Al-Ma'arij

سَأَلَ سَآئِلٌۢ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ

Sa'ala saaa'ilun bi 'azaabinw waaqi'

A questioner, asked for the Punishment to befall

لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٌ

Lil kaafireena laisa lahoo daafi'

(A Punishment which is specifically) For the Kafirs, (for which) there wouldn’t be a dispeller for it

مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِى ٱلْمَعَارِجِ

Minal laahi zil ma'aarij

(It is) from Allah, One with the ways of ascent (climbing-up)

تَعْرُجُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ

Ta'rujul malaaa'ikatu war Roohu ilaihi fee yawmin kaana miqdaaruhoo khamseena alfa sanah

The Angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in that day, its measurement would be of fifty thousand years

فَٱصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا

Fasbir sabran jameelaa

Therefore, be patient with a beautiful patience

إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُۥ بَعِيدًا

Inaahum yarawnahoo ba'eedaa

They (kafirs) are seeing it as being remote

وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِيبًا

Wa naraahu qareebaa

And We See it as being near

يَوْمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلْمُهْلِ

Yawma takoonus samaaa'u kalmuhl

On the Day the sky will become like the molten brass

وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ

Wa takoonul jibaalu kal'ihn

And the mountains would become like the wool

وَلَا يَسْـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا

Wa laa yas'alu hameemun hameemaa

And a friend will not ask (about) a friend

يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ ٱلْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِى مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍۭ بِبَنِيهِ

Yubassaroonahum; ya waddul mujrimu law yaftadee min 'azaabi yawma'izim bibaneeh

(Although) they would be seeing them. The criminal would love it if he would redeem himself from a Punishment on that Day by his sons

وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِيهِ

Wa saahibatihee wa akheeh

And his (female) companion (wife), and his brother

وَفَصِيلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِى تُـْٔوِيهِ

Wa faseelathil latee tu'weeh

And his kinsfolk who had sheltered him

وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ

Wa man fil ardi jamee'an summa yunjeeh

And ones in the earth altogether, then they could rescue him (from the punishment)

كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ

Kallaa innahaa lazaa

Never! It is a flame

نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوَىٰ

Nazzaa'atal lishshawaa

Dragging them for the roasting (Fire)

تَدْعُوا۟ مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ

Tad'oo man adbara wa tawallaa

Claiming ones (Fire) who turned and fled (turning away)

وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰٓ

Wa jama'a fa aw'aa

And (they the criminals used to) amassed, then stashed (hoarding) it

۞ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا

Innal insaana khuliqa haloo'aa

Surely, the human being is Created of a hasty temperament

إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا

Izaa massahush sharru jazoo'aa

When the evil touches him, he panics

وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا

Wa izaa massahul khairu manoo'aa

And when the good touches him, he is niggardly (ungenerous)

إِلَّا ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ

Illal musalleen

Except the ones praying Salat (upon the Wilayah)

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَآئِمُونَ

Allazeena hum 'alaa Salaatihim daaa'imoon

Those who are constant upon their Salat

وَٱلَّذِينَ فِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ

Wallazeena feee amwaalihim haqqun ma'loom

And those in whose wealth there is a known right (upon them)

لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ

Lissaaa 'ili walmahroom

For the beggar and the deprived

وَٱلَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ

Wallazeena yusaddiqoona bi yawmid Deen

And those who are ratifying the Day of Religion

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ

Wallazeena hum min 'azaabi Rabbihim mushfiqoon

And those who are fearful from the Punishment of their Lord

إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ

Inna 'azaaba Rabbihim ghairu ma' moon

Surely, from the Punishment of their Lord there is no security

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَـٰفِظُونَ

Wallazeena hum li furoojihim haafizoon

And those who are guarding their chastity

إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ

Illaa 'alaaa azwaajihim aw maa malakat aymaanuhum fa innahum ghairu maloomeen

Except from their spouses, or what their right hands possess, so they would be without blame

فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ

Famanib taghaa waraaa'a zaalika fa ulaaa'ika humul 'aadoon

But one who seek to go beyond that, so those, they are the transgressors

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٰعُونَ

Wallazeena hum li amaanaatihim wa 'ahdihim raa'oon

And those who are guardians of their entrustments and their agreements

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَـٰدَٰتِهِمْ قَآئِمُونَ

Wallazeena hum bi shahaadaatihim qaaa'imoon

And those who are steadfast with their more than two testimonies

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ

Wallazeena hum 'alaa salaatihim yuhaafizoon

And those who are preserving upon their Salats

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ مُّكْرَمُونَ

Ulaaa'ika fee jannaatim mukramoon

They would be in Gardens, being honoured

فَمَالِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ

Famaa lil lazeena kafaroo qibalaka muhti'een

Yet what is wrong with those who disbelieved, that they should try to dash on ahead of you?

عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ

'Anil yameeni wa 'anish shimaali 'izeen

On the right and on the left in separate groups?

أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ

Ayatma'u kullum ri'im minhum anyyudkhala jannata Na'eem

Does every person from them desires that he should enter the Garden of Bliss?

كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ

Kallaaa innaa khalaq nahum mimmaa ya'lamoon

Never! Surely, We Created them of what they know

فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ وَٱلْمَغَـٰرِبِ إِنَّا لَقَـٰدِرُونَ

Falaaa uqsimu bi Rabbil mashaariqi wal maghaaribi innaa laqaadiroon

But no! I swear by the Lord of the Easts and the Wests that We are certainly Able

عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ

'Alaaa an nubaddila khairan minhum wa maa nahnu bi masbooqeen

Upon Replacing better than them, and We will not be preceded

فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا۟ وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يُلَـٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ

Fazarhum yakhoodoo wa yal'aboo hattaa yulaaqoo yawma humul lazee yoo'adoon

So, leave them engaging in vanities and playing around until they meet their Day which they are Promised

يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ

Yawma yakhrujoona minal ajdaasi siraa'an ka anna hum ilaa nusubiny yoofidoon

The Day they would be coming out from the graves quickly as if they are running to a goal

خَـٰشِعَةً أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلَّذِى كَانُوا۟ يُوعَدُونَ

Khaashi'atan absaaruhum tarhaquhum zillah; zaalikal yawmul lazee kaanoo yoo'adoon

Their visions humbled, humiliation having tired them. That is the Day which they had been Promised
