Al-Muddaththir

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُدَّثِّرُ

Yaaa ayyuhal muddassir

O you Al-Muddasir! (the covered one)

قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ

Qum fa anzir

Arise, so warn (others)

وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ

Wa rabbaka fakabbir

And your Lord, so exclaim His Greatness

وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ

Wa siyaabaka fatahhir

And your garments, so purify

وَٱلرُّجْزَ فَٱهْجُرْ

Warrujza fahjur

And the uncleanness, so avoid

وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ

Wa laa tamnun tastaksir

And do not confer favours hoping to be reciprocated with abundance

وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصْبِرْ

Wa li Rabbika fasbir

And for your Lord, be patient

فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِى ٱلنَّاقُورِ

Fa izaa nuqira fin naaqoor

So, when it is resonated in the organ (When trumpet will be sounded)

فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ

Fazaalika yawma 'iziny yawmun 'aseer

That day, it will be such a harsh day

عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ

'Alal kaafireena ghairu yaseer

Upon the Kafirs, it would not be easy

ذَرْنِى وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا

Zarnee wa man khalaqtu waheedaa

Leave Me and the one I Created as Al-Waheed

وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُۥ مَالًا مَّمْدُودًا

Wa ja'altu lahoo maalam mamdoodaa

And Made extensive wealth to be for him

وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا

Wa baneena shuhoodaa

And boys as witnesses

وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمْهِيدًا

Wa mahhattu lahoo tamheeda

And the way was paved for him

ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ

Summa yat ma'u an azeed

Then he covets that I should Increase?

كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا عَنِيدًا

Kallaaa innahoo kaana li Aayaatinaa 'aneedaa

Never! Surely, he was stubborn to Our Signs

سَأُرْهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا

Sa urhiquhoo sa'oodaa

Soon I (Allah) will Overtake him with an ever-increasing Punishment

إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ

Innahoo fakkara wa qaddar

He (Waheed) pondered and plotted

فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ

Faqutila kayfa qaddar

So, he (Waheed) would be killed, how (much) he plotted!

ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ

Summa qutila kaifa qaddar

Then, he (Waheed) would be killed, how (much) he plotted!

ثُمَّ نَظَرَ

Summa nazar

Then he (Waheed) looked

ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ

Summa 'abasa wa basar

Then he (Waheed) frowned and scowled

ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ

Summaa adbara wastakbar

Then he (Waheed) turned back and was arrogant

فَقَالَ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ

Faqaala in haazaaa illaa sihruny yu'sar

Then he (Waheed) said, ‘This is only an effect of sorcery

إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوْلُ ٱلْبَشَرِ

In haazaaa illaa qawlul bashar

Surely, (Waheed said) these are only words of the human’

سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ

Sa usleehi saqar

I (Allah) will Make him arrive to Saqar

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ

Wa maaa adraaka maa saqar

And what will make you realize what is Saqar?

لَا تُبْقِى وَلَا تَذَرُ

Laa tubqee wa laa tazar

It neither lets remain nor spares (anyone)

لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ

Lawwaahatul lilbashar

Scorching for the person

عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ

'Alaihaa tis'ata 'ashar

Upon it are nineteen (appointed angels of Punishment)

وَمَا جَعَلْنَآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَـٰٓئِكَةً ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَيَزْدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِيمَـٰنًا ۙ وَلَا يَرْتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ وَٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَـٰذَا مَثَلًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِىَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ

Wa maaja'alnaaa As-haaban naari illaa malaaa 'ikatanw wa maa ja'alnaa 'iddatahum illaa fitnatal lillazeena kafaroo liyastaiqinal lazeena ootul kitaaba wa yazdaadal lazeena aamanooo eemaananw wa laa yartaabal lazeena ootul kitaaba walmu'minoona wa liyaqoolal lazeena fee quloo bihim maradunw walkaafiroona maazaaa araadal laahu bihaazaa masalaa; kazaalika yudillul laahu mai yashaaa'u wa yahdee mai yashaaa'; wa maa ya'lamu junooda rabbika illaa hoo; wa maa hiya illaa zikraa lil bashar

And have not Made the wardens of the Fire, except the Angels, and We have not Made their number except as a Fitna for those who commit Kufr, and for those Given the Book to be certain, and to increase the Eman of those who believe, and (although) those Given the Book and Momineen do not doubt; And for those in whose hearts there is a sickness and the Kafirs to be saying, ‘What is that which Allah Intends with these examples?’ Like that, Allah Lets stray one He so Desires to and Guides one He so Desires to. And none knows the armies of your Lord except Him, and it is not, except a Zikr for the humans

كَلَّا وَٱلْقَمَرِ

Kallaa walqamar

Never! (I Swear) by the moon,

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ

Wallaili id adbar

And the night when it turns back,

وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ

Wassub hi izaaa asfar

And the morning when it shines!

إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى ٱلْكُبَرِ

Innahaa la ihdal kubar

It is one of the greatest signs

نَذِيرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ

Nazeeral lilbashar

A warning to the humans

لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ

Liman shaaa'a minkum any yataqaddama aw yata akhkhar

For one of you who desires can either send forward or delay

كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ

Kullu nafsim bima kasabat raheenah

Every soul would be held for what it earns

إِلَّآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْيَمِينِ

Illaaa as haabal yameen

Except companions of the right hand

فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ

Fee jannaatiny yata saaa'aloon

In Gardens, they (residents of Paradise) would be asking

عَنِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ

'Anil mujrimeen

From the criminals

مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِى سَقَرَ

Maa salakakum fee saqar

What brought you into Saqar (Inferno)?

قَالُوا۟ لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ

Qaaloo lam naku minal musalleen

They shall say, ‘We were not from the Musalleen

وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ ٱلْمِسْكِينَ

Wa lam naku nut'imul miskeen

And we did not used to feed the poor

وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلْخَآئِضِينَ

Wa kunnaa nakhoodu ma'al khaaa'izeen

And we used to indulge in vanities along with the indulgers in vanities

وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ

Wa kunnaa nukazzibu bi yawmid Deen

And we used to belie the Day of Religion

حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلْيَقِينُ

Hattaaa ataanal yaqeen

Until the certainty came to us (now)

فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَـٰعَةُ ٱلشَّـٰفِعِينَ

Famaa tanfa'uhum shafaa'atush shaafi'een

So, the intercession of intercessors will not benefit them (Ashabul Shimal)

فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلتَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ

Famaa lahum anit' tazkirati' mu'rideen

So, what is the matter with them, turning away from the Tazkira (rememberance)?

كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ

Ka annahum humurum mustanfirah

As if they were frightened donkeys

فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍۭ

Farrat min qaswarah

Fleeing from a lion (A single Lion- Imam Ali - the lion of Allah)

بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً

Bal yureedu kullum ri'im minhum any yu'taa suhufam munashsharah

But, every person from them wants to be Given pages spread out

كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ

Kallaa bal laa yakhaafoonal aakhirah

Never! But, they are not fearing the Hereafter

كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذْكِرَةٌ

Kallaaa innahoo tazkirah

Never! It is a Tazkira

فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ

Fa man shaaa'a zakarah

So, the one who desires it, would pay heed

وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ

Wa maa yazkuroona illaaa any yashaaa'al laah; Huwa ahlut taqwaa wa ahlul maghfirah

And they will not be paying heed except if Allah so Desires. He is rightful to be feared and rightful for (Granting) the Forgiveness
