Muhammad Bin Yaqoub has narrated from a number of our companions from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Khaled from Muhammad Bin Ali Bin Asbat from Ali Bin Jafar that he asked his brother Imam Musa Al Kadhim-asws about the wearing of a ring in the right hand. Imam-asws replied: โ€˜If the man wants he can wear it in his right hand.โ€™ He asked: โ€˜If he likes to wear it in his right or the left?โ€™ He-asws replied: โ€˜In his right or the left.โ€™

Muhammad Bin Idrees writes at the end of his compilation that Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Abu Bazanti, the companion of Al Ridha-asws said that a person asked about the wearing of a ring by a man in his right hand. He-asws said: โ€˜He can wear it in his right hand if he wants or in his left.โ€™

It has been reported from Al Hassan Bin Ali Bin Sheโ€™ba in (Tuhaf Ul Uqool) that the Holy Imam al Hassan Al Askari-asws said to his-asws Shiites in 260AH: โ€˜We had ordered you to wear ring in your right hand, and this was when we-asws were apparent among you, but now we-asws order you to wear it in your left in our absence until such time as Allah-azwj manifests our-asws order and yours, and this is proof of your being in our wilayah of Ahl Ul Bayt-asws.โ€™ Those present there took off rings from their right hands and put them on their left. And then Imam-asws said: โ€˜Narrate this to our Shiites.โ€™

And they have reported from Ahmad from some of our companions from Salih Bin Uqbah from Fuzayl Ibn Uthman from Rabia Al Rayi who said that he saw a carnelian stone in the hand of Ali Bin Al Husayn-asws and asked: โ€˜What is this stone?โ€™ He-asws replied: โ€˜A Roman Carnelian. The Messenger of Allah-saww said: โ€˜Whoever wears the ring of Carnelian will have his needs fulfilled.โ€™

The Allah-azwj said that whoever were to wear the Carnelian, his hand will not get burnt in the fire of Hell provided he loves Ali-asws.โ€™

Al Hassan Bin Muhammad Al Tusi in โ€˜Al Amaliโ€™ narrates from his father from Al Mufeed, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Al HAssan from his father from Muhammad Bin Yahya from Al Hassan Bin Musa Al Khashaab from Ali Bin Al Nuโ€™man from Bashir Al Dahaan that he said to Abu Jaโ€™far-asws: โ€˜Which of the stones shall I embed in my ring?โ€™ He-asws said: โ€˜O Bashir! Why are you unaware of red carnelian and yellow carnelian and white carmelian? These are the three mountains in Paradise.โ€™ Imam-asws then said: โ€˜If any of these were worn by from the Shiites of the Family of the Prophet-saww, he will not see anything but betterment and goodness, and increase in sustenance, security from all the calamities and he will be safe from oppressive rulers and all that the people fear will not affect him.โ€™

And it has been reported from Muhammad Bin Yahya from Ahmad Bin Muhammad from Yaqoub Bin Yazeed from Ibrahim Bin Uqba from Siyaba Bin Ayoub from Muhammad Bin Al Fadhl from Abdul Raheem Al Qaseer who said that the governor summoned a person from the Children of Abu Talib-asws in relation to a crime and he passed Abu Abdullah-asws who-asws said: โ€˜Make him wear a ring of carnelian.โ€™ A carnelian ring was given to him as a result of which no undesirable thing happened to him.

If that had been with him he would not have been flogged.โ€™

Muhammad Bin Ali has narrated from Ali Bin Al Husayn in โ€˜Maโ€™ani Al Akhbarโ€™ from Muhammad Bin Al Hassan from Al Asfar from Yaqoub Bin Yazeed from Muhammad Bin Abu Umayr from Abdul Hameed Bin Abul Aโ€™la that Abu Abdullah-asws said: โ€˜Polytheism is more subtle than the footsteps of an ant.โ€™ And then said: โ€˜From this is the changing of the ring as a reminder of a need and this is doubt.โ€™ I say: โ€˜And this means it is permissible as a reminder of the number of cycles of Prayer with a ring.โ€™

Muhammad Bin Yaqoub narrated from a number of our companions from Ahmad Bin Muhammad from Al Hassan Bin Mahboob from Abdullah Bin Sinan from Abu Abdullah-asws that: โ€˜The inscription on the ring of the messenger of Allah-saww was โ€˜Muhammad the Messenger of Allahโ€™, and the inscription on the ring of the Commander of the Faithful-asws was โ€˜Allah is Kingโ€™ and the inscription on the ring of my father-aswsย  was โ€˜Honour is for Allahโ€™.

And it is narrated from them from Ahmad Bin Abu Abdullah from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Abu Dharr who said: โ€˜We were with Abul Hassan Al Ridha-asws and he-asws brought out the rings of Abu Abdullah-asws and Abul Hassan-asws, and the inscription on the ring of Abu Abdullah-asws was โ€˜You are my Confidant so Protect me from the peopleโ€™, and the inscription of the ring of Abul Hassan-asws was โ€˜sufficient is Allahโ€™ and in them were a rose and a moon at the topโ€™.

And it is from them from Ahmad from his father from Yunus Bin Abdul Rahman who said: โ€˜I asked Abul Hassan Al Ridha-asws about the inscription on his-asws and his fatherโ€™s-asws rings.โ€™ He-asws replied: โ€˜The inscription on my ring is โ€˜Glory be to Allah There is no Power but Allahโ€™, and the inscription on the ring of my father โ€˜Sufficient is Allah and this was the ring that I used to used as a seal.โ€™

He-asws said: โ€˜There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allahโ€™; and it was inscribed on the ring of the Prophet, โ€˜Muhammad is the Messenger of Allahโ€™; and on the ring of the Commander of the Faithful-aswsย  โ€˜Allah is Kingโ€™ and the ring of Al Hassan-asws โ€˜Honour is for Allahโ€™; and the ring of Al Husayn-asws โ€˜Surely Allah Commands whateverโ€™; and the ring of Ali Bin Al Husayn-asws was his fathers and Abu Jaโ€™far The Great-asws was the ring of his forefather Al Husayn-asws and the ring of Jaโ€™far-asws โ€˜Allah is the Guardian and Protects me from peopleโ€™, and Abul Hassan-asws The First โ€˜Allah is Sufficientโ€™; and Abul Hassan-asws The Second โ€˜Glory be to Allah there is no Powers except Allahโ€™. And Husayn Bin Khalid said, he-asws extended his hand and said: โ€˜My ring and my fathers as well.โ€™

First, โ€˜I seek refuge with the Status of Allahโ€™. Second, โ€˜I seek refuge with the Words of Allahโ€™. Third, โ€˜I seek refuge with the Messenger of Allahโ€™. At the bottom of the stone two lines. First, โ€˜I believe in Allah and what He has writtenโ€™; Second, โ€˜I have confidence in Allah and His Messengerโ€™. And write around the stone on the side, โ€˜I bear witness that there is no god but Allah sincerelyโ€™. This is the how the stone should be. Wear this and you will not have difficulties or if you fear harm from one of the people. This will give you success and your fear will decline. And if a woman were to wear this its effect will go to her son. This is the wish of Allah-azwj And effect of the evil eye will also decline. Be careful of it from impurities, and while entering the bathroom and the toilet, and protect it from these are the secrets of Allah-azwj and so guard it.โ€™ Then Al Hassan-asws turned to us and said: โ€˜And if any one of you is afraid of anyone then why doesnโ€™t he do this deed? And hide this from your enemies and do not trust themโ€™ The narrator of this Hadith said: โ€˜I tried this ring and found this to be true, Praise be to Allah-azwj.

Muhammad Bin Al Husayn relates in a chain from Muhammad Bin Ahmad Bin Dawood from Muhammad Bin Hammam from Ja;far Bin Muhammad Bin Malik from Muhammad Bin Shahaab from Abdullah Bin Yunus from Al Mufaddhal from Abu Abdullah-asws that: โ€˜I love to see the believer wearing five rings โ€“ The ring of Ruby (Yaqoot), for it is the best and by Agate/Carnelian (Aqeeq) for its pure to Allah-azwj and to us; and by the Turquoise (Feyrouzaj) for it is an adornment to the beholder from the believing men and believing women and it strengthens the vision and it expands the chest and increased the strength of the heart; and by the Haematite (Hadeed Al Seeni) and I love to see this being worn and there is no disapproval for it to be worn when you meet the mischief makers to extinguish their evil and I love to take it for it displaces the chains of the Jinns and Men; and by that which Allah-azwj has Made apparent by the white stones in the caves (Durr e Najaf).โ€™ He asked: โ€˜O Master! What are the virtues of this one?โ€™ He-aswsย  replied: โ€˜He will see that Allah-azwj has Written for him the rewards of visiting the Prophet-saww and the righteous. Were it not for the Mercy of Allah-azwj towards our Shiites to make this stone available easily, they would not have been able to afford it but Allah-azwj made is cheap for them to wear it, be they rich or poor.โ€™[2]

And the inscription on the ring of Ali-asws was โ€˜The King is Allahโ€™ (Al Malik Allah) and the inscription on the ring of my father was โ€˜The Honour is for Allahโ€™. (Al Izzat Lillah).โ€™

The Holy Imam Jaโ€™far Al Sadiq-asws asked: โ€˜Would you like me to show you that ring?โ€™ We said: Yesโ€™ please. Imam-asws asked for a small box to be brought to him-asws and broke its seal. In it was a ring wrapped around some cotton wool. It was a silver ring with the inscription โ€˜Muhammad the Messenger of Allah-saww over two lines. Imam-asws then said: โ€˜His ring had a black stone in it.โ€™

Muhammad Bin Ali Bin Al Husayn narrated from Hammad Bin Anro and ana Bin Muhammad from his father from Jaโ€™far Bin Muhammad-asws from his fathers-asws in the will of the Holy Prophet-saww to Ali-asws: โ€˜O Ali-asws! Wear the ring on your right hand for it has virtue from Allah-azwj for the near ones.โ€™ He-asws said: โ€˜Which one shall I wear O Messenger of Allah-saww?โ€™ Prophet-saww said: โ€˜Red Carnelian (Aqeeq) for it is the first the first mountain that bore witness to the Nourishment of Allah-azwj, and my Prophethood, and your Trusteeship, and the Imamat of your children, and Paradise for your Shiites and Hell for your enemies.โ€™

It is in the (Al-llal) from Abdul Wahid Bin Muhammad Bin Abdous from Ali Bin Muhammad Bin Qutayba from Al Fadhal Bin Shazaan from Muhammad Bin Abi Umayr who said that he asked Abul HAssan Al Musa-asws: โ€˜Inform me of the ring of the Commander of the Faithful-asws was it in his right hand or what?โ€™ He-asws said: โ€˜He-asws used to wear it in his right hand because the Imam-asws is the companion of the right hand after the Messenger of Allah-asws for there is praise for the companions of the right hand and condemnation of the companions of the left hand. The Messenger of Allah-saww used to wear the ring on his right hand for that is the sign of our Shiites with which they are recognised along with their adherence to the timing of their Prayers and their giving of the Poor-rate and their consolation of their brothers and their enjoining of the good and preventing of the prohibited.โ€™

  1. Imam Al-Askari (peace be upon him) said:

Do not dispute (with others) lest you will lose splendor and do not joke (with everyone) lest you will be disrespected.

  1. Imam Al-Askari (peace be upon him) said:

As for those who accept to sit in a place other than the first row of a session, God and His angels will bless them until they leave that session.

  1. Imam Al-Askari (peace be upon him) answer the man who asked him a miracle or a proof of Imamate:

The punishment will be doubled for those who refuted the miracle or proof of Imamate after it had been presented to them according to their demand. He who shows patience will be supplied with the support of God. People are accustomed to publicize false missives that they themselves forge.[487]ย  We supplicate to God for guiding us (to the right). Matters are either submission or destruction. The end results of everything belong to God.

  1. Imam Al-Askari (peace be upon him) answered the man who reported to him the disagreement of Shias:

God has addressed to the intelligent exclusively. People are of different classes: some are the discerning on a way of salvation; they are holding fast to the right and clinging to the branch of the origin; they are neither doubtful not suspicious; they do not consider a shelter other than me. Some are those who have not received the right from its very people; they are like those who embarked on a ship; they ripple when the sea is wavy and calm down when the sea is calm. Some are those are dominated by the Shaitan; their one and only job is to refute the people of the right and substitute the wrong for the right out of envy. Hence, leave those who went astray to the right and left. When a shepherd wants to gather the hoard, he will not need to exert efforts for so. Beware of divulging our secrets and seeking power, for these two things drive into perdition.

Within the unforgivable sins are the sins whose committers wish if they would not commit anything else.

Polytheism of people is more hidden that the creeping of ants of a black piece of cloth in a gloomy night.

โ€˜Bismillarrahmanirrahim โ€“in the Name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful-โ€™ is as near to the Great Name (of God) as the iris to the white of the eye.

  1. In the time of Imam Al-Hasan Al-Askari (peace be upon him), some of the Shias disagreed about his Imamate; therefore, the following message was publicized carrying his signature:

No one of my fathers suffered the (affliction of the) disagreement of such a group like I did. If this matter of Imamate that you have believed in and embraced is temporary, then I doubt it. If it is as permanent as the affairs of God, then what is the meaning of this doubt?

The mutual love of the pious is a reward for them. The love of the sinful to the pious is a virtue for the pious. The hate of the sinful to the pious is an advantage for the pious. The hate of the pious to the sinful is debasement for the sinful.

To greet everyone you pass by and to sit in a place other than the first class of a session are signs of modesty.

Reasonless laughter is a sign of ignorance.

Within the misfortunes that deal a death blow is the neighbor who overshadows any good feature that he notices and propagandizes any defect that he notices.

  1. Imam Al-Askari (peace be upon him) said to his adherents (Shias):

I command you to fear God, show piety to your religion, work hard for Godโ€™s sake, tell truths only, return the deposits to their owners whether the are pious or sinful, prostrate yourselves before God for a long time, and treat your neighbors courteously. These are the matters that Mohammed (peace be upon him and his family) brought. Offer prayers in the middle of your folks, attend their funeral ceremonies, visit their ill ones, and fulfill their rights. I am pleased if people point to you and say โ€˜this is Shiiteโ€™, when you behave piously, tell truths only, return the deposits to their owners, and conduct courteously with people. Fear God, be good (examples) and do not be evil. Attract peopleโ€™s fondness of us and save us from every awful character, for we are surely the people of every good thing that is said about us, but we are definitely not the owners of any evil thing that is imputed to us. We enjoy a (distinctive) right in the Book of God, a relation (of kinship) to the Messenger of God, and a purification whose source is God. Only can the liars claim of enjoying our distinctive features. Refer to God very much, refer to death, recite the Quran, and bless the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family). A single blessing of the Prophet is ten advantages. Retain the matter of which I have commanded you. God keep you under His supervision. Peace be upon you.

Very much offering of prayers and fasting is not the worship; the very worship is the very much pondering over the affairs of God.

14.Imam Al-Askari (peace be upon him) said:

The worst servant โ€“of God- are those who are two-faced and two-tongued; they praise their present friends and backbite the absent; they envy them for obtaining graces and disappoint them when they suffer a misfortune.

Anger is the key to every evil.

  1. In 260 A.H. [488] , Imam Al-Askari (peace be upon him) said to his adherents:

We have previously ordered you to put the rings in your right hands when we were among you. Now, because you will no longer meet us (normally), we order you to put your rings in your left hands until God make your, as well as our, Question prevalent. This is surely the best proof through which you can prove your being loyal to our leadership; i.e. the leadership of the Prophetโ€™s family.

All the attendants took their rings out of their right hands to put them in the left. The Imam (peace be upon him) then ordered:

Convey this commandment to all of our adherents (Shias).
