafatahnaaa abwaabas samaaa'i bi maaa'in munhamir

So, We Opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down

وَفَجَّرْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ عُيُونًا فَٱلْتَقَى ٱلْمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَ

Wa fajjarnal arda 'uyoonan faltaqal maaa'u 'alaaa amrin qad qudir

And We Burst the ground with springs, so the water gathered upon a Pre-determined matter

وَحَمَلْنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلْوَٰحٍ وَدُسُرٍ

Wa hamalnaahu 'alaa zaati alwaahinw wa dusur

And We Carried him upon (a ship) of panels and nails

تَجْرِى بِأَعْيُنِنَا جَزَآءً لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ

Tajree bi a'yuninaa jazaaa'an liman kaana kufir

Sailing before Our eyes, being a Recompense for who was denied

وَلَقَد تَّرَكْنَـٰهَآ ءَايَةً فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

Wa laqat taraknaahaa aayatan fahal min muddakir

And We have Left it as a Sign, so is there anyone to take heed?

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ

Fakaifa kaana 'azaabee wa nuzur

So how was My Punishment and Warning?

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

Wa laqad yassarnal Qur'aana liz zikri fahal min muddakir

And We have Eased the Quran for the Zikr, so is there one who will take advice?

كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ

Kazzabat 'Aadun fakaifa kaana 'azaabee wa nuzur

(People of) Ad belied, so how was My Punishment and Warning?

إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِى يَوْمِ نَحْسٍ مُّسْتَمِرٍّ

Innaa arsalnaa 'alaihim reehan sarsaran fee Yawmi nahsin mustamirr

We Sent upon them a wind (called) Sarsar, during a Day of continuous bad omen

تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ مُّنقَعِرٍ

Tanzi'un naasa ka annahum a'jaazu nakhlin munqa'ir

Snatching the people as if they were torn trunks of palm trees

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ

Fakaifa kaana 'azaabee wa nuzur

So How was My punishment and Warning?

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

Wa laqad yassarnal Qur'aana liz zikri fahal min muddakir

And We have Eased the Quran for the Zikr, so is there one who will take advice?

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ

Kazzabat Samoodu binnuzur

(The people of) Samood belied the Warning

فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَبَشَرًا مِّنَّا وَٰحِدًا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذًا لَّفِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ

Faqaalooo a' basharan minnaa waahidan nattabi'uhooo innaa izal lafee dalaalinw wa su'ur

So, they said, ‘Is it one person from us we should be following? Surely then we would be in straying and madness

أَءُلْقِىَ ٱلذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنۢ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٌ

'A ulqiyaz zikru 'alaihi min baininaa bal huwa kazzaabun ashir

Has the Zikr been Cast unto him from between us? But, he is an insolent liar!’

سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًا مَّنِ ٱلْكَذَّابُ ٱلْأَشِرُ

Sa-ya'lamoona ghadan manil kazzaabul ashir

They will come to know tomorrow, who is the liar, the insolent one

إِنَّا مُرْسِلُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةً لَّهُمْ فَٱرْتَقِبْهُمْ وَٱصْطَبِرْ

Innaa mursilun naaqati fitnatan lahum fartaqibhum wastabir

We will be Sending a she-camel as a trial for them, therefore watch them and be patient

وَنَبِّئْهُمْ أَنَّ ٱلْمَآءَ قِسْمَةٌۢ بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ كُلُّ شِرْبٍ مُّحْتَضَرٌ

Wa nabbi'hum annal maaa'a qismatun bainahum kullu shirbin muhtazar

And inform them that the water is to be divided between them - every drink shall be regulated

فَنَادَوْا۟ صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ

Fa naadaw saahibahum fa ta'aataa fa 'aqar

But they called their companion, so he came and hamstrung (it)

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ

Fakaifa kaana 'azaabee wa nuzur

So how was My punishment and Warning?

إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً فَكَانُوا۟ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلْمُحْتَظِرِ

Innaaa arsalnaa 'alaihim saihatanw waahidatan fakaanoo kahasheemil muhtazir

We Sent single scream upon them, so they were like dry fragments of the carpenter

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

Wa laqad yassarnal Qur'aana liz zikri fahal min muddakir

And We have Eased the Quran for the Zikr, so is there one who will take advice?

كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ

Kazzabat qawmu lootin binnuzur

The people of Lut belied the Warning

إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ۖ نَّجَّيْنَـٰهُم بِسَحَرٍ

Innaa arsalnaa 'alaihim haasiban illaaa aala Lootin najjainaahum bisahar

Surely, We Sent a hailstorm upon them, except the family of Lut. We Rescued them before daybreak

نِّعْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى مَن شَكَرَ

Ni'matan min 'indinaa; kazaalika najzee man shakar

Being a Favour from Us. Like that do We Recompense one who is thankful

وَلَقَدْ أَنذَرَهُم بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا۟ بِٱلنُّذُرِ

Wa laqad anzarahum batshatanaa fatamaaraw binnuzur

And We had Warned them of Our Seizure, but they disputed the Warning

وَلَقَدْ رَٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيْفِهِۦ فَطَمَسْنَآ أَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ

Wa laqad raawadoohu 'andaifeehee fatamasnaaa a'yunahum fazooqoo 'azaabee wa nuzur

And they endeavoured to turn him from his guests, but We Blinded their eyes; so taste My Punishment and Warning

وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُم بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ

Wa laqad sabbahahum bukratan 'azaabun mustaqirr

And by the morning, the Ordained Punishment had seized them

فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ

Fazooqoo 'azaabee wa nuzur

Therefore, taste My Punishment and Warning

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

Wa laqad yassarnal Qur'aana liz zikri fahal min muddakir

And We have Eased the Quran for the Zikr, so is there one who will take advice?

وَلَقَدْ جَآءَ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ

Wa laqad jaaa'a Aala Fir'awnan nuzur

And the warning had come to the people of Pharaoh

كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍ

Kazzaboo bi Aayaatinaa kullihaa fa akhaznaahum akhza 'azeezim muqtadir

They belied Our Signs, all of them, so We Seized them, being a Mighty, Powerful Seizure

أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُم بَرَآءَةٌ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ

'A kuffaarukum khairun min ulaaa'ikum am lakum baraaa'atun fiz Zubur

Are your Kafirs better than those, or is there an exemption for you all in the Psalms?

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌ مُّنتَصِرٌ

Am yaqooloona nahnu jamee'un muntasir

Or are they saying, ‘We will all get together, helping each other’?

سَيُهْزَمُ ٱلْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ

Sa yuhzamul jam'u wa yuwalloonad dubur

The gathering would soon be defeated, and they will turn back

بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ

Balis Saa'atu maw'iduhum was Saa'atu adhaa wa amarr

But, the Hour is their Promise, and the Hour would be more grievous, more bitter (for them)

إِنَّ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ

Innal mujrimeena fee dalaalinw wa su'ur

Surely, the criminals are in straying and frenzy

يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِى ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ ذُوقُوا۟ مَسَّ سَقَرَ

Yawma yus-haboona fin Naari 'alaa wujoohihim zooqoo massa saqar

On the Day they would come to be in the Fire upon their faces: “Taste the touch of ‘Saqar’ (Inferno of Hell)!”

إِنَّا كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَـٰهُ بِقَدَرٍ

Innaa kulla shai'in khalaqnaahu bi qadar

Surely, We Created all things in a Pre-determined measure

وَمَآ أَمْرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٌ كَلَمْحٍۭ بِٱلْبَصَرِ

Wa maaa amrunaaa illaa waahidatun ka lamhin bil basar

And Our Command is not, except one, like the blink of the eye

وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَآ أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

Wa laqad ahlaknaaa ashyaa'akum fahal min muddakir

And We have already Destroyed your adherents, but is there anyone taking heed?

وَكُلُّ شَىْءٍ فَعَلُوهُ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ

Wa kullu shai'in fa'aloohu fiz Zubur

And everything they had done is in the scriptures

وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٍ وَكَبِيرٍ مُّسْتَطَرٌ

Wa kullu sagheerinw wa kabeerin mustatar

And everything small and big is Written

إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَنَهَرٍ

Innal muttaqeena fee jannaatinw wa nahar

Surely, the pious would be in Gardens and Rivers

فِى مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍۭ

Fee maq'adi sidqin 'inda Maleekin Muqtadir

In a truthful seat, in the Presence of a Powerful King
