'Abasa

عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ

Abasa wa tawallaa

He frowned and turned away

أَن جَآءَهُ ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ

An jaa-ahul 'a-maa

When (because) the blind man came to him

وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ

Wa maa yudreeka la'allahu yaz zakkaa

And what would make you realise, perhaps he may (yet) purify himself (of disbelief)?

أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰٓ

Aw yazzakkaru fatanfa 'ahuz zikraa

Or pay heed, so the Zikr would benefit him?

أَمَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰ

Amma manis taghnaa

As for one who (thinks he) is needless

فَأَنتَ لَهُۥ تَصَدَّىٰ

Fa-anta lahu tasaddaa

So, you face up to him

وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ

Wa ma 'alaika allaa yaz zakka

It is not your concern whether he will purify himself (or not)!

وَأَمَّا مَن جَآءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ

Wa amma man jaa-aka yas'a

And as to one who comes to you striving (eagerly)

وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ

Wahuwa yakhshaa

And he is fearing

فَأَنتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ

Fa-anta 'anhu talah haa

So, you are distracting yourself away from him

كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ

Kalla innaha tazkirah

Indeed! It is a Tazkira (Zikr – that which remind Allah)

فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ

Faman shaa a zakarah

So, one who so desires can adhere/mention it

فِى صُحُفٍ مُّكَرَّمَةٍ

Fi suhufim mukar rama

(It is) in Honourable Parchments

مَّرْفُوعَةٍ مُّطَهَّرَةٍۭ

Marfoo'atim mutah hara

Lofty, which cleanse

بِأَيْدِى سَفَرَةٍ

Bi'aidee safara

In the hands of Scribes

كِرَامٍۭ بَرَرَةٍ

Kiraamim bararah

Honourable, righteous

قُتِلَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَآ أَكْفَرَهُۥ

Qutilal-insanu maa akfarah

Let man be damned! What makes him commit kufr (denial)!

مِنْ أَىِّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقَهُۥ

Min aiyyi shai-in Khalaq

From which thing is his creation?

مِن نُّطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُۥ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ

Min nutfatin khalaqahoo faqaddarah

From a seed He Created him, and Determined him

ثُمَّ ٱلسَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُۥ

Thummas sabeela yas-sarah

Then He Made the Way easy for him

ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُۥ فَأَقْبَرَهُۥ

Thumma amatahu fa-aqbarah

Then He would Cause him to die, so had him buried

ثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنشَرَهُۥ

Thumma iza shaa-a ansharah

Then when He so Desires, He would Raise him

كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَآ أَمَرَهُۥ

Kalla lamma yaqdi maa amarah

Indeed, he does not accomplish what He orders him to

فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِۦٓ

Falyanzuril insanu ilaa ta-amih

Then let the human being look at his food (intake)

أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا ٱلْمَآءَ صَبًّا

Anna sabab nalmaa-a sabba

Surely, We Pour the water with (abundant) pouring

ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ شَقًّا

Thumma sha qaqnal-arda shaqqa

Then We Cleave the earth, with a cleaving

فَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّا

Fa ambatna feeha habba

So, We Cause the grain sprout from it

وَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًا

Wa 'inabaw-wa qazba

And grapes and green fodder

وَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًا

Wa zaitoonaw wanakh la'

And olive and palm

وَحَدَآئِقَ غُلْبًا

Wa hadaa-iqa ghulba

And thick foliaged gardens

وَفَـٰكِهَةً وَأَبًّا

Wa faki hataw-wa abba

And fruits and grass

مَّتَـٰعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْ

Mata'al-lakum wa li-an'amikum

Being a provision for you and for your cattle

فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلصَّآخَّةُ

Faiza jaa-atis saakhah

So, When the uproar comes

يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ

Yauma yafir-rul mar-u min akheeh

(It would be) a Day the person will flee from his own brother

وَأُمِّهِۦ وَأَبِيهِ

Wa ummihee wa abeeh

And his mother, and his father

وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَبَنِيهِ

Wa sahi batihee wa baneeh

And his spouse and his son

لِكُلِّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ

Likul limri-im-minhum yawmaa-izin shaa nuy-yughneeh

For every person from them on that Day, would be a concern occupying him

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُّسْفِرَةٌ

Wujoo huny-yauma-izim-musfira

Some faces on that Day would be bright

ضَاحِكَةٌ مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌ

Dahi katum mustab shirah

Laughing, joyous

وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ

Wa wujoohuy yauma-izin 'alaiha ghabar a

And (other) faces on that Day, upon them shall be dust

تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ

Tarhaquha qatarah

Darkness shall cover them

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْكَفَرَةُ ٱلْفَجَرَةُ

Ulaa-ika humul-kafa ratul-fajarah

Those, they are the Kafirs, the immoral
