An-Nazi'at

وَٱلنَّـٰزِعَـٰتِ غَرْقًا

Wan naazi 'aati gharqa

(I Swear) by the snatchers snatching away (the soul)

وَٱلنَّـٰشِطَـٰتِ نَشْطًا

Wan naa shi taati nashta

And others who act more nimbly

وَٱلسَّـٰبِحَـٰتِ سَبْحًا

Wass saabi-haati sabha

And as those floating by

فَٱلسَّـٰبِقَـٰتِ سَبْقًا

Fass saabi qaati sabqa

And still others racing past

فَٱلْمُدَبِّرَٰتِ أَمْرًا

Fal mu dab-bi raati amra

To regulate some matters!

يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلرَّاجِفَةُ

Yawma tarjufur raajifa

Some day, a rumbling will be felt;

تَتْبَعُهَا ٱلرَّادِفَةُ

Tatba'u har raadifa

Another will follow on its heels!

قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ

Quloobuny-yau maaiziw-waaji-fa

Hearts on that day will palpitate

أَبْصَـٰرُهَا خَـٰشِعَةٌ

Absaa ruhaa khashi'ah

Their sights humbled

يَقُولُونَ أَءِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِى ٱلْحَافِرَةِ

Ya qoo loona a-inna lamar doo doona fil haafirah

They are saying, ‘Would we be restored in the graves?’

أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَـٰمًا نَّخِرَةً

Aizaa kunna 'izaa man-nakhirah

What! When we become rotten bones?’

قَالُوا۟ تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌ

Qaalu tilka izan karratun khaasirah

They are saying, ‘Then that would be a recurring loss’

فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ

Fa inna ma hiya zajratuw-waahida

But rather, it would be one Rebuke

فَإِذَا هُم بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِ

Faizaa hum biss saahirah

So, then they would be at Al-Sahira

هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ

Hal ataaka hadeethu Musaa

Did there come to you a Hadeeth of Musa?

إِذْ نَادَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ بِٱلْوَادِ ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى

Iz nadaahu rabbuhu bil waadil-muqad dasi tuwa

When his Lord Called him at the Holy valley of Tuwa

ٱذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ

Izhab ilaa fir'auna innahu taghaa

Go to Pharaoh, he has transgressed

فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَن تَزَكَّىٰ

Faqul hal laka ilaa-an tazakka

So, say: ‘Is there (an inclination) to you to purify (yourself)?

وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰ

Wa ahdi yaka ila rabbika fatakh sha

And I will guide you to your Lord, therefore fear’

فَأَرَىٰهُ ٱلْـَٔايَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ

Fa araahul-aayatal kubra

So, he showed him the great Sign

فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ

Fa kazzaba wa asaa

But he belied and disobeyed

ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰ

Thumma adbara yas'aa

Then he turned back (to Kufar)

فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ

Fa hashara fanada

So, he gathered (people) and called out

فَقَالَ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ

Faqala ana rabbu kumul-a'laa

He said: ‘I am your lord, the most exalted!’

فَأَخَذَهُ ٱللَّهُ نَكَالَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَٱلْأُولَىٰٓ

Fa-akha zahul laahu nakalal aakhirati wal-oola

Therefore, Allah Seized him with the exemplary Punishment of the Hereafter and the former life

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰٓ

Inna fee zaalika la'ibratal limaiy-yaksha

Surely, in that is a lesson for one who fears

ءَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ ۚ بَنَىٰهَا

A-antum a shaddu khalqan amis samaa-u banaaha

Are you the harder to be created or the sky? He Built it

رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّىٰهَا

Raf'a sam kaha fasaw waaha

He Raised its ceiling, then Evened it

وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَىٰهَا

Wa aghtasha lailaha wa akhraja zuhaaha

And He Covered its night and Extracted its brightness

وَٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآ

Wal arda b'ada zaalika dahaaha

And the earth, He Expanded it after that

أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَآءَهَا وَمَرْعَىٰهَا

Akhraja minha maa-aha wa mar 'aaha

He Brings forth from it, its water and its pasturage

وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَرْسَىٰهَا

Wal jibala arsaaha

And the mountains, He Affirmed these

مَتَـٰعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْ

Mataa'al lakum wali an 'aamikum

Being a provision for you and for your cattle

فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلطَّآمَّةُ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ

Fa-izaa jaaa'atit taaam matul kubraa

So, when the great calamity comes

يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَا سَعَىٰ

Yauma Yata zakkarul insaanu ma sa'aa

A Day the human being would recollect what he strove for

وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ

Wa burrizatil-jaheemu limany-yaraa

And the Hell will emerge for everyone to see

فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ

Fa ammaa man taghaa

So, as for one who transgresses

وَءَاثَرَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا

Wa aasaral hayaatad dunyaa

And prefers the life of the world

فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ

Fa innal jaheema hiyal maawaa

Then surely the Blazing Fire, it is the abode

وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ وَنَهَى ٱلنَّفْسَ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰ

Wa ammaa man khaafa maqaama Rabbihee wa nahan nafsa 'anil hawaa

And as for one who fears standing to his Lord and forbids the soul from the vain desires

فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَنَّةَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ

Fa innal jannata hiyal ma'waa

Then surely the Garden, it would be the abode

يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَىٰهَا

Yas'aloonaka 'anis saa'ati ayyaana mursaahaa

They are asking you about the Hour, ‘When would it transpire?’

فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكْرَىٰهَآ

Feema anta min zikraahaa

Who are you, from mentioning it

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَىٰهَآ

Ilaa Rabbika muntahaa haa

To your Lord is its ending

إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰهَا

Innamaaa anta munziru maiy yakshaahaa

But rather, you are a warner to one who fears it

كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوٓا۟ إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَىٰهَا

Ka annahum Yawma yarawnahaa lam yalbasooo illaa 'ashiyyatan aw duhaahaa

On the Day that they see it, it will be as if they did not remain (in the world) except an evening or its day
