Summary[1]:
The Eids and Fridays, without any doubt, are Holy and Blessed days. On the day of Eid, Allah-azwj Awards those who have remained faithful to His-azwj Commands and Scolds those who have violated the Divine Laws. The Rewards of Allah-azwj, however, are not similar to those of the kings (so are not worldly gifts like those exchanged by people) but are for the Hereafter – a permanent Abode. Imam Hassan-asws disliked those Muslims who were laughing, joking and talking cheerfully on the Eid day and told his-asws companions that if the Veils are removed from their eyes they will realise the extent of the Punishment for the unsuccessful ones and the distribution of (heavenly) bounties for the successful ones.
In several Ahadith, which are the subject of this article, the Eid day is referred to as ‘Blissful’ but Muslims have made it ‘sad and sorrowful’ for the Ahl Al-Bayt-asws by taking away their Divine Rights over people, which excludes them from public gatherings and make them-asws sad. Hence, when they-asws see Muslims walking towards the Eid gatherings (congregational Prayers and celebrations), the grief of the Imams-asws[2] is renewed like that of an old wound, which is scratched and is never allowed to heal. Surely, this is the case of the Imam-ajfj of our time, who behind a ‘Curtain’ is experiencing the same pain, and cries the tears of blood on the onset of the day and the beginning of the night – a day in and a day out. Everything that makes Allah-azwj and Ahl Al-Bayt-asws ‘Sad’ naturally also makes us sad, so we seek the Blessings and rewards of Allah-azwj and Ahl Al-Bayt-asws by commemorating the atrocities against the Allah’s Representatives – by holding the gatherings of Aza-o-Matam.
However, this is distressing for those twelve-Immami Shias, who would like to emulate the Sunnis Muslims, in holding the Eid Salat gatherings, exchanging gifts, laughing and joking on the day of Eid. Hence, whatever makes the Imam-asws of our time, grievous, they would do that!!
There are thirty (30) obligatory Fasts in the Month of Ramazan, they don’t mind observing 29, there is no Jamat (congregational) Eid Salat without the presence of Just Imam-asws (Divine Imam), they offer Eid Salat behind a ‘mullah’ who is paid to lead Salat. However, Rasool Allah-saww has forbidden taking wages for leading Salat, but they pay their ‘mullah’ and he happily accepts it. Not only that, they are also pleased with accepting conflicting decisions on religious matters (i.e., moon sighting as well as on halal and haram) but it has become ‘the norm’ for them. They furiously defend all Maraja Taqleed, even with conflicts in their fatawa but the Ahadith of Ahl Al-Bayt-asws are rejected and ignored, whereas the first-ones are the fallible (non-masoon) and latter are the Infallible (Masoom-asws)! Will all of this not make the Imam-ajfj of our time grievous – for the crimes against the Ahl Al-Bayt-asws in the past and the plundering of the religious Laws by those who claim to be representing him-ajfj? These happen every single day, hence no tranquillity for the Imam-asws of our time!!
May Allah-azwj Protect us from all ‘Fitna’ (strife) mongers’ of our time for the sake of Mohammed-saww and Aly Mohammed-asws, Ameen, Suma Ameen!!
Eid Celebrations or Aza-o-Matam:
The Eid of Muslims, in general and those of Shias in particular, never passes without controversies, dividing the community – even within the one family!! Instead of sighting the Moon and observing the month of Ramazan and Eid based on the New moon, the decisions on which day is the first of the month are either implemented by the governments in Muslim countries or by following a particular school of thought; for most shias, moonsighting is issued from the office of their Maraja-e-Taqleed. Quite ironically, these Maraja never agree on a single date and those who try to resolve the differences end-up issuing another date based on consensus, thereby adding to the already unclear situation and ambiguity. Hence, the acts of worships are performed under ‘uncertainty’, or utmost, at some level of it!
When asked, however, what happens when the same Salat-leader has to lead the prayers on two or three consecutive days, and some of the family members are fasting while other half are observing the Eid? They say, we have in place ‘Plan A’, to take those who are fasting ‘for a ride’, hence breaking their fast (after arriving at the Kasr distance) and ‘Plan B’ is to not go for Eid Salat as well as defer it’s celebrations until the following day. They quietly stay at home and observe Eid the next day with the other half.[3] The outcome is similar to the violation of the Jew’s ‘Sabbath-day’[4] or equivalent to Sunnis’ fabricated Hadith: Rasool Allah-saww (nouzobillah) said: ‘my companions are like the stars, whomever you follow, you will be guided!![5] Amir-ul-Momineen-asws, on the contrary, says: When there are two contradictory statements, (at least) one of those will be unjust.[6]
The same group, who cannot agree on the 1st of the month (for the month of Ramazan, Shawwal/Zil-Hajj), however, agrees on ‘one common front’ that all shias, one day or the other day, should join them in Eid Salat and Eid celebrations, if they cannot, they should not be organising Aza programmes on Eid, in quiet brotherhood and harmony with the Wahabis/Sunnis in this respect!! Since it happens every year, we decided to reply to their accusations where they call the acts of ‘Aza-o-Matam’ on Eid and abstaining from their Eid celebrations, as ‘Fitna’, see Appendix I (the write-up is in Urdu, which is unfortunate for those who may not be able to read Urdu. However, our reply is in English in the main article as well as highlighted yellow within boarders under Urdu text).
It is also important to note that the month of Muharram is one of the four ‘blessed’ (sacred) Islamic months, but after the killings of Ahl Al-Bayt-asws at Karbala, it is observed with grief in which visiting the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain-asws has the rewards of one thousand of those accepted Ummra and Hajj, performed with in the company of Rasool Allah-saww. The same reward is for the visiting of Imam-asws’s holy Shrine on the Eid day, which would never be without immense grief, of course. Similarly, if the ‘martyrdom’ of a Masoom-asws falls on a Friday or the day of Ashura happens to be on Friday, then that Friday, which surely is also an Eid, becomes a day of mourning.[7]
The Supplication of an Angel that Muslims will Never be Harmonised on Eid:
Ali Bin Muhammad, from the one who mentioned it, from Muhammad Bin Suleyment, from Abdullah Bin Lateef Al Tafleesy, from Razeyn who said,
‘Abu Abdullah-asws said: ‘When Al-Husayn Bin Ali-asws was struck with the sword, so his-asws head fell, so they began to cut off his-asws head, a Caller called out from the middle of the Throne: ‘Indeed! O you confused community, the Strayed ones after its Prophet-saww! Allah-azwj will neither Let you be harmonised for (Eid) Al-Azha nor (Eid) Al-Fitr’.
He (the narrator) said, ‘Then Abu Abdullah-asws said: ‘So, there is no doubt, by Allah-azwj! They are not harmonised, nor would they be harmonising until He-azwj Avenges the revenge of Al-Husayn-asws’.[8]
We will, against this background, briefly cover the following clarifications in this article with:
- There will always be 30 days in the Month of Ramazan (never 29);
- There is no Eid Salat in congregation without the presence of the Just Imam-asws;
- The meanings of the word ‘سُرُوراً’ (joy) on the Eid-day, as in the Ahadith;
- The Blessings and Rewards on the Eid-day and the Grief of Mohammed-saww and Aly-e-Mohammed-asws;
The Month of Ramazan will never be Deficient (less than 30 days):
Ali Bin Muhammad, from Salih Bin Abu Hammad, from Ibn Sinan, from Huzeyfa Bin Mansour,
(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws having said: ‘The Month of Ramazan is of thirty days, not being deficient, ever!’

A number of our companions, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Muhammad Bin Ismail, from one of his companions,
(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws having said: ‘Allah-azwj Blessed and High Created the world in six days, then Reduced these from the days of the year; and the year is of three hundred and fifty four (354) days. Shaban will never be complete[10], ever; (month of) Ramazan will never be deficient, by Allah-azwj, ever! And the Obligation (30 Fast of the month of Ramazan) would never happen to be deficient.
Allah-azwj the Mighty and Majestic is Saying [2:185] and (He Desires) that you should complete the number; Shawwal is of twenty nine days and Zilqaada is of thirty days due to the Words of Allah-azwj the Mighty and Majestic. [7:142] And We Appointed with Musa a time of thirty nights and Completed them with ten (more), so the Appointed time of his Lord was complete forty nights; Zilhijja is of twenty nine days and Al-Muharram is of thirty days. Then, the months after that would be either a complete month or an incomplete month’.[11]
Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Muhammad Bin Al Husayn, from Ibn Sinan, from Huzeyfa Bin Mansour, from Moaz Bin Kaseer,
(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws having said: ‘The Month of Ramazan is of thirty days, not being deficient, by Allah-azwj, ever!’[12]
Eid Salat is Void without the presence of the Just Imam-asws
The majority of the 12 Imami Shias, get together on the Eid-day to offer Salat in Jamaat (congregational Prayer) behind a mullah, regardless of whether he is Fasting or not, depending upon the instructions he would receive from his Maraja. So, he leads Eid prayers, usually on several days (in the West), sometimes even while Fasting!! However, the Eid Salat in Jamaat (congregational) is invalid without the presence of the Just Imam-asws (to have his-asws Government established over people), see for example one Hadith here, the additional Ahadith are given in Appendix II.
Zrara Bin Ain narrates from Imam Abu Jafar-asws that Imam-asws says:” There are neither Salat on the Day of Al-Fitar nor on Al-Azha except in the presence of a Just Imam-asws.[13]
The meanings of the word ‘Sarur’ on the Eid-day;
The typical Eid celebration rituals for the Eid-goers are them in the best of their outfits, observing the Eid day with a congregational Eid Salat, exchanging gifts (Eidie) and exhibiting the signs of joy and happiness in every respect from greetings (jokes, smiles, laughter) to the consumption of specially prepared festive foods and drinks.
The justification that the Eid celebrators usually come up with for the happy Eid rituals is that it is a day of ‘سُرُوراً’’ ‘Sarur’. And they usually quote a Verse from a supplication of Imam Zain-ul-Abadeen-asws (no. 52) containing the word ‘سُرُوراً’ (joy), from Sahifa-e-Sajjadia Supplication no. 45 ‘His Supplications in Bidding Farewell to the Month of Ramazan’ Verse no. 52 (Supplication no. 45 Verse no. 52).
O Allah-azwj! We repent to You-azwj in our day of fast-breaking, which You-azwj have Appointed for the faithful a festival and a joy and for the people of Your creed a tie of assembly and gathering, from every misdeed we did, ill work we sent forward or evil thought we secretly conceived, the repentance of one who does not harbour a return to sin and who afterwards will not go back to offense, an unswerving repentance rid of doubt and wavering So accept it from us, be Pleased with us, and fix us within it![14]
Also see the following Hadith,
And regarding the reason which is reported from Al-Fazl Bin Shazaan Al-Neyshapouri, may Allah-azwj be Pleased with him, and he mentioned that he heard it from Al-Reza-asws: ‘Rather, the day of Al-Fitr has been made to be the Eid for it, to become a gathering for Muslims in which they would be assembling, and they would be emphasising for the Sake of Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic, so they would be Glorifying Him-azwj upon what He-azwj had Favoured upon them.
Thus, it would happen to be a day of Eid, and a day of gathering, and a day of Fitr, and a day of Zakat, and a day of wishes, and a day of supplications, and because it is the first day of the (Islamic) year and one is allowed to eat and drink, because the first month of the (Islamic) year in the presence of the people of the Truth is the Month of Ramazaan. Therefore Allah-azwj the Mighty and Majestic Loved (Ordained) it that it would happen, during that day, a gathering where they would be Praising Him-azwj in, and Extolling His-azwj Holiness.
And rather, the exclaiming of the Takbeers therein is more than what is in other days, from the Salat, because the exclamation of the Takbeer, rather, it is a reverence of Allah-azwj, and Glorification upon what He-azwj has Guided and Pardoned, just as Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Said: and that you should exclaim the Greatness of Allah for His having Guided you and that you may give thanks [2:185]. And rather, twelve Takbeers have been made to be therein because there happens to be in two Cycles (of Salat) twelve Takbeers; and Made seven to be in the first and five to be in the second, and did not Equate between the two, because the Sunnah in the Obligatory Salat is that you open with seven Takbeers.
Therefore, due to that, you begin over there with seven Takbeers. And He-azwj Made five Takbeers to be in the second (Cycle) because the Prohibition from the Takbeers during the day and the night, is five Takbeers, and for the Takbeers to happen to be in the two Cycles together, once, once’.[15]
Here, the سُرُوراً’ (joy) is meant to thank Allah-azwj for enabling us to Fast and observe the condition of Fasting and for the Forgiveness from Allah-azwj for those sins which were committed due to our slips and is certainly not the kind of ‘joy’ which Muslim exhibit on the Eid day. See the Hadith below:
And (Imam) Hassan-asws ibn Ali-asws saw that people were playing, laughing and enjoying on the Eid of Eid-ul-Fitr, Imam-asws pointed out to his-asws companions and said: Allah-azwj has Made the month of Ramazan like a race-course for horses, in which people compete against each other to secure the rewards of Allah-azwj, as a result one group goes ahead and wins while the other group lags behind and loses. But I am surprised (rather) very much surprised to see them, laughing and playing around in vain, but if the curtains are lifted from their eyes, they would realised how people are punished for their sins and others are rewarded for their good deeds.[16]
The Meanings of ‘سُرُوراً’ in another Hadith:
Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father, who from his father, who from ibn Abu Umayr, who from Hisham ibn Al-Hakam, who says:
Abu Abd Allah said: Of the most beloved deeds to Allah-azwj is ‘سُرُوراً’ the pleasing of the heart of a Momin (believer), by means of satisfying his hunger, relief for his suffering or paying off his debt.[17]
The Divine Gifts are not the ‘Gifts of Kings’!
It is narrated from Imam Abi Jaffar-asws that Rasool Allah-saww said that a Divine announcer says, on Eid ‘Wake up believers to receive you gifts’ and then said, but these gifts are not like those which one would receive from kings (but are for Hereafter) and then said: Eid is the special day of Blessings.[18]
It is narrated from Imam Abi Abullah-asws that on Eid day, a divine announcer announces to wake up for your gifts (which are in return of the Fasts observed by the believers – the Gifts for the Hereafter).[19]
And it has been narrated from Jabir, who says:
Abi Abd Allah-asws (5th Imam) said that Rasool Allah-saww said: that a Divine announcer says, on Eid ‘Wake up believers to receive you gifts’ and then said, but these gifts are not like those which one would receive from kings (but are for hereafter) and then said: Eid is the day of judgement and receiving the rewards.[20]
The narrator asked from Imam Abi Abdullah-asws: I have heard from people that he is blessed who fasts on Shab-e-Qadr’ in the month of Ramazan. Imam-asws replied a worker gets wages after finishing his job, the same is true for the evening of the Eid. I said, may I be your ransom, what shall I perform? Imam-asws replied: Take a bath after the sunset, then recite Magrib prayers, and raise both your hands and pray to Allah-azwj: The One Who rewards more than one deserves, the most Powerful and the most Kind, please forgive my sins, which I have forgotten but these are written in Your register, then go into prostration and recite 100 times ‘أتوب إلى الله ‘ and then make your wish. It is also narrated Amir-ul-Momaneen-asws used to offer two-part salat after Magrib salat in Shab-e-Qadr and in the first ‘Rakat’ would recite 1000 time ‘Qulhowal ho Ahad’ after ‘Alhamnd’ but only once ‘Qulhowal ho Ahad’ after ‘Alhamnd’ in the second ‘Rakat’.[21]
The Desert is the place for Eid-Salat (under open skies and prostration on earth)
And it has been narrated from Jafar ibn Bashir, who heard it from Abd Allah ibn Sinan, who says:
Abu Abd Allah-asws said: The one who cannot join people in the Eid ‘Jamat’ (congregational) prayers, he, may take a bath wear fragrance and offer Salat in the house as he would in the Jamat.[22]
Haroon ibn Hamza Al-Ghannavi has been narrated:
Abu Abd Allah-asws said: It is better to go to a desert for the offering of the Salat of Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha, if one can. I (the narrator) asked, if someone is ill and is unable go to the desert, can he offer the Salat at home. Imam-asws replied, no, (he should not).[23]
Why do Eid-days Bring ‘Grief’ to the Ahl Al-Bayt-asws?
And Imam Mohammed Baqir-asws said: On every Eid, either its Eid-ul-Fitr or Eid-ul-Azha, it bring grief to Aly Mohammed, I (the narrator) said, I asked why is that? The Imam-asws said: Because they-asws see their-asws rights have been taken away by the others (their-asws enemies).[24]
The Rewards of the Eid-day and the Grief of Mohammed-saww and Aly-e-Mohammed-asws
In the supplication of Imam Zain-ul-Abdeen-asws, Imam-asws begins by saying that the day of Friday and Eid days are the sacred, blessed and fortunate days and one should beseech to Allah-azwj for asking His-azwj Forgiveness, and ask for the needs, however, later on, Imam-asws says our-asws sadness is highlighted on the Eid day when we-asws find our-asws rights in the hands of our-asws enemies and Imam-asws Pleads Allah-azwj to curse them. Please see the complete sermon in Appendix III, here we have only included those verses of the sermon (1, 9, 10, 11) which are relevant to our topic.
Imam Zain-ul-Abdeen-asws‘s Supplication on the Day of Sacrifice and on Friday[25]:
(1) O Allah-azwj! This is a blessed and fortunate day, within which the Muslims are gathered in the quarters of Your-azwj earth. Among them are present the asker, the seeker, and beseecher, the fearful, while You-azwj are Looking upon their needs. So, I ask You-azwj by Your-azwj Munificence and Generosity and it is Easy for You-azwj for I have asked from You-azwj. ….
(9) O Allah-azwj! This ‘Muqam’ (Station) belongs to Your-azwj Vicegerents, Your-azwj Chosen Ones-asws, while the places of Your-azwj Trusted Ones-asws in the elevated degree which You-azwj have Assigned for them-asws have been forcefully stripped. But You-azwj are the Ordainer of that. Your-azwj Command cannot be overcome, the inevitable in Your-azwj Governing is not overstepped! However, Your-azwj Will (is going to be Implemented) as You-azwj Will, and You-azwj Know the Best (when it will). No one can blame you for Your-azwj Creation nor Your-azwj Will. Then Your-azwj Selected friends, Your-azwj Vicegerents, were Overcome, Vanquished, Forcibly Stripped; they see Your-azwj Commands replaced, Your-azwj Book discarded, Your-azwj Obligations distorted from the aims of Your-azwj Laws.
(10) O Allah-azwj! Curse their-asws enemies among those of old and the later ones, and all those pleased with their acts, and their adherents and followers!
(11) O Allah-azwj! Bless Mohammed-saww and the Aly Mohammed-asws, like Your-azwj Blessings, Benedictions, and Salutations upon Your-azwj Chosen Ibrahim-as and the people of Ibrahim-as! And ‘عَجِّلِ الْفَرَج’ Hasten for them relief, ease, help, strengthening, and Confirmation![26]

The Eids for the Faithful:
The narrator says: I asked, if there is any other Eid besides the two Eids, from Imam Abi Abd Allah-asws.
Imam-asws replied: Yes, Hassan! There is which is far more elevated and blessed than these two Eids.
The narrator: please inform me about it.
Imam-asws replied: this was the day, when Amir-ul-momaneen-asws was declared ‘Imam’ of all inhabitants of the whole universe.
The narrator: What shall we do on that day?
Imam-asws’: O Hassan! Keep fast and frequently send ‘Darood’ on Mohammed-saww and Alay Mohammed-asws and send ‘Tabarrah’ (your disapproval) on those who were cruel to them-asws. All the previous Prophets-asws would not only select their Successor on this day but also ask them to fast on this day and instructed them to celebrate this day as Eid.
The narrator: Is there any special reward for fasting on this day?
Imam-asws: Fasting on this day is equivalent to fasting for 60 months and one neither should abandon fasting on 27th of Rajab, this was the day when Rasool Allah-saww was blessed with Prophet Hood; it too has the reward of 60-months fasting.[27]
Imam Musa-e-Kazim-asws said: Allah-azwj blessed Mohammed-saww with Prophet hood on 27th of Rajab, one would get reward of 60 months by fasting on this day. And 25th of Zikat is the day when Allah-azwj created Kabah, which was His-azwj very first blessing on the face of the earth and thus nominated it as a place of repentance and peace for its inhabitants. Fasting on this day has also 60 months fasting reward.[28]
The Narrator says: I asked if there are other Eids for Muslims besides Jummah and the two Eids. Imam-asws replied, yes, there is a significantly more blessed Eid! The narrator: Please inform me about it. Imam-asws’: It was the 18th of Zilhaj when Rasool Allah-saww declared Wilayah of Amir-ul-momaneen-asws, ‘Ali is the master of all those who consider me as guardian’. The narrator: What shall we do, in particular, on that day? Imam-asws: Pray to Allah-azwj, remember Mohammed-saww and Alay Mohammed-asws and fast on this day. Rasool Allah-saww left a will for Imam Ali-asws to celebrate this day as Eid. It used to be the tradition of previous Prophets-as, who also instructed their successor to celebrate Eid on this day.[29]
Appendix I: A ‘Mullah’ Denounces all those who commemorate the Aza-o-Matam on the Eid Day!!
Below is an Urdu Write-up, which calls those who commemorate the Aza-o-matam gatherings on Eid as ‘Fitna’. We have replied in English (highlighted text within borders) where we showed how biased and dishonest the writer of this Urdu text is. This was sent by text/whatsapp during the last fasting days in July, 2015 (our reply is within borders and highlighted in yellow).
Imam Zain-ul-Abadeen-asws says in Sahifa-e-Sajadia Supplication no. 48 Verses 9-11, see English Section (although) Eid is a Blessed day as Ordained by Allah-azwj but it (still) makes us-asws sad when we-asws see our-asws Rights in the hands of the our-asws enemies.
The author of the Urdu article against Aza-o-Matam on the Eid day is basically very dishonest, as he takes Hadith no. 1478 from Manlah Yahzar-ul-Faqqih but ignores the Hadith no. 1480 from the same book and on the same page, in which Imam-asws says:
And Imam Mohammed Baqir-asws said: On every Eid, either its Eid-ul-Fitr or Eid-ul-Azha, it bring grief to Aly Mohammed-asws, I (the narrator) said, I asked why is that? The Imam-asws said: Because they-asws see their-asws rights have been taken away by the others (their-asws enemies).[30]
Again the author of the Urdu article against Aza-o-Matam on the Eid day is dishonest, as he did not, on purpose, when he translated the Arabic text, see the English translation of Hadith 1485 in ref. 15 (من لا يحضره الفقيه، ج1، ص: 522, H. 1485) where Imam-asws says: And regarding the reason which is reported from Al-Fazl Bin Shazaan Al-Neyshapouri, may Allah-azwj be Pleased with him, and he mentioned that he heard it from Al-Reza-asws: ‘Rather, the day of Al-Fitr has been made to be the Eid for it to become a gathering for Muslims in which they would be gathering, and they would be emphasising for the Sake of Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic, so they would be Glorifying Him-azwj upon what He-azwj had Favoured upon them….. (see the rest of the Hadith in the ref. 15)

Appendix II: The Condition of Just Imam-asws for Eid Salat in Jamaat:
The Salat of the two Eids

Zrara Bin Ain narrates from Imam Abu Jafar -asws that Imam-asws says:” There are neither Salat on the Day of Al-Fitar nor on Al-Azha except in the presence of a Just Imam-asws.[31]
It is narrated in Fiqah Al-Raza-asws offer (Salat) under the sky with the Imam-asws. The feast Salat with the Imam-asws has been made mandatory.
Imam Abu Jafar-asws said: O! Abdullah, either it is Eid-ul-Zaha or Eid-ul-Fitr of Muslims, it should refresh the grief and sufferings of Ahlul bait-asws (Abdullah asked), how it is? Imam-asws replied: Because it makes one realise that our Divine rights have been usurped by our enemies. [34]
Ali bin Mohammed narrates that Abu Abdullah-asws said: they-la strike Al-Hussain Bin Ali-asws by the swords when Imam -asws fell down, they-la cuts off Imam-asws‘s head. A caller called from the underneath of throne (Arsh) O you the stray and misled nation! You have left Prophet-saww of Allah-azwj‘s path, you will never be able to celebrate the Eid of Zaha and Eid of Fitr. Imam Abu Abdullah-asws further added: By my Lord, they-la will never be guided and blessed until after the revenge of Imam Al-Hussain-asws has been taken.
The stipulation of the necessity of the Salat of the two Eids
Eid (Salat) are only compulsory (Wajib) in the presence of an Imam-asws (Masoom).[35]
Imam Abu Jaafar-asws said: Eid ul Fitar and the Eid ul Zaha Salat are not valid except in the presence of a Just Imam-asws.[36]
Imam Jafar bin Mohammed-asws was asked: What about a person who does not testify the feast but rather prays in his house? Imam-asws replied: yes, there is no Salat except with a Just Imam-asws.[37]
Imam Jafar Bin Mohamed-asws was asked about the person who he does not witness the Eid, can he offer Salat at home? Imam-asws replied: yes but there is no congressional Salat except with a Just Imam-asws. And who did not witness from a man or a woman he prayed four rak’ah out of which two are for the Eid and two for the Khutbah and (similarly) there are four rak’ah for those people who reside in countryside/desert.[38]
How Imam-asws Greeted His Companions On Eid Days:
It is narrated from Imam Al-Raza-asws by Mohammed bin al-fazil that some followers of Imam-asws came to see him-asws on the day of Eid-ul-Fitar, Imam-asws greeted them: O so-and-so Allah-azwj accepted from you and from us-asws. And when they came again to see Imam-asws on the Day of Sacrifice (Eid ul Zaha) Imam-asws greeted them: O so-and-so accepted Allah-azwj from ourselves-asws and from yourselves. I asked Imam-asws: O Ibn Rasoul Allah-saww on the day of Eid-ul-Fitar you-asws greeted us differently as when we visited you on the Day of Sacrifice. Imam-asws replied: ‘Yes, I-asws said for the Eid-ul-Fitar that Allah-azwj accepted from you and from us-asws because yourself and myself-asws did the same thing (fasting), And I-asws said for on the Day of Sacrifice : Allah-azwj accepted from ourselves-asws and from yourselves. This is due to the fact that we-asws are able to offer the sacrifice (Qurbani) and (some of) you are unable of offer (an animal) on the day.[39]
Appendix III: Supplications of Imam Zain-ul-Abadeen-asws on the Day of Sacrifice and on Friday[40]
O Allah-azwj! This is a day, Blessed and fortunate, and the Muslims therein in the horizons of the earth, attended by the beseecher from them, and the seeker, and the wisher, and the fearful, and You-azwj are the Watcher with regards to their needs. Therefore, I ask You-azwj by Your-azwj Benevolence, and Your-azwj Generosity, and it is easy upon You-azwj what I am asking for, that You-azwj (Please) Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and his-saww Progeny-asws.
And I ask you-azwj, O Allah-azwj, our Lord-azwj, for You-azwj being the Kingdom and for You-azwj being the Praise. There is no god except for You-azwj, the Forbearing, the Generous, the Loving, the Kind, One-azwj with the Majesty and the Munificence, Initiator of the skies and the earth. Whatever You-azwj so Apportion between Your-azwj servants, the Believers – be it from the goodness, or health, or Blessings, or Guidance, or working in Your-azwj obedience, or goodness which You-azwj Favour with upon them Guiding them by it to You-azwj, or Raising for them a Level in Your-azwj Presence, or Your-azwj Giving them goodness from the goodness of the world and the Hereafter, that You-azwj should Give me my share from it.
And I ask You-azwj, O Allah-azwj, for You-azwj being the Kingdom and the Praise, there being no god except for You-azwj, that You-azwj should Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww, Your-azwj servant, and Your-azwj Rasool-saww, and Your-azwj Beloved, and Your-azwj elite, and Your-azwj Choice from Your-azwj creatures, and upon the Progeny-asws of Muhammad-saww, the righteous, the pure, the chosen, by such Blessings which none has the strength to count except You-azwj, and that You-azwj Associate us-asws among the righteous ones who supplicate to You-azwj during this day, from Your-azwj servants, the Believers. O Lord-azwj of the worlds! And, that You-azwj (Please) Forgive us and them, You-azwj being Able upon everything.
O Allah-azwj! To You-azwj I deliberated with my need, and to You-azwj I reveal my-asws poverty, and my destitution, and my neediness, and I have complete trust in Your-azwj Forgiveness and Your-azwj Mercy than I have in my own deeds, for Your-azwj Forgiveness and Your-azwj Mercy is more Extensive than that of my sins. Therefore, Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and the Progeny-asws of Muhammad-saww, and Undertake the fulfilment of every need which is for me by Your-azwj Power over it, and that is easy upon You-azwj, and by my poverty to You-azwj and Your-azwj Richness over me, for I-asws did not come across goodness at all except from You-azwj, and no one turned evil away from me apart from You-azwj, nor do I hope for the matters of my Hereafter and my world in besides You-azwj.
O Allah-azwj! (If ever) anyone mobilised, and readied, and prepared, and warmed up for a delegation, hoping of his provision, and his optional (deeds), and seeking its awards and its recompense, so upon You-azwj, my Master-azwj, today would be the day of my mobilisation, and my readiness, and my preparation hoping for You-azwj Forgiveness, and Your-azwj Provision, and seeking Your-azwj Awards and Your-azwj Recompense.
O Allah-azwj! Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and the Progeny-asws of Muhammad-saww, and do not Disappoint my hope today. O the One-azwj Whom a beggar cannot harass, nor can a receiver diminish, for I did not come to You-azwj relying upon the righteous deeds which I sent forward, nor hoping for an intercession of any creature except for the intercession of Muhammad-saww and the People-asws of his-saww Household, upon him-saww and upon them-asws be Your-azwj Greetings.
I come to You-azwj acknowledging the crime, and the evil wrought upon myself. I come to You-azwj hoping for Your-azwj great Forgiveness by which You-azwj Forgive the offenders, then it did not prevent You-azwj, their prolonged indulgence upon the great crimes, from Turning towards them with the Mercy and the Forgiveness.
So, O the One-azwj Whose Mercy is Extensive, and His-azwj Forgiveness is Great. O the Great One! O the Great One! O the Benevolent, O the Benevolent! Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and the Progeny-asws of Muhammad-saww, and Judge upon me with Your-azwj Mercy, and be Kind upon me with Your-azwj Grace, and Expand upon me with Your-azwj Forgiveness.
O Allah-azwj! This is the status of Your-azwj Caliphs and Your-azwj Chosen ones, and the places of Your-azwj Entrustments in the elevated Levels which You-azwj have Chosen them with, which they-asws have been deprived of, and You-azwj are the Ordainer of that. Your-azwj Command will not be overcome, nor will the inevitable from Your-azwj Management be exceeded, however You-azwj so Desire to, and wherever You-azwj so Desire to, and to what You-azwj are more Knowing with, without an accusation upon your-azwj creation, nor to Your-azwj Intention, to the extent that Your-azwj Chosen one, and Your-azwj Caliphs, the ones overcomed, the oppressed, the deprived, are seeing Your-azwj Judgement to have been altered (by the people), and Your-azwj Book to have been forsaken, and Your-azwj Obligations to have been distorted from the perspectives of Your-azwj Laws, and the Sunnah of Your-azwj Prophet-saww to have been neglected.
O Allah-azwj! Curse their-asws enemies, from the former ones and the later ones, and the ones who are pleased with their deeds, and their adherents, and their followers’
O Allah-azwj! Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and the Progeny-asws of Muhammad-saww, You-azwj being a Praised One, a Glorified One, like Your-azwj Blessings, and Your-azwj Benedictions, and Your-azwj Salutations upon Your-azwj Chosen one Ibrahim-as and the Progeny of Ibrahim-as; ‘وَ عَجِّلِ الْفَرَجَ’ and Hasten the Relief, and the ease, and the help, and the enablement, and the confirmation for them-asws.
O Allah-azwj! And Make me to be from the people of Oneness (Tawheed), and the belief in You-azwj, and the ratification in Your-azwj Rasool-saww and the Imams-asws the obedience to whom You-azwj Necessitated, from the ones-asws that flows by and upon his-asws hands. Ameen, Lord-azwj of the worlds.
O Allah-azwj! (Nothing) returns Your-azwj Anger except for Your-azwj Forbearance, nor Your-azwj Displeasure except for Your-azwj Forgiveness, nor (does anything) Shelter from Your-azwj Punishment except for Your-azwj Mercy, nor my attaining Salvation except by the supplication to You-azwj and in front of You-azwj. Therefore, Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and the Progeny-asws of Muhammad-saww, and Endow to us – O my God – from You-azwj, a relief by the Ordainment by which You-azwj would be Reviving the dead servants with, and by it You-azwj would be Resurrecting the dead cities.
And do not Destroy me – O my God – through gloom until You-azwj Respond to me, and Introduce me to the Answer regarding my supplication, and Make me to taste the good health up to the end of my term (life-span). And, do not Let my enemies to gloat over me, nor Let them be enabled upon my neck, nor to have authority upon me.
My God! If You were to Raise me, so who is that who can Place me down? And if You-azwj were to Put me down, so who is that who can raise me? And if You-azwj were to Honour me, so who is that who can humiliate me? And if You-azwj were to Humiliate me, so who is that who can honour me? And if You-azwj were to Punish me, so who is that who can be merciful to me? And if Your-azwj were to Destroy me, so who is that who can make representations to You-azwj among Your-azwj creatures, or ask You-azwj about his affairs?’ And I have known that there is no injustice in Your-azwj Decisions, nor any haste in Your-azwj Vengeance. But rather, hasty is the one who fears the loss of opportunity, and rather, it is only the weak one who needs to do wrong, and You-azwj are Exalted – O my God – from that, Higher, Greater.
O Allah-azwj! Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and the Progeny-asws of Muhammad-saww, and do not Make me to be a target for the afflictions, nor a share for Your-azwj Vengeance, and Respite me, and Comfort me, Belittle my slips, and do not Afflict me with an affliction upon the footsteps of an affliction, for You-azwj can See my weakness and the scarcity of my strategies, and my supplications to You-azwj.
O Allah-azwj! I seek Refuge with You-azwj today, from You-azwj Anger, so Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and his-saww Progeny-asws, and Shelter me.
And I seek to be Rescued today from Your-azwj Displeasure, so Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and his-saww Progeny-asws, and Rescue me.
And I ask You-azwj for Security from Your-azwj Punishment, so Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and his-saww Progeny-asws, and Secure me.
And I seek Your-azwj Guidance, so Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and his-saww Progeny-asws, and Guide me.
And I seek Your-azwj help, so Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and his-saww Progeny-asws, and Help me.
And I seek Your-azwj Mercy, so Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and his-saww Progeny-asws, and be Merciful to me.
And I seek Your-azwj Sufficiency, so Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and his-saww Progeny-asws, and Suffice me.
And I seek Your-azwj Grace, so Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and his-saww Progeny-asws, and Grace me.
And I seek Your-azwj Support, so Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and his-saww Progeny-asws, and Support me.
And I seek Your-azwj Forgiveness to what is past from my sins, so Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and his-saww Progeny-asws, and Forgive me.
And I seek Your-azwj Protection, so Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and his-saww Progeny-asws, and Protect me, for I will never return to something which You-azwj Dislike from me, if You-azwj so Desire that.
O Lord-azwj! O Lord-azwj! O Loving! O Kind! O one with Majesty and the Benevolence! Send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and his-saww Progeny-asws, and Respond to me for the entirety of what I ask You-azwj, and seek from You-azwj, and hope in to You-azwj, and Intend it, and Ordain it, and Fulfill it, and Uphold it, and Choose for me regarding what You-azwj Judge from it, and Bless me in that, and Grace upon me with it, and Make me to be happy with what You-azwj Give me from it, and Increase for me from Your-azwj Grace, and Expand what is with You-azwj, for You-azwj are Capacious, Generous. And Link that with goodness of the Hereafter and its Bliss, O Most Merciful of the merciful ones’.
Then supplicate with whatever comes to you, and send Blessings upon Muhammad-saww and his-saww Progeny-asws a thousand times. This is what he-asws used to do’.

[4] Holy Quran (2:65) And certainly you have known those among you who exceeded the limits of the Sabbath, so We said to them: Be (as) apes, despised and hated. (Sabbath day was reserved exclusively for prayers. To do anything else was forbidden. The people invented crafty methods through which the fish got trapped. In this way they resorted to fishing which was also forbidden on the Sabbath days. In view of their persistent violations in spite of the repeated warnings given by the prophets., they were transformed into apes.)
