Judge, Judgement
يَا لَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ الْقَاضِيَةَ {27}
Oh, if only it (death) had not been the judge [69:27]
يج، الخرائج و الجرائح هَارُونُ بْنُ رِئَابٍ قَالَ: كَانَ لِي أَخٌ جَارُودِيٌ فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع فَقَالَ لِي مَا فَعَلَ أَخُوكَ الْجَارُودِيُّ قُلْتُ صَالِحٌ هُوَ مَرْضِيٌّ عِنْدَ الْقَاضِي وَ الْجِيرَانِ فِي الْحَالاتِ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ لَا يُقِرُّ بِوَلَايَتِكُمْ
(The book) ‘Al Kharaij Wa Al Jaraih’ – Haroun Bin Ri’ab who said,
‘There was a brother of mine who was Jaroudy (see note below). I entered to see Abu Abdullah-asws. He-asws said to me: ‘What happened to your brother, the Jaroudy?’ I said, ‘Healthy. He is pleasing in the presence of ‘الْقَاضِي’ the judge and the neighbours in the situation, apart from that he does not acknowledge with your-asws Wilayah’.
فَقَالَ مَا يَمْنَعُهُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ قُلْتُ يَزْعُمُ أَنَّهُ يَتَوَرَّعُ قَالَ فَأَيْنَ كَانَ وَرَعُهُ لَيْلَةَ نَهَرِ بَلْخَ
He-asws said: ‘What prevents him from that?’ I said, ‘He claims that he is pious’. He-asws said: ‘So where was piety on the night at the river Balkh?
فَقَدِمْتُ عَلَى أَخِي فَقُلْتُ لَهُ ثَكِلَتْكَ أُمُّكَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع وَ سَأَلَنِي عَنْكَ وَ أَخْبَرْتُهُ أَنَّهُ مَرْضِيٌّ عِنْدَ الْجِيرَانِ فِي الْحَالاتِ كُلِّهَا غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ لَا يُقِرُّ بِوَلَايَتِكُمْ فَقَالَ مَا يَمْنَعُهُ ذَلِكَ قُلْتُ يَزْعُمُ أَنَّهُ يَتَوَرَّعُ قَالَ فَأَيْنَ كَانَ وَرَعُهُ لَيْلَةَ نَهَرِ بَلْخَ
I proceeded to my brother. I said to him, ‘May your mother be bereft of you! I entered to see Abu Abdullah and he-asws asked me about you, and I informed him, ‘He is pleasing in the presence of the neighbours in the situations, all of them, apart from that he does not acknowledge with your-asws Wilayah!’ He-asws said: ‘What prevents him from that’. I said, ‘He claims that he is pious’. He-asws said: ‘So where was his piety on the night at river Balkh?’’
فَقَالَ أَخْبَرَكَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بِهَذَا قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّهُ حُجَّةُ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ قُلْتُ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ قِصَّتِكَ
He said, ‘Abu Abdullah-asws informed you with this?’ I said, ‘Yes’. He said, ‘I testify that he-asws is a Divine Authority of Lord-azwj of the worlds!’ I said, ‘Inform me about your story’.
قَالَ أَقْبَلْتُ مِنْ وَرَاءِ نَهَرِ بَلْخَ فَصَحِبَنِي رَجُلٌ مَعَهُ وَصِيفَةٌ فَارِهَةٌ فَقَالَ إِمَّا أَنْ تَقْتَبِسَ لَنَا نَاراً فَأَحْفَظَ عَلَيْكَ وَ إِمَّا أَنْ أَقْتَبِسَ نَاراً فَتَحْفَظَ عَلَيَّ قُلْتُ اذْهَبْ وَ اقْتَبِسْ وَ أَحْفَظُ عَلَيْكَ
He said, ‘I came from behind river Balkh, a man accompanied me, and with him was a beautiful maid. He said, ‘Either you get some fire (firewood) for us and I shall guard (your belongings) for you, or I shall get the fire (firewood), and you guard for me’. I said, ‘Go and fetch, and I shall guard for you’.
فَلَمَّا ذَهَبَ قُمْتُ إِلَى الْوَصِيفَةِ وَ كَانَ مِنِّي إِلَيْهَا مَا كَانَ وَ اللَّهِ مَا أَفْشَتْ وَ لَا أَفْشَيْتُ لِأَحَدٍ وَ لَمْ يَعْلَمْ إِلَّا اللَّهُ
When he went, I stood to the maid, and it happened from me to her what happened. By Allah-azwj! I neither disclosed to him nor did I disclose it to anyone, and no one knew except Allah-azwj’.
فَخَرَجْتُ مِنَ السَّنَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ وَ هُوَ مَعِي فَأَدْخَلْتُهُ عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع فَمَا خَرَجَ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ حَتَّى قَالَ بِإِمَامَتِهِ
I went out in the second year, and he was with me. I entered him to see Abu Abdullah-asws. He did not exit from his-asws presence until he said (believed) in his-asws Imamate’’.[1]
