Al-Waqi'ah

إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ

Izaa waqa'atil waaqi'ah

When the event occurs

لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ

Laisa liwaq'atihaa kaazibah

There isn’t a belying for its occurrence

خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ

Khafidatur raafi'ah

Humbling, exalting (praising)

إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ رَجًّا

Izaa rujjatil ardu rajjaa

When the earth would shake with a shaking

وَبُسَّتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ بَسًّا

Wa bussatil jibaalu bassaa

And the mountains will crumble with a crumbling

فَكَانَتْ هَبَآءً مُّنۢبَثًّا

Fakaanat habaaa'am mumbassaa

So, these (mountains) would be like scattered dust

وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا ثَلَـٰثَةً

Wa kuntum azwaajan salaasah

And you would be as three categories

فَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ

Fa as haabul maimanati maaa as haabul maimanah

So, the companions of the right hand - what are the companions of the right hand?

وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ

Wa as haabul mash'amati maaa as haabul mash'amah

And the companions of the left hand - what are the companions of the left hand?

وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ

Wassaabiqoonas saabiqoon

And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter)

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ

Ulaaa'ikal muqarraboon

These are the ones of proximity (Nearest to Allah)

فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ

Fee Jannaatin Na'eem

In the Blissful Gardens

ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

Sullatum minal awwaleen

A group from the former ones

وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

Wa qaleelum minal aa khireen

And a few from the latter ones

عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ

'Alaa sururim mawzoonah

On decorated thrones

مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَـٰبِلِينَ

Muttaki'eena 'alaihaa mutaqabileen

Reclining upon these (thrones), facing each other

يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ

Yatoofu 'alaihim wildaa num mukhalladoon

Circling around them would be eternal young (servants)

بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ

Bi akwaabinw wa abaareeq, wa kaasim mim ma'een

With goblets and pitchers, and cups (filled) from springs

لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ

Laa yusadda'oona 'anhaa wa laa yunzifoon

Neither getting headaches from these nor intoxicated

وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ

Wa faakihatim mimmaa yatakhaiyaroon

And fruits from whatever they choose

وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ

Wa lahmi tairim mimmaa yashtahoon

And meat from whatever bird they desire

وَحُورٌ عِينٌ

Wa hoorun'een

And Maiden (unmarried) Houries

كَأَمْثَـٰلِ ٱللُّؤْلُؤِ ٱلْمَكْنُونِ

Ka amsaalil lu'lu'il maknoon

Resembling the hidden pearls

جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ

Jazaaa'am bimaa kaanoo ya'maloon

Being a Recompense of what they had been doing

لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا

Laa yasma'oona feehaa laghwanw wa laa taaseemaa

They will neither be hearing therein anything vain nor sinful talk

إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَـٰمًا سَلَـٰمًا

Illaa qeelan salaaman salaamaa

Except it would be said, ‘Peace! Peace!’

وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ

Wa as haabul yameeni maaa as haabul Yameen

And the Companions of the right hand - what are the Companions of the right hand?

فِى سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ

Fee sidrim makhzood

Among thorn-less lote trees

وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ

Wa talhim manzood

And bananas, above each other

وَظِلٍّ مَّمْدُودٍ

Wa zillim mamdood

And extended shades

وَمَآءٍ مَّسْكُوبٍ

Wa maaa'im maskoob

And water flowing constantly

وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ

Wa faakihatin kaseerah

And abundant fruit

لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ

Laa maqtoo'atinw wa laa mamnoo'ah

Neither interrupted nor forbidden

وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ

Wa furushim marfoo'ah

And raised (from the floor) furnishings

إِنَّآ أَنشَأْنَـٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءً

Innaaa anshaanaahunna inshaaa'aa

Surely, We shall Grow them (with a) growth

فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا

Faja'alnaahunna abkaaraa

So, We will Make them as virgins

عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا

'Uruban atraabaa

Loving, equals in age

لِّأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ

Li as haabil yameen

For the companions of the right hand

ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

Sullatum minal awwa leen

A group from the former ones

وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

Wa sullatum minal aakhireen

And a group from the latter ones

وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ

Wa as haabush shimaali maaa as haabush shimaal

And the companions of the left hand, what are the companions of the left hand?

فِى سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ

Fee samoominw wa hameem

In toxins and scalding water

وَظِلٍّ مِّن يَحْمُومٍ

Wa zillim miny yahmoom

And shade from black smoke

لَّا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ

Laa baaridinw wa laa kareem

Neither cool nor honourable/kind

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ

Innahum kaanoo qabla zaalika mutrafeen

Surely, they were before that in a luxurious life

وَكَانُوا۟ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلْحِنثِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

Wa kaanoo yusirroona 'alal hinsil 'azeem

And they persisted upon the great perjury

وَكَانُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ

Wa kaanoo yaqooloona a'izaa mitnaa wa kunnaa turaabanw wa izaaman'ainnaa lamab'oosoon

And they used to say, ‘When we die and become dust and bones, would we be Resurrected?

أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ

Awa aabaaa'unal awwaloon

Or our fathers, the former ones?’

قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

Qul innal awwaleena wal aakhireen

Say: ‘Surely The former ones and the latter ones

لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَـٰتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ

Lamajmoo'oona ilaa meeqaati yawmim ma'loom

Are to be Gathered to an appointed time of a known Day

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبُونَ

Summa innakum ayyuhad daaalloonal mukazziboon

Then you (Ashab ul Shimal)! O you straying ones, the beliers!

لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍ مِّن زَقُّومٍ

La aakiloona min shaja rim min zaqqoom

You will be eating from a tree of Zaqoom

فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ

Famaali'oona minhal butoon

So, the bellies would be filled from it

فَشَـٰرِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْحَمِيمِ

Fashaariboona 'alaihi minal hameem

And you will be drinking upon it from the scalding water

فَشَـٰرِبُونَ شُرْبَ ٱلْهِيمِ

Fashaariboona shurbal heem

And they would be drinking (like) the thirsty camel drinks

هَـٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ

Haazaa nuzuluhum yawmad deen

This will befall them on the Day of Reckoning/Judgement

نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ

Nahnu khalaqnaakum falaw laa tusaddiqoon

We Created you, so why are you not ratifying?

أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ

Afara'aytum maa tumnoon

Have you considered what you sow?

ءَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَ

'A-antum takhluqoo nahooo am nahnul khaaliqoon

Is it you that Create it or are We the Creators?

نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ

Nahnu qaddarnaa baina kumul mawta wa maa nahnu bimasbooqeen

We Ordained death among you and We will not be outrun

عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَـٰلَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِى مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

'Alaaa an nubaddila amsaalakum wa nunshi'akum fee maa laa ta'lamoon

Transforming you into something you would never recognise

وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ

Wa laqad 'alimtumun nash atal oolaa falaw laa tazakkaroon

And you have known the first transformation, so why are you not taking heed?

أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ

Afara'aytum maa tahrusoon

Have you considered what you cultivate?

ءَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَ

'A-antum tazra'oonahooo am nahnuz zaari'ooon

Are you its growers or are We the Growers?

لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ حُطَـٰمًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ

Law nashaaa'u laja'al naahu hutaaman fazaltum tafakkahoon

If We so Desire, We can Make it to be debris, then you would be upset

إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ

Innaa lamughramoon

(Saying), ‘We have been penalised!

بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ

Bal nahnu mahroomoon

But, we have been deprived off!’

أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلْمَآءَ ٱلَّذِى تَشْرَبُونَ

Afara'aytumul maaa'allazee tashraboon

Have you considered the water, which you are drinking?

ءَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنزِلُونَ

'A-antum anzaltumoohu minal muzni am nahnul munziloon

Are you it’s senders from the clouds or are We the Senders?

لَوْ نَشَآءُ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ

Law nashaaa'u ja'alnaahu ujaajan falaw laa tashkuroon

If We so Desire, We can Make it salty, so why are you not grateful?

أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِى تُورُونَ

Afara'aytumun naaral latee tooroon

Have you considered the fire, which you ignite?

ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَ

'A-antum anshaatum shajaratahaaa am nahnul munshi'oon

Are you growing its trees or are We the Growers?

نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَـٰهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَـٰعًا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ

Nahnu ja'alnaahaa tazkira tanw wa mataa'al lilmuqween

We have made it a Tazkara (mention) and a provision for the desert (uncharted) travellers

فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

Fasabbih bismi Rabbikal 'azeem

Therefore, Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Magnificent

۞ فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ

Falaa uqsimu bimaawaa qi'innujoom

So do not swear by the locations of the stars!

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ

Wa innahoo laqasamul lawta'lamoona'azeem

And it is a mighty oath, if you only knew

إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرْءَانٌ كَرِيمٌ

Innahoo la quraanun kareem

It is an Honourable Quran

فِى كِتَـٰبٍ مَّكْنُونٍ

Fee kitaabim maknoon

In a hidden Book

لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَ

Laa yamassuhooo illal mutahharoon

None can touch it except for the Purified ones

تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

Tanzeelum mir Rabbil'aalameen

A Revelation from Lord of the Worlds

أَفَبِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ

Afabihaazal hadeesi antum mudhinoon

So, is it with this Hadeeth you are being indifferent (uninterested)?

وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ

Wa taj'aloona rizqakum annakum tukazziboon

And you should be offering your livelihood, (instead) you are belying

فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ

Falaw laaa izaa balaghatil hulqoom

So why don’t you (people), when it reaches the throats

وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ

Wa antum heena'izin tanzuroon

And at that time you are looking on

وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ

Wa nahnu aqrabu ilaihi minkum wa laakil laa tubsiroon

And We are nearer to him than you are, but you are not seeing

فَلَوْلَآ إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ

Falaw laaa in kuntum ghaira madeeneen

Then don’t you, if you are not indebted

تَرْجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ

Tarji'oonahaaa in kuntum saadiqeen

Return it, if you were truthful?

فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ

Fa ammaaa in kaana minal muqarrabeen

So, if he is from the ones of proximity

فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ

Farawhunw wa raihaa nunw wa jannatu na'eem

Then there would be cool breeze and aroma and a Blissful Garden

وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ

Wa ammaaa in kaana min as haabil yameen

And if he is from companions of the right hand

فَسَلَـٰمٌ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ

Fasalaamul laka min as haabil yameen

(Then it would be said): ‘So peace is for you from companions of the right hand!’

وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ

Wa ammaaa in kaana minal mukazzibeenad zaaalleen

And if he were from the beliers, the straying ones,

فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ

Fanuzulum min hameem

He shall descend from the boiling water

وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ

Wa tasliyatu jaheem

And arrive in the Blazing Fire

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ

Inna haaza lahuwa haqqul yaqeen

Surely this, it is the truth of certainty

فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

Fasabbih bismi rabbikal 'azeem

Therefore, Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Magnificent
