وَ تَأَمَّلْتُ فِيهِ مَوْلِدَ قَائِمِنَا وَ غِيبَتَهُ وَ إِبْطَاءَهُ وَ طُولَ عُمُرِهِ وَ بَلْوَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ بِهِ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ فِي ذَلِكَ الزَّمَانِ وَ تَوَلُّدَ الشُّكُوكِ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مِنْ طُولِ غَيْبَتِهِ وَ ارْتِدَادَ أَكْثَرِهِمْ عَنْ دِينِهِمْ وَ خَلْعَهُمْ رِبْقَةَ الْإِسْلَامِ مِنْ أَعْنَاقِهِمُ الَّتِي قَالَ اللَّهُ تَقَدَّسَ ذِكْرُهُ وَ كُلَّ إِنسانٍ أَلْزَمْناهُ طائِرَهُ فِي عُنُقِهِ يَعْنِي الْوَلَايَةَ فَأَخَذَتْنِي الرِّقَّةُ وَ اسْتَوْلَتْ عَلَيَّ الْأَحْزَانُ
(6th Imam-asws said in a lengthy Hadith): ‘I-asws pondered on it, on the coming (to the world) of our-asws Qaim-ajfj and his-ajfj delaying, and the length of his-ajfj age, and the trials of the Momineen by it, from after it during that time, and the birth of doubts in their hearts due to the length of his-ajfj occultation and ‘ارْتِدَادَ’ the reneging of most of them away from their religion, and the noose of Al-Islam in their necks which Allah-azwj, Holy is His-azwj Mention, Said: And every human, We Fastened to him his fate in his neck, [17:13] – meaning the Wilayah. So the tenderness seized me-asws and the griefs took over upon me-asws (an extract).[1]
