Surah 69

Al-Haqqah

The Reality · 52 verses

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

69:3

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْحَآقَّةُ

Wa maaa adraaka mal haaaqqah

And what would make you realise what the inevitable Reality is!

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ وَعَادٌۢ بِٱلْقَارِعَةِ

Kazzabat samoodu wa 'Aadum bil qaari'ah

(The people of) Samood and Aad belied the striking calamity a lie

69:5

فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهْلِكُوا۟ بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِ

Fa-ammaa Samoodu fa uhlikoo bittaaghiyah

Then as for (the people of) Samood, so they were destroyed by the blast

69:6

وَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَأُهْلِكُوا۟ بِرِيحٍ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍ

Wa ammaa 'Aadun fa uhlikoo bi reehin sarsarin 'aatiyah

And as for (the people of) Aad, so they were destroyed by the Sar Sar wind which came to them

سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ وَثَمَـٰنِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومًا فَتَرَى ٱلْقَوْمَ فِيهَا صَرْعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٍ

Sakkhara haa 'alaihim sab'a la yaalinw wa samaaniyata ayyaamin husooman fataral qawma feehaa sar'aa ka annahum a'jaazu nakhlin khaawiyah

He Made it to prevail upon them for seven nights and eight days continuously, so you could see the people therein lying around as if they are hollow trunks of palm trees

فَهَلْ تَرَىٰ لَهُم مِّنۢ بَاقِيَةٍ

Fahal taraa lahum min baaqiyah

So, do you see any one of them remaining?

69:9

وَجَآءَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَن قَبْلَهُۥ وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَـٰتُ بِٱلْخَاطِئَةِ

Wa jaaa'a Firawnu wa man qablahoo wal mu'tafikaatu bil khaati'ah

And there came Pharaoh and ones before him, and the places Overthrown through (their own) misdeeds

69:10

فَعَصَوْا۟ رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَهُمْ أَخْذَةً رَّابِيَةً

Fa 'asaw Rasoola Rabbihim fa akhazahum akhzatar raabiyah

They disobeyed a Rasool of their Lord, so He Seized them by a strong Seizure (due to their) excesses

69:11

إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا ٱلْمَآءُ حَمَلْنَـٰكُمْ فِى ٱلْجَارِيَةِ

Innaa lammaa taghal maaa'u hamalnaakum fil jaariyah

Surely, when the water overflowed, We Carried you in the flowing (ship)

69:12

لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً وَتَعِيَهَآ أُذُنٌ وَٰعِيَةٌ

Li naj'alahaa lakum tazki ratanw-wa ta'iyahaa uzununw waa'iyah

And We Made it a Reminder for you, ‘وَتَعِيَهَا أُذُنٌ وَاعِيَةٌ’ and the retaining ear is preserving it

69:13

فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ نَفْخَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ

Fa izaa nufikha fis soori nafkhatunw waahidah

So, when it shall be blown into the Trumpet with a single blowing

69:14

وَحُمِلَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً وَٰحِدَةً

Wa humilatil ardu wal jibaalu fadukkataa dakkatanw waahidah

And the land and the mountains would be carried away and crushed with a single crushing

فَيَوْمَئِذٍ وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ

Fa yawma'izinw waqa'atil waaqi'ah

So, on that Day the event shall occur

69:16

وَٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَهِىَ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاهِيَةٌ

Wanshaqqatis samaaa'u fahiya yawma 'izinw-waahiyah

And the sky would be cleft asunder, so on that Day it shall be shall be frail

69:17

وَٱلْمَلَكُ عَلَىٰٓ أَرْجَآئِهَا ۚ وَيَحْمِلُ عَرْشَ رَبِّكَ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ ثَمَـٰنِيَةٌ

Wal malaku 'alaaa arjaaa'ihaa; wa yahmilu 'Arsha Rabbika fawqahum yawma'izin samaaniyah

And the Angels would be on its edges, and eight (in all) shall hold above them the Throne of your Lord on that Day

69:18

يَوْمَئِذٍ تُعْرَضُونَ لَا تَخْفَىٰ مِنكُمْ خَافِيَةٌ

Yawma'izin tu'radoona laa takhfaa min kum khaafiyah

On the Day you will be presented, no secret of yours shall remain hidden

69:19

فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ هَآؤُمُ ٱقْرَءُوا۟ كِتَـٰبِيَهْ

Fa ammaa man ootiya kitaabahoo biyameenihee fa yaqoolu haaa'umuq ra'oo kitaabiyah

So as for one Given his book in his right hand, he would be saying, ‘Behold/Here! Read my book

69:20

إِنِّى ظَنَنتُ أَنِّى مُلَـٰقٍ حِسَابِيَهْ

Innee zannantu annee mulaaqin hisaabiyah

(He would say who was given his book in his right hand): I always thought I would face my Reckoning/Accounting.

69:21

فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ

Fahuwa fee 'eeshatir raadiyah

(The one with his book given in his right hand) So, he would be in a pleasurable life

69:24

كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَآ أَسْلَفْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَيَّامِ ٱلْخَالِيَةِ

Kuloo washraboo haneee'am bimaaa aslaftum fil ayyaamil khaliyah

Eat and drink pleasantly for what you were previously (enduring) during the empty (Fasting) days

69:25

وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِشِمَالِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى لَمْ أُوتَ كِتَـٰبِيَهْ

Wa ammaa man ootiya kitaabahoo bishimaalihee fa yaqoolu yaalaitanee lam oota kitaaabiyah

And as for one Given his book in his left hand, so he would be saying, ‘O Alas! I wish I had not been Given my book

وَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهْ

Wa lam adri maa hisaabiyah

And I had not known what my Reckoning was

يَـٰلَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ ٱلْقَاضِيَةَ

Yaa laitahaa kaanatil qaadiyah

Oh, if only it (death) had not been the judge

69:28

مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنِّى مَالِيَهْ ۜ

Maaa aghnaa 'annee maaliyah

My wealth has not availed (anything) for me

69:29

هَلَكَ عَنِّى سُلْطَـٰنِيَهْ

Halaka 'annee sultaaniyah

My authority is destroyed from me’

69:31

ثُمَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ

Summal Jaheema sallooh

Then arrive him at the Blazing Fire

69:32

ثُمَّ فِى سِلْسِلَةٍ ذَرْعُهَا سَبْعُونَ ذِرَاعًا فَٱسْلُكُوهُ

Summa fee silsilatin zar'uhaa sab'oona ziraa'an faslukooh

Then enchain him in a chain of seventy cubits, and insert him (into Fire)!

69:33

إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لَا يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

Innahoo kaana laa yu'minu billaahil 'Azeem

Surely, he did not believe in Allah, the Magnificent

69:34

وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ

Wa laa yahuddu 'alaa ta'aamil miskeen

Nor did he urge upon feeding the poor

69:35

فَلَيْسَ لَهُ ٱلْيَوْمَ هَـٰهُنَا حَمِيمٌ

Falaysa lahul yawma haahunaa hameem

So today, there is no friend for him over here

وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ غِسْلِينٍ

Wa laa ta'aamun illaa min ghisleen

Nor any food except from pus

69:37

لَّا يَأْكُلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْخَـٰطِـُٔونَ

Laa ya'kuluhooo illal khaati'oon

None shall eat it except the wrongdoers

69:38

فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَا تُبْصِرُونَ

Falaaa uqsimu bimaa tubsiroon

But no! I swear by that which you can see

69:40

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ

Innahoo laqawlu Rasoolin kareem

Surely, it is a word of the most generous Rasool

69:41

وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَاعِرٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تُؤْمِنُونَ

Wa maa huwa biqawli shaa'ir; qaleelan maa tu'minoon

And it is not the word of a poet. Little is what you are believing in

وَلَا بِقَوْلِ كَاهِنٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ

Wa laa biqawli kaahin; qaleelan maa tazakkaroon

Nor is it some fortune teller’s statement; how little do you

69:43

تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

Tanzeelum mir rabbil 'aalameen

It is a Revelation from Lord of the Worlds/Universe

69:44

وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ ٱلْأَقَاوِيلِ

Wa law taqawwala 'alainaa ba'dal aqaaweel

And if he were to say (fabricate) upon Us some of the sayings

69:45

لَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُ بِٱلْيَمِينِ

La-akhaznaa minhu bilyameen

We would have Seized him by the right hand,

69:46

ثُمَّ لَقَطَعْنَا مِنْهُ ٱلْوَتِينَ

Summa laqata'naa minhul wateen

Then We would certainly have cut off the aorta (vein) from him

69:47

فَمَا مِنكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ عَنْهُ حَـٰجِزِينَ

Famaa minkum min ahadin'anhu haajizeen

So, there would not have been one from you to block from it

69:48

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَتَذْكِرَةٌ لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ

Wa innahoo latazkiratul lilmuttaqeen

And he is a Zikr for the pious

69:49

وَإِنَّا لَنَعْلَمُ أَنَّ مِنكُم مُّكَذِّبِينَ

Wa inna lana'lamu anna minkum mukazzibeen

And We know that from you all, there are beliers

69:50

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَسْرَةٌ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

Wa innahu lahasratun 'alal kaafireen

And he (it as per Muslims) is a regret upon the Kafirs

69:51

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ

Wa innahoo lahaqqul yaqeen

And surely, he is the absolute truth

69:52

فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

Fassabbih bismi Rabbikal 'Azeem

Therefore, Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Magnificent
