At-Tariq

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ

Wassamaaa'i wattaariq

(I Swear) by the sky and (I Swear) Al-Tariq

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ

Wa maaa adraaka mattaariq

And what will make you realise what is Al-Tariq?

ٱلنَّجْمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ

Annajmus saaqib

(It is) the star of piercing brightness

إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌ

In kullu nafsil lammaa 'alaihaa haafiz

There is not a soul but over it is a protector

فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ

Fal yanzuril insaanu mimma khuliq

So let the human being consider from what he is Created

خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍ دَافِقٍ

Khuliqa mim maaa'in daafiq

He is Created from of water ejected

يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ ٱلصُّلْبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ

Yakhruju mim bainissulbi wat taraaa'ib

Coming from between the loins and the ribs

إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٌ

Innahoo 'alaa raj'ihee laqaadir

Surely, He is Able upon Returning him

يَوْمَ تُبْلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ

Yawma tublas saraaa'ir

On the day when the secrets would be Revealed

فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٍ وَلَا نَاصِرٍ

Famaa lahoo min quwwatinw wa laa naasir

So, there would neither be any strength for him nor a helper

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجْعِ

Wassamaaa'i zaatir raj'

(I swear) by the sky with its cycle

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدْعِ

Wal ardi zaatis sad'

And the earth with the crevices (cracks)

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلٌ فَصْلٌ

Innahoo laqawlun fasl

Surely, it is a Decisive Word

وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلْهَزْلِ

Wa maa huwa bil hazl

And it is not an amusement/mockery

إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًا

Innahum yakeedoona kaidaa

They would be plotting a plot

وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًا

Wa akeedu kaidaa

And I would (too) be Planning a plan

فَمَهِّلِ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًۢا

Famahhilil kaafireena amhilhum ruwaidaa

So, respite the Kafirs, respiting them gently for a while
