Dog and if it touches clothes

 Summary:

Dogs are considered unclean in Islam, however, if required, dogs may be trained for hunting purposes. Some Ahadith are compiled from Al-Kafi related to dog touching cloths, body and abhorrence of keeping dogs in houses.

الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ أَبَانٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ جَبْرَئِيلُ ( عليه السلام ) يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا لَا نَدْخُلُ بَيْتاً فِيهِ صُورَةُ إِنْسَانٍ وَ لَا بَيْتاً يُبَالُ فِيهِ وَ لَا بَيْتاً فِيهِ كَلْبٌ .

Al Husayn Bin Muhammad, from Moalla Bin Muhammad, from Al Hassan Bin Ali Al Washa, from Aban, from Amro Bin Khalid,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Ja’far-asws having said: ‘Jibraeel-as said: ‘O Rasool-Allah-saww! We (Angels) do not enter a house wherein is a picture of a human being, nor a house (room) wherein it is urinated in, nor a house wherein is a dog’.[1]

عَنْهُ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْكَلْبِ نُمْسِكُهُ فِي الدَّارِ قَالَ لَا .

From him, from Usman, from Sama’at who said,

‘I asked about the dog, ‘Can we keep it in the house?’ He-asws said: ‘No’.[2]

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( صلوات الله عليه ) لَا خَيْرَ فِي الْكِلَابِ إِلَّا كَلْبَ صَيْدٍ أَوْ كَلْبَ مَاشِيَةٍ .

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Isa, from Yusuf Bin Aqeel, from Muhammad Bin Qays,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Ja’far-asws having said: ‘Amir Al-Momineen-asws said: ‘There is no goodness in the dogs except for the hunting dog, or a walking dog’.[3]

عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بُنْدَارَ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي هَاشِمٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ الْعَمَّارِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَصَمِّ عَنْ مِسْمَعِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْعَامِرِيِّ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَنْ ثَمَنِ الْكَلْبِ الَّذِي لَا يَصِيدُ فَقَالَ سُحْتٌ فَأَمَّا الصَّيُودُ فَلَا بَأْسَ .

Ali Bin Muhammad Bin Bundar, from Ahmad Bin Abu Abdullah, from Muhammad Bin Ali, from Abdul Rahman Bin Abu Hashim, from Al Qasim Bin Al Waleed Al Ammary, from Abdul Rahman Al Asamma, from Misma’a Bin Abdul Malik, from Abu Abdulla Al Amiry who said,

‘I asked Abu Abdullah-asws about the price of the dog which does not hunt, so he-asws said: ‘An ill-gotten gain. So as for the hunters, so there is no problem’.[4]

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ هَارُونُ بْنُ مُوسَى التَّلَّعُكْبَرِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْكُلَيْنِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى جَمِيعاً عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِي كِتَابِ عَلِيٍّ ( عليه السلام ) فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ ما عَلَّمْتُمْ مِنَ الْجَوارِحِ مُكَلِّبِينَ قَالَ هِيَ الْكِلَابُ .

Abu Muhammad Haroun Bin Musa Al Talakbary narrated to us, from Abu Ja’far Muhammad Bin Yaqoub Al Kulayni, from Ali Bin Ibrahim, form his father, and Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Isa, altogether, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Hammad Bin Usman, from Al Halby,

Abu Abdullah-asws has said: ‘In the Book of Ali-asws regarding the Words of Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic [5:4] and what you have taught the hunting animals, trained ones. He-asws said: ‘These are the (hunting) dogs’.[5]

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ عَمَّنْ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِذَا مَسَّ ثَوْبَكَ الْكَلْبُ فَإِنْ كَانَ يَابِساً فَانْضَحْهُ وَ إِنْ كَانَ رَطْباً فَاغْسِلْهُ .

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Hammad Bin Isa, from Hareyz, from Muhammad, from the one who informed him,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws having said: ‘When the dog touches your clothes, so if it was dry then sprinkle it, and if it was wet then wash it’.[6]

حَمَّادُ بْنُ عِيسَى عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَنِ الْكَلْبِ يُصِيبُ شَيْئاً مِنْ جَسَدِ الرَّجُلِ قَالَ يَغْسِلُ الْمَكَانَ الَّذِي أَصَابَهُ .

Hammad Bin Isa, from Hareyz, from Muhammad Bin Muslim who said,

‘I asked Abu Abdullah-asws about the dog hitting something from the body of the man. He-asws said: ‘He should wash the place which it hit him’.[7]

Appendix: Additional Ahadith on Dog:

باب الْكَلْبِ يُصِيبُ الثَّوْبَ وَ الْجَسَدَ وَ غَيْرَهُ مِمَّا يُكْرَهُ أَنْ يُمَسَّ شَيْ‏ءٌ مِنْهُ

The dog hits the clothes, and the body, and something else from what is disliked that it touches anything from it

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ عَمَّنْ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِذَا مَسَّ ثَوْبَكَ الْكَلْبُ فَإِنْ كَانَ يَابِساً فَانْضَحْهُ وَ إِنْ كَانَ رَطْباً فَاغْسِلْهُ .

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Hammad Bin Isa, from Hareyz, from Muhammad, from the one who informed him,

حَمَّادُ بْنُ عِيسَى عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَنِ الْكَلْبِ يُصِيبُ شَيْئاً مِنْ جَسَدِ الرَّجُلِ قَالَ يَغْسِلُ الْمَكَانَ الَّذِي أَصَابَهُ .

Hammad Bin Isa, from Hareyz, from Muhammad Bin Muslim who said,

‘I asked Abu Abdullah-asws about the dog hitting something from the body of the man. He-asws said: ‘He should wash the place which it hit him’.[9]

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنِ الْعَمْرَكِيِّ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يُصِيبُ ثَوْبَهُ خِنْزِيرٌ فَلَمْ يَغْسِلْهُ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ وَ هُوَ فِي صَلَاتِهِ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ قَالَ إِنْ كَانَ دَخَلَ فِي صَلَاتِهِ فَلْيَمْضِ وَ إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ دَخَلَ فِي صَلَاتِهِ فَلْيَنْضَحْ مَا أَصَابَ مِنْ ثَوْبِهِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ فِيهِ أَثَرٌ فَيَغْسِلُهُ .

Muhammad Bin yahya, from Al Amraky Bin Ali,

(It has been narrated) from Ali son of Ja’far-asws, from Musa Bin Ja’far-asws, said, ‘I asked him-asws about the man whose clothes were hit by a pig, but he did not wash it, and he remembered that while he was in his Salaat. How should he deal with it?’ He-asws said: ‘If he had already entered into his Salaat, so let him continue; and if he had not yet entered into his Salaat, so let him sprinkle upon his clothes whatever had been it (touched upon), except if there happen to be traces therein, so he should wash it’.[10]

باب الْكِلَابِ

The Dogs

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ يُكْرَهُ أَنْ يَكُونَ فِي دَارِ الرَّجُلِ الْمُسْلِمِ الْكَلْبُ .

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Hammad, from Al Halby,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws having said: ‘It is abhorrent that there would happen to be the dog in the house of the man’.[11]

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنِ ابْنِ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ يَتَّخِذُ كَلْباً إِلَّا نَقَصَ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ مِنْ عَمَلِ صَاحِبِهِ قِيرَاطٌ .

A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ibn Fazzal, from Ibn Bukeyr, from Zurara,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws having said: ‘There is no one who would take a dog except that one carat (unit of measurement) would be reduced from his deeds every day’.[12]

عَنْهُ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْكَلْبِ نُمْسِكُهُ فِي الدَّارِ قَالَ لَا .

A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Khalif, from his father, from Al Nazar Bin Suweyd, from Al Qasim Bin Suleyman, from Jarrah Al Madainy,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws having said: ‘Do not keep a hunting dog in the house except if there happens to be a door between you and it’.[15]

عَنْهُ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ كَلْبِ الصَّيْدِ يُمْسَكُ فِي الدَّارِ قَالَ إِذَا كَانَ يُغْلَقُ دُونَهُ الْبَابُ فَلَا بَأْسَ .

From him, from Usman Bin Isa, from Sama’at who said,

‘I asked about a hunting dog, to be kept in the house’. He-asws said: ‘If there was door which could be locked on it, so there is no problem’.[16]

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ أَبَانٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَحَدِهِمَا ( عليهما السلام ) قَالَ الْكِلَابُ السُّودُ الْبَهِيمُ مِنَ الْجِنِّ .

A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, and Muhammad Bin yahya, from Abdullah Bin Muhammad, from Ali Bin Al Hakam, from Aban, from Zurara,

(It has been narrated) from one of the two (5th or 6th Imam-asws) having said: ‘The dogs, entirely black, are from the Jinn’.[17]

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ الثُّمَالِيِّ قَالَ كُنْتُ مَعَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فِيمَا بَيْنَ مَكَّةَ وَ الْمَدِينَةِ إِذَا الْتَفَتَ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ فَإِذَا كَلْبٌ أَسْوَدُ بَهِيمٌ فَقَالَ مَا لَكَ قَبَّحَكَ اللَّهُ مَا أَشَدَّ مُسَارَعَتَكَ وَ إِذَا هُوَ شَبِيهٌ بِالطَّائِرِ فَقُلْتُ مَا هَذَا جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ فَقَالَ هَذَا غُثَيْمٌ بَرِيدُ الْجِنِّ مَاتَ هِشَامٌ السَّاعَةَ وَ هُوَ يَطِيرُ يَنْعَاهُ فِي كُلِّ بَلْدَةٍ .

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Muhammad Bin Al Husayn, from Muhammad Bin Ismail, from Ali Bin Al Hakam, from Maalik Bin Atiyya, from Abu Hamza Al Sumaly who said,

‘I was with Abu Abdullah-asws in what is between Makkah and Al-Medina, when he-asws turned to his-asws left, so there was an entirely black dog. So he-asws said: ‘What is the matter with you? Allah-azwj Made you ugly, how fiercely you rush! And it was the resemblance of a bird’. So I said, ‘What is this? May I be sacrificed for you-asws’. So he-asws said: ‘This is Gusaym, a postman of the Jinn. Hisham died at this time, and he (turned himself into) a bird notifying it in every city’.[18]

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ شَمُّونٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ مِسْمَعٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( صلوات الله عليه ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) الْكِلَابُ مِنْ ضَعَفَةِ الْجِنِّ فَإِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُكُمُ الطَّعَامَ وَ شَيْ‏ءٌ مِنْهَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَلْيُطْعِمْهُ أَوْ لِيَطْرُدْهُ فَإِنَّ لَهَا أَنْفُسَ سَوْءٍ .

A number of our companions, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Muhammad Bin Al Hassan Bin Shamoun, from Abdullah Bin Abdul Rahman, from Misma’a,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws having said: ‘Rasool-Allah-saww said: ‘The dogs are from the weak ones of the Jinn. So when one of you is eating the meal, and there is something from it in front of him, so let him feed it or let him repel it, for it has an evil self for it’.[19]

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي هَاشِمٍ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ سُئِلَ عَنِ الْكِلَابِ فَقَالَ كُلُّ أَسْوَدَ بَهِيمٌ وَ كُلُّ أَحْمَرَ بَهِيمٌ وَ كُلُّ أَبْيَضَ بَهِيمٌ فَذَلِكَ خَلْقٌ مِنَ الْكِلَابِ مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَ مَا كَانَ أَبْلَقَ فَهُوَ مَسْخٌ مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَ الْإِنْسِ .

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Muhammad Bin Al Husayn, from Abdul Rahman Bin Abu Hashim, from Salim Bin Abu Salma,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws, said, ‘He-asws was asked about the dogs, so he-asws said: ‘Every entirely black one, and every entirely red one, and every entirely white one, so that is a creature from the dogs from the Jinn, and whatever was speckled, so it is one morphed from the Jinn and the humans’.[20]

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) رَخَّصَ لِأَهْلِ الْقَاصِيَةِ فِي كَلْبٍ يَتَّخِذُونَهُ .

Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Al Nowfaly, from Al Sakuny,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws that Rasool-Allah-saww allowed for the people of the countryside to take dogs’.[21]

عَنْهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ رَزِينٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَنِ الْكَلْبِ السَّلُوقِيِّ قَالَ إِذَا مَسِسْتَهُ فَاغْسِلْ يَدَكَ .

From him, from his father, from Ibn Mahboub, from Al A’ala Bin Razeyn, from Muhammad Bin Muslim who said,

‘I asked Abu Abdullah-asws about the greyhound dog. He-asws said: ‘When you touch it, so wash your hand’.[22]

Addendum:

141- يج، الخرائج و الجرائح رُوِيَ أَنَّ العَلَاءَ بْنَ سَيَابَةَ قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع وَ هُوَ يُصَلِّي فَجَاءَ هُدْهُدٌ فَوَقَعَ عِنْدَ رَأْسِهِ حَتَّى سَلَّمَ وَ الْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهَا فَقُلْتُ جِئْتُ لِأَسْأَلَكَ فَرَأَيْتُ مَا هُوَ أَعْجَبُ قَالَ مَا هُوَ قُلْتُ مَا صَنَعَ الْهُدْهُدُ

(The book) ‘Al Kharaij Wa Al Jaraih’ – It is reported that Al A’ala Bin Sayabah said,

‘A man came to Abu Abdullahasws and heasws was praying Salat. A hoopoe bird came and landed by hisasws head, until heasws performed Salaam and turn towards it. I said, ‘I have come to ask youasws. I saw what is stranger’. Heasws said: ‘What is it?’ I said, ‘What the hoopoe did’.

قَالَ جَاءَنِي فَشَكَا إِلَيَّ حَيَّةً تَأْكُلُ فِرَاخَهُ فَدَعَوْتُ اللَّهَ عَلَيْهَا فَأَمَاتَهَا قُلْتُ يَا مَوْلَايَ إِنِّي لَا يَعِيشُ لِي وَلَدٌ وَ كُلَّمَا وَلَدَتِ امْرَأَتِي مَاتَ وَلَدُهَا

Heasws said: ‘It came to measws, complaining to measws of a snake devouring its chick, so Iasws supplicated to Allahazwj against it, and Heazwj Caused it to die’. I said, ‘O my Masterasws! I am such that no child of mine lives, and every time my wife gives birth, her child dies’.

قَالَ هَذَا لَيْسَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْجِنْسِ وَ لَكِنْ إِذَا رَجَعْتَ إِلَى مَنْزِلِكَ فَإِنَّهُ سَتَدْخُلُ كَلْبَةٌ إِلَيْكَ فَتُرِيدُ امْرَأَتُكَ أَنْ تُطْعِمَهَا فَمُرْهَا أَنْ لَا تُطْعِمَهَا فَقُلْ لِلْكَلْبَةِ إِنَّ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَقُولَ أَمِيطِي عَنَّا لَعَنَكِ اللَّهُ‏ فَإِنَّهُ يَعِيشُ وَلَدُكَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ فَعَاشَ أَوْلَادِي وَ خَلَّفْتُ غِلْمَاناً ثَلَاثَةً.

Heasws said: ‘This isn’t from that genus, but when you return to your house, a female dog would enter to you, intending that your wife feeds it. Instruct her not to feed it. Say to the dog, ‘Abu Abdullahasws has instructed me to be saying, ‘Pull away from us, may Allahazwj Curse you!’ So your child will live if Allahazwj so Desires’. My children lived, and I left three boys behind’’.[23]

وَ مِنْهُ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي هَاشِمٍ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: سُئِلَ عَنِ الْكِلَابِ فَقَالَ كُلُّ أَسْوَدَ بَهِيمٍ وَ كُلُّ أَحْمَرَ بَهِيمٍ وَ كُلُّ أَبْيَضَ بَهِيمٍ فَذَلِكَ‏ خَلْقٌ مِنَ الْكِلَابِ مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَ مَا كَانَ أَبْلَقَ فَهُوَ مَسْخٌ مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَ الْإِنْسِ‏.

And from him, from Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Muhammad Bin Al-Husayn, from Abdul Rahman Bin Abu Hashim, from Salim Bin Abu Salama,

‘From Abu Abdullah-asws, he (the narrator) said, ‘He-asws was asked about the dogs. He-asws said: ‘Every black one is a beast, and every red one is a beast, and every white one is a beast, for that (reason) it is a creature from the Jinn, and whatever was spotted, so it would be a morphed one from the Jinn and the humans’’.[24]

الْإِخْتِصَاصُ، عَنِ الْمُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا يَرْفَعُهُ إِلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ خَلَقَ الْمَلَائِكَةَ مِنْ أَنْوَارٍ وَ خَلَقَ الْجَانَّ مِنْ نَارٍ وَ خَلَقَ الْجِنَّ صِنْفاً مِنَ الْجَانِّ مِنَ الرِّيحِ وَ خَلَقَ الْجِنَّ صِنْفاً مِنَ الْجِنِّ مِنَ الْمَاءِ.

(The book) ‘Al Ikhtisaas’ – From Al Moalla Bin Muhammad, from one of our companions,

‘Raising it to Abu Abdullah-asws having said: ‘Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Created the Angels from the lights, and Created the Jaan from fire, and Created the Jinn as a species from the Jaan from the wind and Created the Jinn a species from the Jinn from the water’’.[25]
