Ibrahim bin Abi Mahmood asked from Imam Ali Reza-asws: O Son of Prophet-asws! What do you‑asws say about the hadith, which they quote, ‘Allah-azwj Descends on the earth from the skies on every night? Imam Ali Reza-asws said: May Allah-azwj Curse those who have modified the Words of Allah-azwj. By Allah-azwj, His Prophet-saww never said something like this. But Prophet-saww said: ‘Allah-azwj Sends an angel, from the skies, during the last 1/3 part of every night but on Shab-e-Jummah (the night before Friday) it’s from the start of the shab (night) and Allah-azwj Asks him (the angel-as) to announce, Allah-azwj will Bless those who are praying for their needs, Forgive those who are seeking forgiveness, will accept repentance of those are pleading guilty. O seeker of ‘Al-Khair’[1] come and find refuge, O trouble maker, be warned, to abstain from it. The angel-as keeps on repeating these (statements) until the time of Al-Fajr. After the onset of Al-Fajr, the angel-as returns back to the heavens. This hadith has been like this and was narrated to me-asws by my father-asws, who heard it from my forefather-asws, who heard it like this from Prophet-saww.[1]
Ali Bin Muhammad, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Amro Bin Usman, from Muhammad Bin Uzafir, from Umar Bin Yazeed who said,
‘Abu Abdullah-asws said to me: ‘O Umar! Whenever it is the night of Friday, the Angels of the number of particles descend from the sky, in their hands being pens of gold and papers of silver, not writing up to the night of Saturday except for the Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and the Progeny-asws of Muhammad-saww, therefore frequent in it (reciting Salawat)’.
And he-asws said: ‘O Umaro! It is from the Sunnah that you should send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and upon the People-asws of his-saww Household during every Friday, a thousand times; and in the rest of the days, one hundred times’.[2]

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Abdullah Bin Muhammad, from Ali Bin Al Hakam, from Aban,
(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws having said: ‘For the Friday there is a right and a sanctity, therefore beware of wasting or being deficient regarding anything from the worship of Allah-azwj, and getting closer to Him-azwj with the righteous deeds and neglecting the Prohibitions, all of them, for Allah-azwj Multiplies the good deeds therein, and Deletes the sins during it, and Raises the Levels during it’.

He (the narrator) said, ‘And he-asws mentioned that its day is like its night. So, if you have the capacity that you spend (all night) in offering the Salāt and the supplications, then do so, as (angels) descends from your Lord-azwj during the beginning of the night of Friday from the sky to the world, and He-azwj Multiplies the good deeds during it and Deletes the sins during it, and that Allah-azwj Kindness is Vast and Graceful’.[3]

Ahmad, from Al Husayn, from Al Nazar Bin Suweyd, from Abdullah Bin Sinan,
(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws having said: ‘It was so that Rasool-Allah-saww loved to come over (back from a journey), and when he-saww went out (on a journey) in the winter, that is would happen to be during the night of Friday. And Abu Abdullah-asws said: ‘Allah-azwj Chose something among everything, so He-azwj Chose from the days, the day of Friday’.[5]
What to Recite on Shab-e-Jummah?
Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad and Muhammad Bin Al Husayn, from Usman Bin Isa, from Sama’at, from Abu Baseer who said,
‘Abu Abdullah-asws said: ‘Recite during the night of Friday with the (Surah) Al-Jummah (Chapter 62), and [87:1] Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High (Chapter 87); and Al-Fajr (Salāt) with Surah Al-Jummah (Chapter 62), and [112:1] Say He Allah is One (Chapter 112); and during the Friday (Salāt), with the (Surah) Al-Jummah (Chapter 62) and Al-Munafiqeen (Chapter 63)’.[6]
Al Husayn Bin Muhammad, from Abdullah Bin Aamir, from Ali Bin Mahziyar, from Al Nazar Bin Suuweyd, from Abdullah Bin Sinan,
(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws having said: ‘You should be saying during the last Sajdah from the optional (Salāt) after Al-Maghrib on the night of Friday, ‘O Allah-azwj! I ask You-azwj by Your-azwj Benevolent Face and Your-azwj Magnificent Name that You-azwj should Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and the Progeny-asws of Muhammad-saww, and that You-azwj should Forgive my grave sins for me’ – seven (times)’.[7]
Ali Bin Muhammad, and Muhammad Bin Al Hassan, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Ja’far Bin Muhammad Al Ashary, from Al Qaddah,
(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws having said: ‘Rasool-Allah-saww said: ‘Frequent from the (sending of) Blessings upon me-saww during the dark night and the brilliant day, on the night of Friday and the day of Friday’. So he-asws was asked, ‘Up to how much is the ‘frequent’?’ He-asws said: ‘Up to one hundred, and whatever exceeds, so it is superior’.[8]
And by this chain, from Ali Bin Mahziyar, from Ayoub Bin Nuh, from Muhammad Bin Abu Hamza who said,
‘Abu Abdullah-asws said: ‘The one who recites (Surah) Al-Kahf (Chapter 18) during every night of Friday, it would be an expiation for what is between the Friday to the (next) Friday’.
He (the narrator) said, ‘And it is reported by others as well regarding the one who recites in on the day of Friday after Al-Zohr and Al-Asr (Salāt) – similar (Rewards) to that’.[9]
Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Abu Ayoub, from Abu Hamza Al Sumaly who said,
‘A man said to Ali-asws Bin Al-Husayn-asws, ‘You-asws neglected the Jihad and necessitated the Hajj and its softness?’ He said, ‘And he-asws was reclining, so he-asws sat up and said: ‘Woe be unto you! Has it not reached you what Rasool-Allah-saww said in the Farewell Hajj? It was when he-saww had paused at Arafat and the sun had inclined to set, Rasool-Allah-saww said: ‘O Bilal! Say to the people, so let them be silent’. So, when they were silent, Rasool-Allah-saww said: ‘Your Lord-azwj has Extended (Favours) upon you in this day, so He-azwj Forgave your good-doers, and Interceded for your good-doers regarding your evil-doers. Therefore depart (with your sins having been) Forgiven for you’.
He (the narrator) said, ‘And (narrators) other than Al-Sumaly have increased that, ‘He-saww said: ‘Except for the people with the liabilities, for Allah-azwj is Just. He-azwj Takes for the weak ones, from the strong ones’.
So when it was the night of Friday, he-saww did not cease to whisper to his-saww Lord-azwj, and he-saww asked Him-azwj for the people with the liabilities. So when he-saww paused at Jam’a, said to Bilal: ‘Say to the people, so let them be silent!’ So when they were silent, he-saww said: ‘Your Lord-azwj has Extended (Favours) upon you in this day, so He-azwj Forgave your good-doers, and Interceded for your good-doers regarding your evil-doers. Therefore depart (with your sins having been) Forgiven for you, and He-azwj has Taken the Responsibility for the people with the liabilities of the pleasure (of their creditors) from His-azwj Presence’.[10]
Masomeen-asws are Joyful during the Layla-tul-Jummah – Shab-e-Jummah:
Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Salma Bin Al Kattab, from Abdullah Bin Muhammad, from Al Husayn Bin Ahmad Al Minqary, from Yunus, or Al Mufazzal,
(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws having said: ‘There is none from a Friday night except that the Guardians-asws of Allah-azwj are joyful in it’. I said, ‘And how is that so, may I be sacrificed for you-asws?’ He-asws said:’ Whenever it is a Friday night, Rasool-Allah-saww performs Tawaf of the Throne, and the Imams-asws perform Tawaf of the Throne, and I-asws perform Tawaf along with them-asws. So I-asws do not return except with beneficial knowledge, and had it not been for that, it would deplete what is with me-asws’.[11]
Ahmad Bin Mihran, from Abdul Azeem Bin Abdullah Al Hassany, from Ali Bin Asbat, from Ibrahim Bin Abdul Hameed, from Zayd Al Shahham who said,
‘Abu Abdullah-asws said to me and we were in the road during the night of Friday: ‘Recite the Quran, for it is a night of Friday’. So I recited [44:40] Surely the Day of separation is their appointed term, of all of them [44:41] The Day on which a friend shall not avail (his) friend aught, nor shall they be helped, [44:42] Except those on whom Allah shall have Mercy. So Abu Abdullah-asws said: ‘We-asws, by Allah-azwj, are those on whom Allah-azwj has Mercy, and we, by Allah-azwj, are those whom Allah-azwj has Made to be exception, in order for us-asws to make them (Shias) needless from them (rest of the people)’.[12]
Days of the Week:
And he asked him-asws about the days and what is allowed during these from the works. Amir Al-Momineen-asws said: ‘The day of Saturday is a day of plots and deceit, and the Sunday is a day of planting and building, and the day of Monday is a day of travelling and seeking, and the day of Tuesday is a day of war and blood, and the day of Wednesday is a day of inauspiciousness the people flee during it, and the day of Thursday is day of the entering to see the person and fulfilling his needs, and the day of Friday is a day of proposing and marriage’’.[13]

(The book) ‘Al Khisaal’ – From Muhammad Bin Musa Bin Al-Mutawakkil, from Ali Bin Ibrahim, from Abdullah Bin Ahmad Al Mawsily, from Al Saqr Bin Abu Dulaf Al Karkhy who said,
‘When Al-Mutawakkil had our Master-asws Abu Al-Hassan Al-Askari-asws brought over, I came to ask about his-asws news’.
He (the narrator) said, ‘The blue-eyed one looked at me, and he was a guard for Al-Mutawakkil. He ordered that I could enter to see him. So, I entered to see him. He said, ‘So Saqr! What is your concern?’ I said, ‘New, O teacher!’ He said, ‘Be seated’. He seized me with whatever had preceded and whatever was delayed, and I said (to myself), ‘I have erred in my coming over’.
He (the narrator) said, ‘The people lightened from him. Then he said to me, ‘What is your concern? And what have you come for?’ I said, ‘For news’. He said, ‘Perhaps you are asking about the news of your Master-asws!’ I said to him, ‘And who is my Master-asws? My master is commander of the faithful (Al-Mutawakkil)!’
He said, ‘Be quiet! Your Master-asws, your Master-asws is the truth, so do not be modest with me, for I am upon your doctrine!’ I said, ‘The Praise is for Allah-azwj!’ He said, ‘Would you like to see him-asws?’ I said, ‘Yes’. He said, ‘Be seated until the postman comes out from his-asws presence’.
He (the narrator) said, ‘I sat down. When he came out, he said to a slave of his, ‘Hold a hand of Al Saqr and enter him to the chamber which the Alawite is in, the prisoner, and vacate between him and him-asws’.
He (the narrator) said, ‘He entered me into his-asws chamber and gestured towards a room. I entered and there he-asws was, seated in the middle of a straw mat and there was a pre-dug grave in front of him-asws’.
He (the narrator) said, ‘I greeted unto him-asws. He-asws responded to me, then instructed me with being seated. Then he-asws said to me: ‘O Saqr! What have you come for?’ I said, ‘My Master-asws! I have come to know your-asws news’.
He (the narrator) said, ‘Then I looked at the (pre-dug) grave, so I cried. He-asws looked at me. He-asws said: ‘O Saqr! It (crying) is not upon you. They will never come to us-asws with evil now!’ I said, ‘The Praise is for Allah-azwj!’
Then I said, ‘O my Master-asws! There is a Hadeeth being reported from the Prophet-saww, I do not understand it’s meaning’. He-asws said: ‘And what is it?’ I said, ‘His-saww words: ‘Do not be inimical to the days, for they will be inimical to you’. So what is it’s meaning?’
He-asws said: ‘Yes. We-asws are the days, for as long as the skies and the earth stand! The Saturday (Al-Sabt) is a name of Rasool-Allah-saww, and the Sunday (Al-Ahad) is a metaphor about Amir Al-Momineen-asws, and the Monday (Isnayn) are Al-Hassan-asws and Al-Husayn-asws, and the Tuesday (Al-Salasa) are Ali-asws Bin Al-Husayn-asws, and Muhammad-asws Bin Ali-asws, and Ja’far-asws Bin Muhammad-asws.
And the Wednesday (Al-Arbi’a) are Musa-asws Bin Ja’far-asws, and Ali-asws Bin Musa-asws, and Muhammad-asws Bin Ali-asws, and I-asws, and the Thursday (Al-Khamis) is my-asws son Al-Hassan-asws Bin Ali-asws, and the Friday (Al-Jummah) is the son-asws of my-asws son-ajfj, and to him-ajfj the parties of the truth shall gather, and he-ajfj is the one who will fill it (earth) will fairness and justice just as it would have been filled with injustice and tyranny.
So this is the meaning of the day, so do not be inimical to them-asws in the world, for they will be inimical to you in the Hereafter!’ Then he-asws said: ‘Bid farewell and go out, for there is no safety upon you’’.[14]
He-asws said: ‘He (Al-Mutawakkil) will not be waiting for more than two days until Allah-azwj Sheds his blood and the blood of his companion whom you had seen’.
He (the narrator) said, ‘By Allah-azwj! Not more than two days passed by until he was killed. I said to Abu Al-Hassan-asws, ‘There is a Hadeeth of Rasool-Allah-saww: ‘Do not be inimical to the days, for they would be inimical to you all!’’
He-asws said: ‘Yes, there is an interpretation for the Hadeeth of Rasool-Allah-saww. As for the Saturday, it is Rasool-Allah-saww, and the Sunday (Ahad – one) is Amir Al Momineen-asws, and the Monday (Isnayn – two) are Al-Hassan-asws and Al-Husayn-asws, and the Tuesday (Al-Salasa – three) are Ali-asws Bin Al-Husayn-asws, and Muhammad-asws Bin Ali-asws, and Ja’far-asws Bin Muhammad-asws.
And the Wednesday (Al-Arba’a – four) are Musa-asws Bin Ja’far-asws, and Ali-asws Bin Musa-asws, and Muhammad-asws Bin Ali-asws, and I-asws Ali-asws Bin Muhammad-asws. And the Thursday is my‑asws son-asws Al-Hassan-asws. And the Friday is Al-Qaim-asws from us-asws, People-asws of the Household’’.[15]
