Al-Mutaffifin

وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ

Wailul lil mutaffifeen

Woe be unto the fraudsters

ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكْتَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ

Allazeena izak taaloo 'alan naasi yastawfoon

Those, when they take a measure from the people, they take it fully

وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ

Wa izaa kaaloohum aw wazanoohum yukhsiroon

Yet when they measure out, or weigh things for others, they are being deficient (what is due to others)

أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ

Alaa yazunnu ulaaa'ika annahum mab'oosoon

Don’t they think that they would be Resurrected

لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ

Li Yawmin 'Azeem

For a Mighty Day?

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

Yawma yaqoomun naasu li Rabbil 'aalameen

A Day the people would be standing to Lord of the worlds

كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَـٰبَ ٱلْفُجَّارِ لَفِى سِجِّينٍ

Kallaaa inna kitaabal fujjaari lafee Sijjeen

Indeed! Surely the book of the immoral is in Sijjeen

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ

Wa maa adraaka maa Sijjeen

And what would you know what Sijjeen is?

كِتَـٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ

Kitaabum marqoom

An annotated book

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Wailuny yawma'izil lil mukazzibeen

Woe on be unto the beliers on that Day

ٱلَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ

Allazeena yukazziboona bi yawmid deen

Those who are belying the Day of the Judgement

وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِۦٓ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ

Wa maa yukazzibu biheee illaa kullu mu'tadin aseem

And none belie it except every excessive sinner

إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

Izaa tutlaa'alaihi aayaatunaa qaala asaateerul awwaleen

When Our Verses are recited to him, he says, ‘Stories of the former ones’

كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ

Kallaa bal raana 'alaa quloobihim maa kaanoo yaksiboon

Of course not, rather what they used to lies - like rust on their hearts,

كَلَّآ إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ

Kallaaa innahum 'ar Rabbihim yawma'izil lamah jooboon

Indeed! On that Day, they would be Veiled from their Lord

ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُوا۟ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

Summa innahum lasaa lul jaheem

Then they would arrive to the Blazing Fire

ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ

Summa yuqaalu haazal lazee kuntum bihee tukazziboon

Then it would be said: ‘This is the one you had been belying!’

كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَـٰبَ ٱلْأَبْرَارِ لَفِى عِلِّيِّينَ

Kallaaa inna kitaabal abraari lafee'Illiyyeen

Indeed! the Book of the righteous would be in Illiyeen (highest Heaven)

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ

Wa maaa adraaka maa 'Illiyyoon

And what would you know/grasp what Illiyeen is?

كِتَـٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ

Kitaabum marqoom

A marked/explained/written Book

يَشْهَدُهُ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ

Yashhadu hul muqarra boon

The ones of Proximity would witness it

إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍ

Innal abraara lafee Na'eem

Surely, the righteous would be in Bliss/Paradise

عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ

'Alal araaa'iki yanzuroon

Upon the couches they would be gazing (looking at each other)

تَعْرِفُ فِى وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ

Ta'rifu fee wujoohihim nadratan na'eem

You will recognise in their faces, the freshness of Bliss/bounties

يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ

Yusqawna mir raheeqim makhtoom

They would be Quenched from sealed nectar

خِتَـٰمُهُۥ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِى ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ ٱلْمُتَنَـٰفِسُونَ

Khitaamuhoo misk; wa fee zaalika falyatanaafasil Mutanaafisoon

Its sealing being of musk, and regarding that, so let the aspiring ones aspire

وَمِزَاجُهُۥ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ

Wa mizaajuhoo min Tasneem

And its mixture would be from Tasneem

عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ

'Ainaiy yashrabu bihal muqarraboon

A spring, the ones of Proximity would be drinking from

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا۟ كَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يَضْحَكُونَ

Innal lazeena ajramoo kaanoo minal lazeena aamanoo yadhakoon

Surely, those who committed crimes (criminals) used to laugh at those who believed

وَإِذَا مَرُّوا۟ بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ

Wa izaa marroo bihim yataghaamazoon

And when he passed by them, they winked at each other

وَإِذَا ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمُ ٱنقَلَبُوا۟ فَكِهِينَ

Wa izan qalabooo ilaaa ahlihimun qalaboo fakiheen

And when they returned to their people, they returned jesting (joking)

وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ

Wa izaa ra awhum qaalooo inna haaa'ulaaa'i lazaaal loon

And when they saw them, they said, ‘Surely they are straying’

وَمَآ أُرْسِلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ حَـٰفِظِينَ

Wa maaa ursiloo 'alaihim haafizeen

And they were not Sent as keepers over them

فَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ

Fal yawmal lazeena aamanoo minal kuffaari yadhakoon

So today (Day of Judgement), those who believe shall be laughing at the Kafirs

عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ

'Alal araaa'iki yanzuroon

Upon the couches, they would be gazing

هَلْ ثُوِّبَ ٱلْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ

Hal suwwibal kuffaaru maa kaanoo yaf'aloon

Would the Kafirs be Rewarded (except for) what they had been doing?
