The Absolute
اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ {2}
Allah is Al-Samad (The Absolute) [112:2]
ابن الوليد، عن الصفار، عن ابن عيسى، عن الحسين بن سعيد، عن النضر، عن ابن حميد رفعه قال: سئل علي بن الحسين عليه السلام عن التوحيد فقال: إن الله تعالى علم أنه يكون في آخر الزمان أقوام متعمقون فأنزل الله تعالى: ” قل هو الله أحد الله الصمد ” والآيات من سورة الحديد إلى قوله: ” وهو عليم بذات الصدور ” فمن رام ما وراء ذلك فقد هلك
‘Ali-asws Bin Al-Husayn-asws was asked about the Tawheed, so he-asws said: ‘Allah-azwj the Exalted Knew that there would be coming into being at the end of times, of in-depth thinking, therefore Allah-azwj the Exalted Revealed: Say: ‘He, Allah, is One [112:1] Allah is Al-Samad [112:2], and the Verses from Surah Al-Hadeed up to His-azwj Words: and He is a Knower of the contents of the chests [57:6]. Whoever aims for what is behind that, so he is destroyed’’.[1]
علي بن محمد، ومحمد بن الحسن، عن سهل بن زياد، عن محمد بن الوليد ولقبه شباب الصيرفي، عن داود بن القاسم الجعفري قال: قلت لابي جعفر الثاني عليه السلام: جعلت فداك ما الصمد؟ قال: السيد المصمود إليه في القليل والكثير
Ali ibn Muhammad and Muhammad ibn al-Hassan has narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn al-Walid, whose title was Shabab al-Sayrafi from Dawud ibn al-Qasim al-Ja’fari who said the following:
‘Once I asked Imam Abu Ja’far Al-Sani-asws, ‘May Allah keep my soul in your-asws service, what is the meaning of the word Al-Samad?’ The Imam replied, ‘Al-Samad means the Lord-azwj to Whom one turns for help, in a big or small matter.’’[2]
