Tasbeeh – The Glorifications and Tasbeehat e Arbaah

Summary:

We are encouraged to ‘Glorify Allah-azwj’ (Zikr); doing so brings so many rewards, as well as protection from the attacks of Iblis-la, and sustenance is rushed towards the glorifying person, however, one has to be sincere in their Zikr, both during the time of obedience as well as when being undevout, for example:

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Hisham Bin Salim, from Abu Ubeyda, from;

Abu Abdullah-asws (6th Imam-asws) says: ‘From the most difficult of what Allah-azwj Imposed upon His-azwj creatures is the frequent Mention of Allah-azwj’. Then he-asws said: ‘I-asws do not mean (saying of), ‘Glory be to Allah-azwj, and the Praise is due to Allah-azwj, and there is no god except for Allah-azwj, and Allah-azwj is the Greatest’, and even though this is from it, but the Mention of Allah-azwj during what He-azwj has Permitted and Prohibited. So, if it was obedience, act upon it, and if it was disobedience, leave it’.[1] See, a similar Hadith in the Appendix I.

(The book) ‘Al Khisaal’ – Al Famy, from Ibn Buttah, from Al Barqy, from his father, from Safwan Bin Yahya raising it to,

‘Abu Abdullah-asws said: ‘Iblees-la said, ‘Five things, there aren’t any means for me-la regarding these while the rest of the people are in my-la grip – one who holds tightly with Allah-azwj from his sincere intention, and he relies upon Him-azwj in entirety of his affairs, and one who frequently glorifies Him-azwj during his night and his day, and one who is satisfied for his Momin brother what he is satisfied for himself, and one who does not panic upon the difficulty until it hits him, and one who is satisfied with whatever Allah-azwj has Distributed to him and does not accuse for His-azwj sustenance’’.[2]

(The book) ‘Al Amaali’ of Al Sadouq – My father, from Sa’ad, from Ibn Abu Al Khattab, from Ja’far Bin Bashir, from Hammad Bin Waqid,

‘From Al-Sadiq Ja’far-asws Bin Muhammad-asws having said: ‘One who says,

‘Glory be to Allah-azwj and with His-azwj Praise! Glory be to Allah-azwj the Magnificent!’, thirty (30) times, he will receive the riches and the poverty will turn around, and he will knock on the door of Paradise’’.[3]

In addition to grand rewards of four Tasbeehat (Glorifications), these can be recited in the last two Rakat of Salat, and highly recommended to recite after the Qasr Salat.

‘And as for his-as words: ‘The Praise is for Allah-azwj’, He-azwj Knew that the servant will not be fulfilling thanks for His-azwj bounties, so He-azwj Praised Himself-azwj before they praised Him-azwj, and it is the first Speech. Had it not been that, Allah-azwj would not have Favoured upon anyone with His-azwj bounties.

‘And His-azwj Words: ‘There is no god except Allah-azwj’, it means His-azwj Oneness. Allah-azwj does not Accept the deeds except with it, and it is the word of piety. Allah-azwj will Make the scales heavier with it on the Day of Qiyamah.

And as for his words: ‘Allah-azwj is Greatest’, it is a phrase, most exalted of the phrases, and the most beloved of these to Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic, meaning: “There isn’t anything greater than Me-azwj”. You cannot begin the Salat(s) except by it due to its prestige unto Allah-azwj, and it is the Greatest Name’.

The Jew said, ‘You-saww speak the truth, O Muhammad-saww! So, what is a Recompense of its speaker?’

He-saww said: ‘When the servant says, ‘Glory be to Allah-azwj’, there will glorify along with him whatever is below the Throne. Its speaker would be Given ten the likes of it.

And if he says, ‘The Praise is for Allah-azwj’, Allah-azwj will Favour upon him with bounties of the world connected with bounties of the Hereafter, and it is the phrase which the people of the Paradise will be saying when they enter it, and the talk which they were saying in the world will be terminated apart from, ‘The Praise be to Allah-azwj’, and that is Words of Mighty and Majestic: Their call therein would be, ‘Glory is Yours, O Allah!’ And their greeting therein would be, ‘Peace’, and the last of their calls would be, ‘The Praise is for Allah, Lord of the worlds’ [10:10].

And as for his words: ‘There is no god except Allah-azwj’, the Paradise would be his Recompense, and that is Word of the Mighty and Majestic: Is the Recompense of goodness except for the goodness? [55:60]. He-azwj is Saying: “Is the Recompense of (saying), ‘There is no god except Allah-azwj except the Paradise?”’

The Jew said, ‘You-saww speak the truth, O Muhammad-saww!’ – the Hadeeth’’.[13]

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Isa, from Ali Bin Al Hakam, from Sayf Bin Ameyra, from Bakr Bin Abu Bakr, from Zurara Bin Ayn,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws having said: ‘The Glorification (Tasbeeh) of (Syeda) Fatima Al-Zahra-asws is from the ‘Abundant Zikr’ which Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Speaks of [33:41] Mention Allah, with a frequent Mentioning’.

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws – similar to it.[29]

AI-Hussain ibn Mohammed has narrated from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Amir from Ali ibn Mahziyar from Fadalah ibn Ayyub from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following:

“Abu ‘Abd Allah-asws has said: ‘One who reads Tasbih of Fatimah al-Zahra-asws‘,[30] after an obligatory Salat and before moving his legs away from his position Allah-azwj Forgives him and he should begin with al-Takbir (Allahu Akbar).’[31]

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Mohammed ibn Khalid, who from Yahya ibn Mohammed, who from Ali ibn al-Nu’man, who from ibn abu Najran, who from a man who had said the following:

‘Abu’ Abd Allah-asws has said: ‘If one speaks of the Glory of Allah after completing an obligatory Salat in the form of Tasbih of Fatimah al-Zahra-asws‘, and following this says, one hundred times, “No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah-azwj,” Allah-azwj Forgives him.’

Ahmad ibn Idris from Mohammed ibn Ahmad in a marfu manner has said the following:

‘Abu ‘Abd Allah-asws has said: ‘If you face uncertainty about Tasbih of Fatimah al-Zahra-asws, say it again.’[32]

A question was asked, among several questions, from Imam-e-Zamanajfj, Imam-ajfj wrote back in a letter (Touqi):

Question:  What if one recites more than 34 times ‘Allah’Akbr’ in Tasbih of Fatimah Al-Zahra-asws by mistake, does he need to go back and restart the Tasbih or revert back to no. 34 and continue from there?  How about if one has gone up to 67 (34+33 – instead of saying ‘Alhamd’ Allah’ but kept on saying Allah’Akbr), does he restart the Tasbih or revert back?  What shall one do under these mistakes?

Answer of Imamajfj:  In mistake of Allah’Akbr, one should go back 33 and start from there (Alhamd’ Allah); but if mistake is in ‘Subhan Allah’ and has gone more than 67 then go back to 66 and then start from there.  However, if mistake is ‘Alhamd’ Allah’ and has even reached 100, then there is no harm in it.[33]

In another Hadith, it is as:

From him, who from Safwan, who from Ibn Bukayr, who said:

I said to Abu Abd Allah-asws, about the words of Allah-azwj, ‘اذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ ذِكْراً كَثِيراً’ “Remember Allah with much remembrance (41:23).” ‘What is much remembrance? He-asws said: That you glorify Allah-azwj thirty times after the obligatory prayer.’’[34]

Rosary and rotating it is from Sunnah

(The book) ‘Makarim Al Akhlaq’, from ‘Masmouaat’ of the Seyyid Abu Al Barkaat of Al Mash’hady, reported by Ibrahim Bin Muhammad Al Saqafy,

‘(Syeda) Fatima-asws daughter-asws of Rasool-Allah-saww, her-asws rosary was from threaded spun wool beads tied and knotted of the number of the exclamations of Takbeer. She-asws was rotating it by her-asws hand and glorifying up to when Hamza-as Bin Abdul Muttalib-as was killed, may Allah-azwj be Pleased with him-as, chief of the martyrs. She-asws used his-as soil (of the grave) and made the rosary, so the people used it.

When Al-Husayn-asws, may the Salawaat of Allah-azwj be upon him-asws, was killed, the matter was modified to him-asws, so they used his-asws soil due to what merit advantage was in it’’.[35]

And in the book of Al Hassan Bin Mahboub –

‘Abu Abdullah-asws was asked about utilising the two soils from the clay of the grave of Hamza‑as and Al-Husayn-asws, and the meritorious between the two. He-asws said: ‘The rosary which is from the grave of Al-Husayn-asws glories in the hand of the man without him glorifying’’.[36]

And it is reported – ‘When the Maiden Hourie sees one of the Angels going down to the earth for a matter, what they seek gift from him is the rosary and the soil from the clay of the grave of Al-Husayn-asws’’.

And it is reported from the Sadiq-asws having said: ‘One who rotates it (rosary) one time with seeking the Forgiveness or something else, it would be written for seventy times, and the Sajdah performed upon it pierces the seven veils’’.[37]

From (the book) ‘Rowzat Al Wizeen’ –

‘Abu Al-Hassan Musa-asws said: ‘Our-asws Shias are not needless from four – from a ‘Khumrah’ (straw mat/Mohr) praying Salat upon it, and a ring to be wearing it, and a toothbrush he brushes the teeth with, and a rosary (Tasbeeh) from the clay of the grave of Al-Husayn-asws wherein are thirty-three seeds (beads), when he turns it doing Zikr of Allah-azwj, Allah-azwj will Write forty good deeds being for him with every seed (bead), and when he turns it carelessly vainly with it, Allah-azwj will Write twenty good deeds for him’’.[38]

(The book) ‘Da’waat’ of Al Rawandy – And it is reported,

‘When Ali--asws Bin Al-Husayn--asws was carried to Yazeed--la, may Allah--azwj Curse him-la, he-la considered with striking off his-asws neck. He-la paused him-asws in front of him-la and he-la was talking to him-asws in order for him-asws to speak any word which could be used as an excuse of killing him-asws due to it, and Ali-asws was answering him-la, according to what he-la was speaking to him-asws, and in his-asws hand was a small rosary he-asws was rotating it with his-asws fingers, and he-as was talking.

Yazeed-la said to him-asws, ‘I-la am speaking to you-asws and you-asws are answering me-la and rotating your-asws fingers with a rosary in your-asws hand! So how can that be allowed?’

He-asws said: ‘It is narrated to me-asws by my-asws father-asws, from my-asws grandfather-asws that whenever he-asws had prayed the morning Salat and turned, would not talk until he-asws had taken a rosary between his-asws hands and said: ‘O Allah-azwj! I-asws come to the morning and I-asws glorify You-azwj, and I-asws extol You-azwj, and praise Your-azwj, and extol Your-azwj Holiness by a number what I-asws rotate my-asws rosary with’.

And he-asws would take the rosary and rotate it, and he-asws would be talking with whatever he‑asws wanted from without talking with the glorifications. And he-asws mentioned that it would be counted for him-asws, and it is a protection until he-asws sheltered to his-asws bed. So, when he-asws sheltered to his-asws bed, he-asws said similar to that word, and would place his-asws rosary under his-asws head, so it would be counted for him-asws from the time to the time’. So, I-asws am doing this following the example of my-asws grandfather-asws’.

Yazeed-la said to him, ‘I-la do not speak to anyone from you-asws except and he-asws answers me-la with what he-asws seeks refuge with it’. And he-la changed (his mind of killing) him-asws and aided him-asws and ordered with freeing him-asws’’.[39]

(The book) ‘Al Zikra’ –

‘Al-Sadiq-asws said: ‘One who were to have a rosary with him from clay of the grave of Al-Husayn-asws, he will be written as being glorifying and even if he does not glorify with it’’.[40]

The recitation in the two last Rak’at and the Glorification (Tasbeeh) in these two

Al Husayn Bin Muhammad, from Abdullah Bin Aamir, from Ali Bin Mahziyar, from Al Nazar Bin Suweyd, from Muhammad Bin Abu Hamza, from Muawiya Bin Ammar who said,

‘I asked Abu Abdullah-asws about the recitation behind the prayer leader in the last two Rak’at, so he-asws said: ‘The prayer leader recites the Opening of the Book (Chapter 1), and the ones behind him should Glorify. So when you were alone, then you can recite in these two (Rak’at), and if you so desire to, so you Glorify’.[41]

Muhammad Bin Ismail, from Al Fazl Bin ShAzān, from Hammad Bin Isa, from Hareyz, from Zurara who said,

‘I said to Abu Ja’far-asws, ‘What suffices from the words during the last two Rak’at?’ He-asws said: ‘Your saying, ‘Glorious be to Allah-azwj, and the Praise is for Allah-azwj, and there is no god except for Allah-azwj, and Allah-azwj is the Greatest’, and you exclaim a Takbīr, and you perform Rukū’.[42]

Reciting Tasbeeh after Fajr Salat:

From him, from Ibn Mahboub, from Al A’ala Bin Razeyn, from Muhammad Bin Muslim who said,

‘I asked Abu Ja’far-asws about the Glorification (Tasbeeh). So he-asws said: ‘I-asws do not know of anything other than the Tasbeeh of Fatima-asws; and ten times after Al-Fajr (Salat) you should be saying,

‘There is no god except Allah-azwj, Alone, there being no associates for Him-azwj. For Him-azwj is the Kingdom, and for Him-azwj is the Praise; and He-azwj Curses to live and He-azwj Causes to die, and He-azwj is Able upon everything’.

And then you can Glorify whatever you so desire to, voluntarily’.[43]

What is the minimum one can recite in the two last Rak’at from Tasbeehat

Abu Baseer narrates that,

Abu Abdullah-asws said: The minimum that is sufficient to say in the last two rak’ahs is three glorifications, which is to say: ‘سُبْحَانَ‏ اللَّهِ‏ سُبْحَانَ‏ اللَّهِ‏ سُبْحَانَ‏ اللَّهِ’ Glory be to God, glory be to God, glory be to God. I say that this is based on necessity.

To recite Tasbeeh’s Arabah after Qasr Salat:

From Muhammad Bin Al-Hasan, on the authority of Muhammad bin Ali bin Mahbub, on the authority of Muhammad bin Isa al-Ubaidi, on the authority of Sulayman bin Hafs al-Marwazi, said:

Al-Faqi Al-Askari-asws said: It is obligatory for the traveller to say after every prayer in which he shortens: Glory be to God, praise be to God, there is no god but God, and God is greatest, thirty times to complete the prayer.’

Muhammad bin Ali bin al-Husayn in (Uyun al-Akhbar) from Tamim bin Abdullah bin Tamim, from his father, who from Ahmad bin Ali Al-Ansari, from Raja bin Abi Al-Dahhak, from;

Imam Ali Raza-asws, that he accompanied him-asws on a journey and he-asws used to say after every prayer that he-asws shortened: Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah-azwj, and Allah-azwj is the Greatest, thirty (30) times, and he would say: This is the completion of the prayer.’’[45]

‘I heard Abu Abdullah-asws saying: ‘The chief of the deeds are three – Fairness with the people from yourself until you are not pleased with something except you are pleased for with the like of it; and you are equalising with the brother in the wealth; and remembering Allah-azwj upon every state. (This is) not (only saying),

From his grandfather (Imam) Al-Hassan-asws Ibn Ali-asws Bin Abu Talib-asws having said: ‘A number of Jews came to Rasool-Allah-saww, and (one of them) said, ‘O Muhammad-saww! Are you-saww the one who claims that you-saww are a Rasool-saww of Allah-azwj, and you-saww are the one it has been Revealed unto just as it was Revealed to Musa-as Bin Imran-as?’ The Prophet-saww was silent for a while then said: ‘Yes, I-saww am the Chief of the children of Adam-as, no pride, and I-saww am the last of the Prophets-as, and Imam-saww of the pious, and Rasool-saww of the Lord‑azwj of the worlds’. They said, ‘To whom? To the Arabs or to the non-Arabs or to us?’ So, Allah-azwj the Exalted Revealed this Verse: Say: O Muhammad, ‘O you people! I am a Rasool of Allah to you all, [7:158]’ the pious, and Rasool-saww of the Lord-azwj of the worlds’. They said, ‘To whom? To the Jew who was the most knowledgeable of them, said, ‘O Muhammad-saww! I ask you‑saww about ten phrases which Allah-azwj Gave Musa-as Bin Imran-as in the Blessed spot where He-azwj whispered to him-saww, none would know it except a Mursil Prophet-as or an Angel of Proximity’. The Prophet-saww said: ‘Ask me-saww’ He said, ‘Inform me, O Muhammad-saww, about the phrases which Allah-azwj Chose for Ibrahim-as when he-as built the House’. The Prophet-saww said: ‘Yes – it is Subh’aanallaahi wal h’amdu lillaahi wa laa ilaaha illallaahu wallaahu akbar. The Jew said, ‘Due to which thing (reason) did he-as build the Kabah as a square?’ The Prophet‑saww said: ‘Due to the four phrases’. He said, ‘From which thing (reason) was the Kabah named as such?’ The Prophet-saww said: ‘Because it is in the middle of the world’. The Jew said, ‘Inform me about the interpretation of, Subh’aanallaahi wal h’amdu lillaahi wa laa ilaaha illallaahu wallaahu akbar. The Prophet-saww said: ‘Allah-azwj the Mighty and Majestic Knew that the children of Adam-as would be belying upon Allah-azwj, so He(-azwj) Said: “Subh’aan Allaah” as a disownment from what they are saying. And as for His-azwj Words: “Alhamdu lillaah”, He-azwj Knows that the servants will not be giving thanks for His-azwj Favours, so He-azwj Praised Himself-azwj before anyone praised Him-azwj, and it is the first Speech. Had it not been for that, Allah-azwj would not have Favoured upon anyone with His-azwj Bounties. His-azwj Words: “Lailaaha illallaah-azwj”, means His-azwj Unity. Allah-azwj does not Accept the deeds except with it, and it is a phrase of piety. Allah-azwj would Cause the scales to be heavy with it on the Day of Judgment. And as for His-azwj Words: “Allaahu Akbar”, it is a phrase, the highest of the phrases, and the most Beloved to Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic – meaning “There isn’t anything greater than Me-azwj”. The Salah cannot begin except with it due to its prestige unto Allah-azwj Allah-azwj, and it is the dearest and the most prestigious Name’. The Jew said, ‘You‑saww speak the truth, O Muhammad-saww! So, what is the Recompense of its speaker?’ He‑saww said: ‘When the servant says, ‘Subh’aan Allaah’, there glorify along with him whatever is below the Throne, and its speaker is Granted ten times its like’. And when he says, ‘Alhamdu lillaah’, Allah-azwj Favours upon him with the Bounties of the world linked with the Bounties of the Hereafter, and it is the phrase which the people of the Paradise would be saying when they enter it, and it would cut off the speech which they are saying in the world besides ‘The Praise is for Allah-azwj, and these are the Words of the Mighty and Majestic: Their call therein would be, ‘Glory is Yours, O Allah!’ And their greeting therein would be, ‘Peace’, and the last of their calls would be, ‘The Praise is for Allah, Lord of the worlds’ [10:10].And as for His‑azwj Words: ‘Lailaaha illallaah’, its Recompense is the Paradise, and these are the Words of the Mighty and Majestic: Is the Recompense of goodness except for the goodness? [55:60]. He-azwj is Saying: “Is a Recompense of the one who says, ‘Lailaaha illallaah’ except the Paradise?” The Jew said, ‘You speak the truth, O Muhammad-saww! You-saww have informed me of one, so allow me to ask you-saww the second’. The Prophet-saww said: ‘Ask me-saww about whatever you like’, and Jibraeel-as was on the right of the Prophet-saww, and Mikaeel-as on his‑saww left, indoctrinating him-saww’.[47]

Salāt of the Glorification (Tasbeeh)

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Yahya Al-Halby, from Haroun Bin Jariya, from Abu Baseer,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws having said: ‘Rasool-Allah-saww said to Ja’far-as (Bin Abu Talib-as): ‘O Ja’far-as! Shall I-saww confer upon you-as, shall I-saww give you-as, shall I gift you-as (something)?’ So Ja’far-as said to him-saww: ‘Yes, O Rasool-Allah-saww!’ He-asws said: ‘So the people thought that he-saww would give him-as some gold or silver, and the people anticipated for that.

So he-saww said to him-asws: ‘I-saww am giving you-as something, if you-as were to act upon it during every day, it would be better for you-as than the world and whatever is in it, and if you-as were to do it in between two days, Allah-azwj would Forgive for you-as whatever (you-as committed) what is between the two (days), or every Friday, or every month, or every year, (your-as sins) would be Forgive for you-as whatever (you-as committed) between the two.

You-as should pray four Rak’at. You-as should begin reciting and you-as should be saying, when you-as are free: ‘Glory be to Allah-azwj, and the Praise is for Allah-azwj, and there is no god except for Allah-azwj, and Allah-azwj is the Greatest’. You should say that fifteen times after the recitation. So when you-as go down into Rukū say it ten times. So when you-as raise your-as head from the Rukū, say it ten times. So when you-as perform Sajdah, say it ten times. So when you-as raise your-as head from the Sajdah, say it ten times between the two Sajdahs. So when you-as perform Sajdah the second (Sajdah) say it ten times. So when you-as raise your-as head from the second Sajdah say it ten times, while you-as are seated, before you-as stand.

So that would be seventy-five Glorifications during every Rak’at, being three hundred Glorification in four Rak’at. In four (Rak’at) there would be one thousand two hundred Glorifications, and Extollations of Oneness, and exclamations of Takbīr’s, and Praises. If you-as so desire to, pray it during the day, and if you-as so desire to, pray it at night.’’

And in a report of Ibrahim Bin Abdul Hameed,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Al-Hassan-asws (having said): ‘You should recite in the first (Rak’at) [99:1] When the earth is shaken (Chapter 99), and in the second (Rak’at) [100:1] I swear by the runners (Chapter 100), and in the third (Rak’at) [110:1] When there comes the help of Allah (Chapter 110), and in the fourth (Rak’at) [112:1] Say He Allah is One (Chapter 112)’. I said, ‘So what are its Rewards?’ He-asws said: ‘If there were upon him sin like the grains of sand, Allah-azwj would Forgive them for him’. Then he-asws looked at me, so he-asws said: ‘But rather, that is for you and for your companions (The Shias)’.[48]

Tasbeeh and the Five hundred Dirhams being the Sunnah dower

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Abu Nasr, from Al Husayn Bin Khalid and Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Amro Bin Usman Al Khazzaz, from A man, from Al Husayn Bin Khalid who said,

‘I asked Abu Al-Hassan-asws about the Sunnah dowry, how did it come to be of five hundred (Dirhams)’. So he-asws said: ‘Allah-azwj Blessed and High Obligated upon Himself-azwj if a Believer were to exclaim His-azwj Greatness (Allah-o-Akbar) with one hundred exclamations, and Glorify Him-azwj (Subhan-Allah) with one hundred Glorifications, and Praise Him-azwj (Al-Hamdulillah) with one hundred Praises, and Extol Him-azwj one hundred Extollations (Tahleel), and send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and his-saww Progeny-asws (Salawaat) one hundred times, then says, ‘O Allah-azwj! Get me married to the Maiden Houries’, except that Allah-azwj Will Get him to be married to the Maiden Houries, and make that (Tasbeeh) as her dower.

Then Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Revealed unto His-azwj Prophet-saww that a Sunnah dower of the Believing women is of five hundred Dirhams. Therefore, Rasool-Allah-saww did that, and whichever Believer proposes to his brother for his honourable daughter and says, ‘Five hundred Dirhams (being the dower)’, but he does not give in marriage to him, so he has been disloyal to him, and deserves from Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic that He-azwj does not get him married to the Houries’.[49]

Zikr in Tasbeeh:

A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Al Qasim Bin Yahya, from his grandfather Al Hassan Bin Rashid, from Al Husayn Bin Suweyr who said,

‘I, and Yunus Bin Zibyan, and Al-Mufazzal Bin Umar, and Abu Salma Al-Sarraj were seated in the presence of Abu Abdullah-asws, and the speaker from us was Ynus, and he was the eldest of us in age. So he said to him-asws, ‘May I be sacrificed for you-asws! I tend to be present in the gatherings of these people, meaning the sons of Al-Abbas, so what should I be saying?’ So he-asws said: ‘Whenever you are present, so mention us-asws and say, ‘O Allah-azwj! Show us the ease and the happiness’, for you would come upon what you want’.

Thereafter, I said, ‘May I be sacrificed for you-asws! I frequently mention Al-Husayn-asws, so which should I be saying?’ He-asws said: Say, ‘May Allah-azwj Send Blessings upon you-asws, O Abu Abdullah-asws!’ – repeating that three times, for the greetings arrives to him-asws from nearby and from afar. Then say, ‘Abu Abdullah-asws was such that when he-asws passed away, the seven skies and the seven firmaments and whatever is in them cried over him-asws, and the ones who move around in the Paradise and the Fire, from the creatures of our Lord-azwj, and what can be seen and what cannot be seen cry upon Abu Abdullah Al-Husayn-asws, except for three things which did not cry upon him-asws’.

I said, ‘May I be sacrificed for you-asws! And what are these three things?’ He-asws said: ‘Three did not cry upon him-asws (the people of) Al-Basra, nor (people of) Syria, nor the progeny of Usman, may the Curse of Allah-azwj be upon them’. I said, ‘May I be sacrificed for you-asws! I want to perform his-asws Ziyarah, so what should I be doing?’ He-asws said: ‘When you go to Abu Abdullah-asws, so wash (yourself) upon the banks of the Euphrates, then wear your clean clothes, then walk bare-footed, for you would be in a Harram from a Harram of Allah-azwj, and a Harram of His-azwj Rasool-saww, and it is upon you with the exclamations of Greatness (Takbeer), and the Holiness (Tahleel), and the Glorification (Tasbeeh), and the Praise (Tahmeed), and the reverence for Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic, a lot, and the sending of Salawaat upon Muhammad-saww and the People-asws of his-saww Household until you come to the door of Al-Heyr.

Then you should be saying, ‘The greetings be upon you-asws, O Proof of Allah-azwj, and a son-asws of His-azwj Proof. The greetings be upon you, O Angels of Allah-azwj and the visitors of the grave of a son-asws of the Prophet-saww of Allah-azwj!’ Then take ten steps, then pause and exclaim thirty Takbeers. Then walk towards him-asws until you come to him-asws from its front side, so turn your face towards his-asws face, and make the Qiblah to be between your shoulders, then say, ‘The greetings be upon you-asws, O Proof of Allah-azwj, and son-asws of His-azwj Proof. The greetings be upon you-asws, O the one (who was) killed for (the sake of) Allah-azwj, and a son-asws of the one-asws (who was) killed for Him-azwj.

The greetings be upon you-asws, of helper of Allah-azwj and a son-asws of His-azwj helper. The greetings be upon you-asws, O the most oppressed ones of the oppressed ones of Allah-azwj in the skies and the earth. I testify that your-asws blood would settle in the eternity, and the shades of the Throne would shudder for it, and they would be crying for it, the entirety of the creatures, and they would cry for it, the seven skies and the seven firmaments and whatever is within them, and whatever is in between them, and the ones who move about in the Paradise and the Fire, from the creatures of our Lord-azwj, and what can be seen and what cannot be seen. I testify that you-asws are the Proof of Allah-azwj and a son-asws of His-azwj Proof.

And I testify that you are the one (who was) killed for (the sake of) Allah-azwj and a son-asws of the one-asws (was) killed for Him-azwj. And I testify that you-asws are a helper of Allah-azwj and a son-asws of His-azwj helpers. And I testify that you-asws are the most oppressed one of the oppressed ones of Allah-azwj in the skies and the earth. And I testify that you-asws have delivered, and preached, and were loyal and accomplished, and struggled in the Way of Allah-azwj, and passed away for which you-asws were martyred upon, and were seeking martyrdom, and were a witness, and were witnessed’.

Through you-asws, Allah-azwj Exposes the lies, and through you-asws does Allah-azwj Distances the era of the dogs, and by you-asws does Allah-azwj Grant victory, and by you-asws Allah-azwj Ends (matters), and by you-asws He-azwj Deletes whatever He-azwj so Desires to, and by you-asws He-azwj Affirms, and by you-asws He-azwj Repels the humiliation from our necks, and by you-asws Allah-azwj Causes all the Believers to realise justice seeking by it, and by you-asws does the earth grow its trees, and by you-asws the trees bring out their fruits, and by you-asws does the sky send down its drops and its sustenance, and by you-asws does Allah-azwj Remove the worries, and by you-asws Allah-azwj Sends down the rain, and by you-asws the earth does the earth subside carrying your-asws bodies, and the mountains come to a rest from its anchorages. The Intentions of the Lord-azwj in the Ordainment of His-azwj affairs descends to you-asws, and gets implemented from your-asws houses, and the implementation about what decisions are to be made from the regulations of the servants.

Curse be upon the community which murdered you-asws, and the community which opposed you-asws, and the community which fought against your-asws Wilayah, and the community which were openly against you-asws, and the community who witnessed and did not seek martyrdom. Praise be to Allah-azwj Who Made the Fire to be their dwelling, and evil is the return of the returners, and evil is the return of the returning ones; and the Praise is for Allah-azwj, Lord-azwj of the worlds, and Blessings be upon you-asws, O Abu Abdullah-asws. I am from the ones who disavow from those who opposed you-asws’ – (saying it) three times.

Then you should arise and go to his-asws son Ali-as, and he-asws is by his-asws feet, so you should be saying, ‘The greetings be upon you-asws, O son-asws of Rasool-Allah-saww! The greetings be upon you-asws, O son-asws of Amir Al-Momineen-asws. The greetings be upon you-asws O son-as of Al-Hassan-asws and Al-Husayn-asws. The greetings be upon you-asws O son-asws of Khadeeja-asws and Fatima-asws. May Allah-azwj Curse the one who murdered you-as’ – saying it three times. ‘I am, to Allah-azwj, disavowing from them’ – three times.

Then arise and gesture towards the martyrs and you should be saying, ‘The greetings be upon you’ – three times. ‘You succeeded, by Allah-azwj, you succeeded, by Allah-azwj! And if only I was with you all, so I would have succeeded with a great success’. Then turn around, so make the grave of Abu Abdullah-asws to be in front of you-asws, and Pray six Cycles of Salaat, and you would have completed your Ziyarah. Thus, if you so desire to, so leave’.[50]

‘Shihab Bin Abd Rabbih asked him to ask Abu Abdullah-asws and said, ‘Tell him-asws that a woman terrified me during the sleep at night’. So he-asws said: ‘Make Glorifications (Do Tasbeeh) and Exclaim Greatness of Allah-azwj (Takbeer) thirty four (times), and Glorify Allah-azwj (Subhan Allah-azwj) thirty three times, and Praise Allah-azwj (Al Hamd Li Allah-azwj) thirty three times, and say, ‘There is no god except Allah-azwj, Alone, there being no associate for Him-azwj. For Him-azwj is the Kingdom and for Him-azwj is the Praise. He-azwj Causes to live and He-azwj Causes to die, and He-azwj Causes to die and He-azwj Causes to live. In His-azwj Hand is the goodness and for Him-azwj is the interchange of the night and the day, and He-azwj is Able over everything’, ten times’.[51]
