Prophets and their successors

Summary:

We learn from Ahadith that Allah-azwj Sent down 124,000 Prophets-as, out of which 313 were Mursil (given Divine Parchments). From among the Mursil Prophets-as, are the 5 Ul Al-Azm Prophets-as who are the Chiefs-as of all Prophets-as. And the Chief-saww of the Ul Al-Azm Prophets-as is Prophet Mohammed-saww, the last Prophet.[1] The topics of Mursil Prophets-as and Ul Al-Azm Prophets-as are covered, respectively, elsewhere:

Some Prophets-as, not all from the 124,000, along with their-as successors-as, are mentioned in the Quran and referred to in the Ahadith interpreting the Holy Verses. Below, we present a few Ahadith, which emphasis that the Prophethood has stayed in the pious linages as well as their-as successors-as. The Mursil (313) and Ul Al-Azm (5) Prophets-as:

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى الْخَثْعَمِيِّ عَنْ هِشَامٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ سَادَةُ النَّبِيِّينَ وَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ خَمْسَةٌ وَ هُمْ أُولُو الْعَزْمِ مِنَ الرُّسُلِ وَ عَلَيْهِمْ دَارَتِ الرَّحَى نُوحٌ وَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ وَ مُوسَى وَ عِيسَى وَ مُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ وَ عَلَى جَمِيعِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ

A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Muhammad Bin Yahya Al Kash’amy, from Hisham, from Ibn Abu Yafour who said,

‘I heard Abu Abdullah-asws saying, ‘The chiefs of the Prophets-as and the Mursils-as are five, and they-as are the Determined Ones (Ul Al-Azm) from the Rasools-as, and upon them-asws is the pole of the grind-mill (the central role) – Noah-as, and Ibrahim-as, and Musa-as, and Isa-as, and Muhammad-saww, may Salawat be upon them-as and upon the entirety of the Prophets-as’.[2]

مع، معاني الأخبار ل، الخصال عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَسْوَارِيُ‏ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَفْصٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَسَدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْبَصْرِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ جَرِيحٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ عُتْبَةَ اللَّيْثِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ قَالَ: قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَمِ النَّبِيُّونَ قَالَ مِائَةُ أَلْفٍ وَ أَرْبَعَةٌ وَ عِشْرُونَ أَلْفَ نَبِيٍّ قُلْتُ كَمِ الْمُرْسَلُونَ مِنْهُمْ قَالَ ثَلَاثُ مِائَةٍ وَ ثَلَاثَةَ عَشَرَ جَمّاً غَفِيراً

Ali Bin Abdullah Al Aswary, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Qays, from Amro Bin Hafs, from Abdullah Bin Muhammad Bin Asad, from Al Husayn Ibrahim, from Yahya Bin Saeed Al Basry, from Ibn Jareeh, from Ata’a, from Utba Al Lays,

‘From Abu Zarr-ra having said, ‘I-ra said, ‘O Rasool-Allah-saww! How many were the Prophets-as?’ He-saww said: ‘One hundred and twenty-four thousand (1,24000) Prophets-as’. I-ra said, ‘How many were the Mursils-as (Messengers) from them-as?’ He-saww said: ‘Three hundred and thirteen (313), being a large number’.

قُلْتُ مَنْ كَانَ أَوَّلَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ قَالَ آدَمُ قُلْتُ وَ كَانَ مِنَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ مُرْسَلًا قَالَ نَعَمْ خَلَقَهُ اللَّهُ بِيَدِهِ وَ نَفَخَ فِيهِ مِنْ رُوحِهِ

I-ra said, ‘Who was the first of the Prophets-as?’ He-saww said: ‘Adam-as’. I-ra said, ‘And was he‑saww from the Messenger Prophets-as?’ He-saww said: ‘Yes. Allah-azwj Created him-as by His-azwj Hands and Blew into him-as from His-azwj Spirit’.

ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ أَرْبَعَةٌ مِنَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ سُرْيَانِيُّونَ آدَمُ وَ شَيْثٌ وَ أَخْنُوخُ وَ هُوَ إِدْرِيسُ وَ هُوَ أَوَّلُ مَنْ خَطَّ بِالْقَلَمِ وَ نُوحٌ- وَ أَرْبَعَةٌ مِنَ الْعَرَبِ هُودٌ وَ صَالِحٌ وَ شُعَيْبٌ وَ نَبِيُّكَ مُحَمَّدٌ ص وَ أَوَّلُ نَبِيٍّ مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ مُوسَى وَ آخِرُهُمْ عِيسَى وَ سِتُّمِائَةِ نَبِيٍّ

Then he-saww said: ‘O Abu Zarr-ra! Four of the Prophets-as were Assyrian – Adam-as, and Shees‑as, and Ahnoukh-as and he-as is Idrees-as and he-as is the first one to write with the pen. And four from the Arabs – Hud-as, and Salih-as, and Shuab-as and your-ra Prophet-saww Muhammad-saww. And the first Prophet-as from the Children of Israel was Musa-as, and the last of them-as was Isa-as, and six hundred Prophets-as’.

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ‏ اللَّهِ‏ كَمْ‏ أَنْزَلَ‏ اللَّهُ‏ تَعَالَى‏ مِنْ‏ كِتَابٍ‏ قَالَ مِائَةَ كِتَابٍ وَ أَرْبَعَةَ كُتُبٍ أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَلَى شَيْثٍ ع خَمْسِينَ صَحِيفَةً وَ عَلَى إِدْرِيسَ ثَلَاثِينَ صَحِيفَةً وَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ عِشْرِينَ صَحِيفَةً وَ أَنْزَلَ التَّوْرَاةَ وَ الْإِنْجِيلَ وَ الزَّبُورَ وَ الْفُرْقَانَ

I-ra said, ‘O Rasool-Allah-saww! How many Books did Allah-azwj Reveal?’ He-saww said: ‘One hundred and four Books (104)– Allah-azwj the Exalted Revealed fifty (50) Parchment unto Shees-as, and thirty (30) Parchments unto Idrees-as, and twenty (20) Parchments unto Ibrahim‑as, and He-azwj Revealed the Torah, and the Evangel, and the Psalms, and the Furqan’’.[3]

The Prophets-as and successors-as:

ابن المتوكل، عن الحميري، عن ابن عيسى، عن الحسن بن محبوب، عن مقاتل بن سليمان، عن أبي عبد الله الصادق عليه السلام قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: أنا سيد النبيين، ووصيي سيد الوصيين، وأوصيائي سادات الاوصياء،

Ibn Al Mutawakkal, from Al Himeyri, from Ibn Isa, from Al Hassan Bin Mahboub, from Maqatal Bin Suleyman,

‘From Abu Abdullah Al-Sadiq-asws having said: ‘Rasool-Allah-saww said: ‘I-saww am the Chief of the Prophets-as, and my-saww successor-asws is the Chief of the successors-as, and my-saww successors-asws are the Chiefs of the successors-as.

إن آدم عليه السلام سأل الله عزو جل أن يجعل له وصيا صالحا، فأوحى الله عزوجل إليه أني أكرمت الانبياء بالنبوة، ثم اخترت خلقي وجعلت خيارهم الاوصياء،

Adam-as asked Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic to Make a righteous successor-as to be for him-as, so Allah‑azwj Mighty and Majestic Revealed to him-as: “I-azwj Honoured the Prophets-as with the Prophet-hood, then I-azwj Selected My-azwj creatures and Made the best of them as the successors-as”.

ثم أوحى الله عزوجل إليه يا آدم أوص إلى شيث عليه السلام فأوصى آدم عليه السلام إلى شيث عليه السلام وهو هبة الله بن آدم، وأوصى شيث عليه السلام إلى ابنه شبان وهو ابن نزلة الحوراء التي أنزلها الله على آدم من الجنة فزوجها ابنه شيثا،

Then Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Revealed to him-as: “O Adam-as! Bequeath to Shees-as”. So, Adam-as bequeathed to Shees-as, and he-as is (called) Hibtullah-as Bin Adam-as, and Shees-as bequeathed to his-as son-as Shaban-as and he-as of the descended Houried whom Allah-azwj Sent down unto Adam-as from the Paradise, and he-as got his-as son-as to be married to her.

وأوصى شبان إلى محلث ، وأوصى محلث إلى محوق وأوصى محوق إلى عميشا ، وأوصى عميشا إلى اخنوخ وهو إدريس النبي عليه السلام، وأوصى إدريس عليه السلام إلى ناحور، ودفعها ناحور إلى نوح النبي عليه السلام، وأوصى نوح إلى سام، وأوصى سام إلى عثامر، وأوصى عثامر إلى برعيثاشا

And Shaban-as bequeathed to Mahlas-as, and Mahlas-as bequeathed to Mahouq-as, and Mahouq bequeathed to Ameysha-as, and Ameysha-as bequeathed to Akhnoukh-as, and he-as is the Prophet Idrees-as, and Idrees-as bequeathed to Nahour-as, and Nahour-as handed it over to Noah-as, and Noah-as bequeathed to Saam-as, and Saam-as bequeathed to Asaamir-as, and Asaamir-as bequeathed to Baraysasha-as.

وأوصى برعيثاشا إلى يافث، وأوصى يافث إلى برة، وأوصى برة إلى جفيسة ، وأوصى جفيسة إلى عمران، ودفعها عمران إلى إبراهيم الخليل عليه السلام، وأوصى إبراهيم عليه السلام إلى ابنه إسماعيل عليه السلام، وأوصى إسماعيل إلى إسحاق عليه السلام، وأوصى إسحاق إلى يعقوب عليه السلام، وأوصى يعقوب عليه السلام إلى يوسف عليه السلام، وأوصى يوسف عليه السلام إلى بثريا، وأوصى بثريا إلى شعيب عليه السلام

And Baraysasha-as bequeathed to Yafas-as, and Yafas-as bequeathed to Barah-as, and Barah-as bequeathed to Jafeysa-as, and Jafeysa-as bequeathed to Imran-as, and Imran-as handed over to Ibrahim-as the Friend (of the Beneficent), and Ibrahim-as bequeathed to his-as son-as Ismail-as, and Ismail-as bequeathed to Is’haq-as, and Is’haq-as bequeathed to Yaqoub-as, and Yaqoub-as bequeathed to Yusuf-as, and Yusuf-as bequeathed to Basreya-as, and Basreya-as bequeathed to Shuayb-as.

ودفعها شعيب إلى موسى بن عمران، وأوصى موسى بن عمران إلى يوشع بن نون، وأوصى يوشع بن نون إلى داود عليه السلام، وأوصى داود عليه السلام إلى سليمان عليه السلام وأوصى سليمان عليه السلام إلى آصف بن برخيا، وأوصى آصف بن برخيا إلى زكريا عليه السلام، ودفعها زكريا إلى عيسى بن مريم عليه السلام، وأوصى عيسى عليه السلام إلى شمعون بن حمون الصفا عليه السلام، وأوصى شمعون عليه السلام إلى يحيى بن زكريا عليه السلام وأوصى يحيى بن زكريا إلى منذر، وأوصى منذر إلى سليمة ، وأوصى سليمة إلى بردة ،

And Shuayb-as handed over to Musa-as Bin Imran-as, and Musa-as Bin Imran-as bequeathed to Yoshua-as Bin Noon-as, and Yoshua-as Bin Noon-as bequeathed to Dawood-as, and Dawood-as bequeathed to Suleyman-as, and Suleyman-as bequeathed to Aasif-as Bin Barkhiya-as, and Aasif-as Bin Barkhiya-as bequeathed to Zakariyya-as, and Zakariyya-as handed over to Isa-as Bin Maryam-as, and Isa-as Bin Maryam-as bequeathed to Shamoun Bin Hmoun Al-Safa-as, and Shamoun-as bequeathed to Yahya-as Bin Zakariyya-as, and Yahya-as Bin Zakariyya-as bequeathed to Manzar-as, and Manzar-as bequeathed to Saleema-as, and Saleema-as bequeathed to Baradah’.

ثم قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: ودفعها إلي بردة، وأنا أدفعها إليك يا علي، وأنت تدفعها إلى وصيك، ويدفعها وصيك إلى أوصيائك من ولدك، واحد بعد واحد حتى يدفع إلى خير أهل الارض بعدك، ولتكفرن بك الامة ولتختلفن عليك اختلافا شديدا، الثابت عليك كالمقيم معي، والشاذ عنك في النار، والنار مثوى للكافرين

Then Rasool-Allah-saww said: ‘And Baradah-as handed over to me-saww, and I-saww am handing it over to you-asws, O Ali-asws, and you-asws should hand it over to your-asws successor-asws, and your-asws successor-asws should hand it over to your-asws successors-asws from your-asws sons-asws, and one after one until it is handed over to the best of the people of the earth after you-asws; and the community will disbelieve in you-asws and will be differing upon you-asws with severe differing. The one who is steadfast upon you-asws is like the one standing with me-saww, and the one deviating from you-asws would be in the Fire, and the Fire is the abode for the Kafirs’’.[4]

Allah-azwj. There was no one with her when I kept it with her’’.[5]

ابن الوليد، عن محمد العطار، عن ابن أبان، عن ابن اورمة، عن محمد بن علي الكوفي، عن البزنطي، عن أبان، عن إسماعيل الجعفي، عن أبي جعفر عليه السلام قال: اولو العزم من الرسل خمسة: نوح، وإبراهيم، وموسى، وعيسى، ومحمد صلى الله عليهم أجمعين

Ibn Al Waleed, from Muhammad Al Attar, from Ibn Aban, from Ibn Awrama, from Muhammad Bin Ali Al Kufy, from Al Bazanty, from Aban, from Ismail Al Jufy,

‘From Abu Ja’far-asws having said: ‘The Determined ones (Ul Al-Azm) from the Rasools-as are five – Noah-as, and Ibrahim-as, and Musa-as, and Isa-as and Muhammad-saww, may the Salawat of Allah-azwj ben upon them-as all’’.[6]

27 – البرسي في مشارق الأنوار، عن علي بن عاصم الكوفي قال: دخلت على أبي محمد العسكري عليه السلام فقال لي: يا علي انظر إلى ما تحت قدميك فإنك على بساط قد جلس عليه كثير من النبيين والمرسلين والأئمة الراشدين،

Al Barsy in (the book) ‘Masharik Al Anwaar’, from Ali Bin Aasim Al Kufy who said,

‘I went to Abu Muhammad Al-Askari-asws and he-asws said to me: ‘Look at what is under your feet, for you are upon a rug upon which have sat a lot of the Prophets-as and the Messengers-as, and the rightly guiding Imams-asws’.

ثم قال: ادن مني فدنوت منه، فمسح يده على وجهي فصرت بصيرا “، قال: فرأيت في البساط أقداما ” وصورا “، فقال: هذا أثر قدم آدم عليه السلام وموضع جلوسه، وهذا أثر هابيل، وهذا أثر شيث، وهذا أثر نوح، وهذا أثر قيدار، وهذا أثر مهلائيل، وهذا أثر يارة، وهذا أثر خنوح وهذا أثر إدريس،

Then he-asws said: ‘Come near me-asws’. So, I went closer to him-asws. He-asws wiped his-asws hand upon my face and I became insightful. I saw in the rug, feet (footprints), and an image. He-asws said: ‘This is an impact of a foot of Adam-as and place of his-as seating, and this is a trace of Habeel-as, and this is a trace of Shees-as, and this is a trace of Noah-as, and this is a trace of Qaydar-as, and this is a trace of Mahlayeel-as, and this is a trace of Yarah-as, and this is a trace of Khanouh-as, and this is a trace of Idrees-as.

وهذا أثر متوشلخ وهذا أثر سام، وهذا أثر أرفخشد، وهذا أثر هود، وهذا اثر صالح، وهذا أثر لقمان، وهذا أثر إبراهيم، وهذا أثر لوط، وهذا أثر إسماعيل وهذا أثر إلياس، وهذا أثر إسحاق، وهذا أثر يعقوب، وهذا أثر يوسف، وهذا أثر شعيب

And this is a trace of Matushalkh-as, and this is a trace of Saam-as, and this is an effect of Arfakhshad-as, and this is a trace of Hud-as, and this is a trace of Salih-as, and this is a trace of Luqman-as, and this is a trace of Ibrahim-as, and this is a trace of Lut-as, and this is a trace of Ismail-as, and this is a trace of Ilyas-as, and this is a trace of Is’haq, and this is a trace of Yaqoub, and this is a trace of Yusuf-as, and this is a trace of Shuayb-as.

وهذا أثر موسى، وهذا أثر يوشع بن نون، وهذا أثر طالوت، وهذا أثر داود، وهذا أثر سليمان، وهذا أثر الخضر، وهذا أثر دانيال، وهذا أثر اليسع، وهذا أثر ذي القرنين الإسكندر، وهذا أثر شابور بن أردشير، وهذا أثر لوي، وهذا أثر كلاب،

And this is a trace of Musa-as, and this is a trace of Yoshua Bin Noun-as, and this is a trace of Talut-as, and this is a trace of Dawood-as, and this is a trace of Suleyman-as, and this is a trace of Al Khizr, and this is a trace of Daniyal-as, and this is a trace of Al Yas’a, and this is a trace of Zul Qarnayn Al Askandar-as, and this is a trace of Shabour Bin Ardasheer-as, and this is a trace of Lawy-as, and this is a trace of Kalaab-as.

وهذا أثر قصي، وهذا أثر عدنان، وهذا أثر عبد مناف، وهذا أثر عبد المطلب، وهذا أثر عبد الله وهذا أثر سيدنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وهذا أثر أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام، وهذا أثر الأوصياء من بعده إلى المهدي عليهم السلام لانه قد وطئ وجلس عليه،

And this is a trace of Qasay-as, and this is a trace of Adnan-as, and this is a trace of Abd Manaf-as, and this is a trace of Abdul Muttalib-as, and this is a trace of Abdullah-as, and this is a trace of our Chief Rasool-Allah-saww, and this is a trace of Amir Al-Momineen-asws, and this is a trace of the successors-asws from after him-asws up to Al-Mahdi-asws, because he-asws has trodden and sat upon it’.

ثم قال: انظر إلى الآثار، و أعلم أنها آثار دين الله، وأن الشاك فيهم كالشاك في الله، ومن جحد فيهم كمن جحد الله

Then he-asws said: ‘Look into the impacts and know that these are the traces of the Religion of Allah-azwj, and that the doubter in these is like the doubter in Allah-azwj, and one who rejects these is like the one who rejects Allah-azwj’.

ثم قال: اخفض طرفك يا علي، فرجعت محجوبا ” كما كنت

Then he-asws said: ‘Lower your eyelids, O Ali’. I returned as veiled as I used to be’’.[7]

أبي، عن سعد، عن ابن عيسى، عن علي بن الحكم، عن المفضل بن صالح، عن جابر بن يزيد، عن أبي جعفر عليه السلام في قوله الله عزوجل: ” ولقد عهدنا إلى آدم من قبل فنسي ولم نجد له عزما ” ” قال: عهد إليه في محمد والأئمة من بعده فترك، ولم يكن له عزم فيهم أنهم هكذا، وإنما سمي اولوا العزم لأنهم عهد إليهم في محمد و الأوصياء من بعده والمهدي وسيرته فأجمع عزمهم أن ذلك كذلك والإقرار به

My father, from Sa’ad, from Ibn Isa, from Ali Bin Al Hakam, from Al Mufazzal Bin Salih, from Jabir Bin Yazeed,

‘From Abu Ja’far-asws regarding the Words of Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic: And We had Covenanted to Adam before, but he forgot, and We did not find for him having determination [20:115]. He-asws said: ‘It was Covenanted to him-as regarding Muhammad-saww and the Imams-asws from after him-saww, but he-as weakened, and there did not happen to be any determination for him-as that they-as were like this; and rather they-as are named as ‘The Determined ones’, because it was Covenanted to them-as regarding Muhammad-saww and the successors-asws from after him-saww, and Al-Mahdi-asws and his-asws ways, so they-as gathered their-as determination that it was like that, and the acceptance with it’’.[8]

32 – ل، ن، ع: سأل الشامي أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام عن خمسة من الأنبياء تكلموا بالعربية، فقال: هود، وصالح، وشعيب، وإسماعيل، ومحمد صلوات الله عليهم

The Syrian asked Amir Al-Momineen-asws about five from the Prophets-as who spoke in Arabic. He-asws said: ‘Hud-as, and Salih-as, and Shuayb-as, and Ismail-as, and Muhammad-saww’.

وسأله من ولد من الأنبياء مختونا ؟ فقال: خلق الله آدم مختونا “، وولد شيث مختونا “، وإدريس ونوح وسام ابن نوح وإبراهيم وداود وسليمان ولوط وإسماعيل وموسى وعيسى ومحمد صلوات الله عليهم

And he asked, ‘Which ones of the sons-as of the Prophets-as were (born) circumcised?’ He-asws said: ‘Allah-azwj Created Adam-as circumcised, and Shees-as was born circumcised, and Idrees-as and Noah-as, and Saam-as son-as of Noah-as, and Ibrahim-as, and Dawood-as, and Suleyman-as, and Lut-as, and Ismail-as, and Musa-as, and Isa-as, and Muhammad-saww’.

وسأله عن ستة لم يركضوا في رحم، فقال: آدم وحواء وكبش إبراهيم وعصا موسى و ناقة صالح والخفاش الذي عمله عيسى بن مريم وطار بإذن الله عزوجل

And he asked him-asws six who did not grow in a womb. He-asws said: ‘Adam-as, and Hawa-as, and the ram of Ibrahim-as, and staff of Musa-as, and she-camel of Salih-as, and the bat which Isa-as Bin Maryam-as made and it flew by the Permission of Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic’.

وسأله عن ستة. من الأنبياء لهم اسمان فقال: يوشع بن نون وهو ذوالكفل، ويعقوب وهو إسرائيل، والخضر وهو تاليا، ويونس وهو ذوالنون، وعيسى وهو المسيح، ومحمد وهو أحمد صلوات الله عليهم

And he asked him-asws about six from the Prophets-as having two names for them-as. He-asws said: ‘Yoshua Bin Noun-as and he-as is Zul Kifl, and Yaqoub-as and he-as is Israeel-as, and Al Khizr-as and he-as is Talia-as, and Yunus-as and he-as Zul Noun-as, and Isa-as and he-as is the Messiah-as, and Muhammad-saww and he-saww is Ahmad-saww, may the Salawat of Allah-azwj be upon them-as.[9]

 ك: الطالقاني، عن أحمد بن محمد الهمداني، عن علي بن الحسن بن فضال عن أبيه، عن محمد بن الفضيل، عن الثمالي، عن أبي جعفر عليه السلام قال: إن الله عزوجل عهد إلى آدم عليه السلام أن لا يقرب الشجرة، فلما بلغ الوقت الذي كان في علم الله تبارك وتعالى أن يأكل منها نسي فأكل منها، وهو قول الله تبارك تعالى: ” ولقد عهدنا إلى آدم من قبل فنسي ولم نجد له عزما “

Al Talaqany, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad al Hamdany, from Ali Bin Al Hassan Bin Fazal, from his father, from Muhammad Bin Al Fazeyl, from Al Sumaly,

‘From Abu Ja’far-asws having said: ‘Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic took an oath from Adam-as that he-as will not go near the tree. When the time reached which was in the Knowledge of Allah-azwj Blessed and Exalted that he-as eats from it, he-as forgot and ate from it, and it is the Words of Allah-azwj Blessed and Exalted: And We had Covenanted to Adam before, but he forgot, and We did not find for him having determination [20:115].

” فلما أكل آدم من الشجرة اهبط إلى الأرض فولد له هابيل واخته توأم، وولد له قابيل واخته توأم، ثم إن آدم أمر هابيل وقابيل أن يقربا قربانا “، و كان هابيل صاحب غنم، وكان قابيل صاحب زرع، فقرب هابيل كبشا وقرب قابيل من زرعه ما لم ينق، وكان كبش هابيل من أفضل غنمه وكان زرع قابيل غير منقى،

When Adam-as ate from the tree, he-as descended to the earth, and Habeel-as and his-as sister were born unto him-as as twins. Then Adam-as instructed Habeel-as and Qabeel-la both to offer an offering each; and Habeel-as was an owner of sheep, and Qabeel-la was an owner of a farm, so Habeel-la offered a ram and Qabeel-la offered from his farm what had not pure, and the ram of Habeel-as was from the most superior of his-as sheep, and farm of Qabeel-la was not pure.

فتقبل قربان هابيل ولم يتقبل قربان قابيل، وهو قوله عزوجل: ” واتل عليهم نبأ ابني آدم بالحق إذ قربا قربانا فتقبل من أحدهما ولم يتقبل من الاخر ” الاية،

The offering of Habeel-as was Accepted and offering of Qabeel-la was not Accepted, and it is the Word of the Mighty and Majestic: And relate to them the news of the two sons of Adam with the truth when they both offered an offering, but it was Accepted from one of them and was not Accepted from the other. [5:27] – the Verse.

وكان القربان إذا قبل تأكله النار، فعمد قابيل فبنى لها بيتا “، وكان أول من بنى للنار البيوت، وقال: لأعبدن هذه النار حتى تقبل قرباني،

And it so happened that the offering was consumed by the Fire. So Qabeel-la resorted to the Fire and built for it a house (for worship) and it was the first of the houses to be built for the fire. He-la said, ‘I-la will worship this fire until my-la offering is Accepted from me-la’.

ثم إن عدو الله إبليس قال لقابيل: إنه تقبل قربان هابيل ولم يتقبل قربانك، وإن تركته يكون له عقب يفتخرون على عقبك، فقتله قابيل،

Then the enemy of Allah-azwj Iblees-la said to Qabeel-la, ‘The offering of Habeel-as has been Accepted whilst your-la offering has not been Accepted, and if you-la were to leave him-as, his-as descendants would pride themselves over your-la descendants’. So, Qabeel-la killed him-as.

فلما رجع إلى آدم قال له: يا قابيل أين هابيل ؟ فقال: ما أدري وما بعثتني له راعيا ” ! فانطلق آدم فوجد هابيل مقتولا فقال: لعنت من أرض كما قبلت دم هابيل، فبكى آدم على هابيل أربعين ليلة

When he-la returned to Adam-as, he-as said to him-la: ‘O Qabeel-la! Where is Habeel-as?’ He-la said, ‘I don’t know, and you-as did not send me-la to him-as as a shepherd!’ So, Adam-as went and found Habeel-as killed, and he-as said: ‘Cursed is the ground which accepted the blood of Habeel-as!’ Adam-as cried over Habeel-as for forty nights.

ثم إن آدم سأل ربه عزوجل أن يهب له ولدا ” فولد له غلام فسماه هبة الله، لأن الله عزوجل وهبه له، فأحبه آدم حبا ” شديدا “،

Then Adam-as asked his-as Lord-azwj Mighty and Majestic to Grant him-as a son. A boy was born unto him-as and he-as named it Hibtullah (Gift of Allah-azwj), because Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic had Gifted him-as (Hibtullah) to him-as, and Adam-as loved him-as with intense love.

فلما انقضت نبوة آدم عليه السلام و استكمل أيامه أوحى الله تبارك وتعالى إليه أن يا آدم إنه قد انقضت نبوتك، و استكملت أيامك فاجعل العلم الذي عندك والإيمان والاسم الأكبر وميراث العلم و آثار النبوة في العقب من ذريتك عند ابنك هبة الله، فإني لن أقطع العلم والإيمان و الاسم الأكبر وميراث العلم وآثار النبوة من العقب من ذريتك إلى يوم القيامة، ولن أدع الأرض إلا وفيها عالم يعرف به ديني وتعرف به طاعتي، فيكون نجاة لمن يولد فيما بينك وبين نوح،

When the Prophet-hood of Adam-as expired and his-as days were completed, Allah-azwj Blessed and Exalted Revealed to him-as: “O Adam-as! Your-as Prophet-hood has expired, and your-as days are complete, therefore make the knowledge which is with you-as, and the Eman, and the Greatest Name, and inheritance of the knowledge, and effects of the Prophet-hood to be among the posterity from your-as offspring with your-as son-as Hibtullah-as, for I-azwj never terminate the knowledge, and the Eman, and the Greatest Name, and inheritance of the knowledge, and effects of the Prophet-hood, from your-as posterity from your-as offspring up to the Day of Qiyamah, and never leave the earth except and in it would be a knowledgeable one by whom My-azwj Religion would be recognised, and My-azwj obedience be introduced, so it would happen to be a salvation for the ones who would be born among what is between you-as and Noah-as.

وذكر آدم نوحا ” وقال: إن الله تبارك وتعالى باعث نبيا ” اسمه نوح وإنه يدعو إلى الله فيكذبونه فيقتلهم الله بالطوفان، وكان بين آدم ونوح عشرة آباء كلهم أنبياء الله، وأوصى آدم إلى هبة الله: أن من أدركه منكم فليؤمن به وليتبعه وليصدق به فإنه ينجو من الغرق

And Adam-as mentioned Noah-as and said: ‘Allah-azwj Blessed and Exalted will be Sending a Prophet-as, his-as name is Noah-as, and he-as will call to Allah-azwj, but they (people) will belie him-as and Allah-azwj will Kill them with the flood. And there was between Adam-as and Noahas, ten fathers, all of them Prophets-as of Allah-azwj. And Adam-as bequeathed to Hibtullah-as that: ‘The one from you who comes across him-as, he should believe in him-as, and follow him‑as and ratify him-as, and he would be saved from the drowning’.

ثم إن آدم مرض المرضة التي قبض فيها فأرسل إلى هبة الله  فقال له: إن لقيت جبرئيل أو من لقيت من الملائكة فاقرأه السلام وقل له: إن أبي يستهديك من ثمار الجنة، ففعل، فقال له جبرئيل: يا هبة الله إن أباك قد قبض، وما نزلت إلا للصلاة عليه فارجع،

Then Adam-as got sick with the illness in which he-as passed away, and he-as sent a message to Hibtullah-as and said to him-as: ‘If you-as meet Jibraeel-as or one who meets you-as from the Angels, then convey the greetings and say to him: ‘My-as father-as (Adam-as) wants to gift you‑as from the fruits of Paradise’. He-as did so, and Jibraeel-as said to him-as: ‘O Hibtullah-as! Your-as father-as has expired, and I-as did not descend except for the Salat upon him-as, therefore return’.

فرجع فوجد أباه قد قبض، فأراه جبرئيل كيف يغسله فغسله حتى إذا بلغ الصلاة عليه قال هبة الله: يا جبرئيل تقدم فصل على آدم، فقال له: جبرئيل: يا هبة الله إن الله تبارك وتعالى أمرنا أن نسجد لأبيك في الجنة، وليس لنا أن نؤم أحدا من ولده، فتقدم هبة الله

He-as returned and found his-as father-as to have expired. Then, Jibraeel-as showed him-as how to wash him-as until when it reached the Salat upon him-as, Hibtullah-as said: ‘O Jibraeel-as! Proceed, and pray Salat upon Adam-as’. Jibraeel-as said to him: ‘Allah-azwj Blessed and Exalted Commanded us to do Sajdah to your-as father-as in the Paradise, and it isn’t for us that we lead anyone from his-as children, therefore you-as Hibtullah-as, go ahead’.

فصلى على آدم وجبرئيل عليه السلام خلفه وحزب من الملائكة وكبر عليه ثلاثين تكبيرة، فأمر جبرئيل فرفع من ذلك خمس وعشرون تكبيرة، فالسنة اليوم فينا خمس تكبيرات، وقد كان يكبر على أهل بدر سبع وتسع

He-as prayed Salat upon Adam-as, and Jibraeel-as (prayed) behind him-as, along with a group from the Angels, and exclaimed upon him-as with thirty Takbeers. Jibraeel-as instructed to raise twenty-five Takbeers from that, so the Sunnah today among us is five Takbeers, and there had been exclaimed upon the people of Badr, seven and nine Takbeers.

ثم إن هبة الله لما دفن آدم أتاه قابيل فقال له: يا هبة الله إني قد رأيت آدم أبي قد خصك من العلم بما لم أخص به، وهو العلم الذي دعا به أخوك هابيل فتقبل قربانه

Then, when Hibtullah-as had buried Adam-as, Qabeel-la came to him-as and said to him-as, ‘O Hibtullah-as! I-la have seen my-la father-as Adam-as to have particularised you-as from the knowledge of what he-as had specialised with, and it is the knowledge which your-as brother-as Habeel-as used to supplicate with and his-as offering was accepted.

وإنما قتلته لكيلا يكون له عقب فيفتخرون على عقبي فيقولون: نحن أبناء الذي تقبل قربانه، وأنتم أبناء الذي لم يتقبل قربانه، وإنك إن أظهرت من العلم الذي اختصك به أبوك شيئا ” قتلتك كما قتلت أخاك هابيل،

And rather, I-la killed him-as lest there would happen to be posterity for him-as and they would be priding over my-la posterity and they would be saying, ‘We are the sons of the one whose offering was Accepted, and you are son of the one whose offering was not Accepted’, and you-as, if you-as were to manifest anything from the knowledge which your-as father-as specialised you-as with, I-la will kill you-as just as I-la killed your-as brother-as Habeel-as’.

فلبث هبة الله والعقب منه مستخفين بما عندهم من العلم والإيمان والاسم الأكبر وميراث العلم وآثار علم النبوة حتى بعث نوح عليه السلام وظهرت وصية هبة الله حين نظروا في وصية آدم فوجدوا نوحا ” قد بشر به أبوهم آدم عليه السلام فآمنوا به واتبعوه وصدقوه،

Hibtullah-as remained fearing the consequences from him-as due to what was with him-as from the knowledge, and the Eman, and the Greatest Name, and inheritance of the knowledge, and effects of the Prophet-hood, until Allah-azwj Sent Noah-as, and the bequest of Hibtullah appeared when they looked into the bequest of Adam-as, and they found Noah-as to have given the glad tidings with it of their father-as Adam-as. So, they believed in him-as, and followed him-as, and ratified him-as.

وقد كان آدم أوصى هبة الله أن يتعاهد هذه الوصية عند رأس كل سنة فيكون يوم عيد لهم، فيتعاهدون بعث نوح في زمانه الذي بعث فيه،  وكذلك جرى في وصية كل نبي حتى بعث الله تبارك وتعالى محمدا ” صلى الله عليه وآله وإنما عرفوا نوحا ” بالعلم الذي عندهم وهو قول الله تعالى: ” ولقد أرسلنا نوحا ” ” إلى آخر الآية،

And Adam-as had bequeathed to Hibtullah-as to get this bequest covenanted during the beginning of every year so it would become a day of festival for them. Thus, they were covenanted the Sending of Noah-as during his-as era which he-as had been Sent in. And like that flowed regarding the bequest of every Prophet-as until Allah-azwj Blessed and Exalted Sent Muhammad-saww. And rather, they recognised Noah-as due to the knowledge which was with them, and it is the Word of Allah-azwj the Exalted: And We had Sent Noah [57:26] – up to the end of the Verse.

وكان ما بين آدم ونوح من الأنبياء مستخفين ومستعلنين، ولذلك خفي ذكرهم في القرآن فلم يسموا كما سمي من استعلن من الأنبياء، وهو قول الله تعالى: ” ورسلا ” قد قصصناهم عليك من قبل ورسلا ” لم نقصصهم عليك ” يعني من لم يسمهم من المستخفين كما سمى المستعلنين من الأنبياء

And there was between Adam-as and Noah-as, from the Prophets-as, the Concealed ones and the Notified ones, and due to that their Mention is Concealed in the Quran, and they-as were not named just as the Notified ones from the Prophets-as were named, and it is the Word of Allah-azwj the Exalted: And Rasools – We-azwj did not Relate their-as stories unto you-sawwand Allah Spoke to Musa in a conversation [4:164] – meaning, He-azwj did not Name the concealed ones just as He-azwj Named the Notified ones from the Prophets-as.

فمكث نوح في قومه ألف سنة إلا خمسين عاما “، لم يشاركه في نبوته أحد، ولكنه قدم على قوم مكذبين للأنبياء الذين كانوا بينه وبين آدم، وذلك قوله: ” كذبت قوم نوح المرسلين ” يعني من كان بينه وبين آدم إلى أن انتهى إلى قوله: ” وإن ربك لهو العزيز الرحيم “

Noah-as lived among his-as people for a thousand years less fifty (950) years. He-as did not associate anyone in his-as Prophet-hood for he-as had come to a people who had rejected the Prophets-as who were between him-as and Adam-as and that is His-azwj Word: The people of Noah belied the Rasools [26:105] – meaning the ones who were between him-as and Adam-as up to the end of His-azwj Words: And surely your Lord, He is the Mighty, the Merciful [26:191].

ثم إن نوحا ” لما انقضت نبوته واستكملت أيامه أوحى الله عزوجل إليه: يا نوح قد انقضت نبوتك واستكملت أيامك، فاجعل العلم الذي عندك والإيمان والاسم الأكبر وميراث العلم وآثار علم النبوة في العقب من ذريتك عند سام، كما لم أقطعها من بيوتات الأنبياء الذين بينك وبين آدم، ولن أدع الأرض إلا ؟ وعليها عالم يعرف به ديني، وتعرف به طاعتي، ويكون نجاة لمن يولد فيما بين قبض النبي إلى خروج النبي الآخر،

So, when the Prophet-hood of Noah-as came to an end and his-as days were completed, Allah-azwj Revealed unto him-as that: “O Noah-as! Your-as Prophet-hood has come to an end and your-as days are completed, so make the Knowledge which is in your-as possession, and the Belief, and the Great Name, and the inheritance of the Knowledge, and effects of Knowledge of the Prophet-hood, to be in the descendants from your-as progeny, just as I-azwj did not Cut it off from the houses of the Prophets-as those who were between you-as and Adam-as, and I-azwj will never Leave the earth except that there will be in it a knowledgeable one by whom My-azwj Religion would be recognised by, and obedience to Me-azwj would be recognised by, and My‑azwj obedience is introduced, and salvation would lie in the ones who are born during what is in between the expiry of a Prophet-as up to the coming out of another Prophet-as.

وليس بعد سام إلا هود، فكان بين نوح وهود من الأنبياء مستخفين ومستعلنين. وقال نوح: إن الله تبارك وتعالى باعث نبيا ” يقال له هود، وإنه يدعو قومه إلى الله تبارك وتعالى فيكذبونه، وإن الله عزوجل مهلكهم، فمن أدركه منكم فليؤمن به و ليتبعه، فإن الله عز ذكره ينجيه من عذاب الريح،

And there isn’t after Saam-as except Hud-as, and there were between Noah-as and Hud-as, the Concealed ones and the Notified ones from the Prophets-as. And Noah-as said: ‘Allah-azwj Blessed and Exalted will be Sending a Prophet-as called Hud-as, and he-as will call his-as people to Allah-azwj Blessed and the Exalted, but they would belie him-as, and that Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic will Destroy them. So, the one from you who comes across him-as, then let him believing in him-as, and follow him-as, for Allah-azwj, Mighty is His-azwj Mention would Save him from the Punishment of the wind.

وأمر نوح ابنه ساما ” (سام خ) أن يتعاهد هذه الوصية عند رأس كل سنة، ويكون يوم عيد لهم فيتعاهدون فيه بعث هود و زمانه الذي يخرج فيه، فلما بعث الله تبارك وتعالى هودا ” نظروا فيما عندهم من العلم و الإيمان وميراث العلم والاسم الأكبر وآثار علم النبوة فوجدوا هودا ” نبيا ” قد بشرهم به أبوهم نوح، فآمنوا به وصدقوه واتبعوه، فنجوا من عذاب الريح وهو قول الله: ” وإلى عاد أخاهم هودا “

And Noah-as instructed his-as son-as Saam-as to get this bequest covenanted at the beginning of every year, and it would become a day of festival for them. So, they were covenanting with regards to it, the Sending of Hud-as and his-as era in which he-as would be coming. When Allah‑azwj Blessed and Exalted Sent Hud-as, they looked into what was with them from the knowledge, and the Eman, and inheritance of the knowledge, and the Greatest Name, and effects of the knowledge of the Prophet-hood, and they found Hud-as as a Prophet-as who had been given the glad tidings with by their father Noah-as. So, they believed in him-as, and ratified him-as and followed him-as, and they were saved from the Punishment of the wind, and it is the Word of Allah-azwj: And to Aad (We Sent) their brother Hud. [7:65].

” وقوله: ” كذبت عاد المرسلين * إذ قال لهم أخوهم هود ألا تتقون ” وقال الله عزوجل: ” ووصى بها إبراهيم بنيه ويعقوب ” وقوله: ” ووهبنا له إسحاق ويعقوب كلا ” هدينا ” لنجعلها في أهل بيته ” ونوحا هدينا ” من قبل ” لنجعلها في أهل بيته،

And His-azwj Words: (The people of) Aad belied the Rasools [26:123] When their brother Hud said to them: ‘Will you not fear?’ [26:124]; and the Mighty and Majestic Said: And Ibrahim bequeath with it to his sons and (so did) Yaqoub [2:132]; His-azwj Words: And We Granted to him Is’haq and Yaqoub, each we Guided [6:84], to Make it to be in his-as Household; and Noah We had Guided from before [6:84], to Make it to be in his-as Household.

فآمن العقب من ذرية الأنبياء من كان قبل إبراهيم لإبراهيم، وكان بين هود وإبراهيم من الأنبياء عشرة أنبياء وهو قوله عزوجل: ” وما قوم لوط منكم ببعيد ” وقوله: ” فآمن له لوط وقال إني مهاجر إلى ربي سيهدين ” وقوله تعالى: ” وإبراهيم إذ قال لقومه اعبدوا الله واتقوه ذلكم خير لكم “

So, the posterity from the offspring of the Prophets-as (all) believed the ones who were before Ibrahim-as to Ibrahim-as, and there were in between Hud-as and Ibrahim-as, from the Prophets-as, ten Prophets-as, and it is His-azwj Word, the Mighty and Majestic: nor are the people of Lut distant from you [11:89]; and His-azwj Words: And Lut believed in Him and said: ‘I am fleeing to my Lord, surely He is the Mighty, the Wise [29:26]; and His-azwj Words: And Ibrahim, when he said to his people: ‘Worship Allah and fear Him, that would be better for you, [29:16].

فجرى بين كل نبي ونبي عشرة آباء وتسعة آباء، وثمانية آباء كلهم أنبياء، وجرى لكل نبي ما جرى لنوح، وكما جرى لآدم وهود وصالح و شعيب وإبراهيم صلوات الله عليهم حتى انتهى إلى يوسف بن يعقوب بن إسحاق بن إبراهيم

So, there flowed between every Prophet-as and a Prophet-as, ten fathers, and nine fathers, and eight fathers, all of them being Prophets-as, and there followed for every Prophet-as what had flowed for Noah-as, and just as what had flowed for Adam-as, and Hud-as, and Salih-as, and Shuayb-as, and Ibrahim-as, until it ended up to Yusuf-as Bin Yaqoub-as Bin Is’haq-as Bin Ibrahim‑as.

ثم صارت بعد يوسف في الأسباط إخوته حتى انتهت إلى موسى بن عمران وكان بين يوسف وموسى بن عمران عشرة من الأنبياء، فأرسل الله عزوجل موسى وهارون إلى فرعون وهامان وقارون،

Then it came to be after Yusuf-as, among the tribes of his-as brothers until it ended up to Musa‑as Bin Imran-as, and there were between Yusuf-as and Musa-as Bin Imran-as, ten from the Prophets-as. So, Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Sent Musa-as and Haroun-as to Pharaoh-la and Haman-la and Qaroun-la.

ثم أرسل الله الرسل تترى ” كلما جاء امة رسولها كذبوه فأتبعنا بعضهم بعضا ” وجعلناهم أحاديث ” فكانت بنو إسرائيل تقتل في اليوم نبيين وثلاثة و أربعة، حتى أنه كان يقتل في اليوم الواحد سبعون نبيا “، ويقوم سوق بقلهم في آخر النهار

Then Allah-azwj Sent Rasools-as, one after another. Every time its Rasool came to a community, they belied him. So We Caused some of them to follow the others and We Made them as narrations [23:44]. The Children of Israel had killed during one day, two Prophets-as, and three, and four until it happened that in one day seventy Prophets-as were killed, (to the extent) and they were setting up their markets (stalls), at the end of the day.

فلما انزلت التوراة على موسى بن عمران تبشر بمحمد صلى الله عليه وآله وكان بين يوسف وموسى من الأنبياء عشرة، وكان وصي موسى بن عمران يوشع بن نون، وهو فتاه الذي قال فيه عزوجل، فلم تزل الأنبياء تبشر بمحمد صلى الله عليه وآله وذلك قوله: ” يجدونه ” يعني اليهود والنصارى، يعني صفة محمد واسمه ” مكتوبا عندهم في التوارة و الإنجيل يأمرهم بالمعروف وينهاهم عن المنكر “

When the Torah was Revealed unto Musa-as Bin Imran-as, it gave the glad tidings of Muhammad-saww, and there were between Yusuf-as and Musa-as, ten from the Prophets-as, and the successor-as of Musa-as Bin Imran-as was Yoshua-as Bin Noun-as, and he-as is the youth whom the Mighty and Majestic Spoke regarding him-as. The Prophets-as did not cease to give glad tidings of Muhammad-saww, and these are His-azwj Words: they are finding him [7:157] – meaning the Jews and the Christian (finding) the description of Muhammad-saww and his-saww name, written with them in the Torah and the Evangel (that) he would be instructing them with the good things and forbidding them from the evil, [7:157].

وهو قول الله تعالى يحكي عن عيسى بن مريم: ” ومبشرا ” برسول يأتي من بعدي اسمه أحمد ” فبشر موسى وعيسى بمحمد صلى الله عليهم أجمعين كما بشرت الأنبياء بعضهم بعضا حتى بلغت محمدا صلى الله عليه وآله،

And it is the Word of Allah-azwj the Exalted Relating from Isa-as Bin Maryam-as: giving glad tidings of a Rasool to come after me, his name being Ahmad’. [61:6]. So, Musa-as and Isa-asws (both) gave the glad tidings of Muhammad-saww together just as the Prophets-as had given glad tidings to each other until it reached Muhammad-saww.

فلما قضى محمد صلى الله عليه وآله نبوته واستكمل أيامه أوحى الله تبارك وتعالى إليه: أن يا محمد قد قضيت نبوتك، واستكملت أيامك، فاجعل العلم الذي عندك والإيمان والاسم الأكبر و ميراث العلم وآثار علم النبوة عند علي بن أبي طالب عليه السلام، فإني لن أقطع العلم والإيمان والاسم الأكبر وميراث العلم وآثار علم النبوة من العقب من ذريتك، كما لم أقطعها من بيوتات الأنبياء الذين كانوا بينك وبين أبيك آدم،

When the Prophet-hood of Muhammad-saww expired and his-saww days were completed, Allah‑azwj Blessed and Exalted Revealed unto him-saww: “O Muhammad-saww! Your-saww Prophet-hood has expired, and your-saww days are completed, therefore make the knowledge which is with you-saww, and the Eman, and the Greatest Name, and inheritance of the knowledge, and effects of the knowledge of the Prophet-hood, to be with Ali-asws Bin Abu Talib-asws, for I-azwj never Cut-off the knowledge, and the Eman, and the Greatest Name, and inheritance of the knowledge, and effects of the knowledge of the Prophet-hood, from the posterity of your-saww offspring, just as I-azwj did not Cut it off from the Households of the Prophets-as, those who were between you-saww and your-saww father-as Adam-as.

وذلك قوله تعالى: ” إن الله اصطفى آدم ونوحا ” وآل إبراهيم وآل عمران على العالمين * ذرية بعضها من بعض والله سميع عليم ” فإن الله تبارك وتعالى لم يجعل العلم جهلا “، ولم يكل أمره إلى ملك مقرب، ولا إلى نبي مرسل، ولكنه أرسل رسولا ” من ملائكته إلى نبيه فقال له كذا وكذا،

And these are the Words of the Exalted: ‘Surely Allah chose Adam and Noah and the progeny of Ibrahim and the progeny of Imran above the worlds [3:33] Offspring, one being from the other; and Allah is Hearing, Knowing [3:34]. Thus, Allah-azwj Blessed and Exalted did not Make the knowledge to the ignorant ones, and His-azwj Command neither came to an Angel of Proximity nor to a Messenger Prophet-as, but He-azwj Sent Messengers from His-azwj Angels to His-azwj Prophet-saww, and he said such and such to him-saww.

فأمره بما يحب ونهاه عما ينكر، فقص عليه ما قبله وما بعده بعلم فعلم ذلك العلم أنبياؤه وأصفياؤه من الآباء والإخوان بالذرية التي بعضها من بعض، فذلك قوله: ولقد آتينا آل إبراهيم الكتاب والحكمة وآتيناهم ملكا ” عظيما “

He-azwj Commanded him-saww with what He-azwj Loved and Forbade him-saww from what is evil, and Related to him-saww what (had happened) before him-saww and what was to happen after him-saww with knowledge. He-azwj Taught that knowledge of His-azwj Prophets-as, and His-azwj Elites from the fathers and brothers with the offspring which was from each other, and these are His-azwj Words: So We have Given the Progeny of Ibrahim, the Book and the Wisdom, and have Given them a grand kingdom [4:54].

فأما الكتاب فالنبوة، وأما الحكمة فهم الحكماء من الأنبياء والأصفياء من الصفوة، وكل هؤلاء من الذرية التي بعضها من بعض، الذين جعل الله تبارك وتعالى فيهم النبوة وفيهم العاقبة وحفظ الميثاق حتى ينقضي الدنيا، فهم العلماء ولاة الأمر، واستنباط العلم والهداة،

As for the Book, so it is the Prophet-hood, and as for the Wisdom, they are the wise ones from the Prophets-as and the Elites from the Elites, and all of them are from the offspring which were from each other, those whom Allah-azwj Blessed and Exalted Made the Prophet-hood to be among them, and the posterity, and preservation of the Covenant until the world expires. Thus, they are the knowledgeable ones, Guardians of the Commands (Wali Al-Amr), and the extractors of the knowledge and the Guidance.

فهذا بيان الفضل في الرسل والأنبياء والحكماء وأئمة الهدى والخلفاء الذين هم ولاة أمر الله، وأهل استنباط علم الله، وأهل آثار علم الله عزوجل من الذرية التى بعضها من بعض من الصفوة بعد الأنبياء من الآل والإخوان والذرية من بيوتات الأنبياء،

This is an explanation of the merits regarding the Rasools-as and the Prophets-as, and the wise ones, and the Imams-asws of Guidance and the Caliphs, those who are the Guardians of the Command of Allah-azwj, and the people to extract the Knowledge of Allah-azwj, and the people of the effects of the Knowledge of Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic, from the offspring which is from each other, from the Elites after the Prophets-as, from the family, and the brothers, and the offspring from the Households of the Prophets-as.

فمن عمل بعلمهم انتهى إلى إبراهيم فجاء بنصرهم، ومن وضع ولاية الله وأهل استنباط علمه في غير أهل الصفوة من بيوتات الأنبياء فقد خالف أمر الله، وجعل الجهال ولاة أمر الله، والمتكلفين بغير هدى، وزعموا أنهم أهل استنباط علم الله، فقد كذبوا على الله وزاغوا عن وصية الله وطاعته، فلم يضعوا فضل الله حيث وضعه الله تبارك وتعالى فضلوا وأضلوا أتباعهم، ولم يكن لهم يوم القيامة حجة،

The one who acts in their knowledge ending up to Ibrahim-as would have come as their helpers, and the one who places the Wilayah of Allah-azwj and the people of the extraction of His-azwj Knowledge to be in another than the elite people from the Households of the Prophets, so he has opposed a Command of Allah-azwj, and made the Jihad against the Guardians of the Command of Allah-azwj, (and place it with) the pretenders without guidance, and they claim that they are the people of the extraction, so they has strayed and strayed their followers, and there will not be any argument for them on the Day of Qiyamah.

إنما الحجة في آل إبراهيم لقول الله تبارك وتعالى: ” ولقد آتينا آل إبراهيم الكتاب والحكمة وآتيناهم ملكا ” عظيما ” فالحجة للأنبياء وأهل بيوتات الأنبياء حتى تقوم الساعة، لأن كتاب الله عزوجل ينطق بذلك،

But rather, Divine Authorities would be among the Progeny of Ibrahim-as due to the Words of Allah-azwj Blessed and Exalted: So, We have Given the Progeny of Ibrahim, the Book and the Wisdom, and have Given them a grand kingdom [4:54]. Thus, the Divine Authority would be for the Prophets-as and the people of the Households of the Prophets-as until the establishment of the Hour, because the Book of Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Spoke with that.

ووصية الله خبرت بذلك في العقب من البيوت التي رفعها الله تبارك وتعالى على الناس فقال: ” في بيوت أذن الله أن ترفع ويذكر فيها اسمه ” وهي بيوت الأنبياء والرسل الحكماء وأئمة الهدى،

And the successors-asws of (Prophets-as of) Allah-azwj informed of that among the posterity from the Household which Allah-azwj Blessed and Exalted Raised above the people, so He-azwj Said: (The Light is) in houses which Allah has Allowed to be Exalted and His Name is being Mentioned in these [24:36], and these are houses of the Prophets-as and the Rasools-as, the wise ones, and the Imams-asws of Guidance.

فهذا بيان عروة الإيمان التي نجا بها من نجا قبلكم، وبها ينجو من اتبع الهدى قبلكم وقد قال الله تبارك وتعالى في كتابه: ” ونوحا ” هدينا من قبل ومن ذريته داود وسليمان وأيوب ويوسف وموسى وهرون وكذلك نجزي المحسنين * وزكريا ويحيى وعيسى وإلياس كل من الصالحين * وإسماعيل واليسع ويونس ولوطا ” وكلا ” فضلنا على العالمين * ومن آبائهم وذرياتهم وإخوانهم واجتبيناهم وهديناهم إلى صراط مستقيم *

Thus, this is an explanation of the handhold of the Eman by which attained salvation the ones who attained salvation before you, and by it would attain salvation the ones who follow the Guidance before you, and Allah-azwj Blessed and Exalted has Said in His-azwj Book: and Noah We had Guided from before; and from his offspring Dawood, and Suleyman, and Ayoub, and Yusuf, and Musa, and Haroun, and like that We Recompense the good doers [6:84] And Zakriyya, and Yahya, and Isa, and Ilyas –all were from the righteous ones [6:85] And Ismail, and Al-Yas’a, and Yunus, and Lut; and all We Merited over the worlds [6:86] And from among their forefathers and their descendants and their brethren, and We Chose them and Guided them to the Straight Path [6:87].

اولئك الذين آتيناهم الكتاب والحكم والنبوة فإن يكفر بها هؤلاء فقد وكلنا بها قوما ” ليسوا بها بكافرين ” فإنه وكل بالفضل من أهل بيته من الأنبياء والإخوان والذرية، وهو قول الله عزوجل في كتابه: فإن يكفر بها امتك يقول: فقد وكلنا أهل بيتك بالإيمان الذي أرسلتك به فلا يكفرون بها أبدا “، ولا اضيع الإيمان الذي أرسلتك به،

They are those We Gave them the Book and the Wisdom and the Prophet-hood. But if they commit Kufr with it, then We have Allocated with it a people who wouldn’t be Kafirs with it [6:89]. The Allocation is with the merit from the Household of the Prophets-as and the brethren and the offspring, and it is the Word of Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic in His-azwj Book: So if your community disbelieves in it (P.s. – cannot find this Verse). He-azwj is Saying: “We-azwj have Allocated the People-asws of your-saww Household with the Eman which I-azwj Sent with him-saww, so they will not disbelieve in it, ever! Nor will they waste the Eman which I-azwj Sent with him-saww.

وجعلت أهل بيتك بعدك علما عنك وولاة من بعدك،  وأهل استنباط علمي الذي ليس فيه كذب ولا إثم ولا وزر ولا بطر ولا رئاء،

And I-azwj Made the People-asws of your-saww Household after you-saww as flags on your-saww behalf, and rulers from after you-saww, and the people of extraction of My-azwj Knowledge in which there are no lies nor any sins nor falsehood, nor arrogance, nor showing off.

هذا تبيان  ما بينه الله عزوجل من أمر هذه الامة بعد نبيها، إن الله تبارك وتعالى طهر أهل بيت نبيه، وجعل لهم أجر المودة، وأجرى لهم الولاية، وجعلهم أوصياءه وأحباءه وأئمته في امته من بعده،

This in an explanation of what Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Explained from the matter of this community after its Prophet-saww. Allah-azwj Blessed and Exalted Purified the People-asws of the Household of His-azwj Prophet-saww, and Made for them a Recompense of the cordiality, and Flowed until the Wilayah for them, and Made them-asws as his-saww successors-asws, and his-saww beloved ones and Imams-asws in his-saww community from after him-saww.

فاعتبروا أيها الناس وتفكروا فيما قلت حيث وضع الله عزوجل ولايته وطاعته ومودته واستنباط علمه وحجته فإياه فتعلموا، وبه فاستمسكوا تنجوا، ويكون لكم به حجة يوم القيامة والفوز،

Take a lesson, O you people, and think regarding what I-asws said, where Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Placed His-azwj Wilayah, and His-azwj obedience, and His-azwj cordiality, and the extraction of His-azwj Knowledge, and His-azwj Divine Authorities. So, learn from them-asws and adhere with them-asws, you will attain salvation, and there will happen to be an argument for you on the Day of Qiyamah, and the success.

فإنهم صلة بينكم وبين ربكم، ولا تصل الولاية إلى الله عزوجل إلا بهم، فمن فعل ذلك كان حقا ” على الله أن يكرمه ولا يعذبه، ومن يأت بغير ما أمره كان حقا ” على الله أن يذله ويعذبه

They-asws are the means between you and your Lord-azwj, and the Wilayah cannot be connected to Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic except through them-asws. So, the one who does that, would have a right upon Allah-azwj that He-azwj Honours him and not Punish him, and one who comes without what He-azwj Commanded would have a right upon Allah-azwj that He-azwj be Disgraced and Punished.

وإن الأنبياء بعثوا خاصة وعامة، فأما نوح فإنه ارسل إلى من في الأرض بنبوة عامة ورسالة عامة، وأما هود فإنه ارسل إلى عاد بنبوة خاصة، وأما صالح فإنه ارسل إلى ثمود قرية واحدة وهي لا تكمل أربعين بيتا ” على ساحل البحر صغيرة

And the Prophets-as were Sent as special ones and general ones. As for Noah-as, he-as was Sent to the ones in the earth with the general Prophet-hood and a general Message; and as for Hud-as, he-as was Send to Aad with a special Prophet-hood; and as for Salih-as, he-as was Sent to Samood-as, one town, and it was not even forty houses complete, upon a coast of the small sea.

وأما شعيب فإنه ارسل إلى مدين وهي لا تكمل أربعين بيتا “، وأما إبراهيم نبوته بكونى ويا، وهي قرية من قرى السواد فيها مبدأ أول أمره، ثم هاجر منها، وليست بهجرة قتال، وذلك قوله تعالى: ” وقال إني مهاجر إلى ربي سيهدين ” فكانت هجرة إبراهيم عليه السلام بغير قتال

And as for Shuayb-as, he-as was Sent to Madayn, and it is not even forty complete houses; and as for Ibrahim-as, his-as Prophet-hood was at Kounywaya (Kowsy Raba), and it is a town from the black townships wherein he-as began his-as first matter, then fled from it, and his-as emigration wasn’t fleeing a battle, and these are the Words of the Exalted: And he said: ‘I am going to my Lord. He would be Guiding me’ [37:99]. So, the emigration of Ibrahim-as took place without any fighting.

وأما إسحاق فكانت نبوته بعد إبراهيم، وأما يعقوب فكانت نبوته في أرض كنعان ثم هبط إلى أرض مصر فتوفي فيها، ثم حمل بعد ذلك جسده حتى دفن بأرض كنعان، والرؤيا التي رأى يوسف الأحد عشر كوكبا ” والشمس والقمر له ساجدين، فكانت نبوته في أرض مصر بدؤها،

And as for Is’haq-as, his-as Prophet-hood was after Ibrahim-as; and as for Yaqoub-as, his-as Prophet-hood was in the land of Canaan, then he-as descended to a land of Egypt and passed away in it. Then his-as body was carried until he-asws was buried in the land of Canaan. And the dream which Yusuf-as saw of eleven stars and the sun and the moon were doing Sajdah to him‑as, it was the commencement of his-as Prophet-hood in a land of Egypt.

ثم كانت الأسباط اثني عشر بعد يوسف، ثم موسى وهارون إلى فرعون وملائه إلى مصر وحدها، ثم إن الله تعالى أرسل يوشع بن نون إلى بني إسرائيل من بعد موسى، نبوته بدؤها في البرية التي تاه فيها بنو إسرائيل

Then there happened the twelve tribes after Yusuf-as, then Musa-as and Haroun-as to Pharaoh‑la and his-la chiefs to Egypt alone. Then Allah-azwj the Exalted Sent Yoshua-as Bin Noun-as to the Children of Israel from after Musa-as. His-azwj Prophet-as commenced in the wilderness in which the Children of Israel wandered.

ثم كانت أنبياء كثيرون: منهم من قصه الله عزوجل على محمد صلى الله عليه وآله، ومنهم من لم يقصه عليه. ثم إن الله عزوجل أرسل عيسى بن مريم إلى بني إسرائيل خاصة فكانت نبوته ببيت المقدس، وكان من بعده الحواريون اثني عشر،

Then there were a lot of Prophets-as – from them-as were ones Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Related unto Muhammad-saww, and from them were ones He-azwj did not Related unto him‑saww. Then Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Sent Isa-as Bin Maryam-as to the Children of Israeel-as in particular, and his-as Prophet-hood was at Bayt Al-Maqdas, and from after him-as were the twelve disciples.

فلم يزل الإيمان يستسر في بقية أهله منذ رفع الله عيسى عليه السلام، وأرسل الله تبارك وتعالى محمدا ” صلى الله عليه وآله إلى الجن و الإنس عامة، وكان خاتم الأنبياء، وكان من بعده الاثني عشر الأوصياء، منهم من أدركنا ومنهم من سبقنا، ومنهم من بقي،

The Eman did not cease to be veiled in a remnant of his-as family since Allah-azwj Raised Isa-as. And Allah-azwj Blessed and Exalted Sent Muhammad-saww to the Jinn and the human generally, and he-saww was the last of the Prophets-as, and there were from after him-saww, twelve successors-asws. From them-asws are ones we have come across and from them-asws are ones who preceded us, and from them-asws are ones who remain.

فهذا أمر النبوة والرسالة، وكل نبي ارسل إلى بني إسرائيل خاص أو عام له وصي جرت به السنة، وكان الأوصياء الذين بعد محمد صلى الله عليه وآله على سنة أوصياء عيسى، وكان أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام على سنة المسيح، وهذا تبيان السنة وأمثال الأوصياء بعد الأنبياء

So, this is the matter of the Prophet-hood and the Messenger-ship, and every Prophet-as Sent to the Children of Israel, special or general, for him-as was a successor-as. The Sunnah flowed with him-as. And the successors-asws, those after Muhammad-saww are upon the Sunnah of the successors -as of Isa-as, and Amir Al-Momineen-asws was upon a Sunnah of the Messiah. And this is an explanation of the Sunnah, and the examples of the successors-as after the Prophets-as’’.[10]

 

فقام يوشع بن نون فقال لموسى: يا رسول الله ما أمرك ربك ؟ فقال: بعبور البحر، فأقحم يوشع فرسه الماء وأوحى الله إلى موسى: ” أن اضرب بعصاك البحر ” فضربه ” فانفلق فكان كل فرق كالطود العظيم ” أي كالجبل العظيم، فضرب له في البحر اثنا عشر طريقا، فأخذ كل سبط في طريق،

Yoshua-as Bin Noon-as (the successor of Musa-as as Haroon-as has passed away) stood up and said to Musa-as: ‘O Rasool-Allah-saww! What is the Command of your-as Lord-azwj?’ He-as said: ‘To cross over the sea’. Yoshua-as entered his-as horse into the water, So We Revealed unto Musa: “Strike the sea with your staff!” So it parted, and each part was like a huge mountain [26:63]. Twelve pathways appeared for him-as in the sea, and each tribe from them took to one of it.

فكان الماء قد ارتفع  وبقيت الارض يابسة طلعت فيها الشمس فيبست كما حكى الله عزوجل: ” فاضرب لهم طريقا في البحر يبسا * لا تخاف دركا ولا تخشى ” ودخل موسى وأصحابه البحر، وكان أصحابه اثني عشر سبطا، فضرب الله لهم في البحر اثني عشر طريقا، فأخذ كل سبط في طريق،

The water had risen and the ground remained dry, the sun emerging in it and having dried it, just as Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Said: and strike a dry pathway or them in the sea. Do not fear of being overtaken, nor be scared” [20:77]. Musa-as and his-as companions entered the sea. And his-as companions were of twelve tribes, so Allah-azwj Struck twelve pathways for them in the sea, and every tribe took to one pathway.

وكان الماء قد ارتفع على رؤوسهم مثل الجبال، فجزعت الفرقة التي كانت مع موسى في طريقه فقالوا: يا موسى أين إخواننا ؟ فقال لهم: معكم في البحر، فلم يصدقوه، فأمر الله البحر فصارت طاقات حتى كان ينظر بعضهم إلى بعض ويتحدثون،

And the water was higher than their heads like the mountains. So a tribe who was with Musa‑as panicked in its pathway and said, ‘O Musa-as! Where are our brothers?’ So, he-as said to them: ‘With you in the sea’. They refused to ratify him-as, so Allah-azwj Commanded the sea that it should become such that they could see and talk to each other.

وأقبل فرعون وجنوده فلما انتهى إلى البحر قال لاصحابه: ألا تعلمون أني ربكم الاعلى قد فرج لي البحر ؟ فلم يجسر أحد أن يدخل البحر وامتنعت الخيل منه لهول الماء، فتقحم فرعون حتى جاء إلى ساحل البحر، فقال له منجمه: لا تدخل البحر، وعارضه فلم يقبل منه، وأقبل على فرس حصان فامتنع الفرس أن يدخل الماء،

And Pharaoh-la and his-la army came, and when they ended up to the sea, he-la said to his-la companions, ‘Are you all not knowing that I-la am your highest lord (and) and sea has split apart for me-la?’ But no one had the courage to enter the sea and the horses refused from it due to the terror of the water. Pharaoh-la thrusted forward until he-as came to the coast of the sea. His-la astrologer said to him-la, ‘Do not enter the sea and turn away from it’. But, he-la did not accept from him and came upon galloping. But the horse refused to enter the water.

فعطف عليه جبرئيل وهو على ما ديانة فتقدمه ودخل، فنظر الفرس إلى الرمكة فطلبها ودخل البحر واقتحم أصحابه خلفه، فلما دخلوا كلهم حتى كان آخر من دخل من أصحابه وآخر من خرج من أصحاب موسى أمر الله الرياح فضربت البحر بعضه ببعض، فأقبل الماء يقع عليهم مثل الجبال،

Jibraeel-as proceeded to it and he-as was upon a mare and went ahead and entered. The horse looked at the mare and sought her and entered the sea, and his-la companions thrust forward behind him-la. When all of them had entered to the extent that the last one from his-la companions had entered, and the last one from the companions of Musa-as had exited, Allah‑azwj Commanded the winds and they struck the sea, part of it with part, and the water fell upon them like the mountain.

فقال فرعون عند ذلك: ” آمنت أنه لا إله إلا الذي آمنت به بنو إسرائيل وأنا من المسلمين ” فأخذ جبرئيل كفا من حمأة فدسها في فيه ثم قال: ” الآن وقد عصيت قبل وكنت من المفسدين “

During that, Pharaoh-la said, ‘I believe that there is no god except the One in Whom the Children of Israel believe in, and I am from the submitters’ [10:90]. Jibraeel-as took some sludge and inserted it in his-la mouth, then said: Now! And you had disobeyed before and you were from the corrupters! [10:91]’’.[11]

فقام يوشع بن نون فقال لموسى: يا رسول الله ما أمرك ربك ؟ فقال: بعبور البحر، فأقحم يوشع فرسه الماء وأوحى الله إلى موسى: ” أن اضرب بعصاك البحر ” فضربه ” فانفلق فكان كل فرق كالطود العظيم ” أي كالجبل العظيم، فضرب له في البحر اثنا عشر طريقا، فأخذ كل سبط في طريق،

فعطف عليه جبرئيل وهو على ما ديانة فتقدمه ودخل، فنظر الفرس إلى الرمكة فطلبها ودخل البحر واقتحم أصحابه خلفه، فلما دخلوا كلهم حتى كان آخر من دخل من أصحابه وآخر من خرج من أصحاب موسى أمر الله الرياح فضربت البحر بعضه ببعض، فأقبل الماء يقع عليهم مثل الجبال،

Jibraeel-as proceeded to it and he-as was upon a mare and went ahead and entered. The horse looked at the mare and sought her and entered the sea, and his-la companions thrust forward behind him-la. When all of them had entered to the extent that the last one from his-la companions had entered, and the last one from the companions of Musa-as had exited, Allah-azwj Commanded the winds and they struck the sea, part of it with part, and the water fell upon them like the mountain.

فقال فرعون عند ذلك: ” آمنت أنه لا إله إلا الذي آمنت به بنو إسرائيل وأنا من المسلمين ” فأخذ جبرئيل كفا من حمأة فدسها في فيه ثم قال: ” الآن وقد عصيت قبل وكنت من المفسدين “

During that, Pharaoh-la said, ‘I believe that there is no god except the One in Whom the Children of Israel believe in, and I am from the submitters’ [10:90]. Jibraeel-as took some sludge and inserted it in his-la mouth, then said: Now! And you had disobeyed before and you were from the corrupters! [10:91]’’.[12]

6 – ص: الصدوق، عن ابن الوليد، عن الصفار، عن ابن هاشم، عن ابن أبي عمير، عن أبان بن عثمان، عن أبي حمزة، عن أبي جعفر عليه السلام قال: لما انتهى بهم موسى عليه السلام إلى الارض المقدسة قال لهم: ادخلوا، فأبوا أن يدخلوها، فتاهوا في أربعة فراسخ أربعين سنة وكانوا إذا أمسوا نادى مناديهم أمسيتم الرحيل، حتى إذا انتهوا إلى مقدار ما أرادوا أمر الله الارض فدارت بهم إلى منازلهم الاولى فيصبحون في منزلهم الذي ارتحلوا منه،

Al Sadouq, from Ibn Al Waleed, from Al Safar, from Ibn Hashim, from Ibn Abu Umeyr, from Aban Bin Usman, from Abu Hamza,

‘From Abu Ja’far-asws having said: ‘When Musa-as ended up with them to the Holy land, said to them: ‘Enter!’ But, they refused to enter it. They wandered within four Farsakhs for forty years. And they, whenever it was evening, a caller called out to them for the departure, until when they had ended up to a measurement of whatever they had wanted, Allah-azwj Commanded the earth to circle with them to their former positions, so, in the morning they would be in their encampments which they had departed from.

فمكثوا بذلك أربعين سنة، ينزل عليهم المن والسلوى فهلكوا فيها أجمعين إلا رجلين: يوشع بن نون وكالب بن يوفنا اللذين أنعم الله عليهما، ومات موسى وهارون عليهما السلام فدخلها يوشع بن نون وكالب وأبناؤهم، وكان معهم حجر كان موسى يضربه بعصاه فينفجر منه الماء لكل سبط عين

They remained with that for forty years, the Manna and Salva kept descending unto them. Therein, all of them died except for two men – Yoshua-as Bin Noun-as and Kalab Bin Youhanna, those two Allah-azwj have Favoured upon; and Musa-as and Haroun-as died, so Yoshua-as Bin Noun-as and Kalab Bin Youhanna and their sons entered it; and there used to be a stone with them. Musa-as would strike it with his-as staff, and the water would burst out from it, a spring for each tribe’’.[13]

Muslims will be replicating the ways of previous nations of Prophets-as:

10 – شى: عن حريز، عن بعض أصحابه، عن أبي جعفر عليه السلام قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: والذي نفسي بيده لتركبن سنن من كان قبلكم حذو النعل بالنعل، والقذة بالقذة، حتى لا تخطؤون طريقهم، ولا يخطئكم سنة بني إسرائيل.

From Hareyz, from one of his companions,

‘From Abu Ja’far-asws having said: ‘By the One-azwj in Whose Hand is my-asws soul, you all (Muslims) would be riding upon the ways of the ones who were before you, just like the slipper follows the slipper, and step by step, to the extent that you would neither be erring from their ways, nor erring from the Sunnah of the Children of Israel’.

ثم قال أبو جعفر عليه السلام: قال موسى لقومه: ” يا قوم ادخلوا الارض المقدسة التي كتب الله لكم ” فردوا عليه وكانوا ستمائة ألف، فقالوا: يا موسى ” إن فيها قوما جبارين وإنا لن ندخلها حتى يخرجوا منها فإن يخرجوا منها فإنا داخلون *

Then Abu Ja’far-asws said: ‘Musa-as said to his-as people: Enter the Holy land which Allah has Prescribed for you [5:21], but they rebutted upon him-as, and they were six hundred thousand. They said: O Musa! Surely there are tyrannous people in it, and we will never enter it until they exit from it. So if they do exit from it, then we shall be entering (it) [5:22].

قال رجلان من الذين يخافون أنعم الله عليهما ” أحدهما يوشع بن نون، والآخر كالب بن يافنا، قال: وهما ابنا عمه فقالا: ” ادخلوا عليهم الباب فإذا دخلتموه ” إلى قوله: ” إنا ههنا قاعدون “

He-asws said: ‘Two men of those who were fearing, whom Allah had Favoured upon, – one of them was Yoshua Bin Noun-as, and the other was Kalab Bin Youhanna, and they were both sons of his-as uncle, said, ‘Enter unto them by the gate, for when you enter it [5:23] – up to His-azwj Words: we will be sitting over here’ [5:24].

قال: فعصى أربعون ألفا، وسلم هارون وابناه ويوشع بن نون وكالب بن يافنا، فسماهم الله فاسقين فقال: ” لا تأس على القوم الفاسقين “

He-asws said: ‘Forty thousand disobeyed while Haroun-as and his-as son, and Yoshua-as Bin Noun‑as and Kalab Bin Youhanna submitted, so Allah-azwj Named them (disobedient ones) as transgressors, so He-azwj Said: therefore do not grieve upon the transgressing people” [5:26].

فتاهوا أربعين سنة لانهم عصوا فكان حذو النعل بالنعل، إن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله لما قبض لم يكن على أمر الله إلا علي والحسن والحسين وسلمان والمقداد وأبو ذر، فمكثوا أربعين حتى قام علي فقاتل من خالفه

They wandered for forty years because they disobeyed, and the ‘following of the slipper with the slipper’ is that when Rasool-Allah-saww passed away, there did not happen to be upon the Command of Allah-azwj except Ali-asws, and Al-Hassan-asws, and Al-Husayn-asws, and Salman-ra, and Al-Miqdad-ra, and Abu Zarr-ra, and they remained for forty (years) until Ali-asws stood up and fought the ones who opposed him-asws’’.[14]

علي بن أحمد الدقاق، عن حمزة بن القاسم، عن علي بن الجنيد الرازي، عن أبي عوانة، عن الحسين بن علي، عن عبد الرزاق، عن أبيه، عن مينا مولى عبد الرحمن ابن عوف، عن عبد الله بن مسعود قال: قلت للنبي صلى الله عليه وآله: يا رسول الله من يغسلك إذا مت ؟ فقال: يغسل كل نبي وصيه، قلت: فمن وصيك يا رسول الله ؟ قال: علي بن أبي طالب،

Ali Bin Ahmad Al Daqaq, from Hamza Bin Al Qasim, from Ali Bin Al Jundab al Razy, from Abu Awanah, from Al Husayn Bin Ali, from Abdul Razaq, from his father, from Mayna, a slave of Abdul Rahman Bin Awf, from Abdullah Bin Masoud who said,

‘I said to the Prophet-saww, ‘O Rasool-Allah-saww! Who will wash you-saww when you-saww pass away?’ He-saww said: ‘Every Prophet-as is washed by his-as successor-as’. I said, ‘And who is your‑saww successor-asws, O Rasool-Allah-saww?’ He-saww said: ‘Ali-asws Bin Abu Talib-asws’.

فقلت: كم يعيش بعدك يا رسول الله ؟ قال: ثلاثين سنة. فإن يوشع بن نون وصي موسى عاش من بعده ثلاثين سنة، وخرجت عليه صفراء بنت شعيب زوج موسى فقالت: أنا أحق بالامر منك، فقاتلها فقتل مقاتلتها وأسرها فأحسن أسرها،

I said, ‘How much will he-asws be living after you-saww, O Rasool-Allah-saww?’ He-saww said: ‘Thirty years, for Yoshua Bin Noun-as, successor-as of Musa-as lived after him-as for thirty years, and Safura daughter of Shuayb-as, wife (widow) of Musa-as came out against him-as and she said, ‘I am more rightful with the command than you-as are’. He-as fought her, and killed her fighters, and captivated her, and excellent was her captivity.

وإن ابنة أبي بكرستخرج على علي في كذا وكذا ألفا من امتي فيقاتلها فيقتل مقاتلتها ويأسرها فيحسن أسرها، وفيها أنزل الله تعالى: ” وقرن في بيوتكن ولا تبرجن تبرج الجاهلية الاولى ” يعني صفراء بنت شعيب

And the daughter of Abu Bakr will be coming out against Ali-asws among such and such thousands from my-saww community, and he-asws will fight her and killed her fighters, and captivated her and excellent was her captivity, and regarding her Allah-azwj the Exalted Revealed: And stay in your houses and do not display your finery like the displaying of the Pre-Islamic period before; [33:33] – meaning Safura daughter of Shuayb-as’’.[15]

ص: بالاسناد إلى الصدوق، عن أبيه، عن محمد العطار، عن ابن أبان، عن ابن اورمة بإسناده إلى أبي جعفر عليه السلام قال: إن امرأة موسى عليه السلام خرجت على يوشع ابن نون راكبة زرافة، فكان لها أول النهار وله آخر النهار فظفر بها، فأشار عليه بعض من حضره بما لا ينبغي فيها، فقال: أبعد مضاجعة موسى لها ؟ ولكن أحفظه فيها

By the chain to Al Sadouq, from his father, from Muhammad Al Attar, from Ibn Aban, from Ibn Awrama by his chain to,

‘Abu Ja’far-asws having said: ‘The wife of Musa-as came out against Yoshua Bin Noun-as riding a giraffe. For her was the beginning of the day and for him-as was the end of the day, and won over her. One of the ones present indicate to him-as with what is not befitting regarding her. He-as said: ‘Is the grave of Musa-as far to her? But, I-as shall be protective regarding her’’.[16]

The Story of Prophet Dawood-as Killing Goliath:

القطان، عن السكري، عن الجوهري، عن ابن عمارة، عن أبيه، عن الصادق، عن آبائه عليهم السلام قال: إن يوشع بن نون قام بالامر بعد موسى عليه السلام صابرا من الطواغيت على الاواء والضراء والجهد والبلاء حتى مضى منهم ثلاثة طواغيت فقوي بعدهم أمره

Al Qatan, from Al Sakry, from al Jowhary, from Ibn Amara, from his father,

‘From Al-Sadiq-asws, from his-asws forefathers-asws having said: ‘Yoshua-as Bin Noun-as stood with the command after Musa-as, patient from the tyrants upon the harm, and the adversities, and the struggles and the affliction until three tyrants from them died, so his-as command was strengthened after them.

فخرج عليه رجلان من منافقي قوم موسى بصفراء بنت شعيب امرأة موسى في مائة ألف رجل، فقاتلوا يوشع بن نون فغلبهم وقتل منهم مقتلة عظيمة  وهزم الباقين بإذن الله تعالى ذكره، وأسر صفراء بنت شعيب وقال لها: قد عفوت عنك في الدنيا إلى أن نلقى نبي الله موسى فأشكو ما لقيت منك ومن قومك،

Two men came from the hypocrites from the people of Musa-as came to him-as with Safura daughter of Shuayb-as, wife (widow) of Musa-as, among one hundred thousand men, and they fought against Yoshua Bin Noun-as, and he-as killed from them a great many fighters and defeated the remainder by the Permission of Allah-azwj, Exalted is His-azwj Mention, and captured Safura daughter of Shuayb-as and said to her: ‘I-as have pardoned you in the world up to the point we meet the Prophet-as of Allah-azwj Musa-as and I-as shall complain of what I-as faced from you and from your people’.

فقالت صفراء: واويلاه، والله لو ابيحت لي الجنة لاستحييت أن أرى فيها رسول الله وقد هتكت حجابه وخرجت على وصيه بعده،

‘Safura said, ‘O woe! By Allah-azwj, if you-as were to legalise the Paradise for me, I would be embarrassed to see Rasool-as of Allah-azwj (Musa-as) in it, and I have violated his-as veil and came out against his-as successor-as after him-as’.

فاستتر الائمة بعد يوشع إلى زمان داود عليه السلام أربعمائة سنة، وكانوا أحد عشر، وكان قوم كل واحد منهم يختلفون إليه في وقته ويأخذون عنه معالم دينهم حتى انتهى الامر إلى آخرهم فغاب عنهم،

So, they concealed, the Imams after Yoshua-as up to the era of Dawood-as for four hundred years, and they were eleven, and a group of each one of them were differing to him-as during his-as time, and they were taking form him-as the information of their Religion until the command ended up to the last of them, and he disappeared from them.

ثم ظهر فبشرهم بداود عليه السلام، وأخبرهم أن داود عليه السلام هو الذي يطهر الارض من جالوت وجنوده، ويكون فرجهم في ظهوره، وكانوا ينتظرونه

Then he appeared and gave glad tidings to them of Dawood-as, and informed them that Dawood-as, he-as is the one who will clean the earth from Goliath and his army, and their relief would happen during his-as appearance, and they were awaiting him-as.

فلما كان زمان داود عليه السلام كان له أربعة إخوة ولهم أب شيخ كبير، وكان داود عليه السلام من بينهم خامل الذكر، وكان أصغر إخوته لا يعلمون أنه داود النبي المنتظرالذي يطهر الارض من جالوت وجنوده، وكانت الشيعة يعلمون أنه قد ولد وبلغ أشده وكانوا يرونه ويشاهدونه ولا يعلمون أنه هو،

When it was the era of Dawood-as there were four brothers for him-as and for them was a father, old, aged; and from between them Dawood-as was the quiet male, and he-as was the youngest of his-as brothers. They were not knowing that he-as is Dawood-as the Prophet-as, the awaited who will clean the earth from Jalut and his army, and the Shias (adherents) were knowing that he-as had been born and had reached the strength and were seeing him-as and were witnessing him-as but were not knowing he-as was him.

فخرج داود عليه السلام وإخوته وأبوهم لما فصل طالوت بالجنود، وتخلف عنهم داود، وقال: ما يصنع بي في هذا الوجه ؟ واستهان به إخوته وأبوه وأقام في غنم أبيه يرعاها،

Dawood-as and his-as brothers and their father went out when Talut departed with the army, and Dawood-as stayed behind from them and he-as said: ‘What can be done with me-as in this direction?’ And his-as brothers and his-as father underestimated him-as and established him-as to be among the sheep of his-as father, pasturing them.

فاشتدت الحرب وأصاب الناس جهد فرجع أبوه وقال لداود: احمل إلى إخوتك طعاما يتقوون به على العدو، وكان عليه السلام رجلا قصيرا، قليل الشعر، طاهر القلب، أخلاقه نقية، فخرج والقوم متقاربون بعضهم من بعض قد رجع كل واحد منهم إلى مركزه،

The battle intensified and the people were hit by difficulties, so his-as father returned and said to Dawood-as, ‘Carry food for your-as brothers so they can be enduring with it upon the enemy. He-as was a short man, of little hair, clean of heart, his-as manners pure. He-as went out and the people were convergent, some of them from others, each one from them having returned to his position.

فمر داود على حجر فقال الحجر له بنداء رفيع: يا داود خذني فاقتل بي جالوت، فإني إنما خلقت لقتله، فأخذه ووضعه في مخلاته التي كانت يكون فيها حجارته التي كان يرمي بها غنمه، فلما دخل العسكر سمعهم يعظمون أمر جالوت، فقال لهم: ما تعظمون من أمره ؟ فو الله إن عاينته لاقتلنه،

Dawood-as passed by a stone and the stone said to him-as by a loud call, ‘O Dawood-as! Take me and kill Goliath with me, for rather I have been Created to kill him’. So, he-as took it and placed it in his bag which contained the stoned which he used to pelt his-as sheep with. When he-as entered the army, he-as heard them magnifying the matter of Goliath. He-as said to them: ‘What are you magnifying from his matter? By Allah-azwj! If I-as see him, I-as will kill him’.

فتحدثوا بخبره حتى ادخل على طالوت، فقال له: يا فتى ما عندك من القوة وما جربت من نفسك ؟ قال: قد كان الاسد يعدو على الشاة من غنمي فادركه وآخذ برأسه واقلب لحيه عنها فاخذها من فيه،

They discussed his-as news until he-as came up to Talut. He said to him-as, ‘O youth! What strength is there with you-as and experience from yourself-as?’ He-as said: ‘A lion had lied in wait upon a sheep from my sheep, and I-as cut across it and took hold of its head and overturned it and grabbed it from its mouth’.

وقد كان الله تبارك وتعالى أوحى إلى طالوت أنه لا يقتل جالوت إلا من لبس درعك فملاها، فدعا بدرعه فلبسها داود فاستوت عليه، فراع ذلك طالوت ومن حضره من بني إسرائيل، فقال: عسى الله أن يقتل جالوت به،

And Allah-azwj Blessed and Exalted Revealed to Talut that Goliath cannot be killed except by one who wears your armour and it fits. He called for his armour and Dawood-as wore it and it fit upon him-as. Talut and the ones from the Children of Israel who were present saw that. He said, ‘I hope Allah-azwj Kills Goliath by him-as’.

فلما أصبحوا والتقى الناس قال داود: أروني جالوت، فلما رآه أخذ الحجر فرماه به فصك به بين عينيه فدمغه وتنكس عن دابته، فقال الناس: قتل داود جالوت، وملكه الناس حتى لم يكن يسمع لطالوت ذكر،

When it was morning and the people met (in battle), Dawood-as said: ‘Show me-as Goliath’. When he-as saw him, he-as took the stone and threw it and it hit him between his eyes and pierced his brain and he overturned from his animal. The people said, ‘Dawood-as had killed Goliath!’ And the people considered him-as a king to the extent that the mention of Talut was not heard.

واجتمعت عليه بنو إسرائيل وأنزل الله تبارك وتعالى عليه الزبور، وعلمه صنعة الحديد فلينه له، وأمر الجبال والطير أن تسبح معه، وأعطاه صوتا لم يسمع بمثله حسنا، واعطي قوة في العبادة، وأقام في بني إسرائيل نبيا

And the Children of Israel gathered to him-as and Allah-azwj Blessed and Exalted Revealed the Psalms unto him-as and Taught him-as the making of iron and Softened it for him-as, and Commanded the mountains and the bird to glorify (Allah-azwj) along with him-as, and Gave him‑as such excellent voice the like of which had not been heard, and Gave him-as strength regarding the worship, and he-as stood among the Children of Israel as a Prophet-as. (Hadith continues)

The Israelis protested Succession to Sulayman-as (Just as Muslims did):

ثم إن داود عليه السلام أراد أن يستخلف سليمان عليه السلام لان الله عزوجل أوحى إليه يأمره بذلك، فلما أخبر بني إسرائيل ضجوا من ذلك، وقالوا: يستخلف علينا حدثا وفينا من هو أكبر منه

Then Dawood-as wanted to make Suleyman-as a Caliph because Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Revealed to him-as Commanding him-as with that. When the Children of Israel were informed, they raised a clamour from that, and they said, ‘He-as makes a Caliph upon us a young one while among us there is one who is older than him!’

فدعا أسباط بني إسرائيل فقال لهم: قد بلغتني مقالتكم فأروني عصيكم، فأي عصا أثمرت فصاحبها ولي الامر بعدي، فقالوا: رضينا، وقال: ليكتب كل واحد منكم اسمه على عصاه فكتبوا، ثم جاء سليمان بعصاه فكتب عليها اسمه ثم ادخلت بيتا واغلق الباب وحرسه رؤوس أسباط بني إسرائيل،

He-as called the tribes of the Children of Israel and said to them: ‘Your talk has reached me-as. Show me your staffs, so whichever staff bears fruit, then its owner would be the master of the command after me-as’. They said, ‘We agree’. And he-as said: ‘Let each one of you his name upon his staff’. They wrote. Then Suleyman-as came with his-as staff and wrote his-as name upon it, then entered these in room and locked the door, and the chiefs of the Children of Israel guarded it.

فلما أصبح صلى بهم الغداة، ثم أقبل ففتح الباب فأخرج عصيهم وقد أورقت عصا سليمان وقد أثمرت، فسلموا ذلك لداود، فاختبره بحضرة بني إسرائيل

When it was morning, he-as prayed the morning Salat with them, then went to open the door, and they brought out their staffs, and the staff of Suleyman had sprouted leaves and bore fruit. They submitted that to Dawood-as, and he-as examined it in the presence of the Children of Israel.

فقال له: يا بني أي شئ أبرد ؟ قال: عفو الله عن الناس وعفو الناس بعضهم عن بعض، قال: يا بني فأي شئ أحلى ؟ قال: المحبة وهي روح الله في عباده،

He-as said to him-as: ‘O my-as son-as! Which thing is most relaxing?’ He-as said: ‘Pardon of Allah‑azwj of the people, and pardoning of the people of each other’. He-as said: ‘O my-as son-as! Which thing is sweetest?’ He-as said: ‘The love, and it is a Spirit of Allah-azwj among His-azwj servants.

فافتر داود ضاحكا فسار به في بني إسرائيل فقال: هذا خليفتي فيكم من بعدي ثم أخفى سليمان بعد ذلك أمره وتزوج بامرأة واستتر من شيعته ما شاء الله أن يستتر، ثم إن امرأته قالت له ذات يوم: بأبي أنت وامي ما أكمل خصالك وأطيب ريحك ! ولا أعلم لك خصلة أكرهها إلا أنك في مؤونة أبي، فلو دخلت السوق فتعرضت لرزق الله رجوت أن لا يخيبك،

Dawood-as winked laughing and went with him-as among the Children of Israel and said: ‘This is my-as Caliph among you all from after me-as’. Then Suleyman-as concealed his-as matter after that and married a woman and veiled from his-as Shias (adherent) for as long as Allah-azwj Desired him-as to veil. Then his-as wife said to him-as one day, ‘May my father and my mother be (sacrificed) for you-as! How perfect are your-as characteristics and aromatic is your-as aroma! And I do not know any characteristic for you-as which I dislike except that you-as are refusing regarding the provisions. If only you would enter that market and expose to the sustenance of Allah-azwj I hope you will not be disappointed’.

فقال لها سليمان: إني والله ما عملت عملا قط ولا احسنه،

Suleyman-as said to her: ‘By Allah-azwj! I-as do not do any work at all nor am I-as good at it’.

فدخل السوق فجال يومه ذلك ثم رجع فلم يصب شيئا، فقال لها: ما أصبت شيئا، قالت: لا عليك إن لم يكن اليوم كان غدا، فلما كان من الغد خرج إلى السوق فجال فيه فلم يقدر على شئ ورجع فأخبرها فقالت: يكون غدا إن شاء الله،

He-as entered the market and wandered around that day of his-as, then returned, not achieving anything. He-as said to her: ‘I-as did not attain anything’. She said, ‘No, if it did not happen tomorrow, it will happen tomorrow’. When it was the next morning, he-as went out to the market and wandered around in it, but was not able upon anything and returned, and informed her. She said, ‘It will happen tomorrow, if Allah-azwj so Desires’.

فلما كان في اليوم الثالث مضى حتى انتهى إلى ساحل البحر فإذا هو بصياد فقال له: هل لك أن اعينك وتعطينا شيئا ؟ قال: نعم، فأعانه فلما فرغ أعطاه الصياد سمكتين فأخذهما وحمد الله عزوجل، ثم إنه شق بطن إحداهما فإذا هو بخاتم في بطنها، فأخذه فصيره في ثوبه وحمد الله، وأصلح السمكتين وجاء بهما إلى منزله،

When it was during the third day, he-as went until he-as ended up to a coast of the sea, and there was a fisherman. He-as said to him: ‘Is if okay for you if I-as were to assist you and you give us-as something?’ He said, ‘Yes’. So, he-as assisted him. When he-as was free, the fisherman gave him two fishes. He-as took them and praised Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic. Then he-as split open the belly of one of them and there it was with a ring in its belly. He-as took it and put it is his-as cloth (pocket) and praise Allah-azwj, and corrected the two fishes and came with them to his-as house.

وفرحت امرأته بذلك، وقالت له: إني اريد أن تدعو أبوي حتى يعلما أنك قد كسبت، فدعاهما فأكلا معه، فلما فرغوا قال لهم: هل تعرفوني ؟ قالوا: لا والله إلا أنا لم نر خيرا منك،

And his-as wife rejoiced with that and said to him-as, ‘I want you-as to invite my parent to let them know that you-as have earned’. He-as called them and they ate with him-as. When they were free, he-as said to them: ‘Do you recognise me-as?’ They said, ‘No, by Allah-azwj, except we have not seen anyone better than you-as’.

فأخرج خاتمه فلبسه فخر عليه الطير والريح وغشيه الملك وحمل الجارية وأبويها إلى بلاد إصطخر، واجتمعت إليه الشيعة واستبشروا به ففرج الله عنهم ما كانوا فيه من حيرة غيبته،

He-as brought out his-as ring and wore it, and the birds and the breezes fell down upon it and the Angel came down and carried the girl and her parents to the city of Istakhar (Persepolis), and the Shias gathered to him-as and rejoiced with him-as. Allah-azwj Relieved from them whatever they were in from the confusion of his-as occultation.

فلما حضرته الوفاة أوصى إلى آصف بن برخيا بإذن الله تعالى ذكره، فلم يزل بينهم تختلف إليه الشيعة ويأخذون عنه معالم دينهم،

When the death presented (to Suleyman-as), he-as bequeathed to Aasif-as Bin Barkhiya-as by the Permission of Allah-azwj, Exalted is His-azwj Mention. He-as did not cease to be between them, the Shias interchanging to him-as and taking the information of their Religion from him-as.

ثم غيب الله عزوجل آصف غيبة طال أمدها، ثم ظهر لهم فبقي بين قومه ما شاء الله، ثم إنه ودعهم فقالوا له: أين الملتقى ؟ قال: على الصراط، وغاب عنهم ما شاء الله،

Then Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Caused the occultation of Aasif, an occultation of prolonged duration. Then he-as appeared to them and remained between his-as people for as long as Allah-azwj so Desired. Then he-as bade them farewell and they said to him-as, ‘Where will we meet?’ He-as said: ‘Upon the Bridge (in the Hereafter)’, and he-as disappeared from them for as long as Allah-azwj so Desired.

واشتدت البلوى على بني إسرائيل بغيبته وتسلط عليهم بخت نصر فجعل يقتل من يظفر به منهم ويطلب من يهرب، ويسبي ذراريهم، فاصطفى من السبي من أهل بيت يهودا أربعة نفر فيهم دانيال، واصطفى من ولد هارون عزيرا، وهم حينئذ صبية صغار،

And the calamities intensified upon the Children of Israel due to his-as occultation, and Bakht Nasr overcame upon them and went on to kill whoever he was victorious with from them and sought ones who fled, and captured their offspring. He chose from the captives from the household of Yehouda, four persons, among them being Danyal-as, and chose from the children of Haroun-as, Uzayr-as, and on that day they-as young children.

فمكثوا في يده وبنو إسرائيل في العذاب المهين، والحجة دانيال أسير في يد بخت نصر تسعين سنة، فلما عرف فضله وسمع أن بني إسرائيل ينتظرون خروجه ويرجون الفرج في ظهوره وعلى يده أمر أن يجعل في جب عظيم واسع ويجعل معه الاسد ليأكله، فلم يقربه،

They remained in his hands, and the Children of Israel were in the humiliating torment, and the Divine Authority Danyal-as was a captive in the hands of Bakht Nasr for years. When he realised his-as merits and heard that the Children of Israel were awaiting his-as advent and were hoping for the relief during his-as appearance, and upon his-as hand would be the command, he made him-as be in a great capacious pit and made the lion to be with him-as to devour him‑as. But it did not come near him-as.

وأمر أن لا يطعم، فكان الله تعالى يأتيه بطعامه وشرابه على يد نبي من أنبياء بني إسرائيل، فكان يصوم دانيال النهار، ويفطر الليل على ما يدلى إليه من الطعام،

And he ordered that he-as should not be fed. Allah-azwj the Exalted brought to him-as his-as food and his-as drink upon the hands of a Prophet-as from the Prophets-as of the Children of Israel. Danyal-as used to Fast during the day and break Fast at night upon what had been brought to him-as from the food.

واشتدت البلوى على شيعته وقومه المنتظرين لظهوره، وشك أكثرهم في الدين لطول الامد، فلما تناهى البلاء بدانيال وبقومه رأى بخت نصر في المنام كأن ملائكة من السماء قد هبطت إلى الارض أفواجا إلى الجب الذي فيه دانيال مسلمين عليه، يبشرونه بالفرج،

And the calamities intensified upon his-as Shias and his-as people, the ones awaiting his-as appearance, and a lot of them doubted in the Religion due to the prolonged period. When the afflictions stopped with Danyal-as and his-as people, Bakht Nasr was in the dream as if Angels from the sky had descended to the earth in droves to the pit in which was Danyal-as, submitting to him-as, giving him-as glad tidings with the relief.

فلما أصبح ندم على ما أتى إلى دانيال، فأمر أن يخرج من الجب فلما اخرج اعتذر إليه مما ارتكب منه من التعذيب، ثم فوض إليه النظر في امور ممالكه والقضاء بين الناس،

When it was morning, he regretted upon what he had done to Danyal-as and ordered for him‑as to be brought out from the pit. When he-as came out, he presented excuses to him-as from what had been inflicted from him of the punishment. Then he delegated to him-as, the overlooking in the affairs of his government and the judgment between the people.

فظهر من كان مستترا من بني إسرائيل، ورفعوا رؤوسهم، واجتمعوا إلى دانيال عليه السلام موقنين بالفرج، فلم يلبث إلا القليل على تلك الحال حتى مضى لسبيله، وأفضى الامر بعده إلى عزير، وكانوا يجتمعون إليه، ويأنسون به، ويأخذون عنه معالم دينهم،

So, it appeared from what was veiled from the Children of Israel, and they raised their heads and gathered to Danyal-as convinced of the relief. But, none remained upon that state except a few until he-as went to his-as way. And he-as decreed the command after him-as to Uzayr-as, and they were gathering to him-as and comforting with him-as, and taking from him-as the information of their Religion.

فغيب الله عنهم شخصه مائة عام، ثم بعثه وغابت الحجج بعده، واشتدت البلوى على بني إسرائيل حتى ولد يحيى بن زكريا عليه السلام وترعرع وظهر وله سبع سنين،

Allah-azwj Caused his-as person to disappear from them for one hundred years, then Resurrected him-as, and the Divine Authority was absent after him-as. And the calamities intensified upon the Children of Israel until Yahya-as Bin Zakariya-as was born and grew up and there were seven years for him-as.

فقام في الناس خطيبا فحمد الله وأثنى عليه وذكرهم بأيام الله، وأخبرهم أن محن الصالحين إنما كانت لذنوب بني إسرائيل، وأن العاقبة للمتقين، ووعدهم الفرج بقيام المسيح عليه السلام بعد نيف وعشرين سنة من هذا القول،

He-as stood addressing among the people. He-as praised Allah-azwj and extolled upon Him-azwj and reminded them of the days of Allah-azwj and informed them that the Trials of the righteous were rather due to the sins of the Children of Israel and that the end-result is for the pious, and promised them the relief by the rising of the Messiah-as after a gap of more than twenty years from this word.

فلما ولد المسيح أخفى الله ولادته وغيب شخصه لان مريم عليها السلام لما حملته انتبذت به مكانا قصيا. ثم إن زكريا وخالتها أقبلا يقصان أثرها حتى هجما عليها وقد وضعت ما في بطنها وهي تقول: ” يا ليتني مت قبل هذا وكنت نسيا منسيا”

When the Messiah-as was born, Allah-azwj Concealed his-as birth and Caused his-as person to disappear because when Maryam-as bore him, then she withdrew with him to a remote place [19:22]. Then Zakariya-as and her-as maternal aunt came following her-as footsteps until they arrived to her-as, and she-as had already placed what was in her-as belly, and she-as said: ‘I wish I had died before this, and was completely forgotten!’ [19:23].

فأطلق الله تعالى ذكره لسانه بعذرها وإظهار حجتها، فلما ظهر اشتدت البلوى والطلب على بني إسرائيل وأكب الجبابرة والطواغيت عليهم، حتى كان من أمر المسيح ما قد أخبر الله به،

Allah-azwj, Exalted is His-azwj Mention, Freed his-as tongue with her-as excuse and manifested her‑as proof. When he-as appeared, the calamities and the demands intensified upon the Children of Israel, and the tyrants and the despots came down (hard) upon them, until it was from the matter of the Messiah-as what Allah-azwj has Informed with.

واستتر شمعون ابن حمون والشيعة حتى أفضى بهم الاستتار إلى جزيرة من جزائر البحر فأقاموا بها ففجر لهم فيها العيون العذبة، واخرج لهم من كل الثمرات، وجعل لهم فيها الماشية،

And Shamoun Ibn Hamoun-as and the Shias concealed the concealment accomplished with them to an island from the islands of the sea. They stayed at it, and fresh springs burst out for them therein, and all fruits came out for them, and the livestock was made to be for them in it.

وبعث إليهم سمكة تدعى القمد لا لحم لها ولا عظم، وإنما هي جلد ودم فخرجت من البحر، وأوحى الله عزوجل إلى النحل أن تركبها، فركبتها فأتت النحل إلى تلك الجزيرة ونهض النحل وتعلق بالشجر فعرش وبنى وكثر العسل، ولم يكونوا يفقدون شيئا من أخبار المسيح عليه السلام

And a fish called Al-Qamad was Sent to them, having neither flesh for it nor bones, and rather it was skin and blood. It came out from the sea, and Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Revealed to the bee to ride it. It rode it, and the bee came to that island. And the bee rose and attached with the tree, and it build a hive and the honey was abundant; and they were not missing out anything from the news of the Messiah-as’’.[17]

Appendix: Additional Ahadith on Prophets-as

3 – وفي رواية أبي الجارود، عن أبي جعفر عليه السلام في قوله: ” وإذ قال موسى لفتاه ” وهو يوشع بن نون، وقوله: ” لا أبرح ” يقول: لا أزال ” حتى أبلغ مجمع البحرين أو أمضي حقبا ” والحقب: ثمانون سنة. وقوله: ” لقد جئت شيئا إمرا ” هو المنكر، وكان موسى ينكر الظلم، فأعظم ما رأى

And in a report of Abu Al Jaroud,

‘From Abu Ja’far-asws regarding His-azwj Words: [18:60] And when Musa said to his attendant: and he-as was Yoshua-as Bin Noon-as: ‘I will not stop, he-as is saying: ‘I-as will not cease’ until I reach the junction of the two seas, or I will go on for ages’ [18:60]. He-asws said: ‘Al-Haqab (age) – is of eighty years. And His-azwj Words: You have committed a grave thing’ [18:71], it is the evil, and Musa-as used to renounce the injustice, so he-as was aggrieved at what he-as saw’’.[18]

4 – ع: القطان، عن السكري، عن الجوهري، عن ابن عمارة، عن أبيه، عن جعفر بن محمد عليه السلام أنه قال: إن الخضر كان نبيا مرسلا بعثه الله تبارك وتعالى إلى قومه، فدعاهم إلى توحيده والاقرار بأنبيائه ورسله وكتبه، وكانت آيته أنه كان لا يجلس على خشبة يابسة ولا أرض بيضاء إلا أزهرت خضراء، وإنما سمي خضرا لذلك، وكان اسمه تاليا بن ملكان بن عابر بن أرفخشد بن سام بن نوح عليه السلام

Al Qatan from Al Sakry, from Al Jowhary, from Ibn Amarah, from his father,

‘From Ja’far-asws Bin Muhammad-asws having said: ‘Al-Khizr-as was a Mursil Prophet-as. Allah-azwj Blessed and Exalted Sent him-as to his-as people, so he-as called them to His-azwj Tawheed and the acceptance of His-azwj Prophets-as, and His-azwj Rasools-as, and His-azwj Books. And his-as miracle was that he-as did sit upon dry wood, or white ground (unproductive land), except that it blossomed as green. But rather, he-as was named as ‘Khizr’ (green) due to that, and that his‑as name was Baliya Bin Malkan Bin Aabir Bin Arfakhshad Ibn Saam Bin Noah-as.

وإن موسى لما كلمه الله تكليما وأنزل عليه التوراة وكتب له في الالواح من كل شئ موعظة وتفصيلا لكل شئ وجعل آيته في يده وعصاه وفي الطوفان والجراد والقمل والضفادع والدم وفلق البحر وغرق الله عزوجل فرعون وجنوده عملت البشرية فيه حتى قال في نفسه: ما أرى أن الله عزوجل خلق خلقا أعلم مني،

And that Allah Spoke to Musa in a conversation [4:164], And We Prescribed to him in the Tablets, Advice from all things and detail of everything [7:145], and Made the Signs to be in his-as hand, and his-as staff, and in the flood, and the locusts, and the lice, and the frogs, and the blood, and splitting of the sea, and Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic drowning Pharaoh-la and his-la army, and the humanity worked in him-as until he-as said within himself-as: ‘I-as do not see Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic to have Created any creature more knowledgeable than me-as’.

فأوحى الله عزوجل إلى جبرئيل: يا جبرئيل أدرك عبدي موسى قبل أن يهلك وقل له: إن عند ملتقى البحرين رجلا عابدا فاتبعه وتعلم منه،

Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Revealed unto Jibraeel-as: “O Jibraeel-as! Meet My-azwj servant Musa-as before he-as is destroyed and say to him-as: ‘By the meeting point of the two seas there is a worshipping man, follow him and learn from him’”.

فهبط جبرئيل على موسى بما أمره به ربه عزوجل، فعلم موسى عليه السلام أن ذلك لما حدثت به نفسه، فمضى هو وفتاه يوشع بن نون حتى انتهيا إلى ملتقى البحرين فوجدا هناك الخضر عليه السلام يتعبد الله عزوجل كما قال الله عزوجل: ” فوجدا عبدا من عبادنا آتيناه رحمة من عندنا وعلمناه من لدنا علما *

Jibraeel-as descended unto Musa-as with what he-as had been Commanded with by his-as Lord‑azwj Mighty and Majestic and let him-as know that, that is due to what he-as had discussed with himself-as. So, he-as and his-as youth Yoshua-as Bin Noun-as went until they-as ended up to the meeting point of the two seas and they found Al-Khizr over there worshipping Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic, just as Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Said: They found a servant from Our servants whom We had Granted Mercy from Us and We had Taught him knowledge from Us [18:65].

قال له موسى هل أتبعك على أن تعلمني مما علمت رشدا ” قال له الخضر: ” إنك لن تستطيع معي صبرا ” لاني وكلت بعلم لا تطيقه، ووكلت أنت بعلم لا اطيقه،

Musa said to him: ‘Can I follow you on condition that you will teach me right Knowledge from what you have been Taught?’ [18:66]. Al-Khizr-as said to him-as: ‘You will never be able on being patient with me [18:67], because I-as have been allocated with knowledge you-as cannot tolerate, and you-as are allocated with knowledge I-as cannot tolerate’.

قال موسى: بل أستطيع معك صبرا، فقال له الخضر: إن القياس لا مجال له في علم الله وأمره ” وكيف تصبر على ما لم تحط به خبرا ” قال موسى: ” ستجدني إن شاء الله صابرا ولا أعصي لك أمرا “

Musa-as said: ‘But I-as am capable of observing patience with you-as’. Al-Khizr-as said to him-as: ‘The analogy, there is no scope for it in the Knowledge of Allah-azwj and His-azwj Commands, And how can you have patience upon what news you have not been narrated with?’ [18:68]. Musa-as said: ‘‘If Allah so desires it, you will find me patient and I shall not be disobedient to you in any matter’ [18:69].

فلما استثنى المشية قبله، قال: ” فإن اتبعتني فلا تسألني عن شئ حتى احدث لك منه ذكرا ” فقال موسى عليه السلام: لك ذلك علي ” فانطلقا حتى إذا ركبا في السفينة خرقها ” الخضر عليه السلام فقال له موسى عليه السلام: ” أخرقتها لتغرق أهلها لقد جئت شيئا إمرا * قال ألم أقل ” لك ” إنك لن تستطيع معي صبرا ” قال موسى: ” لا تؤاخذني بما نسيت ” أي بما تركت من أمرك ” ولا ترهقني من أمري عسرا *

When he-as excluded the desired before him-as, He said: ‘So If you were to follow me, then you will not question me about anything until I narrate to you of it with a mention [18:70]. Musa-as said: ‘That is for you-as upon me-as’. They-as both went until when they-as were riding in the boat, Al-Khizr-as punctured it. Musa-as said to him-as: ‘‘Did you make a hole in it to drown its people? You have committed a grave thing’ [18:71]. Al-Khizr-as said to him-as: ‘Did I not say you will not be able on being patient with me?’ [18:72]. Musa-as said: ‘Do not seize me with what I forgot – i.e., with what I-as neglected from your-as instructions,  and do not be hard upon me from my difficult matter [18:73]’.

فانطلقا حتى إذا لقيا غلاما فقتله ” الخضر عليه السلام، فغضب موسى وأخذ بتلبيبه وقال له: ” أقتلت نفسا زكية بغير نفس لقد جئت شيئا نكرا ” قال له الخضر: إن العقول لا تحكم على أمر الله تعالى ذكره، بل أمر الله يحكم عليها فسلم لما ترى مني واصبر عليه، فقد كنت علمت أنك لن تستطيع معي صبرا، قال موسى: ” إن سألتك بعدها عن شئ  فلا تصاحبني قد بلغت من لدني عذرا *

They-as went until they-as met a boy. Al-Khizr-as killed him, so Musa-as got angered and grabbed his-as dress and said to him-as: ‘Have you killed a soul innocent (of killing) another soul? You have committed a terrible thing’ [18:74]!’ Al-Khizr-as said to him-as: ‘The intellects cannot decide upon a Command of Allah-azwj, Exalted is His-azwj Mention, but the Command of Allah-azwj Decides upon these, therefore submit to what you-as see from me-as and be patient upon it, for I-as had known that you-as will never be capable of being patient with me-as’. Musa-as said: ‘If I ask you about anything after it, then do not keep me in your company, so you would have reached an excuse from me’ [18:76]’.

فانطلقا حتى إذا أتيا أهل قرية ” وهي الناصرة وإليها تنسب النصارى ” استطعما أهلها فأبوا أن يضيفوهما فوجدا فيها جدارا يريد أن ينقض ” فوضع الخضر عليه السلام يده عليه ” فأقامه ” فقال له موسى: ” لو شئت لتخذت عليه أجرا ” قال له الخضر: ” هذا فراق بيني وبينك سانبئك بتأويل ما لم تستطع عليه صبرا “

So, they went on until when they came to a people of a town [18:77] – in the evening, and it is Nazareth, and the Christians had been established there and would not accept them-as as guests. Then they found a wall therein about to break down, – so Al-Khizr placed his-as hand upon it and straightened it. He (Musa) said, ‘If you so desire, you could take a recompense upon it’ [18:77]. Al-Khizr-as said: ‘‘This will be a separation between me and you. I shall inform you with the explanation of what you were not able on being patient upon [18:78].

فقال: ” أما السفينة فكانت لمساكين يعملون في البحر فأردت أن أعيبها وكان وراءهم ملك يأخذ كل سفينة ” صالحة ” غصبا ” فأردت بما فعلت أن تبقى لهم ولا يغصبهم الملك عليها، فنسب الابانة في هذا الفعل إلى نفسه لعلة ذكر التعييب، لانه أراد أن يعيبها عند الملك إذا شاهدها، فلا يغصب المساكين عليها، و أراد الله عزوجل صلاحهم بما أمره به من ذلك.

As for the boat, it belonged to poor folk who were working in the sea, so I wanted to damage it, and behind them was a king seizing every good boat by force [18:79], so I-as wanted, with what I-as did, it should remain for them and the king should not usurp it. I-as demonstrated in this deed to himself perhaps he would mention the fault, because if it is faulted in the presence of the king when he sees it, then he would not usurp the poor (people) upon it, and Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Wanted to Correct for them with what I-as had been Commanded with from that.

ثم قال: ” وأما الغلام فكان أبواه مؤمنين ” وطلع كافرا، وعلم الله تعالى ذكره أنه إن بقي كفر أبواه وافتتنا به وضلا بإضلاله إياهما، فأمرني الله تعالى ذكره بقتله وأراد بذلك نقلهم إلى محل كرامته في العاقبة، فاشترك بالابانة بقوله: ” فخشينا أن يرهقهما طغيانا وكفرا * فأردنا أن يبدلهما ربهما خيرا منه زكوة وأقرب رحما “

Then he-as said: And as for the boy, his parents were Momineen, – and their natures were of Kafirs, and Allah-azwj, Exalted is His-azwj Mention Knew that the Kufr of his parents would remain and they would be tempted with it and by their straying, they would stray him. So, Allah-azwj, Exalted is His-azwj Mention Commanded me-as with killing him and Wanted by that to transfer them to a place of His-azwj Honour in the consequence (Hereafter). So, I-as was participated with the demonstration, and we feared lest he exhausts them with tyranny and ingratitude [18:80]. So we intended for their Lord to replace for them better than him in purity, and nearer to mercy [18:81]’.

وإنما اشترك في الابانة لانه خشي والله لا يخشى لانه لا يفوته شئ ولا يمتنع عليه أحد أراده وإنما خشي الخضر من أن يحال بينه وبين ما امر فيه فلا يدرك ثواب الامضاء فيه، ووقع في نفسه أن الله تعالى ذكره جعله سببا لرحمة أبوي الغلام،

And rather he-as participated in the demonstration because he-as feared, and Allah-azwj does not fear, nor does He-azwj Lose anything nor can anyone prevent His-azwj Intention, and rather Al-Khizr feared from there being a barrier between him-as and he-as had being Commanded in and he-as would not receive the Rewards of the accomplishment regarding it, and it occurred within his-as self that Allah-azwj, Exalted is His-azwj Mention, Made him-as a cause for Mercy the parents of the boy.

فعمل فيه وسط الامر من البشرية مثل ما كان عمل في موسى عليه السلام لانه صار في الوقت مخبرا وكليم الله موسى عليه السلام مخبرا، ولم يكن ذلك باستحقاق للخضر عليه السلام للرتبة على موسى عليه السلام وهو أفضل من الخضر، بل كان لاستحقاق موسى للتبيين

He-as worked in it the middle matter from the humanity like what was the deed regarding Musa-as, and he-as came to be informed during the time, and the Speaker of Allah-azwj, Musa-as was informed, and that did not happen with the merit of Al-Khizr-as of the rank over Musa-as, and he-as is superior than Al-Khizr-as, but it was of Musa-as deserving the explanation.

ثم قال: ” وأما الجدار فكان لغلامين يتيمين في المدينة وكان تحته كنز لهما وكان أبوهما صالحا ” ولم يكن ذلك الكنز بذهب ولا فضة، ولكن كان لوحا من ذهب فيه مكتوب: عجب لمن أيقن بالموت كيف يفرح ؟ ! عجب لمن أيقن بالقدر كيف يحزن ؟ ! عجب لمن أيقن أن البعث حق كيف يظلم ؟ ! عجب لمن ؟ رى الدنيا وتصرف أهلها حالا بعد حال كيف يطمئن إليها ؟

Then he-as said: ‘And as for the wall, so it belonged to two orphaned boys in the city, and beneath it was a treasure for them, and their father was righteous. [18:82], and that treasure did not happen to be of gold, nor silver, but it was a tablet of gold wherein was inscribed: ‘Strange of the one the one certain of the death, how he is happy? Strange of the one who is certain of the Pre-determination, how he grieves? Strange of the one who is certain of the Resurrection as being true, how he is being unjust? Strange of the one who sees the world and it exchanges its people, state after a state, how he is covetous to it?

” وكان أبوهما صالحا ” كان بينهما وبين هذا الاب الصالح سبعون أبا، فحفظهما الله بصلاحه، ثم قال: ” فأراد ربك أن يبلغا أشدهما ويستخرجا كنزهما ” فتبرأ من الابانة في آخر القصص ونسب الارادة كلها إلى الله تعالى ذكره في ذلك، لانه لم يكن بقي شئ مما فعله

and their father was righteous. [18:82], – it was so that between the two (boys) and this righteous father, there were seventy fathers (generations), so Allah-azwj Preserved them due to his righteousness. Then he-as said: ‘So, your Lord Wanted both of them to reach maturity and to extract their treasure, [18:82]. So, he-as kept away from the demonstration at the end of the story, and attributed the intention, all of it to Allah-azwj, Exalted is His-azwj Mention, regarding that, because there did not happen to remain anything from what he-as had done.

فيخبر به بعد ويصير موسى عليه السلام به مخبرا ومصغيا إلى كلامه تابعا له فتجرد من الابانة والارادة تجرد العبد المخلص، ثم صار متصلا مما أتاه من نسبة الابانة في أول القصة ومن ادعاء الاشتراك في ثاني القصة فقال: ” رحمة من ربك وما فعلته عن أمري ذلك تأويل ما لم تسطع عليه صبرا “

He-as was informed with it afterwards and Musa-as came to be informed with it, and they-as both paid attention to His-azwj Speech, being obedient to it. So, he-as was stripped from the demonstration and the intention, stripping of the sincere servant. Then he-as became connected from what He-azwj Gave him-as from a link of the demonstration in the first story, and from fulfilling the participation in the second story, so He-azwj Said: ‘being a Mercy from your Lord. And I did not do it from my own accord. That is the explanation of what you were not able on being patient upon’ [18:82]’.

ثم قال جعفر بن محمد عليه السلام: إن أمر الله تعالى ذكره لا يحمل على المقائيس، ومن حمل أمر الله على المقائيس هلك وأهلك، إن أول معصية ظهرت الابانة من إبليس اللعين حين أمر الله تعالى ذكره ملائكته بالسجود لآدم،

Then Ja’far-asws Bin Muhammad-asws said: ‘The Command of Allah-azwj, Exalted is His-azwj Mention, cannot be borne upon the analogies, and the one who bear a Command of Allah-azwj upon the analogies will be destroyed and destroy (others). The first disobedience which appeared was the demonstration from Iblees-la the accursed when Allah-azwj, Exalted is His-azwj Mention, Commanded His-azwj Angels with the Sajdah to Adam-as.

فسجدوا وأبي إبليس اللعين أن يسجد، فقال عزوجل: ” ما منعك أن لا تسجد إذ أمرتك قال أنا خير منه خلقتني من نار وخلقته من طين ” فكان أول كفره قوله: ” أنا خير منه ” ثم قياسه بقوله: ” خلقتني من نار وخلقته من طين “

They did Sajdah, but Iblees-la refused to do Sajdah. Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Said: “What prevented you to perform Sajdah when I Commanded you?” He (Iblees) said, ‘I am better than him. You Created me from fire and Created him from clay’ [7:12]. Thus, the first Kufr were his-la words, ‘I am better than him. – then he-la analogised by his-la words, ‘You Created me from fire and Created him from clay’ [7:12].

فرده الله عزوجل عن جواره ولعنه وسماه رجيما، وأقسم بعزته لا يقيس أحد في دينه إلا قرنه مع عدوه إبليس في أسفل درك من النار

Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Expelled him-la from His-azwj Vicinity, and Cursed him-la and Named his-la as ‘Pelted’, and I-asws swear by His-azwj Mighty and no one will analogise in his religion except Iblees-la will be paired him along with his enemies in the lowest level of the Fire’’.[19]

3 – ير: محمد بن الحسين، عن موسى بن سعدان، عن عبد الله بن القاسم، عن صباح المزني، عن الحارث بن حصيرة، عن حبة العرني قال: سمعت أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام) يقول إن يوشع بن نون (عليه السلام) كان وصي موسى بن عمران (عليه السلام) وكانت ألواح موسى (عليه السلام) من زمرد أخضر، فلما غضب موسى (عليه السلام) ألقى الالواح من يده، فمنها ما تكسر، ومنها ما بقي، ومنها ما ارتفع،

Muhammad Bin Al Husayn, from Musa Bin Sa’dan, from Abdullah Bin Al Qasim, from Sabah Al Mazny, from Al Haris Bin Haseyra, from Haba Al Arny who said,

‘I heard Amir Al-Momineen-asws saying that Yoshua Bin Noon-as was the successor-as of Musa‑as Bin Imran-as and the Tablets of Musa-as were of green emeralds. When Musa-as was angry, he-as threw the Tablets from his-as hands, so, from these are what broke, and from these are what remained, and from these are what were Raised.

فلما ذهب عن موسى (عليه السلام) الغضب قال يوشع بن نون (عليه السلام): أعندك تبيان ما في الالواح ؟ قال: نعم، فلم يزل يتوارثها رهط من بعد رهط حتى وقعت في أيدي أربعة رهط من اليمن، وبعث الله محمدا (صلى الله عليه وآله) بتهامة وبلغهم الخبر، فقالوا: ما يقول هذا النبي ؟ قيل: ينهى عن الخمر والزنا، ويأمر بمحاسن الاخلاق وكرم الجوار، فقالوا: هذا أولى بما في أيدينا منا،

When the anger subsided from Musa-as, Yoshua Bin Noon-as said: ‘Is there explanation with you-saww of what is in the Tablets?’ He-as said: ‘Yes’. This did not cease to be inherited by a family after a family until it fell in the hands of a group of four from Yemen, and Allah-azwj Sent Muhammad-saww at Tahama, and the news reached them. They said, ‘What is this Prophet-saww saying?’ It was said, ‘He-saww prohibits from the wine and the adultery, and instructs with the good manners and the benevolence with the neighbours’. They said, ‘This is the first of what is in our hands’.

فاتفقوا أن يأتوه في شهر كذا وكذا، فأوحى الله إلى جبرئيل ائت النبي فأخبره، فأتاه فقال: إن فلانا وفلانا وفلانا وفلانا و رثواألواح موسى (عليه السلام) وهم يأتوك في شهر كذا وكذا، في ليلة كذا وكذا، فسهر لهم تلك الليلة،

They agreed that they would go to him-saww during such and such month. Allah-azwj Revealed to Jibraeel-as to go to the Prophet and inform him-saww. He-as said: ‘So and so, and so and so, and so and so, and so and so have inherited the Tablets of Musa-as and they would be coming to you-saww during such and such month, during such and such night, so keep awake for them on that night’.

فجاء الركب فدقوا عليه الباب وهم يقولون: يا محمد، قال: نعم يا فلان بن فلان، ويا فلان بن فلان، ويا فلان بن فلان، ويا فلان بن فلان، أين الكتاب الذي توارثتموه من يوشع بن نون وصي موسى بن عمران ؟ قالوا: نشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له، وأنك محمدا رسول الله، والله ما علم به أحد قط منذ وقع عندنا قبلك،

The riders came and knocked the door to him-saww and they said, ‘O Muhammad-saww!’ He-saww said: ‘Yes, O so and so, and so and so, and so and so, and so and so! Where is the Book which you inherited from Yoshua-as Bin Noon-as, successor-as of Musa-as Bin Imran-as?’ They said, ‘We testify that there is no god except Allah-azwj and its limit is that there is no associate for Him‑azwj, and you-saww Muhammad-saww are Rasool-saww of Allah-azwj. By Allah-azwj! No one knew of it at all before you-saww since it fell into our hands’.

قال: فأخذه النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله) فإذا هو كتاب بالعبرانية دقيق ، فدفعه إلي، ووضعته عند رأسي فأصبحت بالغداة وهو كتاب بالعربية جليل، فيه علم ما خلق الله منذ قامت السماوات والارض إلى أن تقوم الساعة فعلمت ذلك

He-asws said: ‘The Prophet-saww took it and it was a Book in superfine Hebrew and handed it over to me-asws, and I-asws placed it under my-asws head, and the next morning I-asws woke up and it was a Book in majestic Arabic, wherein was knowledge of what Allah-azwj had Created since the skies and the earth were established, up to the establishment of the Hour, and I-asws know that’’.[20]

 

ومن الكتاب المذكور بحذف الاسناد قال: سهل بن حنيف الانصاري أقبلنا مع خالد بن الوليد فانتهينا إلى دير فيه ديراني فيما بين الشام والعراق، فأشرف علينا وقال: من أنتم ؟ قلنا: نحن المسلمون امة محمد (صلى الله عليه وآله)، فنزل إلينا فقال: أين صاحبكم ؟ فأتينا به إلى خالد بن الوليد فسلم على خالد فرد (عليه السلام)،

And from the (above) mentioned book, by a deleted chain, said,

‘Sahl Bin Hunayf the Helper said, ‘We returned with Khalid Bin Al-Waleed and we ended up to a monastery wherein was a Monk, in what is between Syria and Iraq. He looked out to us and said, ‘Who are you?’ We said, ‘We are Muslims of the community of Muhammad-saww’. He descended to us and said, ‘Where is your master?’ So, we came with him to Khalid Bin Al-Waleed. He greeted unto Khalid and he returned the greeting unto him.

قال: وإذا هو شيخ كبير فقال له خالد: كم أتى عليك ؟ قال: مائتا سنة وثلاثون سنة قال: منذكم سكنت ديرك هذا ؟ قال: سكته منذ نحو من ستين سنة قال: هل لقيت أحدا لقي عيسى ؟ قال: نعم لقيت رجلين قال: وما قالا لك ؟

He (the narrator) said, ‘And he was a big old man, so Khalid said to him, ‘How many (years) have come upon you?’ He said, ‘Two hundred and thirty years’. He said, ‘Since how many (years) have you dwelled in this monastery of yours?’ He said, ‘I have dwelled in it since about sixty years’. He said, ‘Have you met anyone who had met Isa-as?’ He said, ‘Yes, I met two men’. He said, ‘And what did they say to you?’

قال: قال لي أحدهما: إن عيسى عبد الله ورسوله وروحه وكلمته ألقاها إلى مريم أمته، وإن عيسى مخلوق غير خالق فقبلت منه وصدقته، وقال لي الآخر: إن عيسى هو ربه فكذبته ولعنته

He said, ‘One of them said to me, ‘Isa-as is a servant of Allah-azwj and His-azwj Rasool-as and His‑azwj Spirit, and His-azwj Word Cast unto Maryam-as his-as mother-as, and that Isa-as is a created being not the Creator’. I accepted from him and ratified him’. And the other one said that Isa-as was his Lord-azwj, so I belied him and cursed him’.

فقال خالد: إن هذا لعجب كيف يختلفان وقد لقيا عيسى ؟ قال الديراني: اتبع هذا هواه وزين له الشيطان سوء عمله، واتبع ذلك الحق وهداه الله عزوجل

Khalid said, ‘This is strange! How come they differed and they had both met Isa-as?’ The Monk said, ‘This one followed his whims and the Satan-la adorned it for him his evil deed, and that one pursued the truth and Allah-azwj Mighty and Majestic Guided him’.

قال: هل قرأت الانجيل ؟ قال: نعم قال: فالتوراة ؟ قال: نعم قال: فآمنت بموسى ؟ قال نعم قال فهل لك في الاسلام أن تشهد أن محمدا رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) وتؤمن به ؟ قال: آمنت قبل أن تؤمن به، وإن كنت لم أسمعه ولم أره

He said, ‘Have you read the Evangel?’ He said, ‘Yes’. He said, ‘The Torah?’ He said, ‘Yes’. He said, ‘Did you believe in Musa-as?’ He said, ‘Yes’. He said, ‘So, is there for in Islam that you testify that Muhammad-saww is a Rasool-saww of Allah-azwj and you believe in him-saww?’ He said, ‘I believe before you believed in him-saww, and I had not heard him and had not seen him’.

قال: فأنت الساعة تؤمن بمحمد (صلى الله عليه وآله) وبما جاء به ؟ قال: وكيف لا اومن به وقد قرأته في التوراة و الانجيل وبشرني به موسى وعيسى قال: فما مقامك في هذا الدير ؟

He said, ‘Do you at this moment believe in Muhammad-saww and in what he-saww came with?’ He said, ‘And how can I not believe in him-saww, and I had read it in the Torah, and the Evangel, and I was given glad tidings of him-saww by Musa-as and Isa-as’. He said, ‘So what is your position in this monastery?’

قال: فأين أذهب وأنا شيخ كبير ولم يكن لي عمر أنهض به وبلغني مجيئكم فكنت أنتظر أن ألقيكم والقي ليكم إسلامي واخبر كم أني على ملتكم، فما فعل نبيكم ؟

He said, ‘Wherever I go and I am a great sheykh, and there does not happen to be for me an age I can rise with him-saww, and it reached me (news) of your arrival, so I was awaiting to meet you all and cast my greetings unto you and inform you that I am upon your Religion. So, what is happening with your Prophet-saww?’

قالوا: توفي (صلى الله عليه وآله) قال: فأنت وصيه ؟ قال: لا ولكن من عشيرته وممن صحبه. قال: فمن بعثك إلى ههنا ؟ وصيه ؟ قال: لا ولكن خليفته، قال غير وصيه ؟ قال: نعم قال: فوصيه حي ؟

They said, ‘He-saww expired’. He said, ‘Are you his-saww successor-asws?’ He said, ‘No, but he-asws is from his-saww clan and from the ones who accompanied him-saww’. He said, ‘Who sent you to over here? His-saww successor-asws?’ He said, ‘No, by his-saww Caliph’. He said, ‘He is other than his-saww successor-asws?’

قال: نعم قال: فكيف ذلك ؟ قال: اجتمع الناس على هذا الرجل وهو رجل من غير عشيرته ومن صالحي الصحابة

He said, ‘Yes’. He said, ‘How did that happen?’ He said, ‘The people gathered upon this man and he was a man from other than his-saww clan and from the righteous companions’.

قال: وما أراك إلا أعجب من الرجلين اللذين اختلفا في عيسى ولقد لقياه وسمعابه، وهوذا أنتم قد خالفتم نبيكم وفعلتم مثل ما فعل ذلك الرجل

He said, ‘And I do not see except as even stranger than the two men, those who had differed regarding Isa-as, and they had met him-as and heard him-as, and it is that you have opposed your Prophet-saww and did similar to what that man had done’.

قال: فالتفت خالد إلى من يليه وقال: هو والله ذاك اتبعنا هوانا والله، وجعلنا رجلا مكان رجل، ولولا ماكان بيني وبين علي من الخشونة على عهد النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله) مامالات عليه أحدا

He said, ‘Khalid turned around to the ones behind him and said, ‘By Allah-azwj, it is that. We had followed our whims by Allah-azwj, and we made a man to be in place of (another) man, and had it not been for the rudeness what was between me and Ali-asws in the era of the Prophet-saww, I would not have made anyone a ruler upon him-asws’.

فقال له الاشتر النخعي مالك بن الحارث: ولم كان ذلك بينك وبين علي ؟ وما كان ؟ قال خالد: نافسته في الشجاعة ونافسني فيها، وكان له من السوابق والقرابة ما لم يكن لي، فداخلني حمية قريش فكان ذلك ولقد عاتبتني في ذلك ام سلمة زوجة النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وهي الي ناصحة فلم أقبل منها

Al-Ashtar Al-Nakhaie Malik Bin Al-Haris said to him, ‘And why was that so between you and Ali-asws? And what happened?’ Khalid said, ‘I competed with him-asws in the bravery and he-asws competed with me with regards to it, and there was for him the precedence and the relationship what did not happen to be for me. The disdain of Quraysh entered into me, and Umm Salma-ra wife of the Prophet-saww had reproached me regarding that, and she-ra was an adviser to me, but I did not accept from her-ra’.

ثم عطف على الديراني فقال: هلم حديثك وما تخبر به قال: اخبرك أني كنت من أهل دين كان جديدا فخلق حتى لم يبق منهم من أهل الحق إلا الرجلان أوالثلائة، ويخلق دينكم حتى لا يبقى منه إلا الرجلان أو الثلاثة،

Then he showed kindness upon the Monk and he said, ‘Continue your narration and what you were informing with’. He said, ‘I inform you that I was from the people of a religion which was new, so they fabricated until there did not remain from them, from the people of the truth, except for two men or three, and your Religion would be fabricated until there does not remain from it except for two men or three.

واعلموا أنه بموت نبيكم قدتر كتم من الاسلام درجة، وستتر كون بموت وسي نبيكم من الاسلام درجة اخرى حتى إذا لم يبق أحد رأى نبيكم، وسيخلق دينكم حتى تفسد صلاتكم وحجكم وغزوكم وصومكم، وترتفع الامانة والزكاة منكم،

And know that by the death of your Prophet-saww has left you all with a rank from Islam, and you will be leaving by the death of the successor-asws of your Prophet-saww, another rank from Islam, until there does not remain anyone on the view of your Prophet-saww; and your Religion will be fabricated until your Salat, and your Hajj, and your military expedition, and the Fasts are spoilt, and the entrustments and the Zakat will be raised from you.

ولن تزال فيكم بقية ما بقي كتاب ربكم عزوجل فيكم، وما بقي فيكم أحد من أهل بيت نبيكم، فإذا ارتفع هذان منكم لم يبق من دينكم إلا الشهادتان: شهادة التوحيد وشهادة أن محمدا رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله)،

And no remainder (remnant of Religion) will cease to be among you so long as there remains among you the Book of your Lord-azwj Mighty and Majestic among you and for as long as there remain among you one from the People-asws of the Household of your Prophet-saww. But, when these two are raised from you, there will not remain from your Religion except for the two testimonies – Testimony of the Tawheed and the testimony that Muhammad-saww is a Rasool-saww of Allah-azwj.

فعند ذلك تقوم قيامتكم وقيامتة غير كم، ويأتيكم ماتو عدون، ولم تقم الساعة إلا عليكم لانكم آخر الامم بكم تختم الدنيا وعليكم تقوم الساعة

During that, your Qiyamah will be established and the Qiyamah of others, and there will come to you what you have been promised, and the Hour will not be established except upon you (Muslims), because you are the last of the communities. By you the world would end and upon you the Hour would be established’.

فقال له خالد: قد أخبرنا بذلك نبينا فأخبرنا بأعجب شئ رأيته منذ سكنت ديرك هذا وقبل أن تسكنه قال لقد رأيت مالا احصي من العجائب وأقبلت ما لااحصي من الخلق قال: فحد ثنا بعض ما تذكره

Khalid said to him, ‘Our Prophet-saww had informed us with that, but inform us of the strangest thing you have seen since you dwelled in this monastery of yours, and before you settled in it’. He said, ‘I have seen what cannot be counted from the wonder and have met people what cannot be counted’. He said, ‘Narrate to us some of what you mentioned’.

قال: نعم كنت أخرج بين الليالي إلى غدير كان في سفح الجبل أتوضؤ منه وأتزود من الماء ما أصعد به معي إلى ديري، وكنت أستريح إلى النزول فيه بين العشائين فأنا عنده ذات ليلة فإذا أنا برجل قد اقبل فسلم فرددت (عليه السلام) فقال: هل مربك قوم معهم غنم وراعي أو حسستهم ؟ قلت: لا

He said, ‘Yes. I used to go out between the two nights to a well which was at the base of the mountain to wash from it, and get a provision of the water what I could ascend with along with me to my monastery, and I used to rest to the descent therein between the two evenings. I was there one night and there was a man who had come, so I greeted him, and he returned the greetings. He said, ‘Did there pass by you a people having sheep with them behind me, or did you sense them?’ I said, ‘No’.

قال: إن قوما من العرب مروا بغنم فيها مملوك لي يرعاها فاستاقوا وذهبوا بالعبد قلت: ومن أنت ؟ قال: أنا رجل من بني إسرائيل قال فما دينك ؟ قلت: أنت فما دينك ؟ قال: ديني اليهودية قلت: وأنا ديني النصرانية فأعرضت عنه بوجهي قال لي: مالك فإنكم أنتم ركبتم الخطاء ودخلتم فيه وتركتم الصواب، ولم يزل يحاورني

He said, ‘There is a group of Arabs who passed by with sheep wherein was a slave of mine pasturing these. But, they ushered these and went with the slave’. I said, ‘And who are you?’ He said, ‘I am a man from the children of Israel’. He said, ‘So what is your religion?’ I said, ‘You, what is your religion?’ He said, ‘My religion is the Judaism’. I said, ‘And I, my religion is the Christianity, but I turned away from it with my face’. He said, ‘What is the matter with you, for you all, you indulged in the mistakes (sins) and entered into it, and you neglected the correctness?’ And he did not cease to talk to me.

فقلت له هل لك أن نرفع أيدينا ونبتهل فأينا كان على الباطل دعونا الله أن ينزل عليه نارا تحرقه من السماء ؟ فرفعنا أيدينا فما استتم الكلام حتى نظرت إليه يلتهت نارا وما تحته من الارض،

I said to him, ‘Is it for you that we raise our hands and beseech, whichever of us was upon the falsehood, we supplicate to Allah-azwj Sends down a fire upon him from the sky to incinerate him?’ So, we raised our hands and the speech had not completed until I looked at him inflamed in fire and whatever was beneath him from the ground.

فلم ألبث أن أقبل رجل فسلم فرددت (عليه السلام) فقال: هل رأيت رجلا من صفته كيت وكيت ؟ قلت نعم وحدثته قال: كذبت، و لكنك قتلت أخي يا عدو الله وكان مسلما فجعل يسبني فجعلت أرده عن نفسي بالحجارة، وأقبل يشتمني ويشتم المسيح ومن هو على دين المسيح

It was not long because a man came, so I greeted and he returned the greetings and he said, ‘Have you seen a man and his description is such and such?’ I said, ‘Yes’, and I narrated to him. He said, ‘You are lying! But, you killed my brother, O enemy of Allah-azwj’. And he was a Muslim, and he went on cussing me, and I went on warding him off from myself with the stones, and he kept on cussing me and cussing the Messiah-as and the ones who was upon the Religion of the Messiah-as.

فبينا هو كذلك إذا نظرت إليه يحترق، وقد أخذته النار التي أخذت أخاه، ثم هوت به النار في الارض، فبينما أنا كذلك قائما أتعجب إذ أقبل رجل ثالث فسلم فرددت (عليه السلام) فقال: هل رأيت رجلين من حالهما وصفتهما كيت وكيت ؟ قلت: نعم وكرهت أن اخبره كما أخبرت أخاه فيقاتلني فقلت: هلم اريك أخويك، فانتهيت به إلى موضعهما فنظر إلى الارض يخرج منها الدخان

While he was like that when I looked at him being burnt, and the fire had seized him, that which had seized his brother. Then the fire fell him onto the ground. While I was standing like that in wonderment when a third man came over. He greeted, so I returned his greeting, and he said, ‘Have you seen two me, their states and their descriptions are such and such?’ I said, ‘Yes’, and I dislike to inform him just as I had informed his brother, lest he kills me’. I said, ‘Come, I will show you your brother’, and I ended up with him to their places. He looked at the ground, smoke coming out from it.

فقال: ما هذه ؟ فأخبرته فقال: والله لئن أجابني أخواي بتصديقك لاتبعتك في دينك، ولئن كان غير ذلك لاقتلنك أو تقتلني فصاح به: يا دانيال أحق ما يقول هذا الرجل ؟ قال: نعم يا هارون فصدقه فقال: أشهد أن عيسى بن مريم روح الله وكلمته وعبده ورسوله

He said, ‘What is this?’ So, I informed him. He said, ‘By Allah-azwj! If only my brothers had answered me with ratifying you they would have followed you in your religion, and while it was other than that, either I kill you or you kill me. He shouted at him, ‘O Daniel! Is it true what this man is saying?’ He said, ‘Yes, O Haroun! Ratify him’. He said, ‘I testify that Isa-as Bin Maryam-as is a Spirit of Allah-azwj, and His-azwj Words, and His-azwj servant, and His-azwj Rasool‑saww’.

قلت: الحمدلله الذي هداك قال فإني أو اخيك في الله، وإن لي أهلا وولدا وغنيمة، ولولاهم لسحت معك في الارض ولكن مفارقتي عليهم شديدة، وأرجو أن أكون في القيامة بهم مأجورا، ولعلي أنطلق فآتي بهم فأكون بالقرب معك،

I said, ‘The Praise is for Allah-azwj Who Guided you’. He said, ‘I am your brother for the Sake of Allah-azwj, and that for me there is a wife, and children, and sheep, and had it not been for them I would have been with you in the land, but my separation is severe upon them, and I wish that I would happen to be Rewarded with them in the Qiyamah, and perhaps I shall go and come with them to come to be near you’.

فانطلق فغاب عني ليلا (ليالي خ ل) ثم أتاني فهتف بي ليلة من الليالي، فإذا هو قد جاء و معه أهله وغنمه فضرب له خيمة ههنا بالقرب مني فلم أزل أنزل إليه في آناء الليل و أتعاهده والاقيه وكان أخ صدق في الله،

He went and was absent from me for some nights, then came to me and shouted for me on a night from the nights, and there he was having had come and with him was his wife, and his sheep. So, I struck a tent for him over there with the nearness from me. I did not cease to be hospitable to him in the darkness of the night and sitting with him, and he was a sincere brother for the Sake of Allah-azwj.

فقال لي ذات ليلة: يا هذا إني قرأت في التوراة، فإذا هو صفة محمد النبي الامي فقلت: وأنا قرأت صفته في التوراة والانجيل فآمنت به، وعلمته به من الانجيل، وأخبرته بصفته في الانحيل، فآمنا أنا وهو وأحببناه و تمنينا لقاءه

One day he said to him, ‘O you! I read in the Torah, and it turned out to be the description of Muhammad-saww the Prophet-saww’. I said, ‘And I (also) read his-saww description in the Torah and the Evangel, so I believed in him-saww’. And I taught him about him-saww from the Evangel and informed him of his-saww description in the Evangel, so both of us believed, me and him, and we loved each other and wished for meeting each other.

قال: فمكث كذلك زمانا وكان من أفضل ما رأيت، وكنت أستأنس إليه، وكان من فضله أنه يخرج بغنمه يرعاها فينزل بالمكان المجدب فيصير ما حوله أخضر من البقل، وكان إذا جاء المطر جمع غنمه فيصير حوله وحوله غنمه وخيمته مثل الاكليل من أثر المطر ولا يصيب خيمته ولاغنمه منه،

He said, ‘It remained like that for a time, and it was from the best of what I had seen, and I used to be comforted to it, and it was from his merits that he would go out with his sheep to pasture them, and he would stay at a barren place, and it would become green what is around it, from the vegetation, and it was so that when the rain came, his sheep would gather, it would transform around him, and around his sheep and his tent, similar to the garland from the effects of the rain, and it would not hit his tent nor his sheep from it.

فإذا كان الصيف كان على رأسه أينما توجه سحابة وكان بين الفضل، كثير الصوم والصلاة قال: فحضرته الوفاة فدعيت إليه فقلت له: ماكان سبب مرضك ولم أعلم به ؟ قال: إني ذكرت خطيئة كنت قارفتها في حداثتي فغشي علي ثم أفقت ثم ذكرت خطيئة اخرى فغشي علي وأورثني ذلك مرضا فلست أدري ما حالى،

So, when it was the summer, there would be a cloud over his head wherever he would be headed, and he was between the Grace, frequent of the Fasting and the Salat. The death presented to him and he called me to him, so I said to him, ‘What was the reason of your illness, and why did I not know of it?’ He said, ‘I remembered a mistake (sin) I had committed in my youth. There was faintness upon me, then I awoke, then I remembered my other mistake (sin), so there was faintness upon me and I inherited that illness, so I do not know what my state it’.

ثم قال لي: فإن لقيت محمدا (صلى الله عليه وآله) نبي الرحمة فاقرأه مني السلام، وإن لم تلقه ولقيت وصيه فاقرأه مني السلام وهي حاجتي إليك ووصيتي.

Then he said to me, ‘If you were to meet Muhammad-saww, the Prophet-saww of Mercy, then convey the greeting from me, and if you do not meet him-saww and meet his-saww successor‑asws, then convey the greeting from me, and it is my need to you and my bequest’.

قال الديراني: وإني مودعكم إلى وصي محمد (صلى الله عليه وآله) مني ومن صاحبي السلام

The Monk said, ‘And I am depositing to you all the greeting to the successor-asws of Muhammad-saww from me and my companion.

قال سهل بن حنيف: فلما رجعنا إلى المدينة لقيت عليا (عليه السلام) فأخبرته خبر الديراني وخبر خالد وما أودعنا إليه الديراني من السلام منه ومن صاحبه قال: فسمعته يقول: وعليهما وعلى من مثلهما السلام، وعليك يا سهل بن حنيف السلام،

Sahl Bin Huneyf said, ‘When we returned to Medina, I met Ali-asws and informed him-asws of the news of the Monk, and news of Khalid of what we had been deposited with from the Monk of the greeting from him and from his companion. I heard him-asws saying: ‘And upon them both, and upon the like of them be the greeting, and upon you, O Sahl Bin Huneyf, be the greeting’.

وما رأيته اكترث بما أخبرته من خالد بن الوليد وما قال، وما رد علي فيه شيئا غير أنه قال: يا سهل بن حنيف: إن الله تبارك وتعالى بعث محمدا (صلى الله عليه وآله) فلم يبق في الارض شئ إلا علم أنه رسول الله إلا شقي الثقلين وعصاتهما

And I did not see him-asws interested in what I had informed him from Khalid Bin Al-Waleed and what he said, and he-asws did not return unto me anything regarding him apart from him saying, ‘O Sahl Bin Huneyf! Allah-azwj Blessed and Exalted Sent Muhammad-saww, and there did not remain anything in the earth except it knew that he-saww is a Rasool-saww of Allah-azwj except for a wretched on of the Jinn and humans and their disobedient ones’.

قال سهل: وما في الارض من شئ فاخره إلا شقي الثقلين وعصاتهما،

Sahl said, ‘And there is nothing in the earth who would withhold it, except for a wretched one of the Jinn and humans and their disobedient one’.

قال سهل: فعبرنا زمانا ونسيت ذلك، فلما كان من أمر علي (عليه السلام) ما كان توجهنا معه فلما رجعنا من صفين نزلنا أرضا قفرا ليس بها ماء فشكونا ذلك إلى علي (عليه السلام) فانطلق يمشي على قدميه حتى انتهينا إلى موضع كان يعرفه فقال: احفروا ههنا فحفرنا فإذا بصخرة صماء عظيمة

Sahl said, ‘We crossed over an era and we forgot that. When it was from the command of Ali‑asws what happened, we headed with him. When we returned from (the battle of) Siffeen, we encamped at a wilderness, not having any water with it. We complained of that to Ali-asws, and he-asws went walking upon his-asws feet until we ended up to a place (as if) he-asws recognised it. He-asws said: ‘Dig over here’, and there was a large solid rock there.

قال: اقلعوها، قال: فجهدنا أن نقلعها فما استطعنا قال: فتبسم أمير المؤمنين صلوات الله عليه من عجزنا عنها، ثم أهوى إليها بيديه جميعا، كأنما كانت في يده كرة، فإذا تحتها عين بيضاء كأنها من شدة بياضها اللجين المجلو فقال دونكم فاشربوا واسقوا وتزودوا ثم آذنوني بها

He-asws said: ‘Uproot it’. But, we struggled to uproot it, but we were not able to’. So, Amir Al-Momineen-asws smiled from our frustration from it, then he-asws overthrew it by his-asws hands together, as if it was a ball in his-asws hand. Beneath it was a clear spring as if it was pure silver from its whiteness. He said, ‘Be at its side and drink, and quench, and take provision, then leave me-asws with it’.

قال ففعلنا ثم أتيناه فأقبل يمشي إليها بغير رداء ولا حذاء، فتناول الصخرة بيده، ثم دحى بها في فم العين فألقمها إياها، ثم حثا بيده التراب عليها، وكان ذلك بعين الديراني، وكانت بالقرب منها ومنا، يرانا ويسمع كلامنا

He said, ‘We did that, then we came to him-asws, and he-asws returned walking towards it without a cloak nor shoes. He-asws grabbed the rock by his-asws hand, then rolled it in the mouth of the spring, and it swallowed it. Then he-asws shoved the soil upon it. And it was that spring of the Monk, and he was near from it and from us, watching us and hearing our speech.

قال: فنزل فقال أين صاحبكم ؟ فانطلقنا به إلى على (عليه السلام) فقال أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله، وأشهد أن محمدا رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله)، و أنك وصي محمد (صلى الله عليه وآله)، ولقد كنت أرسلت بالسلام عني وعن صاحب لي مات كان أوصاني بذلك مع جيش لكم منذ كذا وكذا من السنين

He said, ‘We descended, and he said, ‘Where is your Master-asws?’ So, we went with him to Ali-asws, and he said, ‘I testify that there is no god except Allah-azwj, and I testify that Muhammad-saww is a Rasool-saww of Allah-azwj, and you-asws are a successor-asws of Muhammad‑saww, and I had sent the greetings from me and from a companion of mine who has died he had bequeathed me with that, with an army of yours since such and such number of years’.

قال سهل: فقلت يا أمير المؤمنين: هذا الديراني الذي كنت أبلغتك عنه وعن صاحيه السلام قال وذكر الحديث يوم مر رنا مع خالد فقال له علي (عليه السلام): وكيف علمت أني وصي رسول الله ؟

Sahl said, ‘I said, ‘O Amir Al-Momineen-asws! This is the Monk who I had delivered the greeting from him and from his companion’, and mentioned the narration of the day we had passed by him with Khalid. Ali-asws said to him: ‘And how did you know that I-asws am a successor-asws of Rasool-Allah-saww?’

قال: أخبرني أبي وكان قدا تي عليه من العمر مثل ما اتي علي، عن أبيه، عن جده عمن قاتل مع يوشع بن نون وصي موسى، حين توجه فقاتل الجبارين بعد موسى بأربعين سنة أنه مر بهذا المكان وأصحابه عطشوا، فشكوا إليه العطش، فقال: أما إن بقربكم عينا نزلت من الجنة استخرجها آدم

He said, ‘My father informed me, and there had come upon him from the age like what has come upon me, from his father, from his grandfather from the one who fought alongside Yoshua-as Bin Noon-as successor-as of Musa-as wherever he-as headed and fought the tyrants after Musa-as for forty years. He-as passed by this place and his-as companion was thirsty, so he complained to him-as of the thirst. He-as said, ‘Nearby you there is a spring from the Paradise. Adam-as had extracted it.

فقال إليها يوشع بن نون فنزع عنها الصخرة، ثم شرب وشرب أصحابه وسقوا ثم قلب الصخرة وقال لاصحابه: لا يقلبها إلا نبي أو وصي نبي،

He said, ‘Yoshua Bin Noon-as snatched the rock, then he-as drank and his-as companion drank, and they quenched (their animals), then turned back the rock, and he-as said to his-as companion, ‘None can overturn it except a Prophet-as, or a successor-as of a Prophet-as’.

قال: فتخلف نفر من أصحاب يوشع بعد ما مضى فجهدوا الجهد على أن يجدوا موضعها فلم يجدوه وأنما بني هذا الدير على هذه العين وعلى بركتها وطليتها فعلمت حين استخرجتها أنك وصي رسول الله أحمد الذي كنت أطلب، وقد أحببت الجهاد معك

He said, ‘A number of companions of Yoshua-as differed after what he-as had expired, and they struggled a struggle upon that they would renew its place, but they could not find it, and rather the clan of this monastery is upon this spring and upon its Blessings and its hills, so I knew when you-asws extracted it and you-asws are a successor-asws of Rasool-saww of Allah-azwj Ahmad-saww whom I had sought, and would love to fight alongside you-asws’.

قال: فحمله على فرس وأعطاه سلاحا وخرج مع الناس، وكان ممن استشهد يوم النهر  قال: وفرح أصحاب علي بحديث الديراني فرحا شديدا

He said, ‘He-asws loaded him upon a horse and gave him a weapon and he went out with the people, and he was from the ones who were martyred on the day of (the battle of) Nahrwan’. The companions of Ali-asws rejoiced with the narration of the Monk with intense happiness’.

قال: وتخلف قوم بعد ما رحل العسكر وطلبوا العين فلم يدروا أين موضعها، فلحقوا بالناس وقال صعصعة بن صوحان: وأنا رأيت الديراني يوم نزل إلينا حين قلب علي الصخرة عن العين وشرب منها الناس، وسمعت حديثه لعلي (عليه السلام)، وحدثني ذلك اليوم سهل بن حنيف بهذا الحديث حين مر وامع خالد

He said, ‘And a group stayed back after the departure of the army and they sought the spring, but they could not know where its place was, and they caught up with the people, and Sa’sa Bin Sowhan said, ‘And I saw the Monk on the day he descended to us when Ali-asws overturned the rock from the spring and the people drank from it, and I heard him narrating it to Ali-asws, and Sahl Bin Hunayf narrated to me on that day with this Hadeeth when they passed by with Khalid’’.[21]
