The words ‘اللُّطْفِ وَ الْإِكْرَامِ’ are used in Ahadith and have very deep meanings, mostly it means more than – the recognition of the Bounties and Kindness bestowed upon us by Allah-azwj.
Lutf o Karam ‘اللُّطْفِ وَ الْإِكْرَامِ’
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ كَانَ عَلَى عَهْدِ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) رَجُلَانِ مُتَوَاخِيَانِ فِي اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فَمَاتَ أَحَدُهُمَا وَ أَوْصَى إِلَى الْآخَرِ فِي حِفْظِ بُنَيَّةٍ كَانَتْ لَهُ فَحَفِظَهَا الرَّجُلُ وَ أَنْزَلَهَا مَنْزِلَةَ وَلَدِهِ فِي اللُّطْفِ وَ الْإِكْرَامِ وَ التَّعَاهُدِ ثُمَّ حَضَرَهُ سَفَرٌ فَخَرَجَ وَ أَوْصَى امْرَأَتَهُ فِي الصَّبِيَّةِ فَأَطَالَ السَّفَرَ حَتَّى إِذَا أَدْرَكَتِ الصَّبِيَّةُ وَ كَانَ لَهَا جَمَالٌ وَ كَانَ الرَّجُلُ يَكْتُبُ فِي حِفْظِهَا وَ التَّعَاهُدِ لَهَا فَلَمَّا رَأَتْ ذَلِكَ امْرَأَتُهُ خَافَتْ أَنْ يَقْدَمَ فَيَرَاهَا قَدْ بَلَغَتْ مَبْلَغَ النِّسَاءِ فَيُعْجِبَهُ جَمَالُهَا فَيَتَزَوَّجَهَا
Ali Bin Ibrahim, from Muhammad Bin Isa Bin Ubeyd, from Yunus, from one of his companions, raising it, said,
‘It was in the era of Amir Al-Momineen-asws, two men had established brotherhood between themselves for the Sake of Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic. So, one of the two died and bequeathed to the other regarding the protection of a daughter he had. So the man protected her and made her status to be of the status of his children with regards to the kindness, and the honour, and the care (an extract).[1]
Lutf ‘لُطْفٌ’
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ زَعْلَانَ عَنْ أَبِي طَالِبٍ الْقُمِّيِّ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قُلْتُ أَجْبَرَ اللَّهُ الْعِبَادَ عَلَى الْمَعَاصِي قَالَ لَا قُلْتُ فَفَوَّضَ إِلَيْهِمُ الْأَمْرَ قَالَ قَالَ لَا قَالَ قُلْتُ فَمَا ذَا قَالَ لُطْفٌ مِنْ رَبِّكَ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ .
Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Al-Hassan Za’lan, from Abu Talib Al Qummy, from a man, from;
Abu Abdullah-asws, said, ‘I said, ‘Does Allah-azwj Compel the servants upon the disobedience?’ He-asws said: ‘No’. I said, ‘So, does He-azwj Delegate the matters to them?’ He-asws said: ‘No’. I said, ‘So what is (correct in) that?’ He-asws said: ‘لُطْفٌ مِنْ رَبِّكَ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ’ A Kindness from your Lord-azwj between that’.[2]
عَنْهُ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ نَصْرِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ النُّعْمَانِ عَنْ الْهَيْثَمِ بْنِ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ أَبِي دَاوُدَ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) مَا فِي أُمَّتِي عَبْدٌ أَلْطَفَ أَخَاهُ فِي اللَّهِ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ لُطْفٍ إِلَّا أَخْدَمَهُ اللَّهُ مِنْ خَدَمِ الْجَنَّةِ .
From him, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ibn Mahboub, from Nasr Bin Is’haq, from Al Haris Bin Al Numan, from Al Haysam Bin Hammad, from Abu Dawood, from Zayd Bin Arqam who said,
‘Rasool-Allah-saww said: ‘There is no servant in my-saww community who is kind to his brother regarding Allah-azwj with anything from the kindness, except that Allah-azwj would have him served by the servants of the Paradise’.[3]
اللَّهُمَّ فَإِذَا كَانَ ذَلِكَ مَنّاً مِنْكَ وَ فَضْلًا وَ جُوداً وَ لُطْفاً بِنَا وَ رَحْمَةً لَنَا وَ امْتِنَاناً عَلَيْنَا مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلِنَا وَ لَا حِيلَتِنَا وَ لَا قُوَّتِنَا اللَّهُمَّ فَحَبِّبْ إِلَيْنَا حُسْنَ تِلَاوَتِهِ وَ حِفْظَ آيَاتِهِ وَ إِيمَاناً بِمُتَشَابِهِهِ وَ عَمَلًا بِمُحْكَمِهِ وَ سَبَباً فِي تَأْوِيلِهِ وَ هُدًى فِي تَدْبِيرِهِ وَ بَصِيرَةً بِنُورِهِ
O Allah-azwj! So when it was that from us-asws, from You-azwj, and Preference, and Generosity, and Kindness with us-asws, and Mercy for us-asws, and Gratitude upon us-asws from without any might for us-asws. Nor a strategy for us-asws, nor any strength of ours-asws. O Allah-azwj! Therefore, Bestow to us the excellent recitation of it, and the memorisation of its Verses, and Eman its Allegorical (Verses), and acting upon its Decisive (Verses), and reasoning in its interpretation, and Guidance in its arrangement, and insight into its Light.
اللَّهُمَّ وَ كَمَا أَنْزَلْتَهُ شِفَاءً لِأَوْلِيَائِكَ وَ شَقَاءً عَلَى أَعْدَائِكَ وَ عَمًى عَلَى أَهْلِ مَعْصِيَتِكَ وَ نُوراً لِأَهْلِ طَاعَتِكَ اللَّهُمَّ فَاجْعَلْهُ لَنَا حِصْناً مِنْ عَذَابِكَ وَ حِرْزاً مِنْ غَضَبِكَ وَ حَاجِزاً عَنْ مَعْصِيَتِكَ وَ عِصْمَةً مِنْ سَخَطِكَ وَ دَلِيلًا عَلَى طَاعَتِكَ وَ نُوراً يَوْمَ نَلْقَاكَ نَسْتَضِيءُ بِهِ فِي خَلْقِكَ وَ نَجُوزُ بِهِ عَلَى صِرَاطِكَ وَ نَهْتَدِي بِهِ إِلَى جَنَّتِكَ
O Allah-azwj! And it is as if You-azwj have Revealed it as a Healing to Your-azwj friends, and a misery to Your-azwj enemies, and a blindness upon the people disobedient to You-azwj, and a Light for the people obedient to You-azwj. O Allah-azwj! So Make it to be a fortress for us-asws from Your‑azwj Punishment and a Protection from Your-azwj Wrath, and Barrier from disobeying You-azwj, and a Preservation from Your-azwj Harshness, and a Pointer towards obeying You-azwj, and a Light on the Day we-asws meet You-azwj we-asws can shine with among Your-azwj creatures, and we-asws can cross by it upon Your-azwj Bridge, and we-asws can be Guided with to Your-azwj Paradise.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الشِّقْوَةِ فِي حَمْلِهِ وَ الْعَمَى عَنْ عَمَلِهِ وَ الْجَوْرِ عَنْ حُكْمِهِ وَ الْعُلُوِّ عَنْ قَصْدِهِ وَ التَّقْصِيرِ دُونَ حَقِّهِ اللَّهُمَّ احْمِلْ عَنَّا ثِقْلَهُ وَ أَوْجِبْ لَنَا أَجْرَهُ وَ أَوْزِعْنَا شُكْرَهُ وَ اجْعَلْنَا نُرَاعِيهِ وَ نَحْفَظُهُ
O Allah-azwj! We-asws seek Refuge by it from the misfortune in bearing it, and the blindness from its actions, and the tyranny from its decision, and higher from its Meanings and being deficient below its rights. O Allah-azwj! Unload its weight from us-asws and Obligate its Recompense for us-asws, and Apportion is gratefulness upon us-asws, and Make us-asws to be its caretakers and its preservers.
اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا نَتَّبِعُ حَلَالَهُ وَ نَجْتَنِبُ حَرَامَهُ وَ نُقِيمُ حُدُودَهُ وَ نُؤَدِّي فَرَائِضَهُ اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْنَا حَلَاوَةً فِي تِلَاوَتِهِ وَ نَشَاطاً فِي قِيَامِهِ وَ وَجِلًا فِي تَرْتِيلِهِ وَ قُوَّةً فِي اسْتِعْمَالِهِ فِي آنَاءِ اللَّيْلِ وَ أَطْرَافِ النَّهَارِ اللَّهُمَّ وَ اشْفِنَا مِنَ النَّوْمِ بِالْيَسِيرِ وَ أَيْقِظْنَا فِي سَاعَةِ اللَّيْلِ مِنْ رُقَادِ الرَّاقِدِينَ وَ نَبِّهْنَا عِنْدَ الْأَحَايِينِ الَّتِي يُسْتَجَابُ فِيهَا الدُّعَاءُ مِنْ سِنَةِ الْوَسْنَانِينَ
O Allah-azwj! Make us-asws to follow its Permissible and keep aloof from its Prohibitions, and establish its Limits, and fulfil its Impositions. O Allah-azwj! Grace us-asws its sweetness during its recitation, and vigour in establishing it, and respect in reading it slowly, and strength in utilizing it at night and the two ends of the day. O Allah-azwj! And Comfort us-asws with the little sleep, and Wake us-asws up during a time of the night from the sleep of the sleeping ones, and Wake us-asws during the events in which the supplications are Answered from the slumber of the ones in slumber.
اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ لِقُلُوبِنَا ذَكَاءً عِنْدَ عَجَائِبِهِ الَّتِي لَا تَنْقَضِي وَ لَذَاذَةً عِنْدَ تَرْدِيدِهِ وَ عِبْرَةً عِنْدَ تَرْجِيعِهِ وَ نَفْعاً بَيِّناً عِنْدَ اسْتِفْهَامِهِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ تَخَلُّفِهِ فِي قُلُوبِنَا وَ تَوَسُّدِهِ عِنْدَ رُقَادِنَا وَ نَبْذِهِ وَرَاءَ ظُهُورِنَا وَ نَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ قَسَاوَةِ قُلُوبِنَا لِمَا بِهِ وَعَظْتَنَا
O Allah-azwj! Make intelligence to be for our-asws hearts during its (Holy Quran’s) wonderments which do not expire, and pleasures during its repeating, and lessons during its reviews, and clear benefits during its understanding. O Allah-azwj! We-asws seek Refuge with You-azwj from opposing it in our-asws hearts, and neglecting it during our-asws sleep and throwing it behind our-asws backs. And we-asws seek Refuge from the harshness of our-asws hearts when it is Advised to us-asws with it.
اللَّهُمَّ انْفَعْنَا بِمَا صَرَفْتَ فِيهِ مِنَ الْآيَاتِ وَ ذَكِّرْنَا بِمَا ضَرَبْتَ فِيهِ مِنَ الْمَثُلَاتِ وَ كَفِّرْ عَنَّا بِتَأْوِيلِهِ السَّيِّئَاتِ وَ ضَاعِفْ لَنَا بِهِ جَزَاءً فِي الْحَسَنَاتِ وَ ارْفَعْنَا بِهِ ثَوَاباً فِي الدَّرَجَاتِ وَ لَقِّنَا بِهِ الْبُشْرَى بَعْدَ الْمَمَاتِ
O Allah-azwj! Benefit us-asws with what You-azwj Served in it from the Verses and Mentioned us-asws with what You-azwj Struck in it from the examples, and Expiated the evil deeds (of our-asws Shias) from us-asws by its interpretation, and Multiplied for us-asws by it the Recompense regarding the good deeds, and Raised the Rewards by us-asws by it in the Levels, and Made us-asws face glad tidings after the deaths.
اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ لَنَا زَاداً تُقَوِّينَا بِهِ فِي الْمَوْقِفِ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ وَ طَرِيقاً وَاضِحاً نَسْلُكُ بِهِ إِلَيْكَ وَ عِلْماً نَافِعاً نَشْكُرُ بِهِ نَعْمَاءَكَ وَ تَخَشُّعاً صَادِقاً نُسَبِّحُ بِهِ أَسْمَاءَكَ فَإِنَّكَ اتَّخَذْتَ بِهِ عَلَيْنَا حُجَّةً قَطَعْتَ بِهِ عُذْرَنَا وَ اصْطَنَعْتَ بِهِ عِنْدَنَا نِعْمَةً قَصَرَ عَنْهَا شُكْرُنَا اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ لَنَا وَلِيّاً يُثَبِّتُنَا مِنَ الزَّلَلِ وَ دَلِيلًا يَهْدِينَا لِصَالِحِ الْعَمَلِ وَ عَوْناً هَادِياً يُقَوِّمُنَا مِنَ الْمَيْلِ وَ عَوْناً يُقَوِّينَا مِنَ الْمَلَلِ حَتَّى يَبْلُغَ بِنَا أَفْضَلَ الْأَمَلِ
O Allah-azwj! Make it (Holy Quran) to be an increase in our-asws strength by it during the pausing in front of You-azwj and a clear way we-asws can travel by towards You-azwj, and a beneficial knowledge we-asws can be grateful with for You-azwj Bounties, and Makes us-asws to be humble, truthful, we-asws can Glorify Your-azwj Name with, for You-azwj will be Taking it as an Argument upon us-asws, Cutting-off our-asws excuses by it, and Loaded it with us-asws such Bounties that we-asws are deficient in thanking for it. O Allah-azwj! Make it to be a friend for us-asws affirming us-asws from wavering, and a pointer guiding us-asws to the righteous deeds, and an aiding guide strengthening us-asws from other religions, and aiding us-asws from the fatigue, until it reaches with us-asws the best deeds.
اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ لَنَا شَافِعاً يَوْمَ اللِّقَاءِ وَ سِلَاحاً يَوْمَ الِارْتِقَاءِ وَ حَجِيجاً يَوْمَ الْقَضَاءِ وَ نُوراً يَوْمَ الظَّلْمَاءِ يَوْمَ لَا أَرْضَ وَ لَا سَمَاءَ يَوْمَ يُجْزَى كُلُّ سَاعٍ بِمَا سَعَى
O Allah-azwj! Make it to be a healing for us-asws on the Day of the Meeting and a weapon on the Day of Raising (of matters), and an argument on the Day of the Judgments, and a Light on the Day of the darkness there being neither an earth nor a sky, the Day every strivers would be Sufficed for what he strove for.
اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ لَنَا رَيّاً يَوْمَ الظَّمَإِ وَ فَوْزاً يَوْمَ الْجَزَاءِ مِنْ نَارٍ حَامِيَةٍ قَلِيلَةِ الْبُقْيَا عَلَى مَنْ بِهَا اصْطَلَى وَ بِحَرِّهَا تَلَظَّى اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ لَنَا بُرْهَاناً عَلَى رُءُوسِ الْمَلَإِ يَوْمَ يُجْمَعُ فِيهِ أَهْلُ الْأَرْضِ وَ أَهْلُ السَّمَاءِ اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْنَا مَنَازِلَ الشُّهَدَاءِ وَ عَيْشَ السُّعَدَاءِ وَ مُرَافَقَةَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ إِنَّكَ سَمِيعُ الدُّعَاءِ .
O Allah-azwj! Make it (Holy Quran) to be a quenching for us-asws on the Day of thirst, and a success on the Day of the Recompense from the Blazing Fire, giving little survival upon the ones who are with it, uprooting by its oceans of fire. O Allah-azwj! Make it to be a Proof for us-asws against the chiefs of the nations on the Day in which would be gathered the inhabitants of the earth and the inhabitants of the sky. O Allah-azwj! Grace us-asws the status of the martyrs and a life of happiness, and the friendship of the Prophets-as. You-azwj are the Hearer of the supplications’.[4]
اللَّهُمَّ فَاصْرِفْ عَنِّي مَقَادِيرَ كُلِّ بَلَاءٍ وَ مَقْضِيَّ كُلِّ لَاوَاءٍ وَ ابْسُطْ عَلَيَّ كَنَفاً مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ وَ لُطْفاً مِنْ عَفْوِكَ وَ سَعَةً مِنْ رِزْقِكَ وَ تَمَاماً مِنْ نِعْمَتِكَ وَ جِمَاعاً مِنْ مُعَافَاتِكَ وَ أَوْقِعْ عَلَيَّ فِيهِ جَمِيعَ قَضَائِكَ عَلَى مُوَافَقَةِ جَمِيعِ هَوَايَ فِي حَقِيقَةِ أَحْسَنِ أَمَلِي وَ ادْفَعْ مَا أَحْذَرُ فِيهِ وَ مَا لَا أَحْذَرُ عَلَى نَفْسِي وَ دِينِي وَ مَالِي مِمَّا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي وَ اجْعَلْ ذَلِكَ خَيْراً لآِخِرَتِي وَ دُنْيَايَ مَعَ مَا أَسْأَلُكَ
O Allah-azwj! So (please) Turn away from me the Ordainment of every affliction and every adversity Destined, and Extend upon me a canopy from Your-azwj Mercy, and kindness from Your-azwj Forgiveness, and Expansion from Your-azwj Grace, and completion from Your-azwj Bounties, and Comprehensive good health from You-azwj. And, there should befall upon me therein the entirety of Your-azwj Ordainments upon the entirety of my desires in reality, the best of my actions, and Repel what I am cautious of therein and what I am not cautious of upon myself, and my Religion, and my wealth, from what You-azwj are more Knowing with than I am, and Make that to be good for my Hereafter and my world, along with what I am asking You-azwj for’.
يَا رَبِّ أَنْ تَحْفَظَنِي فِيمَنْ خَلَّفْتُ وَرَائِي مِنْ وُلْدِي وَ أَهْلِي وَ مَالِي وَ مَعِيشَتِي وَ حُزَانَتِي وَ قَرَابَتِي وَ إِخْوَانِي بِأَحْسَنِ مَا خَلَفْتَ بِهِ غَائِباً مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي تَحْصِينِ كُلِّ عَوْرَةٍ وَ حِفْظٍ مِنْ كُلِّ مَضِيعَةٍ وَ تَمَامِ كُلِّ نِعْمَةٍ وَ كِفَايَةِ كُلِّ مَكْرُوهٍ وَ سَتْرِ كُلِّ سَيِّئَةٍ وَ صَرْفِ كُلِّ مَحْذُورٍ وَ كَمَالِ كُلِّ مَا يَجْمَعُ لِيَ الرِّضَا وَ السُّرُورَ فِي جَمِيعِ أُمُورِي وَ افْعَلْ ذَلِكَ بِي بِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْهِ وَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَ رَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ .
O Lord-azwj! Protect me with regards to what I have left behind me, from my children, and my family, and my wealth, and my livelihood, and my savings, and my relatives, and my brethren with the best of what You-azwj Protect with for the one who is absent, being from the Believers, with regards to the fortifying every exposure, and Protecting from every loss, and completion of every Bounty, and Sufficing for every abhorrence, and Concealing of every evil, and Exchanging every hazard, and Completing what Gathers the pleasure and the joy for me in the entirety of my affairs; and Do that with me by the right of Muhammad-saww and the Progeny-asws of Muhammad, and Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and the Progeny-asws of Muhammad-saww, and the Greetings be upon him-saww and upon them-asws, and Mercy of Allah-azwj, and His-azwj Blessings’.[5]
وَ بِإِسْنَادِهِ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ سُئِلَ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَنْكِحُ جَارِيَةَ امْرَأَتِهِ ثُمَّ يَسْأَلُهَا أَنْ تَجْعَلَهُ فِي حِلٍّ فَتَأْبَى فَيَقُولُ إِذاً لَأُطَلِّقَنَّكِ وَ يَجْتَنِبُ فِرَاشَهَا فَتَجْعَلُهُ فِي حِلٍّ فَقَالَ هَذَا غَاصِبٌ فَأَيْنَ هُوَ مِنَ اللُّطْفِ .
And by his chain, from Salih Bin Uqba, from Suleyman Bin Salih,
(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws, said, ‘He-asws was asked about the man who marries a slave girl of his wife. Then he asks her if she (the wife) would make him to be in permissibility (with the slave girl), but she refuses. So he is saying, ‘Then I shall divorce you’, and he keeps aside from her bed. So she makes permissibility for him. So he-asws said: ‘This is a usurper. So where is he from the kindness?’[6]
Al- AKram ‘الْإِكْرَامِ’ The Most Kind/Merciful
فَإِنْ هُوَ قَالَ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَ الشَّهَادَةِ الْعَزِيزَ الْحَكِيمَ الْغَفُورَ الرَّحِيمَ ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَ الْإِكْرَامِ وَ أَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ لَمْ يُكْتَبْ عَلَيْهِ شَيْءٌ وَ إِنْ مَضَتْ سَبْعُ سَاعَاتٍ وَ لَمْ يُتْبِعْهَا بِحَسَنَةٍ وَ اسْتِغْفَارٍ قَالَ صَاحِبُ الْحَسَنَاتِ لِصَاحِبِ السَّيِّئَاتِ اكْتُبْ عَلَى الشَّقِيِّ الْمَحْرُومِ .
So if he were to say, ‘I seek Forgiveness of Allah-azwj Who, there is no god except for him-azwj, the Knower of the unseen and the seen, the Mighty, the Wise, the Forgiving, the Merciful, One with Majesty and the Benevolence, and I repent to Him-azwj’, nothing would be Written against him; and if seven hours have passed and he has not followed it up with a good deed and the seeking of Forgiveness, the companion of the good deeds says to the companion of the evil deeds: ‘Write against the wretch, the deprived one’.[7]
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ بَدِيعُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَ الْأَرْضِ ذُو الْجَلَالِ وَ الْإِكْرَامِ وَ أَسْأَلُهُ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ أَنْ يَتُوبَ عَلَيَّ إِلَّا غَفَرَهَا اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ
‘I seek Forgiveness of Allah-azwj Who, there is no god except for Him-azwj, the Living, the Eternal, Initiator of the skies and the earth, One with the Majesty and the Benevolence, and I ask Him‑azwj that He-azwj Sends Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and the Progeny-asws of Muhammad-saww, and that He-azwj should Turned to me (with Mercy)’,
لَهُ وَ لَا خَيْرَ فِيمَنْ يُقَارِفُ فِي يَوْمٍ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ أَرْبَعِينَ كَبِيرَةً
Except that Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic would Forgive these for him; and there is no good in the one who commits during a day more than forty major sins’.[8]
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَبْدِ الصَّمَدِ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَنْ قَالَ فِي دُبُرِ صَلَاةِ الْفَرِيضَةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَثْنِيَ رِجْلَيْهِ أَسْتَغْفِرُ.
Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Isa,, from Abdul Samad, from Al Husayn Bin Hammad,
(It has been narrated) from Abu Ja’far-asws having said: ‘The one who says at the end of the Obligatory Salāt, before he bends his legs,
اللَّهَ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ ذُو الْجَلَالِ وَ الْإِكْرَامِ وَ أَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ
‘Allah-azwj is Who, there is no God except Him-azwj. He-azwj is the Living, the Everlasting, with Majesty and the Benevolence, and I repent to Him-azwj’, three times.
غَفَرَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لَهُ ذُنُوبَهُ وَ لَوْ كَانَتْ مِثْلَ زَبَدِ الْبَحْرِ
Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic would Forgive his sins for him, and even if they were the likes of the foam of the sea (numerous)’.[9]
رَبِّ مَا أَحْسَنَ مَا ابْتَلَيْتَنِي وَ أَعْظَمَ مَا أَعْطَيْتَنِي وَ أَطْوَلَ مَا عَافَيْتَنِي وَ أَكْثَرَ مَا سَتَرْتَ عَلَيَّ فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ يَا إِلَهِي كَثِيراً طَيِّباً مُبَارَكاً عَلَيْهِ مِلْءَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَ مِلْءَ الْأَرْضِ وَ مِلْءَ مَا شَاءَ رَبِّي كَمَا يُحِبُّ وَ يَرْضَى وَ كَمَا يَنْبَغِي لِوَجْهِ رَبِّي ذِي الْجَلَالِ وَ الْإِكْرَامِ .
Lord-azwj! How excellent is what You-azwj Tried me with, and how great was what You-azwj Gave me and Prolonged my good health, and how frequently You-azwj Veiled upon me. So, for You-azwj is the Praise, O my God, abundant, good, Blessed upon the communities of the skies and the communities of the earth, and whatever my Lord-azwj so Desires, just as He-azwj Loves, and is Pleased with, and just as it is befitting for the Face of my Lord-azwj, the One with Majesty and the Benevolence’’.[10]
عَنْهُ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ مَنْ قَالَ بَعْدَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ وَ هُوَ آخِذٌ بِلِحْيَتِهِ بِيَدِهِ الْيُمْنَى يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَ الْإِكْرَامِ ارْحَمْنِي مِنَ النَّارِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ وَ يَدُهُ الْيُسْرَى مَرْفُوعَةٌ وَ بَطْنُهَا إِلَى مَا يَلِي السَّمَاءَ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ أَجِرْنِي مِنَ الْعَذَابِ الْأَلِيمِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ
From him, from one of his companions, raising it, said,
‘The one who says after every Salāt while grabbing his beard by his right hand, ‘O One-azwj with the Majesty and the Benevolence! Be Merciful to me from the Fire’, three times, and his left hand is raised, and its palm is facing towards the sky. Then he should be saying, ‘Rescue me from the painful Punishment’, three times.
ثُمَّ يُؤَخِّرُ يَدَهُ عَنْ لِحْيَتِهِ ثُمَّ يَرْفَعُ يَدَهُ وَ يَجْعَلُ بَطْنَهَا مِمَّا يَلِي السَّمَاءَ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ يَا عَزِيزُ يَا كَرِيمُ يَا رَحْمَانُ يَا رَحِيمُ وَ يَقْلِبُ يَدَيْهِ وَ يَجْعَلُ بُطُونَهُمَا مِمَّا يَلِي السَّمَاءَ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ أَجِرْنِي مِنَ الْعَذَابِ الْأَلِيمِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ وَ الرُّوحِ غُفِرَ لَهُ وَ رُضِيَ عَنْهُ وَ وُصِلَ بِالِاسْتِغْفَارِ لَهُ حَتَّى يَمُوتَ جَمِيعُ الْخَلَائِقِ إِلَّا الثَّقَلَيْنِ الْجِنَّ وَ الْإِنْسَ
Then he should drop his hand from his beard, then raise his hand and make its palm to be facing towards the sky, then he should be saying, ‘O Mighty! O benevolent! O Beneficent! O Merciful’, and he should flip over his hand and makes both their palms to face towards the sky, then he should be saying, ‘Rescue me from the painful Punishment’, three times. ‘Send Salawāt upon Muhammad-saww and the Progeny-asws of Muhammad-saww, and the Angels, and the Spirit’, (his sins) would be Forgiven for him, and he would be Pleased from, and be linked with the Forgiveness for him until the entirety of the creatures die off, except for the two heavy ones, the Jinn and the human beings’.
وَ قَالَ إِذَا فَرَغْتَ مِنْ تَشَهُّدِكَ فَارْفَعْ يَدَيْكَ وَ قُلِ
And he-asws said: ‘Whenever you are free from your Tashahhud (bearing of the testimonies), so raise your hand and say,
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي مَغْفِرَةً عَزْماً جَزْماً لَا تُغَادِرُ ذَنْباً وَ لَا أَرْتَكِبُ بَعْدَهَا مُحَرَّماً أَبَداً وَ عَافِنِي مُعَافَاةً لَا بَلْوَى بَعْدَهَا أَبَداً وَ اهْدِنِي هُدًى لَا أَضِلُّ بَعْدَهُ أَبَداً وَ انْفَعْنِي يَا رَبِّ بِمَا عَلَّمْتَنِي وَ اجْعَلْهُ لِي وَ لَا تَجْعَلْهُ عَلَيَّ وَ ارْزُقْنِي كَفَافاً وَ رَضِّنِي بِهِ
‘O Allah-azwj! Forgive (my sins) for me with a Determined and Decisive Forgiveness, not leaving any sin nor will I be indulging in a Prohibition after it, ever! And Grant me such well-being that I would not suffer an affliction after it, ever! And Guide me with such a Guidance that I will not go astray after it, ever! And benefit me, O Lord-azwj with what You-azwj Teach me and Make it to be for me, and do not Make it to be against me, and Grace me sufficiently and Make me to be pleased with it.
يَا رَبَّاهْ وَ تُبْ عَلَيَّ يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا رَحْمَانُ يَا رَحْمَانُ يَا رَحْمَانُ يَا رَحِيمُ يَا رَحِيمُ يَا رَحِيمُ ارْحَمْنِي مِنَ النَّارِ ذَاتِ السَّعِيرِ وَ ابْسُطْ عَلَيَّ مِنْ سَعَةِ رِزْقِكَ وَ اهْدِنِي لِمَا اخْتُلِفَ فِيهِ مِنَ الْحَقِّ بِإِذْنِكَ وَ اعْصِمْنِي مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ وَ أَبْلِغْ مُحَمَّداً صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ عَنِّي تَحِيَّةً كَثِيرَةً وَ سَلَاماً وَ اهْدِنِي بِهُدَاكَ وَ أَغْنِنِي بِغِنَاكَ وَ اجْعَلْنِي مِنْ أَوْلِيَائِكَ الْمُخْلَصِينَ وَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ آمِينَ
O Lord-azwj! And Turn to me (with Mercy). O Allah-azwj! O Allah-azwj! O Allah-azwj!. O Beneficent! O Beneficent! O Beneficent! O Merciful! O Merciful! O Merciful! Have Mercy on me from the Fire with the blaze, and Extend upon me from the Expansion of Your-azwj Grace, and Guide me do what I am differing in from the Truth by Your-azwj Permission, and Rescue me from the Pelted Satan-la, and Deliver a lot of salutations upon Muhammad-saww from me, and greeting, and Guide me by Your-azwj Guidance, and Enrich me with Your-azwj Riches, and Make me to be from Your-azwj sincere friends. And may Allah-azwj Send Salawāt upon Muhammad-azwj and the Progeny-asws of Muhammad-saww. Ameen!’
قَالَ مَنْ قَالَ هَذَا بَعْدَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ رَدَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ رُوحَهُ فِي قَبْرِهِ وَ كَانَ حَيّاً مَرْزُوقاً نَاعِماً مَسْرُوراً إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ .
He-asws said: ‘The one says this after every Salāt, Allah-azwj would Return his soul upon him in his grave, and he would be alive, Sustained, blissful, joyful up to the Day of Judgment’.[11]
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِأَنَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ الْمَنَّانُ بَدِيعُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَ الْأَرْضِ ذُو الْجَلَالِ وَ الْإِكْرَامِ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ لِي مِمَّا أَنَا فِيهِ فَرَجاً وَ مَخْرَجاً
‘O Allah-azwj! I-as ask You-azwj with, for You-azwj is the Praise. There is no god except You-azwj, the Benefactor, Initiator of the skies and the earth, One with the Majesty and the Benevolence, that You-azwj Send Salawāt upon Muhammad-saww and the Progeny-asws of Muhammad-saww, and that You-azwj Make a relief to be for me-as from what I-as am (trapped) in, and an exit’.
قَالَ ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنْ قِصَّتِهِ مَا ذَكَرَ اللَّهُ فِي كِتَابِهِ .
He-asws said: ‘Then it was from his-as story what Allah-azwj Mentioned in His-azwj Book’.[12]
فَكُنْ يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَ الْإِكْرَامِ عِنْدَ أَحْسَنِ ظَنِّي بِكَ وَ رَجَائِي لَكَ وَ ارْحَمْ تَضَرُّعِي وَ اسْتِكَانَتِي وَ ضَعْفَ رُكْنِي وَ امْنُنْ بِذَلِكَ عَلَيَّ وَ عَلَى كُلِّ دَاعٍ دَعَاكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ وَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِهِ .
Therefore be, O the One with the Majesty and the Benevolence, during the goodness of my thoughts with You-azwj, my hope for you, and be Merciful on my desperation and my dependence, and the weakness of my (body) parts, and Favour with that upon me and upon every illness, Your-azwj Cure, O Most Merciful of the merciful ones, and Send Salawāt upon Muhammad-saww and his-saww Progeny-asws’’.[13] (An extract)
اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ السَّلَامُ وَ مِنْكَ السَّلَامُ أَسْأَلُكَ يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَ الْإِكْرَامِ أَنْ تَفُكَّ رَقَبَتِي مِنَ النَّارِ .
O Allah-azwj! You-azwj are the (source of) the Peace and from You-azwj is the Peace. I ask You-azwj, O One with the Majesty and the Benevolence, that You-azwj Liberate my neck from the Fire’.[14]
وَ تَقُولُ فِي اللَّيْلَةِ الرَّابِعَةِ يَا فَالِقَ الْإِصْبَاحِ وَ جَاعِلَ اللَّيْلِ سَكَناً وَ الشَّمْسِ وَ الْقَمَرِ حُسْبَاناً يَا عَزِيزُ يَا عَلِيمُ يَا ذَا الْمَنِّ وَ الطَّوْلِ وَ الْقُوَّةِ وَ الْحَوْلِ وَ الْفَضْلِ وَ الْإِنْعَامِ وَ الْمُلْكِ وَ الْإِكْرَامِ يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَ الْإِكْرَامِ يَا اللَّهُ يَا رَحْمَانُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا فَرْدُ يَا وَتْرُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا ظَاهِرُ يَا بَاطِنُ يَا حَيُّ يَا لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ لَكَ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَى وَ الْأَمْثَالُ الْعُلْيَا وَ الْكِبْرِيَاءُ
And you should be saying during the fourth night, ‘O Splitter of the mornings, and Maker of the night as a tranquillity, and the sun and the moon for calculations! O Mighty! O Knowledgeable! O the One with Favours, and the Extensiveness, and the Strength, and the Awe, and the Grace, and the Bounties, and the Kingdom, and the Benevolence! O the One with Majesty, and the Benevolence! O Allah-azwj! O Beneficent! O Allah-azwj! O Solitary! O One! O Allah-azwj! O Manifest! O Hidden! O living! O, there is no god except for You-azwj! For You-azwj are the Beautiful Names, and the Lofty examples, and the Greatness!
أَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ عَلَى أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ وَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ اسْمِي فِي هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ فِي السُّعَدَاءِ وَ رُوحِي مَعَ الشُّهَدَاءِ وَ إِحْسَانِي فِي عِلِّيِّينَ وَ إِسَاءَتِي مَغْفُورَةً وَ أَنْ تَهَبَ لِي يَقِيناً تُبَاشِرُ بِهِ قَلْبِي وَ إِيمَاناً يَذْهَبُ بِالشَّكِّ عَنِّي وَ رِضًا بِمَا قَسَمْتَ لِي وَ آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَ قِنَا عَذَابَ الْحَرِيقِ وَ ارْزُقْنِي فِيهَا ذِكْرَكَ وَ شُكْرَكَ وَ الرَّغْبَةَ إِلَيْكَ وَ الْإِنَابَةَ وَ التَّوْبَةَ وَ التَّوْفِيقَ لِمَا وَفَّقْتَ لَهُ مُحَمَّداً وَ آلَ مُحَمَّدٍ ( عليهم السلام )
I ask You-azwj to Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and upon the People-asws of his-saww Household, and Make my name to be, during this night, among the fortunate ones, and my soul to be among the martyrs, and my good deeds to be in with the Illiyeen, and my sins to be Forgiven, and to Endow conviction and faith to be upon me to gladden my heart by it, and Remove the doubts from me, and my being pleased with whatever You-azwj have Apportioned for me; and Grant us goodness in the world and goodness in the Hereafter, and Save us from the burning Punishment, and Grace me therein with Your-azwj Remembrance, and Gratefulness to You-azwj, and the hope to You-azwj, and the representations, and the repentance, and the inclination to whatever Muhammad-saww and the Progeny-asws of Muhammad-saww excelled in.
وَ تَقُولُ فِي اللَّيْلَةِ الْخَامِسَةِ يَا جَاعِلَ اللَّيْلِ لِبَاساً وَ النَّهَارِ مَعَاشاً وَ الْأَرْضِ مِهَاداً وَ الْجِبَالِ أَوْتَاداً يَا اللَّهُ يَا قَاهِرُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا جَبَّارُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا سَمِيعُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا قَرِيبُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا مُجِيبُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ لَكَ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَى وَ الْأَمْثَالُ الْعُلْيَا وَ الْكِبْرِيَاءُ وَ الْآلَاءُ
And you should be saying during the fifth night, ‘O the One Who Made the night as a covering, and the day for livelihood, and the earth as an expanse, and the mountains as pegs! O Allah-azwj! O Originator! O Allah-azwj! O Compeller! O Allah-azwj! O Listener! O Allah-azwj! O Near one! O Allah-azwj! O Answerer! O Allah-azwj! O Allah-azwj! O Allah-azwj! For You-azwj are the Beautiful Names, and the Lofty examples, and the Greatness, and the Loftiness.
أَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ عَلَى أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ وَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ اسْمِي فِي هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ فِي السُّعَدَاءِ وَ رُوحِي مَعَ الشُّهَدَاءِ وَ إِحْسَانِي فِي عِلِّيِّينَ وَ إِسَاءَتِي مَغْفُورَةً وَ أَنْ تَهَبَ لِي يَقِيناً تُبَاشِرُ بِهِ قَلْبِي وَ إِيمَاناً يُذْهِبُ الشَّكَّ عَنِّي وَ رِضًا بِمَا قَسَمْتَ لِي وَ آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَ قِنَا عَذَابَ الْحَرِيقِ وَ ارْزُقْنِي فِيهَا ذِكْرَكَ وَ شُكْرَكَ وَ الرَّغْبَةَ إِلَيْكَ وَ الْإِنَابَةَ وَ التَّوْبَةَ وَ التَّوْفِيقَ لِمَا وَفَّقْتَ لَهُ مُحَمَّداً وَ آلَ مُحَمَّدٍ ( عليهم السلام )

وَ تَقُولُ فِي اللَّيْلَةِ السَّادِسَةِ يَا جَاعِلَ اللَّيْلِ وَ النَّهَارِ آيَتَيْنِ يَا مَنْ مَحَا آيَةَ اللَّيْلِ وَ جَعَلَ آيَةَ النَّهَارِ مُبْصِرَةً لِتَبْتَغُوا فَضْلًا مِنْهُ وَ رِضْوَاناً يَا مُفَصِّلَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ تَفْصِيلًا يَا مَاجِدُ يَا وَهَّابُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا جَوَادُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ لَكَ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَى وَ الْأَمْثَالُ الْعُلْيَا وَ الْكِبْرِيَاءُ وَ الْآلَاءُ
And you should be saying during the sixth night, ‘O Allah-azwj! O the One Who Made the night and the day as two signs! O the One Who Deletes the sign of the night and Makes a sign of the day to be visioned, in order for them (people) to seek Grace from it, and (Divine) Pleasure! O Decider of everything with a detailed Decision! O Glorious! O Endower! O Allah-azwj! O benevolent! O Allah-azwj! O Allah-azwj! O Allah-azwj! For You-azwj are the Beautiful Names, and the Lofty examples, and the Greatness, and the Loftiness.
أَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ عَلَى أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ وَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ اسْمِي فِي هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ فِي السُّعَدَاءِ وَ رُوحِي مَعَ الشُّهَدَاءِ وَ إِحْسَانِي فِي عِلِّيِّينَ وَ إِسَاءَتِي مَغْفُورَةً وَ أَنْ تَهَبَ لِي يَقِيناً تُبَاشِرُ بِهِ قَلْبِي وَ إِيمَاناً يُذْهِبُ الشَّكَّ عَنِّي وَ تُرْضِيَنِي بِمَا قَسَمْتَ لِي وَ آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَ قِنَا عَذَابَ الْحَرِيقِ وَ ارْزُقْنِي فِيهَا ذِكْرَكَ وَ شُكْرَكَ وَ الرَّغْبَةَ إِلَيْكَ وَ الْإِنَابَةَ وَ التَّوْبَةَ وَ التَّوْفِيقَ لِمَا وَفَّقْتَ لَهُ مُحَمَّداً وَ آلَ مُحَمَّدٍ ( عليهم السلام )

وَ تَقُولُ فِي اللَّيْلَةِ السَّابِعَةِ يَا مَادَّ الظِّلِّ وَ لَوْ شِئْتَ لَجَعَلْتَهُ سَاكِناً وَ جَعَلْتَ الشَّمْسَ عَلَيْهِ دَلِيلًا ثُمَّ قَبَضْتَهُ إِلَيْكَ قَبْضاً يَسِيراً يَا ذَا الْجُودِ وَ الطَّوْلِ وَ الْكِبْرِيَاءِ وَ الْآلَاءِ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ وَ الشَّهَادَةِ الرَّحْمَنُ الرَّحِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ يَا قُدُّوسُ يَا سَلَامُ يَا مُؤْمِنُ يَا مُهَيْمِنُ يَا عَزِيزُ يَا جَبَّارُ يَا مُتَكَبِّرُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا خَالِقُ يَا بَارِئُ يَا مُصَوِّرُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ لَكَ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَى وَ الْأَمْثَالُ الْعُلْيَا وَ الْكِبْرِيَاءُ وَ الْآلَاءُ
And you should be saying during the seventh night, ‘O the One Who Extends the shade, and day You-azwj so Desired to, You-azwj would have Made it to be stationary, and Made the sun to be an evidence over it. Then You-azwj Capture it to Yourself-saww with an easy capture. O the One with the benevolence, and the Extensiveness, and the Greatness, and the Loftiness. There is no god except for You-azwj, the Knower of the unseen and the seen, the Merciful. There is no god except for You-azwj, O Holy, O Grantor of safety, O Grantor of security, O Controller, O Honourable, O Compeller, O Supreme! O Allah-azwj! O Creator! O Maker! O Fashioner! O Allah-azwj! O Allah-azwj! O Allah-azwj! For You-azwj are the Beautiful Names, and the Lofty examples, and the Greatness, and the Loftiness.
أَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ عَلَى أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ وَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ اسْمِي فِي هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ فِي السُّعَدَاءِ وَ رُوحِي مَعَ الشُّهَدَاءِ وَ إِحْسَانِي فِي عِلِّيِّينَ وَ إِسَاءَتِي مَغْفُورَةً وَ أَنْ تَهَبَ لِي يَقِيناً تُبَاشِرُ بِهِ قَلْبِي وَ إِيمَاناً يُذْهِبُ الشَّكَّ عَنِّي وَ تُرْضِيَنِي بِمَا قَسَمْتَ لِي وَ آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَ قِنَا عَذَابَ الْحَرِيقِ وَ ارْزُقْنِي فِيهَا ذِكْرَكَ وَ شُكْرَكَ وَ الرَّغْبَةَ إِلَيْكَ وَ الْإِنَابَةَ وَ التَّوْبَةَ وَ التَّوْفِيقَ لِمَا وَفَّقْتَ لَهُ مُحَمَّداً وَ آلَ مُحَمَّدٍ ( عليهم السلام )
I ask You-azwj to Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and upon the People-asws of his-saww Household, and Make my name to be, during this night, among the fortunate ones, and my soul to be among the martyrs, and my good deeds to be in the Illiyeen, and my sins to be Forgiven, and to Endow conviction and faith to be upon me to gladden my heart by it, and Remove the doubts from me, and my being pleased with whatever You-azwj have Apportioned for me; and Grant us goodness in the world and goodness in the Hereafter, and Save us from the burning Punishment, and Grace me therein with Your-azwj Remembrance, and Gratefulness to You-azwj, and the hope to You-azwj, and the representations, and the repentance, and the inclination to whatever Muhammad-saww and the Progeny-asws of Muhammad-saww excelled in’.
وَ تَقُولُ فِي اللَّيْلَةِ الثَّامِنَةِ يَا خَازِنَ اللَّيْلِ فِي الْهَوَاءِ وَ خَازِنَ النُّورِ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَ مَانِعَ السَّمَاءِ أَنْ تَقَعَ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ وَ حَابِسَهُمَا أَنْ تَزُولَا يَا عَلِيمُ يَا غَفُورُ يَا دَائِمُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا وَارِثُ يَا بَاعِثَ مَنْ فِي الْقُبُورِ يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ لَكَ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَى وَ الْأَمْثَالُ الْعُلْيَا وَ الْكِبْرِيَاءُ وَ الْآلَاءُ
And you should be saying during the eighth night, ‘O Treasurer of the night in the atmosphere, and the Treasurer of the light in the sky, and the Preventer of the sky from falling upon the earth except by His-azwj Permission, and the Withholder of them both from declining. O Knowledgeable! O Forgiver! O Eternal! O Allah-azwj! O Inheritor! O Resurrector of the ones who are in the graves! O Allah-azwj! O Allah-azwj! O Allah-azwj! For You-azwj are the Beautiful Names, and the Lofty examples, and the Greatness, and the Loftiness.

وَ تَقُولُ فِي اللَّيْلَةِ التَّاسِعَةِ يَا مُكَوِّرَ اللَّيْلِ عَلَى النَّهَارِ وَ مُكَوِّرَ النَّهَارِ عَلَى اللَّيْلِ يَا عَلِيمُ يَا حَكِيمُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا رَبَّ الْأَرْبَابِ وَ سَيِّدَ السَّادَاتِ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ يَا أَقْرَبَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ حَبْلِ الْوَرِيدِ يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ لَكَ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَى وَ الْأَمْثَالُ الْعُلْيَا وَ الْكِبْرِيَاءُ وَ الْآلَاءُ
And you should be saying during the ninth night, ‘O Coverer of the night upon the day, and the Coverer of the day upon the night! O Knowledgeable! O Wise! O Allah-azwj! O Lord of the lords, and Chief of the chiefs! There is no god except for You-azwj! O the One Who is nearer to me than the jugular vein! O Allah-azwj! O Allah-azwj! O Allah-azwj! For You-azwj are the Beautiful Names, and the Lofty examples, and the Greatness, and the Loftiness.

وَ تَقُولُ فِي اللَّيْلَةِ الْعَاشِرَةِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ كَمَا يَنْبَغِي لِكَرَمِ وَجْهِهِ وَ عِزِّ جَلَالِهِ وَ كَمَا هُوَ أَهْلُهُ يَا قُدُّوسُ يَا نُورَ الْقُدْسِ يَا سُبُّوحُ يَا مُنْتَهَى التَّسْبِيحِ يَا رَحْمَانُ يَا فَاعِلَ الرَّحْمَةِ يَا عَلِيمُ يَا كَبِيرُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا لَطِيفُ يَا جَلِيلُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا سَمِيعُ يَا بَصِيرُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ لَكَ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَى وَ الْأَمْثَالُ الْعُلْيَا وَ الْكِبْرِيَاءُ وَ الْآلَاءُ
And you should be saying during the tenth night, ‘The Praise is for Allah-azwj. There are no associates for Him-azwj. The Praise is for Allah-azwj just as is befitting for the Benevolence of His-azwj Face, and the Honour of His-azwj Majesty, and just as He-azwj is Rightful for it. O Holy! O Light of Holiness! O Praiseworthy! O Final End-Point of Gloriousness! O Beneficent! O Dealer of Mercy! O Knowledgeable! O Great! O Allah-azwj! O Kind! O Majestic! O Allah-azwj! O Listener! O Seer! O Allah-azwj! O Allah-azwj! O Allah-azwj! For You-azwj are the Beautiful Names, and the Lofty examples, and the Greatness, and the Loftiness.

فَقَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي لَمْ أَكُنْ عِنْدَهُ مَنْسِيّاً الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَثْبَتَنِي عِنْدَهُ فِي صَحِيفَةِ الْأَبْرَارِ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ذِي الْجَلَالِ وَ الْإِكْرَامِ.
So Amir Al-Momineen-asws said: ‘The Praise is for Allah-azwj in Whose Presence I-asws am not forgotten! The Praise is for Allah-azwj Who Affirmed me-asws in His-azwj Presence in a Parchment of the righteous! And the Praise is for Allah-azwj, the One with the Majesty and the Benevolence’. [16]
