Different Slogans were used in the battles of Islam, e.g., the slogan of the Muslims on the day of the battle of Badr was: O Victorious, Higher!

وَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع جَاءَ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ص فَقَالَ لَهُ إِنَّ التَّلْبِيَةَ شِعَارُ الْمُحْرِمِ فَارْفَعْ صَوْتَكَ بِالتَّلْبِيَةِ لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ لَبَّيْكَ‏ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَ النِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَ الْمُلْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ

Amir-ul-Momaneen^-asws said that Angel Gabrial^-as came to Prophet^-saww and said: ‘Allah^-azwj Says that the ‘Shaar’ (Nara) of the one who wears ‘Ahram’ is to recite ‘Talbih’, so raise you voice to answer (His^-azwj Call by reciting) ‘Labbaik Allah Huma Labbaik La Shareek laka Labbaik Innal Hamda Walnaimata laka walmulka la Shareek laka Labbaik.[1]…….

عَلِيٌّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ قَدِمَ أُنَاسٌ مِنْ مُزَيْنَةَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ص فَقَالَ مَا شِعَارُكُمْ قَالُوا حَرَامٌ قَالَ بَلْ شِعَارُكُمْ حَلَالٌ وَ رُوِيَ أَيْضاً أَنَّ شِعَارَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ يَا مَنْصُورُ أَمِتْ وَ شِعَارَ يَوْمِ أُحُدٍ لِلْمُهَاجِرِينَ يَا بَنِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَا بَنِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَ لِلْأَوْسِ يَا بَنِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from certain persons of his people from al Sukuniy who has said the following:

‘Abu Abd Allah^-asws has said that certain people from Muzaynah came to the Holy Prophet^-saww. He asked^-saww: What is your Slogan? They replied it is ‘unlawful’. Prophet^-saww said: ‘No, it is ‘lawful’.

And it is also narrated that the slogan of the Muslims on the day of Badr was: O Victorious, Higher!’ The slogan of al-Muhajirun on the day of ‘Uhud’ was ‘O bani Abd Allah, O bani ‘Abd ar-Rahman!’ The slogan of al-Aws was ‘O bani Abd Allah!’[2]

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ شِعَارُنَا يَا مُحَمَّدُ يَا مُحَمَّدُ وَ شِعَارُنَا يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ يَا نَصْرَ اللَّهِ اقْتَرِبْ اقْتَرِبْ وَ شِعَارُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ يَا نَصْرَ اللَّهِ اقْتَرِبْ وَ يَوْمَ بَنِي النَّضِيرِ يَا رُوحَ الْقُدُسِ أَرِحْ وَ يَوْمَ بَنِي قَيْنُقَاعَ يَا رَبَّنَا لَا يَغْلِبَنَّكَ وَ يَوْمَ الطَّائِفِ يَا رِضْوَانُ وَ شِعَارُ يَوْمِ حُنَيْنٍ يَا بَنِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ [يَا بَنِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ‏] وَ يَوْمِ الْأَحْزَابِ حم لَا يُبْصِرُونَ وَ يَوْمِ بَنِي قُرَيْظَةَ يَا سَلَامُ أَسْلِمْهُمْ وَ يَوْمِ الْمُرَيْسِيعِ وَ هُوَ يَوْمُ بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ أَلَا إِلَى اللَّهِ الْأَمْرُ وَ يَوْمِ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ أَلَا لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ عَلَى الظَّالِمِينَ وَ يَوْمِ خَيْبَرَ يَوْمِ الْقَمُوصِ يَا عَلِيُّ آتِهِمْ مِنْ عَلُ وَ يَوْمِ الْفَتْحِ نَحْنُ عِبَادُ اللَّهِ حَقّاً حَقّاً وَ يَوْمِ تَبُوكَ يَا أَحَدُ يَا صَمَدُ وَ يَوْمِ بَنِي الْمَلُوحِ أَمِتْ أَمِتْ وَ يَوْمِ صِفِّينَ يَا نَصْرَ اللَّهِ وَ شِعَارُ الْحُسَيْنِ ع يَا مُحَمَّدُ وَ شِعَارُنَا يَا مُحَمَّدُ

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father, who from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn a bu Nasr, who from Muawiayah ibn Ammar who has said the following:

Abu Abd Allah^-asws has said that our slogan is ‘مُحَمَّدُ يَا مُحَمَّدُ يَا ‘Ya Muhammad Ya Muhammad!

On the day of Badr it was ‘يَا نَصْرَ اللَّهِ اقْتَرِبْ اقْتَرِبْ ‘‘O victory of Allah^-azwj, Come close! Come close!

The slogan of Muslims on the day of ‘Uhud’ was ‘يَا نَصْرَ اللَّهِ اقْتَرِبْ’ ‘O Victory of Allah, Come close!’

On the day of bani al-Nadir it was, ‘يَا رُوحَ الْقُدُسِ أَرِحْ’ ‘O Holy spirit bring comfort’.

On the day of banu Qaynaqa it was, ‘يَا رَبَّنَا لَا يَغْلِبَنَّكَ’ ‘O our Lord, no one is able to defeat You!

On the day of Taef it was, ‘يَا رِضْوَانُ’ ‘O Rizwan! ’

On the day of Hunayn our slogan was, ‘يَا بَنِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ [يَا بَنِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ‏]’ ‘O bani ‘Abd Allah! O bani ‘Abd Allah!’

On the day of al-Ahzab it was, ‘حم لَا يُبْصِرُونَ’ ‘Ha Mim, they cannot see!’

On the day of bani Qurayadah it was, ‘يَا سَلَامُ أَسْلِمْهُمْ’ ‘O Peace Giver, Make them surrender!’

On the day of al-Muraysi’ which is also called the day of banu al-Mustliq it was

‘أَلَا إِلَى اللَّهِ الْأَمْرُ’ ‘Is the matter not in the hands of Allah!’

On the day of al-hudaybiyah it was, ‘أَلَا لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ عَلَى الظَّالِمِينَ’ ’May Allah condemn the unjust!’

On the day of al-Khayber, also called the day of al-Qamus it was, ‘يَا عَلِيُّ آتِهِمْ مِنْ عَلُ’ ‘Ya Ali^-asws, come upon them from high!’

On the day of victory it was, ‘نَحْنُ عِبَادُ اللَّهِ حَقّاً حَقّاً’ ‘We are the servants of Allah, indeed, indeed!’

On the day of Tabuk it was, ‘يَا أَحَدُ يَا صَمَدُ’ ’O the one! O the Self-Sufficient’’

On the day of banu al Maluh it was, ‘أَمِتْ أَمِتْ’ ‘The Higher! The Higher!’

On the day of Siffin it was, ’ يَا نَصْرَ اللَّهِ’ ‘O Assistance of Allah!’

The slogan of al-Hussain^-asws was, ‘يَا مُحَمَّدُ’ ‘O Muhammad^-saww!

’Our slogan is, ‘يَا مُحَمَّدُ’ ‘Ya Muhammed^-saww!’’’*[3]

وَ مِنْهُ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ مُوسَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَسْبَاطٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنِ الصَّادِقِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ آبَائِهِ ع عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ص شِعَارُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ عَلَى الصِّرَاطِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ

Harron bin Musa reports from Muhammad bin Ali, who form Muhammad bin al-Hussain, who from Ali bin Asbat, who from Ibn Fazalay, who says:

Imam Jafar-e-Sadiq^-asws quoted from his father who from his forefathers that Prophet^-saww said: The Slogan of Muslims on the ‘Sirat’ in the Hereafter will be

‘لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ’ ‘ There is no god But Allah, On Him is the trust of the one who seeks of help’. (14:12)

In Tafseer Imam Hassan Askari^-asws (the complete Hadith is in Appendix I) a ‘Nara’ is mentioned for finding refuge from drowning, which Imam^-asws says is the ‘Nara’ of our^-asws followers.[4]

وإذا أردت أن يؤمنك بعد ذلك من الغرق والحرق والسرق فقل إذا أصبحت: ” بسم الله ما شاء الله لا يصرف السوء إلا الله ” بسم الله ” ما شاء الله لا يسوق الخير إلا الله ” بسم الله ” ما شاء الله، ما يكون من نعمة فمن الله، ” بسم الله ” ما شاء الله لا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله العلي العظيم ” بسم الله ” ما شاء الله ـ و ـ صلى الله على محمد وآله الطيبين “.

And if you wish to have safety after this from drowning or burning or robbery then say every morning ‘In the Name of Allah^-azwj, Glory be to Allah^-azwj, no one can dispel evil except Allah^-azwj, In the Name of Allah^-azwj, Glory be to Allah^-azwj there is no giving of good except by Allah^-azwj, In the Name of Allah^-azwj Glory be to Allah^-azwj there is no blessing in the universe except from Allah^-azwj, In the Name of Allah^-azwj Glory be to Allah^-azwj there is no Authority nor Power except by Allah^-azwj the High the Great, In the Name of Allah^-azwj Glory be to Allah^-azwj and salutations of Allah^-azwj on Muhammad^-saww and his Infallible Progeny^-asws.

فان من قالها ثلاثا إذا أصبح أمن من الحرق والغرق والسرق حتى يمسي. ومن قالها ثلاثا إذا أمسى أمن من الحرق والغرق والسرق حتى يصبح وإن الخضر وإلياس (عليهما السلام) يلتقيان في كل موسم، فاذا تفرقا تفرقا عن هذه الكلمات. وإن ذلك شعار شيعتي ، وبه يمتاز أعدائي من أوليائي يوم خروج قائمهم (صلى الله عليه وآله).

Whoever recites this three times every morning will be safe from drowning, burning and theft until the evening. Whoever recites this three times in the evening will be safe from drowning, burning and theft till the morning. Surely Khizr^-as and Ilyas^-as meet every season, and when they^-as disperse they^-as recite these words, and that is the ‘Nara’ of our Shiites, and through this they will be able to differentiate between their enemies and friends on the day of the appearance of the Rising One^-ajfj.

The slogan of Hajj is given in Tafseer Imam Hassan Askari[5] as:

قال ـ الله جل وجلاله ـ: قم بين يدي، واشدد مئزرك قيام العبد الذليل بين يدي السيد الملك الجليل، ففعل ذلك موسى. فنادى ـ الملك ـ ربنا عزوجل يا أمة محمد. فأجابوه كلهم، وهم في أصلاب آبائهم وأرحام امهاتهم: ” لبيك اللهم لبيك لبيك لاشريك لك لبيك إن الحمد والنعمة والملك لك لا شريك لك لبيك “. قال فجعل الله تعالى تلك الاجابة منهم شعار الحج.

Allah^-azwj Said: ‘Stand in from of Me like a disgraced servant stands before his majestic master. Musa^-as did that. The Almighty, the Majestic Lord Said: ‘O community of Muhammad^-saww, answer Me all of you!’. And they answered back from the loins of their fathers and the wombs of their mothers, ‘We are here our Allah^-azwj we are here! We are here there is no Partner with You^-azwj we are here! Surely the Praise and Goodness and Kingship is for You with no Partner we are here! The Messenger of Allah^-saww said: ‘Allah^-azwj Made this answer of theirs as part of the rites of Pilgrimage’.

ثم نادى ربنا عزوجل: يا امة محمد إن قضائي عليكم أن رحمتي سبقت غضبي، وعفوي قبل عقابي، فقد استجبت لكم من قبل أن تدعوني، وأعطيتكم من قبل أن تسألوني، من لقيني منكم بشهادة: أن لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له. وأن محمدا عبده ورسوله، صادق في أقواله، محق في أفعاله وأن علي بن أبي طالب أخوه ووصيه من بعده ووليه، يلتزم طاعته ـ كما يلتزم طاعة ـ محمد وأن أولياءه المصطفين الاخيار المطهرين المباينين بعجائب آيات الله ودلائل حجج الله من بعدهما أولياؤه، أدخلته جنتي، إن كانت ذنوبه مثل زبد البحر.

Then Allah The Majestic Announced: ‘O community of Muhammad^-saww! I^-azwj have Decreed it that for you My^-azwj Mercy will overcome My^-azwj Anger, and My^-azwj Forgiveness will overcome My^-azwj Punishment, I^-azwj Will Answer you before you even supplicate to Me^-azwj, and I^-azwj will Give you before you even ask for it. Whoever of you bears witness that there is no god but Allah^-azwj, One without any partner, and that Muhammad^-saww is His^-azwj servant and Messenger, true in his^-saww speech, true in his^-saww deeds and that Ali Ibn Abi Talib^-asws is his^-saww brother and trustee and his^-saww successor after him^-saww and has a commitment to obey him just like the obedience to Muhammad^-saww; and their children^-saww are the chosen ones, purified, are Signs of Allah^-azwj and Proofs of Allah^-azwj and are their^-asws successors after them^-asws, I shall make him enter Paradise even though his sins may be as numerous as the foam of the sea.

قال: فلما بعث الله عزوجل نبينا محمد (صلى الله عليه وآله) قال: يا محمد ” وما كنت بجانب الطور إذ نادينا ” امتك بهذه الكرامة. ثم قال عزوجل لمحمد (صلى الله عليه وآله): قل: الحمد لله رب العالمين على ما اختصني به من هذه الفضيلة. وقال لامته: ـ و ـ قولوا أنتم: الحمد لله رب العالمين على ما اختصنا به من هذه الفضائل.

He^-asws said: ‘When Allah^-azwj Sent our Prophet^-saww with Prophet hood, Allah^-azwj Said: ‘O Muhammad^-saww! ‘Were you^-saww not present at the mountain of Toor when I^-azwj made the Announcement that your community has these virtues?’ Then Allah^-azwj Said: ‘O Muhammad^-saww! ‘Say Praise be to the Lord of the worlds that He^-azwj has bestowed upon us^-asws these virtues.’ And then Allah^-azwj Said to the people: ‘And you say Praise be to the Lord of the worlds for having making known to you ‘these virtues’.’

وكان على بن موسى (عليهما السلام) بين يديه فرس صعب، وهناك راضة لا يجسر أحد منهم أن يركبه، وإن ركبه لم يجسر أن يسيره مخافة أن يشب به، فيرميه ويدوسه بحافره، وكان هناك صبي ابن سبع سنين، فقال: يا بن رسول الله أتأذن لي أن أركبه واسيره واذلله؟ قال: أنت؟! قال: نعم. قال: لماذا؟ قال: لاني قد استوثقت منه قبل أن أركبه بأن صليت على محمد وآله الطيبين الطاهرين مائة ـ مرة ـ، وجددت على نفسي الولاية لكم أهل البيت.

The Holy Imam Ali Bin Musa^-asws Al-Raza^-asws had a stubborn horse, and there was no one who could ride on it, for the fear that he might get trampled under its hooves and over there was a boy of seven years of age who said: ‘O son of the Messenger of Allah^-asws! Would you^-asws permit me to ride it and captivate it, by Allah^-azwj? He^-asws said: ‘You?’ He said: ‘Yes’. He^-asws asked: ‘Why?’ He said: ‘Before I ride on it, I shall recite the salutations on Muhammad^-saww and his^-saww goodly and Purified Progeny^-asws one hundred times and renew on my heart the friendship of the People of the Household^-asws.

قال: اركبه، فركبه، فقال: سيره. فسيره. وما زال يسيره ويعديه حتى أتعبه وكده، فنادى الفرس: يا بن رسول الله قد آلمني منذ اليوم، فاعفني منه، وإلا فصبرني تحته. ـ ف ـ قال الصبي: سل ما هو خير لك ” أن يصبرك تحت مؤمن “.

Imam^-asws said: ‘Mount it’. He mounted on it. He^-asws said: ‘Ride it’. He rode it. He did not stop riding it until the horse got tired and called out: ‘O son of the Messenger of Allah^-asws! I am tired of being made to ride by this boy, save me from him or else give me patience under him’. The boy said: ‘Ask for that which is better for you ‘To make you patient under a believer’.

قال الرضا (عليه السلام): صدق ـ فقال: ـ اللهم صبره. فلان الفرس وسار، فلما نزل الصبي قال: سل من دواب داري وعبيدها وجواربها ومن أموال خزائني ما شئت فانك مؤمن قد شهرك الله تعالى بالايمان في الدنيا.

Al-Raza^-asws said: ‘He speaks the truth. Our Lord^-azwj! Give Patience to that particular horse in its ride’. When the boy dismounted, he^-saww said to him: ‘Ask from my livestock, and servants and treasures and wealth, whatever you desire for you are a believer whom Allah^-azwj has made known with his faith in the world’.

قال الصبي: يابن رسول الله ـ صلى الله عليك وآلك ـ وأسأل ما أقترح؟ قال: يافتى اقترح، فان الله تعالى يوفقك لاقتراح الصواب. فقال: سل لي ربك التقية الحسنة، والمعرفة بحقوق الاخوان، والعمل بما أعرف من ذلك. قال الرضا (عليه السلام): قد أعطاك الله ذلك، لقد سألت أفضل شعار الصالحين ودثارهم

The boy said: ‘O son of the Messenger of Allah^-asws! Salutations are on you^-asws and your^-asws Progeny^-asws, shall I ask for whatever I want?’ He^-asws Whatever, for Allah^-azwj will Incline you to ask for good things’, He said: ‘Ask from your^-asws Lord^-azwj to Grant me good dissimulation, and understanding of the rights of the brothers, and to act according to that’. Al-Ridha^-asws said: ‘Allah^-azwj has Granted you that, for you have asked for the ‘Nara’ (slogan/custom) of the righteous ones’.

30- حدثنا محمد بن القاسم الأسترآبادي المفسر رضي الله عنه قال حدثنا يوسف بن محمد بن زياد و علي بن محمد بن سيار عن أبويهما عن الحسن بن علي بن محمد بن علي بن موسى بن جعفر بن محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن علي بن أبي طالب ع عن أبيه عن جده ع قال جاء رجل إلى الرضا ع فقال له يا ابن رسول الله أخبرني عن قول الله عز و جل الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعالَمِينَ ما تفسيره فقال لقد حدثني أبي عن جدي عن الباقر عن زين العابدين عن أبيه ع أن رجلا جاء إلى أمير المؤمنين ع فقال أخبرني عن قول الله عز و جل الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعالَمِينَ ما تفسيره فقال الحمد لله هو أن عرف عباده بعض نعمه عليهم جملا إذ لا يقدرون على معرفة جميعها بالتفصيل لأنها أكثر من أن تحصى أو تعرف فقال لهم قولوا الحمد لله على ما أنعم به علينا رب العالمين و هم الجماعات من كل مخلوق من الجمادات و الحيوانات و أما الحيوانات فهو يقلبها في قدرته و يغذوها من رزقه و يحوطها بكنفه و يدبر كلا منها بمصلحته و أما الجمادات فهو يمسكها بقدرته و يمسك المتصل منها أن يتهافت و يمسك المتهافت منها أن يتلاصق و يمسك السماء أن تقع على الأرض إلا بإذنه و يمسك الأرض أن تنخسف إلا بأمره إنه بعباده لرؤف رحيم و قال ع رب العالمين مالكهم و خالقهم و سائق أرزاقهم إليهم من حيث يعلمون و من حيث لا يعلمون فالرزق مقسوم و هو يأتي ابن آدم على أي سيرة سارها من الدنيا ليس تقوى متق بزائده و لا فجور فاجر بناقصه و بينه و بينه ستر و هو طالبه فلو أن أحدكم يفر من رزقه لطلبه رزقه كما يطلبه الموت فقال الله جل جلاله قولوا الحمد لله على ما أنعم به علينا و ذكرنا به من خير في كتب الأولين قبل أن نكون ففي هذا إيجاب على محمد و آل محمد ص و على شيعتهم أن يشكروه بما فضلهم و ذلك أن رسول الله ص قال لما بعث الله عز و جل موسى بن عمران ع و اصطفاه نجيا و فلق له البحر و نجى بني إسرائيل و أعطاه التوراة و الألواح رأى مكانه من ربه عز و جل فقال يا رب لقد أكرمتني بكرامة لم تكرم بها أحدا قبلي فقال الله جل جلاله يا موسى أ ما علمت أن محمدا عندي أفضل من جميع ملائكتي و جميع خلقي قال موسى ع يا رب فإن كان محمد ص أكرم عندك من جميع خلقك فهل في آل الأنبياء أكرم من آلي قال الله جل جلاله يا موسى أ ما علمت أن فضل آل محمد على جميع آل النبيين كفضل محمد على جميع المرسلين فقال موسى يا رب فإن كان آل محمد كذلك فهل في أمم الأنبياء أفضل عندك من أمتي ظللت عليهم الغمام و أنزلت عليهم المن و السلوى و فلقت لهم البحر فقال الله جل جلاله يا موسى أ ما علمت أن فضل أمة محمد على جميع الأمم كفضله على جميع خلقي فقال موسى ع يا رب ليتني كنت أراهم فأوحى الله عز و جل إليه يا موسى إنك لن تراهم و ليس هذا أوان ظهورهم و لكن سوف تراهم في الجنات جنات عدن و الفردوس بحضرة محمد في نعيمها يتقلبون و في خيراتها يتبحبحون أ فتحب أن أسمعك كلامهم فقال نعم إلهي قال الله جل جلاله قم بين يدي و اشدد مئزرك قيام العبد الذليل بين يدي الملك الجليل ففعل ذلك موسى ع فنادى ربنا عز و جل يا أمة محمد فأجابوه كلهم و هم في أصلاب آبائهم و أرحام أمهاتهم لبيك اللهم لبيك لبيك لا شريك لك لبيك إن الحمد و النعمة و الملك لك لا شريك لك قال فجعل الله عز و جل تلك الإجابة شعار الحاج ثم نادى ربنا عز و جل يا أمة محمد إن قضائي عليكم أن رحمتي سبقت غضبى و عفوي قبل عقابي فقد استجبت لكم من قبل أن تدعوني و أعطيتكم من قبل أن تسألوني من لقيني منكم بشهادة أن لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له و أن محمدا عبده و رسوله صادق في أقواله محق في أفعاله و أن علي بن أبي طالب أخوه و وصيه من بعده و وليه و يلتزم طاعته كما يلتزم طاعة محمد و أن أولياءه المصطفين الطاهرين المطهرين المنبئين بعجائب آيات الله و دلائل حجج الله من بعدهما أولياؤه أدخلته جنتي و إن كانت ذنوبه مثل زبد البحر قال ع فلما بعث الله عز و جل نبينا محمدا ص قال يا محمد وَ ما كُنْتَ بِجانِبِ الطُّورِ إِذْ نادَيْنا أمتك بهذه الكرامة ثم قال عز و جل لمحمد ص قل الحمد لله رب العالمين على ما اختصني به من هذه الفضيلة و قال لأمته قولوا أنتم الحمد لله رب العالمين على ما اختصنا به من هذه الفضائل

Muhammad ibn Al-Qasim al-Isterabadi – may God be pleased with him – narrated that Yusuf ibn Muhammad ibn Ziyad and Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Sayyar quoted on the authority of their fathers, on the authority Al-Hassan ibn Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Musa ibn Ja’far ibn Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Al-Hussein ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib^-asws, on the authority of his father^-asws, on the authority of his grandfather^-asws, “A man went to see Al-Raza^-asws and said, O son of the Prophet of God^-asws! Please tell me what the interpretation of the following Words of the Honorable the Exalted Allah^-azwj is, ‘Praise be to Allah^-azwj, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds.’[6] The Imam^-asws said, “My father^-asws narrated that my grandfather^-asws quoted on the authority of the Ornament of the Worshippers (Imam as-Sajjad^-asws), on the authority his father^-asws that a man went to see the Commander of the Faithful^-asws and said, ‘Please tell me what the interpretation of the following Words of the Honourable the Exalted Allah^-azwj is, ‘Praise be to Allah^-azwj, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds.’ The Commander of the Faithful^-asws replied, “‘Praise be to Allah^-azwj’ means that Allah^-azwj has made His servants recognise some of His^-azwj Blessings, since they cannot recognise all of His Blessings in detail, because they are much more than to be enumerated or recognised. Thus, He^-azwj says to them, ‘Say Praise be to Allah^-azwj for the Blessings which the Lord of the Two Worlds has bestowed upon us.’

All things consist of the created things including the animate and inanimate. He^-azwj Manages the animates with His^-azwj Power, Feeds them their sustenance, Protects them behind His^-azwj Own Shield and plans all of their affairs according to His^-azwj Own Plans. He^-azwj maintains the inanimate with His^-azwj Might. He^-azwj keeps what is held together from tearing apart and keeps what is in separate parts from collapsing into one. He^-azwj keeps the sky from falling down except with His^-azwj Own Permission, and Prevents the Earth from sinking in, except with His^-azwj Own Permission, since He^-azwj is Kind and Merciful to His servants.

The Imam^-asws continued, ‘The Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds’ means their Owner, their Creator, and the Provider of their daily sustenance through ways which they know of and ways which they do not know of. The daily sustenance is divided up. It will reach the Children of Adam no matter which way they go in this world.

One’s piety will not cause an increase in it, neither will a wicked person’s corruption cause a decrease in his share of the daily sustenance. There is a veil in between one and his share of the daily earnings, and he is running after his daily sustenace. If one tries to escape from his share of the daily earnings, it will follow him just as death does. Allah^-azwj – the Exalted the Magnificent – says, ‘Say, Praise be to Allah’ for the Blessings that He^-azwj has granted us (the Divine Leaders) and because He^-azwj has made a good mention of us^-asws (the Divine Leaders) in the Books of the past before we were even known to the world. This makes it incumbent upon Muhammad^-saww and the nation of Muhammad^-saww and their followers to praise Him^-azwj for the nobilities which Allah^-azwj has given them. That is why Allah^-azwj’s Prophet^-saww said, ‘When the Honourable the Exalted Allah^-azwj Appointed Moses^-as, the son of Imran^-as, and chose him^-as to supplicate to Him^-azwj, Allah^-azwj rent the sea asunder for him, rescued the Children of Israel, granted him^-as the Torah and the Tablets, Moses^-as saw his rank near his Lord^-azwj and said, ‘O Allah^-azwj! You^-azwj have honoured me^-as in such a way that You^-azwj have never honoured anyone else before me.’ Then Allah^-azwj said, ‘O Moses! Don’t you know that Muhammad^-saww is nobler near Me^-azwj than all My^-azwj angels and all My^-azwj creatures?’ Moses^-as said, ‘O Lord^-azwj! Now that Muhammad^-saww is nobler for You^-azwj than all Your^-azwj creatures, are there any Households among the Households of the Prophets which are nobler for You^-azwj than my Household?’ Then Allah^-azwj said, ‘O Moses! Don’t you know that Muhammad^-saww’s Household is nobler than all the Households of the Prophets^-as just as Muhammad^-sawwis nobler than all the Prophets^-as.’ Then Moses^-as said, ‘O Lord! Now that the Household of Muhammad^-saww is as such, is there any nation amongst the nations of the Prophets^-as which is nobler than my nation? You^-azwj set up the clouds as shadows for them (my nation), sent down the Manna and quails for them[7] and You rent the sea asunder for them.’ Then Allah^-azwj said, ‘O Moses^-as! Don’t you know that the nation of Muhammad^-saww is the noblest of all My^-azwj nations just as Muhammad^-saww is the noblest of all My^-azwj creatures?’

Then Moses^-as said, ‘O Lord^-azwj! I^-as wish I could see them.’ Then the Honourable the Exalted Allah^-azwj revealed to Moses^-as, ‘You will not see them. It is not the time for them to come now. But you will see them in the Garden – the Eternal Garden and Paradise. You will see them in the presence of Muhammad^-saww. They will live among its Blessings and enjoy its everlasting good. Do you want Me^-azwj to let you hear their words?’ Moses^-as said, ‘Yes, my Lord!’ Allah^-azwj said, ‘Stand in front of Me^-azwj like a debased servant standing in front of a Magnificent King and stretch out your back.’ Then Moses^-as did that. Then our Lord^-azwj called out, ‘O nation of Muhammad!’ Then all of them replied from the loins of their fathers and from the wombs of their mothers, ‘Here I am at Your service, O Lord! Here I am. There are no partners for You^-azwj. Here I am. Praise be to You^-azwj. Blessings and the Kingdom are Yours. There are no partners for You^-azwj.’[8]

Then the Imam^-asws added, “The Honourable the Exalted God established this as the slogan ‘Nara’ of the Hajj pilgrims. Then our Lord – the Honorable the Exalted said, ‘O nation of Muhammad! This is My decree for you: My Mercy has overcome My Wrath, and My Forgiveness is ahead of My Chastisement. I will accept your supplications before you call Me. I^-azwj will Grant you (something) before you ask Me^-azwj. I^-azwj will take to Paradise whichever of you who visits Me having sincerely testified and practically honoured that ‘There is no god but God; There are no partners for Him; Muhammad^-saww is His^-azwj servant and His Messenger, and Ali ibn Abi Talib^-asws is Muhammad^-saww’s brother – his Trustee and Master after him^-saww. It is obligatory to obey Ali^-asws just as it is to obey Muhammad^-saww. After the two of them (Muhammad^-saww and Ali^-asws) the Masters^-asws are the Chosen Masters^-asws, the Purified ones, the Cleansed ones, the ones who will inform (the people) about the miracles of God and express the Proofs of God’, even if his sins are as much as the foam on the sea.”

Then the Imam^-asws added, “When the Honourable the Exalted God appointed Muhammad^-saww to the Prophethood, He said, O Muhammad^-saww! ‘Nor wast thou at the side of (the Mountain of) Tur when we called (to Moses^-as)…’[9] that is, We^-azwj called your (Muhammad^-saww) nation with this honour. Then the Honourable the Exalted God told Muhammad^-saww, ‘Say, ‘Praise be to Allah^-azwj, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds’[10] for this nobility which was granted especially to me.”[11]

Appendix I

اللَّهُ وَ عَلَى‏تفسيرالإمام‏العسكري 19 [سد الأبواب عن المسجد دون باب علي ع‏

ألا انبئكم ببعض أخبارنا؟ قالوا: بلى يابن أمير المؤمنين. قال: إن رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) لما بنى مسجده بالمدينة وأشرع فيه بابه، وأشرع المهاجرون والانصار (أبوابهم) أراد الله عزوجل إبانة محمد وآله الافضلين بالفضيلة، فنزل جبرئيل (عليه السلام) عن الله تعالى بأن سدوا الابواب عن مسجد رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) قبل أن ينزل بكم العذاب.

The Holy Imam Hassan Al Askari^-asws asked: ‘Shall I tell you some of our Hadeeth?’ I said: ‘Yes, O Son of the Commander of the Faithful^-asws.’ Imam^-asws related: ‘Surely when the Messenger of Allah^-saww had built the Mosque of Medina, had his door facing the Mosque, and so did the Emigrants and the Helpers had their doors facing the Mosque as well. Allah^-azwj Willed to Extol the virtues of Muhammad^-saww and his Family^-asws, and so Jibraeel^-as descended from Allah^-azwj with the Order for them to close their doors to the Mosque before the Punishment descends upon them.’

فأول من بعث إليه رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) يأمره بسد الابواب العباس بن عبدالمطلب فقال: سمعا وطاعة لله ولرسوله، وكان الرسول معاذ بن جبل.

The first message for the closing of the door was sent to Abbas Al Muttalib who responded: ‘I have heard and obeyed Allah^-azwj and His Messenger^-saww ‘ – to the messenger Ma’az Bin Jabal^-la.

ثم مر العباس بفاطمة (عليها السلام) فرآها قاعدة على بابها، وقد أقعدت الحسن والحسين (عليهما السلام)، فقال لها: ما بالك قاعدة؟ انظروا إليها كأنها لبوة بين يديها جرواها تظن أن رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) يخرج عمه، ويدخل ابن عمه. فمر بهم رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) فقال لها: ما بالك قاعدة؟ قالت: أنتظر أمر رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) بسد الابواب. فقال لها: إن الله تعالى أمرهم بسد الابواب، واستثنى منهم رسوله ـ إنما ـ أنتم نفس رسول الله

Then Abbas passed by Fatima^-asws who was sitting by her^-asws door along with Hassan^-asws and Husayn^-asws. He said to her^-asws: ‘How come you are sitting here like a lioness sits with her cubs in her arms. Are you presuming that the Messenger of Allah^-saww has thrown out his^-saww own uncle but will keep the son of his unlce?’ The Messenger of Allah^-saww then passed by them and said to Syeda^-asws: ‘Why are you sitting here?’ She^-asws replied: ‘I am waiting for the order of the Messenger of Allah^-saww for the closing of the door.’ He^-saww said to her^-asws Surely Allah^-azwj has Ordered them to close their doors, but excluded His Messenger^-saww, and surely you^-asws are the soul of the Messenger of Allah^-saww.

ثم إن عمر بن الخطاب جاء فقال: إني أحب النظر إليك يا رسول الله إذا مررت إلى مصلاك، فاذن لي في فرجة أنظر إليك منها؟ فقال (صلى الله عليه وآله): قد أبي الله عزوجل ذلك. قال: فمقدار ما أضع عليه وجهي. قال: قد أبى الله ذلك. قال: فمقدار ما أضع ـ عليه ـ إحدى عيني. قال: قد أبى الله ذلك، ولو قلت: قدر طرف إبرة لم آذن لك، والذي نفسي بيده ما أنا أخرجتكم ولا أدخلتهم، ولكن الله أدخلهم وأخرجكم. ثم قال (صلى الله عليه وآله): لا ينبغي لاحد يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر أن يبيت في هذا المسجد جنبا إلا محمد وعلي وفاطمة والحسن والحسين والمنتجبون من آلهم، الطيبون من أولادهم

Then Umar Bin Khattab^-la passed by and said: ‘I love to look at you O Messenger of Allah^-saww when you Pray, can you give me the permission to keep an opening in my door from which I can look at you?’ Prophet^-saww said: ‘Allah^-azwj does not allow that’. He insisted: ‘Just enough for me to keep my face on it.’ He^-saww replied: ‘Allah^-azwj does not Permit that’. Then he said: ‘What about a small hole just for my eye:’ He^-saww replied: ‘Allah^-azwj does not allow that either. Even if you were to ask for a hole as small as the needle, you will not be allowed, but by the One in whose Hand is my soul, I have not thrown you out nor have I allowed them^-asws to be in, but it was Allah^-azwj who allowed them^-asws to be in and thrown you out.’ Then he^-saww said: ‘It is not permissible for anyone who believes in Allah^-azwj and the Last Day that he should spend the night in the Mosque whilst in need of obligatory ablution except for Syeda Fatima^-asws and Hassan^-asws and Husayn^-asws and the chosen from among their progeny, the pure from among their children.’

. قال (عليه السلام): فأما المؤمنون فقد رضوا وسلموا، وأما المنافقون فاغتاظوا لذلك وأنفوا، ومشى بعضهم إلى بعض يقولون ـ فيما بينهم ـ: ألا ترون محمدا لا يزال يخص بالفضائل ابن عمه ليخرجنا منها صفرا؟ والله لئن أنفذنا له في حياته لنأبين عليه بعد وفاته! وجعل عبدالله بن أبي يصغي إلى مقالتهم، ويغضب تارة، ويسكن أخرى ويقول لهم: إن محمدا (صلى الله عليه وآله) لمتأله، فاياكم ومكاشفته، فان من كاشف المتأله انقلب خاسئا حسيرا، وينغص عليه عيشه وإن الفطن اللبيب من تجرع على الغصة لينتهز الفرصة. فبيناهم كذلك إذ طلع ـ علهيم ـ رجل من المؤمنين يقال له زيد بن أرقم، فقال لهم: يا أعداء الله أبالله تكذبون، وعلى رسوله تطعنون ودينه تكيدون؟ والله لاخبرن رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) بكم. فقال عبدالله بن أبي والجماعة: والله لئن أخبرته بنا لنكذ بنك، ولنحلفن ـ له ـ فانه إذا يصد قنا، ثم والله لنقيمن عليك من يشهد عليك عنده بما يوجب قتلك أو قطعك أو حدك.

He^-asws said: ‘The believers were happy with this and accepted it, but the hypocrites were enraged with this and some of them said to some, among themselves, ‘Did you see how Muhammad^-saww has not diminished the virtues of the son of his uncle and left us out with nothing? By Allah^-azwj! If we were to obey him during his^-saww lifetime, then we will turn against him after his^-saww death. Abdullah Bin Abi used to listen to their conversations and used to get angry and would control his anger sometimes and used to say to them: ‘Surely, Muhammad^-saww is an obedient worshipper, so beware of opposing him! For whoever opposes an obedient worshipper, his heart would be frustrated and life would become a plague for him. The man of intellect is the one who swallows his anger and waits for the opportunity. A man from the believers, Zayd Bin Arqam said to them: ‘O servants of Allah^-azwj! Are you falsifying Allah^-azwj, and accusing His Messenger^-saww and sitting back from His religion? By Allah^-azwj! I shall inform the Messenger of Allah^-saww about your state’. Abdullah Bin Abi and his group answered back: ‘If you were to do that (to tell it to Prophet^-saww) then we will deny you and falsify you in such a way that he^-saww will agree with us and you will probably end up with an order of execution against you or for the cutting off your limbs or other capital punishment.’

ـ قال (عليه السلام): ـ فأتى زيد رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) فأسر إليه ما كان من عبدالله بن أبي وأصحابه فأنزل الله عزوجل: (ولا تطع الكافرين) المجاهرين لك يا محمد فيما دعوتهم إليه من الايمان بالله، والموالاة لك ولاوليائك والمعاداة لاعدائك. (والمنافقين) الذين يطيعونك في الظاهر، ويخالفونك في الباطن (ودع أذاهم) بما يكون منهم من القول السئ فيك وفي ذويك (وتوكل على الله) في إتمام أمرك وإقامة حجتك. فان المؤمن هو الظاهر ـ بالحجة ـ وإن غلب في الدنيا، لان العاقبة له لان غرض المؤمنين في كدحهم في الدنيا إنما هو الوصول إلى نعيم الابد في الجنة، وذلك حاصل لك ولآلك ولاصحابك وشيعتهم.

He^-asws said: ‘Zayd Bin Arqam went and related the whole incident to the Messenger of Allah^-saww about Abdullah Bin Abi and his group. Immediately, Allah^-azwj sent down the Verse (Do not follow the disbelievers). You have spoken O Muhammad^-saww, and invited them to faith in Allah^-azwj and befriend you^-saww and your friends and be inimical to your enemies. They obey you whilst in front of you but go against you behind your back, so do not pay attention to their bad words and rely on Allah^-azwj in all your affairs and present your proofs, for the believer is one who obeys you even though he may be subdued in the world, for he is desirous of the hereafter and its everlasting bounties and this achievement is for your progeny^-asws, your companions^-ra and your Shiites.

ثم ان رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) لم يلتفت إلى ما بلغه عنهم، وأمر زيدا فقال ـ له ـ: إن أردت أن لا يصيبك شرهم ولا ينالك مكرهم فقل إذا أصبحت: ” أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم ” فان الله يعيذك من شرهم، فانهم شياطين يوحي بعضهم إلى بعض زخرف القول غرورا.

Then the Messenger of Allah^-saww did not pay any attention to what those people had said. He^-saww ordered Zayd and told him: ‘If you do not want to be troubled by their mischief and plots then recite every morning ‘I seek refuge with Allah^-azwj from the Castaway Satan’, then immediately Allah^-azwj will give you refuge from their mischief, for these are Satans who inspire each other with their delusional speech.

Whoever recites this three times every morning will be safe from drowning, burning and theft until the evening. Whoever recites this three times in the evening will be safe from drowning, burning and theft till the morning. Surely Khizr^-as and Ilyas^-as meet every season, and when they^-as disperse they^-as recite these words, and that is the conduct of our Shiites, and through this they will be able to differentiate between their enemies and friends on the day of the appearance of the Rising One^-ajfj.

قال الباقر (عليه السلام): لما أمر العباس بسد الابواب، وأذن لعلي (عليه السلام) في ترك بابه جاء العباس وغيره من آل محمد (صلى الله عليه وآله) فقالوا: يا رسول الله ما بال علي يدخل ويخرج؟ فقال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): ذلك إلى الله فسلموا له تعالى حكمه، هذا جبرئيل جاءني عن الله عزوجل بذلك. ثم أخذه ما كان يأخذه إذا نزل عليه الوحي ثم سرى عنه فقال: يا عباس يا عم رسول الله إن جبرئيل يخبرني عن الله جل جلاله أن عليا لم يفارقك في وحدتك، وأنسك في وحشتك، فلا تفارقه في مسجدك لو رأيت عليا ـ وهو يتضور على فراش محمد (صلى الله عليه وآله) واقيا روحه بروحه، متعرضا لاعدائه، مستسلما لهم أن يقتلوه شر قتلة ـ لعلمت أنه يستحق من محمد الكرامة والتفضيل، ومن الله تعالى التعظيم والتبجيل – إن عليا قد انفرد عن الخلق في البيتوتة على فراش محمد ووقاية روحه بروحه فأفرده الله تعالى دونهم بسلو كه في مسجده ـ لو رأيت عليا ـ يا عم رسول الله ـ وعظيم منزلته عند رب العالمين، وشريف محله عند ملائكته المقربين، وعظيم شأنه في أعلى عليين لاستقللت ما تراه له ههنا. إياك يا عم رسول الله وأن تجد له في قلبك مكروها فتصير كأخيك أبي لهب فانكما شقيقان. يا عم رسول الله لو أبغض عليا أهل السماوات والارضين لاهلكهم الله ببغضه، ولو أحبه الكفار أجمعون لاثابهم الله عن محبته بالخاتمة المحمودة بأن يوفقهم للايمان ثم يدخلهم الجنة برحمته.يا عم رسول الله إن شأن علي عظيم، إن حال علي جليل، إن وزن علي ثقيل ـ و ـ ما وضع حب علي في ميزان أحد إلا رجح على سيئاته، ولا وضع بغضه في ميزان أحد إلا رجح على حسناته.

The Holy Imam Al Baqir^-asws said: ‘When Abbas received the Order of the closure of the doors and the permission for Ali^-asws to leave his^-asws door open, he and other relatives came and said: ‘O Messenger^-saww! How come Ali^-asws has entered and we have been left out?’ The Messenger of Allah^-saww said: ‘That is for you to submit to Allah^-azwj‘s Order. Jibraeel^-as came to me from Allah^-azwj via this door.’ Then he^-saww was overcome with the condition that was normal during receipt of revelation and when he^-saww was free from it he^-saww said: ‘O Abbas! O Uncle of the Messenger of Allah^-saww! Jibraeel^-as has informed me^-saww that do not keep Ali^-asws (a.s.) away from the Mosque for he is your helper. Had you seen him^-asws when he slept in the bed of Muhammad^-saww and was fighting against My enemies, as his soul is my soul and he was happy that your enemies wanted to kill him, now you will understand that he^-asws is deserving of favours and preferential treatment from Muhammad^-saww and veneration and reverence from Allah^-azwj. Surely Ali^-asws was alone from the creation to be on the bed of Muhammad^-saww and fighting soul for soul, therefore Allah^-azwj Chose him^-asws alone for this honour in the mosque. If you could have only seen, O Uncle of the Messenger of Allah^-saww! His^-asws elevated status with the Lord of the Worlds, and honour among the Angels of proximity, and his glory among the high ones. Beware! O Uncle of the Messenger of Allah^-saww if you were to keep in your heart any plan like your brother Abu Lahab since you are two brothers. O Uncle of the Messenger of Allah^-saww! If there was hatred of Ali^-asws among the inhabitants of the heavens and the inhabitants of the earth, Allah^-azwj would have destroyed them for this hatred of theirs.

If all the unbelievers were to love Ali^-azwj then Allah^-azwj would give then a good ending, give them faith and enter them all into Paradise by His^-azwj Mercy. O Uncle of the Messenger of Allah^-saww! The glory of Ali^-asws is great, his^-asws condition is glorious, his^-asws weight is heavy. When this love for Ali^-asws is placed on the scale it will outweigh the sins of the sinner, and if the hatred of Ali^-asws is placed on the scale it will outweigh the good deeds of any person’.

فقال العباس: قد سلمت ورضيت يا رسول الله. فقال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): يا عم انظر إلى السماء. فنظر العباس، فقال: ماذا ترى يا عباس؟ فقال: أرى شمسا طالعة نقية من سماء صافية جلية. فقال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): يا عم رسول الله إن حسن تسليمك لما وهب الله عزوجل لعلي ـ من ـ الفضيلة أحسن من هذه الشمس في ـ هذه ـ السماء، وعظم بركة هذا التسليم عليك أعظم وأكثر من عظم بركة هذه الشمس على النبات والحبوب والثمار حيث تنضجها وتنميها ـ وتربيها ـ، واعلم أنه قد صافاك بتسليمك لعلي قبيلة من الملائكة المقربين أكثر عددا من قطر المطر وورق الشجر ورمل عالج، وعدد شعور الحيوانات وأصناف النباتات، وعدد خطى بني آدم وأنفاسهم وألفاظهم وألحاظهم كل يقولون: اللهم صل على العباس عم نبيك في تسليمه لنبيك فضل أخيه علي. فاحمد الله واشكره، فلقد عظم ربحك، وجلت رتبتك في ملكوت السماوات

Abbas said: ‘I submit to this and am happy with it, O! Messenger of Allah^-saww. The Messenger of Allah^-saww said: ‘O Uncle! Look towards the sky.’ Abbas looked. He^-saww said: ‘What do you see O Abbas?’ He replied: ‘I am witnessing a clear sun rising in a clear sky.’ The Messenger of Allah^-saww said: ‘O Uncle of the Messenger of Allah^-saww! Your submission to the love for Ali^-asws by Allah^-azwj is better than this Sun in this sky, and the great blessing of this submission is more than the blessings of this sun for the vegetation and fruits which heats them and makes them grow and takes care of them; and know that for your submission to Ali^-asws a group of Angels of proximity whose number exceeds that of rain drops which fall and the leaves of the trees and the grains of sand in the desert, hair of the animals and the types of vegetation and the number of steps of the children of Adam^-as and their breaths and their words and their sights are all saying ‘Salutations to be on Abbas, the Uncle of the Prophet^-saww for his acceptance of the virtues of his^-saww brother Ali^-asws. I Praise Allah^-azwj and thank Him^-azwj for giving you a great status and take it to the angels of the heavens.’
