Never let People Lead you

Summary:

In our lives, we frequently let people lead us and consequently we get humiliated and distressed. Some Ahadith are presented here where we are advised by the Masomeen-asws to preserve our tongues, gain knowledge and understanding of the religion. And should not let people, out of politeness, to start commanding us. ย The submissive attitude is justifiable only under the conditions of compulsion (Taqeeya โ€“ dissimulation).

Being led brings the disgrace:

ู‚ุฑุจ ุงู„ุฅุณู†ุงุฏ ู…ูุญูŽู…ู‘ูŽุฏู ุจู’ู†ู ุงู„ู’ุญูŽุณูŽู†ู ุนูŽู†ู’ ุนูุซู’ู…ูŽุงู†ูŽ ุจู’ู†ู ุนููŠุณูŽู‰ ุนูŽู†ู’ ุฃูŽุจููŠ ุงู„ู’ุญูŽุณูŽู†ู ุงู„ู’ุฃูŽูˆู‘ูŽู„ู ุน ู‚ูŽุงู„ูŽ ุณูŽู…ูุนู’ุชูู‡ู ูŠูŽู‚ููˆู„ู ู„ูุฑูŽุฌูู„ูโ€ ู„ูŽุง ุชูู…ูŽูƒู‘ูู†ู ุงู„ู†ู‘ูŽุงุณูŽ ู…ูู†ู’ ู‚ููŠูŽุงุฏููƒูŽ ููŽุชูŽุฐูู„ูŽโ€.

(The book) โ€˜Qurb Al Asnadโ€™ โ€“ Muhammad Bin Al-Hassan, from Usman Bin Isa,

โ€˜From Abu Al-Hassan-asws the 1st, he (the narrator) said, โ€˜I heard him-asws saying to a man: โ€˜Do not enable people to lead you for you will be disgracedโ€™โ€™.[1]

Be silent, hold your tongue and donโ€™t load people upon your necks

ุนูŽู†ู’ู‡ู ุนูŽู†ู ุงู„ู’ุญูŽุณูŽู†ู ุจู’ู†ู ู…ูŽุญู’ุจููˆุจู ุนูŽู†ู’ ุฃูŽุจููŠ ุนูŽู„ููŠู‘ู ุงู„ู’ุฌูŽูˆู‘ูŽุงู†ููŠู‘ู ู‚ูŽุงู„ูŽ ุดูŽู‡ูุฏู’ุชู ุฃูŽุจูŽุง ุนูŽุจู’ุฏู ุงู„ู„ู‘ูŽู‡ู ( ุนู„ูŠู‡ ุงู„ุณู„ุงู… ) ูˆูŽ ู‡ููˆูŽ ูŠูŽู‚ููˆู„ู ู„ูู…ูŽูˆู’ู„ู‹ู‰ ู„ูŽู‡ู ูŠูู‚ูŽุงู„ู ู„ูŽู‡ู ุณูŽุงู„ูู…ูŒ ูˆูŽ ูˆูŽุถูŽุนูŽ ูŠูŽุฏูŽู‡ู ุนูŽู„ูŽู‰ ุดูŽููŽุชูŽูŠู’ู‡ู ูˆูŽ ู‚ูŽุงู„ูŽ ูŠูŽุง ุณูŽุงู„ูู…ู ุงุญู’ููŽุธู’ ู„ูุณูŽุงู†ูŽูƒูŽ ุชูŽุณู’ู„ูŽู…ู’ ูˆูŽ ู„ูŽุง ุชูŽุญู’ู…ูู„ู ุงู„ู†ู‘ูŽุงุณูŽ ุนูŽู„ูŽู‰ ุฑูู‚ูŽุงุจูู†ูŽุง .

From him, from Al Hassan Bin Mahboub, from Abu Ali Al Jawwany who said,

โ€˜I witnessed Abu Abdullah-asws, and he-asws was saying to a slave of his-asws called Saalim, and he-asws placed his-asws hand upon his lips and said: โ€˜O Saalim! Preserve your tongue, you will be safe, and do not load the people upon our-asws necksโ€™.[2]

ุนูŽู†ู’ู‡ู ุนูŽู†ู’ ุนูุซู’ู…ูŽุงู†ูŽ ุจู’ู†ู ุนููŠุณูŽู‰ ู‚ูŽุงู„ูŽ ุญูŽุถูŽุฑู’ุชู ุฃูŽุจูŽุง ุงู„ู’ุญูŽุณูŽู†ู ุตูŽู„ูŽูˆูŽุงุชู ุงู„ู„ู‘ูŽู‡ู ุนูŽู„ูŽูŠู’ู‡ู ูˆูŽ ู‚ูŽุงู„ูŽ ู„ูŽู‡ู ุฑูŽุฌูู„ูŒ ุฃูŽูˆู’ุตูู†ููŠ ููŽู‚ูŽุงู„ูŽ ู„ูŽู‡ู ุงุญู’ููŽุธู’ ู„ูุณูŽุงู†ูŽูƒูŽ ุชูุนูŽุฒู‘ูŽ ูˆูŽ ู„ูŽุง ุชูู…ูŽูƒู‘ูู†ู ุงู„ู†ู‘ูŽุงุณูŽ ู…ูู†ู’ ู‚ููŠูŽุงุฏููƒูŽ ููŽุชูุฐูู„ู‘ูŽ ุฑูŽู‚ูŽุจูŽุชูŽูƒูŽ .

From him, from Usman Bin Isa who said,

โ€˜I was present with Abu Al-Hassan-asws and a man said to him: โ€˜Advise meโ€™. So he-asws said to him: โ€˜Preserve your tongue, you will be honoured, and do not enable the people into leading you, so your neck would be disgracedโ€™.[3]

ุญูู…ูŽูŠู’ุฏู ุจู’ู†ู ุฒููŠูŽุงุฏู ุนูŽู†ู ุงู„ู’ุฎูŽุดู‘ูŽุงุจู ุนูŽู†ู ุงุจู’ู†ู ุจูŽู‚ู‘ูŽุงุญู ุนูŽู†ู’ ู…ูุนูŽุงุฐู ุจู’ู†ู ุซูŽุงุจูุชู ุนูŽู†ู’ ุนูŽู…ู’ุฑููˆ ุจู’ู†ู ุฌูู…ูŽูŠู’ุนู ุนูŽู†ู’ ุฃูŽุจููŠ ุนูŽุจู’ุฏู ุงู„ู„ู‘ูŽู‡ู ( ุนู„ูŠู‡ ุงู„ุณู„ุงู… ) ู‚ูŽุงู„ูŽ ูƒูŽุงู†ูŽ ุงู„ู’ู…ูŽุณููŠุญู ( ุนู„ูŠู‡ ุงู„ุณู„ุงู… ) ูŠูŽู‚ููˆู„ู ู„ูŽุง ุชููƒู’ุซูุฑููˆุง ุงู„ู’ูƒูŽู„ูŽุงู…ูŽ ูููŠ ุบูŽูŠู’ุฑู ุฐููƒู’ุฑู ุงู„ู„ู‘ูŽู‡ู ููŽุฅูู†ู‘ูŽ ุงู„ู‘ูŽุฐููŠู†ูŽ ูŠููƒู’ุซูุฑููˆู†ูŽ ุงู„ู’ูƒูŽู„ูŽุงู…ูŽ ูููŠ ุบูŽูŠู’ุฑู ุฐููƒู’ุฑู ุงู„ู„ู‘ูŽู‡ู ู‚ูŽุงุณููŠูŽุฉูŒ ู‚ูู„ููˆุจูู‡ูู…ู’ ูˆูŽ ู„ูŽูƒูู†ู’ ู„ูŽุง ูŠูŽุนู’ู„ูŽู…ููˆู†ูŽ .

Humeyd Bin Ziyad, from Al Khashhab, from Ibn Baqah, from Muaz Bin Sabit, from Amro Bin Jumie,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah-asws having said: โ€˜The Messiah-as was saying: โ€˜Do not frequent with the speech in other than the Remembrance of Allah-azwj, for those who are frequenting the speech in other than the Remembrance of Allah-azwj, it is hardening their hearts, but they are not knowingโ€™.[4]
