Reward for the Ziyarah of Imam Hussain (asws)

 Introduction:

The presented short article below is compiled from one of the most basic books on Ziyarah of Masomeen^-asws, ‘Kamil Al-Ziyarah’, written by Ibn Qulawayh Al-Qummi in the 4^th century. Please note, some of the traditions of Masomeen^-asws on the rewards of Ziyarah of Imam Hussain mention various levels of rewards, which is not due to the contradictions in traditions but simply due to the Marifat of those who were present in front of Masomeen^-asws, but in one of the traditions, Imam Sadiq^-asws has just quoted a Verse from Quran Majeed on the reward of Ziyarah of Imam Hussain^-asws, where Allah^-azwj Says: “If you count the bounties of Allah^-azwj, you will not be able to number them’ (16:18).

The Reward for the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws on the Day of ‘Arafah

1-  حدثني محمد بن جعفر القرشي الرزاز الكوفي عن خاله محمد بن الحسين بن أبي الخطاب عن محمد بن إسماعيل عن صالح بن عقبة عن بشير الدهان قال قلت لأبي عبد الله ع ربما فاتني الحج فأعرف عند قبر الحسين ع فقال أحسنت يا بشير أيما مؤمن أتى قبر الحسين ع عارفا بحقه في غير يوم عيد كتب الله له عشرين حجة و عشرين عمرة مبرورات متقبلات و عشرين غزوة مع نبي مرسل أو إمام عدل و من أتاه في يوم عيد كتب الله له مائة حجة و مائة عمرة و مائة غزوة مع نبي مرسل أو إمام عدل و من أتاه يوم عرفة عارفا بحقه كتب الله له ألف حجة و ألف عمرة متقبلات و ألف غزوة مع نبي مرسل أو إمام عدل قال فقلت له و كيف لي بمثل الموقف قال فنظر إلى شبه المغضب ثم قال يا بشير إن المؤمن إذا أتى قبر الحسين ع يوم‏ عرفة و اغتسل في الفرات ثم توجه إليه كتب الله له بكل خطوة حجة بمناسكها و لا أعلمه إلا قال و غزوة

Muhammad ibn Ja’far Al-Qurashi Al-Razzaz Al-Kufi narrated to me from his uncle Muhammad ibn Hussain ibn Abil Khattab, from Muhammad ibn Isma’il, from Salili ibn ‘Uqbah, from Bashlr Al-Dahhan, who said:

I said to Abi ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws), “Sometimes I miss (the opportunity to go to) Hajj so I go and spend the Day of ‘Arafah next to the grave of Hussain^-asws instead.”

Imam^-asws said:

Very good, O Bashir! Verily Allah^-azwj will Register twenty purified and accepted Hajj, twenty purified and accepted Umrah, and the reward of (fighting in) twenty battles with one of Allah’s messengers or with a Just Imam^-asws for any believer who goes to (the Ziyarah of) the grave of Hussain^-asws knowing his^-asws rights on any day other than an Eid. Allah^-azwj will register one hundred Hajj and ‘Umrah and the reward of (fighting in) one hundred battles with one of Allah’s messengers or with a Just Imam^-asws for anyone who goes to him^-asws (Imam Hussain^-asws) on any Eid day.

Allah^-azwj will register one thousand accepted Hajj and ‘Umrah and the reward of (fighting in) one thousand battles with one of Allah^-azwj’s messengers^-asws or with a Just Imam^-asws for anyone who goes to him (Imam Hussain^-asws) on the Day of ‘Arafah knowing his rights.

I said, “But how can I be anywhere better than ‘Arafat on the day “‘ ‘Arafah?”

Imam^-asws looked at me angrily and said, “O Bashir!   When a believer goes the Ziyarah of the grave of Hussain^-asws on the Day of ‘Arafah after performing Ghusl with the water of the Euphrates (River), Allah will register on (complete) Hajj with all of its rituals for him with every step that he take.”

Bashir added, “I believe that the Imam^-asws also mentioned (that Allah^-azwj will Register the reward of participating in) a battle.”

2-  حدثني أبي ره و علي بن الحسين و محمد بن الحسن ره جميعا عن سعد بن عبد الله عن علي بن إسماعيل بن عيسى عن محمد بن عمرو بن سعيد الزيات عن داود الرقي قال سمعت أبا عبد الله ع و أبا الحسن الرضا ع و هما يقولان من أتى قبر الحسين ع بعرفة أقلبه الله ثلج الفؤاد

My father, ‘Ali ibn Hussain, and Muhammad ibn Hasan all narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillah, from ‘Ali ibn isma’fl ibn Isa, from Muhammad ibn ‘Arm ibn Sa’id Al-Zayyat, from Dawud Al-Raqqi, who said:

I heard Aba ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws), Abal Hasan (Imam Riza^-asws) say:

Allah^-azwj will make those who go to (the Ziyarah of) the grave of Hussain^-asws on the Day of ‘Arafah return with hearts filled with certainty.

3-  و عنهم عن سعد عن الهيثم بن أبي مسروق النهدي عن علي بن أسباط عن بعض أصحابنا عن أبي عبد الله ع قال إن الله تبارك و تعالى يبدأ بالنظر إلى زوار قبر الحسين ع عشية عرفة قال قلت قبل نظره لأهل الموقف قال نعم قلت كيف ذلك قال لأن في أولئك أولاد زنا و ليس في هؤلاء أولاد زنا

My father, ‘Ali ibn Hussain, and Muhammad ibn Hasan all narrated to me from Sa’d (ibn ‘Abdillah), from Haytharn ibn Abi Masruq Al-Nahdi, from ‘All ibn Asbat, from some of our companions, who said:

Abu ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said, “On the eve of ‘Arafah, Allah^-azwj, looks at the Zuwwar of the grave of Hussain^-asws first.”

I asked, “Even before looking at the people who are in ‘Arafat?” Imam^-asws replied, “Yes.”

I asked, “Why is that?”

Imam^-asws replied, “Because there are people who are conceived illegitimately among those who are in ‘Arafat but there is not any illegitimately conceived people among the Zuwwar[1] of Hussain^-asws.”

4-  حدثني أبي عن سعد بن عبد الله عن موسى بن عمر عن علي بن النعمان عن عبد الله بن مسكان قال قال أبو عبد الله ع إن الله تبارك و تعالى يتجلى لزوار قبر الحسين ع قبل أهل عرفات و يقضي حوائجهم و يغفر ذنوبهم و يشفعهم في مسائلهم ثم يأتي أهل عرفة فيفعل ذلك بهم

My father narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillah, from Musa ibn ‘Umar, from ‘Ah ibn Nu’man, from ‘Abdillah ibn Muskan, who said

Abu ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said Verily (on the Day of ‘Arafah), Allah^-azwj, Manifests (His^-azwj Mercy) to the Zuwwar of the grave of Hussain^-asws before He^-azwj does (so) to the people who are in ‘Arafat. He^-azwj fulfils their needs, forgives their sins, and Accepts their intercession for their requests, and thereafter He^-asws attends to the people in ‘Arafat and honours them in the same way.

5-  حدثني أبي رحمه الله و جماعة مشايخي عن محمد بن يحيى العطار عن حمدان بن سليمان النيسابوري أبي سعيد قال حدثنا عبد الله بن محمد اليماني عن منيع بن الحجاج عن يونس بن يعقوب بن عمار عن أبي عبد الله ع قال من فاتته عرفة بعرفات فأدركها بقبر الحسين ع لم يفته و إن الله تبارك و تعالى ليبدأ بأهل قبر الحسين ع قبل أهل عرفات ثم قال يخالطهم بنفسه [في نفسه‏]

My father and all of my scholars narrated to me from Muhammad ibn Yahiya Al ‘Altar, from Abi Sa’id Hamdan ibn Sulayman Al-Naysaburi, from ‘Abdillah Ibn Muhammad Al-Yamani, from Mam’ ibn Hajjaj, from Yunus ibn Ya’qub ibn ‘Ammar, who said:

Abu ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said:

Those who miss (the opportunity of) spending the Day of ‘Arafah in Arafah, but instead spend that day next to the grave of Hussain^-asws, have not missed it.

Verily (on the Day of ‘Arafah), Allah^-azwj Starts with the people who are next to the grave of Hussain^-asws before the people who are in ‘Arafat and then He^-azwj mixes them with Himself.[2]

6-  حدثني أبي ره و علي بن الحسين عن سعد بن عبد الله عن أحمد بن محمد بن ‏عيسى عن محمد بن خالد البرقي عن القاسم بن يحيى بن الحسن بن الراشد عن جده الحسن عن يونس بن ظبيان قال قال أبو عبد الله ع من زار الحسين ع ليلة النصف من شعبان و ليلة الفطر و ليلة عرفة في سنة واحدة كتب الله له ألف حجة مبرورة و ألف عمرة متقبلة و قضيت له ألف حاجة من حوائج الدنيا و الآخرة

My father and ‘Ali ibn Hussain asws both narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillah, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa, from Muhammad ibn Khalid AI-Barki, from Qasim ibn Yahya ibn Hasan ibn Rashid, from his grandfather Hasoil Imm Yunus ibn Zabyan, who said:

Abu ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said:

Allah^-azwj will Register one thousand purified Hajj and one thousand accepted ‘Umrah and will grant one thousand requests pertaining to this life and the Hereafter for those who go to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws on the night of the fifteenth of Sha’ban, on the night of Fitr, and on the night of ‘Arafah all in the same year.

7-  حدثني محمد بن الحسن بن الوليد عن محمد بن الحسن الصفار عن أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى عن محمد بن خالد البرقي عن حنان بن سدير عن أبيه عن أبي عبد الله ع قال إذا كان يوم عرفة أطلع الله تعالى على زوار قبر أبي عبد الله الحسين ع فقال لهم استأنفوا فقد غفرت لكم ثم يجعل إقامته على أهل عرفات

Muhammad ibn Hasan (ibn Ahmad) ibn Walid narrated to me from Muhammad ibn Hasan Al-Saffar, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa, from Muhammad ibn Khalid Al-Barqi, from Hanan ibn Sadir, from his father, who said:

Abu ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said:

On the Day of ‘Arafah, Allah^-azwj, Looks, toward the Zuwwar of the grave of Abi ‘Abdillah AI-Hussain^-asws and Says, “Continue with (good) deeds for I have forgiven you. “Thereafter, Allah^-azwj Attends, to the other people in ‘Arafat”

8-  حدثني محمد بن جعفر عن محمد بن الحسين عمن ذكره عن عمر بن الحسن العرزمي عن أبي عبد الله ع قال سمعته يقول إذا كان يوم عرفة نظر الله إلى زوار قبر الحسين ع فيقول ارجعوا مغفورا لكم ما مضى و لا يكتب على أحد منهم ذنب سبعين يوما من يوم ينصرف

Muhammad ibn Ja’far narrated to me from Muhammad ibn Hussain who he mentioned, from ‘Urnar ibn Hasan Al-‘Arzarni, who said:

I heard Aba ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) say.

On the Day of ‘Arafah, Allah^-azwj Looks toward the Zuwwar of the grave of Al-Hussain^-asws and Says: “Return with your past sins forgiven.” (In addition) no sins will be registered for them for up to seventy days after they return.

9-  حدثني أبي ره و جماعة أصحابي ره عن محمد بن يحيى و أحمد بن إدريس جميعا عن‏ العمركي بن علي عن يحيى الخادم لأبي جعفر الثاني ع عن محمد بن سنان عن بشير الدهان قال سمعت أبا عبد الله ع يقول و هو نازل بالحيرة و عنده جماعة من الشيعة فأقبل إلي بوجهه فقال يا بشير أ حججت العام قلت جعلت فداك لا و لكن عرفت بالقبر قبر الحسين ع فقال يا بشير و الله ما فاتك شي‏ء مما كان لأصحاب مكة بمكة قلت جعلت فداك فيه عرفات فسره لي فقال يا بشير إن الرجل منكم ليغتسل على شاطئ الفرات ثم يأتي قبر الحسين ع عارفا بحقه فيعطيه الله بكل قدم يرفعها و [أو] يضعها مائة حجة مقبولة و مائة عمرة مبرورة و مائة غزوة مع نبي مرسل إلى أعداء الله و أعداء رسوله [إلى أعدى عدو له يا بشير] يا بشير أسمع و أبلغ من احتمل قلبه من زار الحسين ع يوم عرفة كان كمن زار الله في عرشه

My father and all of my scholars narrated to me from Muhammad ibn Yahya, and from Ahmad ibn Idris, from ‘Amraki ibn Ali, from Yahya – the servant of Abi Ja’far^-asws the Second (Imam jawad^-asws), from Muhammad ibn Sinan, from Bashir Al-Dahhan, who said:

I heard Aba ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) speaking in Hirah to a group of Shia surrounding him.

He^-asws turned his face toward me and asked, “O Bashir!   Did you go for Hajj last year?”

I replied, “May I sacrifice myself for you^-asws!   No, but instead I spent the Day of ‘Arafah next to the grave – referring to the grave of Hussain^-asws.”

He^-asws said, “O Bashir!  I say it by Allah^-asws that you did not miss anything (from the blessings) that were in Makkah for those who were there.” I said: “May I sacrifice myself for you^-asws!  Explain this to me, for (the blessings being in) ‘Arafat is (only available) in Makkah.”

Imam^-asws replied:

O Bashir!  Verily every time one of you raises his foot or places it down walking toward the grave of Hussain^-asws while knowing his rights, after performing Ghusl on the shores of the Euphrates (River), Allah^-azwj will Give you the reward of) one hundred accepted Hajj and one hundred purified Umrah and (the reward of) fighting in one hundred battles with one of Allah^-azwj’s Messengers against His^-azwj enemies and the enemies of His^-azwj Messenger^-asws.

O Bashir!  Listen (carefully) and inform (only) those whose hearts can handle this, “those who go to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws on the Day of ‘Arafah are like those who go to the Ziyarah of Allah^-azwj on His^-azwj Throne.”

10-  حدثني محمد بن عبد المؤمن ره عن محمد بن يحيى عن محمد بن الحسن الصفار عن أحمد بن محمد الكوفي عن محمد بن جعفر بن إسماعيل العبدي عن محمد بن عبد الله بن مهران عن محمد بن سنان عن يونس بن ظبيان عن أبي عبد الله ع قال من زار قبر الحسين ع يوم عرفة كتب الله له ألف ألف حجة مع القائم و ألف ألف عمرة مع رسول الله ص و عتق ألف ألف نسمة و حملان ألف ألف فرس في سبيل الله و سماه الله عبدي الصديق أمن بوعدي و قالت الملائكة فلان صديق زكاه الله من فوق عرشه و سمي في الأرض كروبا

Muhammad ibn ‘Abdil Mu”min narrated to me from Muhammad ibn Yahya, from Muhammad ibn Hasan Al-Saffar, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad Al-Kufi, from Muhammad ibn Ja’far ibn Isma’il Al-‘Abdi, from Muhammad ibn Abdillah ibn Mihran, from Muhammad ibn Sinan, from Yunus ibn Zabyan, who said:

Abu ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said:

Allah^-azwj will Register (the reward of performing) one million Hajj with the Qaim^-asws and one million ‘Umrah with the Messenger^-saww of Allah^-azwj, freeing one million slaves, and offering one million horses in the way of Allah^-azwj, for one who goes to the Ziyarah of the grave of Hussain^-asws on the Day of ‘Arafah.

Allah^-azwj will Refer to him as, “My^-azwj Truthful Slave who believed in My^-azwj Promise.” And the angels will add the title “Truthful” to his name and will say, “Allah^-azwj Has Purified him from the top of His^-azwj Throne.”

Imam^-asws added, “He will be referred to as “KARUB”[3] on earth.”

11-  حدثني أبي ره عن سعد بن عبد الله عن أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى عن محمد بن إسماعيل بن بزيع عن صالح بن عقبة عن بشير الدهان قال قال جعفر بن محمد ع من زار قبر الحسين ع يوم عرفة عارفا بحقه كتب الله له ثواب ألف حجة و ألف عمرة و ألف غزوة مع نبي مرسل و من زار أول يوم من رجب غفر الله له البتة

My father narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillah, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa, from Muhammad ibn Isma’il ibn Bazi’, from Salih ibn bah, from Bashir Al-Dahhan, who said:

Jafar ibn Muhammad (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said:

Allah^-asws will Register the reward of one thousand Hajj and one thousand ‘Umrah and the reward of fighting one thousand times with one of Allah^-azwj‘s Messengers^-asws for those who go to the Ziyarah of the grave of Hussain^-asws on the Day of ‘Arafah while knowing his^-asws rights. And surely Allah^-azwj forgives those who go to his^-asws Ziyarah on the first day of Rajab.

12-  حدثني أبي عن سعد بن عبد الله عن محمد بن عيسى بن عبيد عن محمد بن سنان عن أبي سعيد القماط عن يسار عن أبي عبد الله ع قال من كان معسرا فلم يتهيأ له حجة الإسلام فليأت قبر الحسين ع و ليعرف عنده فذلك يجزيه عن حجة الإسلام أما إني لا أقول يجزي ذلك عن حجة الإسلام إلا للمعسر فأما الموسر إذا كان قد حج حجة الإسلام فأراد أن يتنفل بالحج أو العمرة و منعه من ذلك شغل دنيا أو عائق فأتى قبر الحسين ع في يوم عرفة أجزأه ذلك عن أداء الحج أو العمرة و ضاعف الله له ذلك أضعافا مضاعفة قال قلت كم تعدل حجة و كم تعدل عمرة قال لا يحصى ذلك قال قلت مائة قال و من يحصي ذلك قلت ألف قال و أكثر ثم قال و إن تعدوا نعمة الله لا تحصوها إن الله واسع كريم [عليم‏]

My father narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillah, from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa Ibn ‘Ubayd, from Muhammad ibn Sinan, from Abi Sa’eed Al-Qammat, from Yasar, who said:

Abu ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said:

If an insolvent person[4] does not find the means to perform Hajjatul Islam, instead he should go to the grave of Hussain^-asws and spend the Day of ‘Arafah next to his^-asws grave, for this will suffice as having performed Hajjatul Islam.

Beware that I said this will suffice as performing Hajjatul Islam only for an insolvent person.

If a wealthy person has already performed Hajjatul Islam and then decides to go for an additional Hajj or ‘Umrah, but misses it because he was hindered in some way or because he was preoccupied with the matters of this world, but goes to (the Ziyarah of) the grave of Hussain^-asws on the Day of ‘Arafah, this will be sufficient as having performed that (additional) Hajj or ‘Umrnh and Allah^-azwj will multiply the rewards of this act greatly for him.

I asked, “How many Hajj and how many ‘Umrah will be registered for him?”

Imam^-asws‘¹! replied, “It cannot be counted.”

I asked, “(Is it) one hundred?”

Imam^-asws replied, “And who can count it?!”

I asked, “One thousand?”

Imam^-asws replied, “And more.”

Then the Imam^-asws added, “If you count the bounties of Allah^-azwj, you will not be able to number them’ (16:18).  ‘Verily Allah is all-pervading, all-knowing” (2:115).

الباب الحادي و السبعون ثواب من زار الحسين ع يوم عاشوراء

The Reward for the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws on the Day of ‘Ashura

1-  حدثني أبي و أخي و جماعة مشايخي عن محمد بن يحيى عن محمد بن علي المدائني قال أخبرني محمد بن سعيد البجلي عن قبيصة عن جابر الجعفي قال دخلت على جعفر بن محمد ع في يوم عاشوراء فقال لي هؤلاء زوار الله و حق على المزور أن يكرم الزائر من بات عند قبر الحسين ع ليلة عاشوراء لقي الله ملطخا بدمه يوم القيامة كأنما قتل معه في عرصته [عصره‏] و قال من زار قبر الحسين ع أي يوم عاشوراء و [أو] بات عنده كان كمن استشهد بين يديه

My father, my brother and all of my scholars narrated to me limu Muhammad ibn Yahya, from Muhammad ibn ‘All Al-MadEnni, limn Muhammad ibn Sa’Id Al-Bajali, from Qablsah, from Jabir Al-Ju’fi, who said:

I went to Ja’far ibn Muhammad (Imam Sadiq^-asws) on the Day of ‘Ashura’ and he^-asws said to me (as part of a longer Hadith):

These – referring to the Zuwwar of Hussain^-asws – are the Zuwwar of Allah^-azwj and it is an obligation on the host to honour the Zair. Those who spend the night of ‘Ashura next to the grave of Hussain^-asws will meet Allah^-azwj on the Day of Judgment stained with their blood as if they were killed with him on the desert (Karbala). Those who go to the Ziyarah of the grave of Hussain^-asws the Day of ‘Ashura and spend the night next to his grave are like those who were martyred in front of Hussain^-asws.

2-  حدثني أبو علي محمد بن همام قال حدثني جعفر بن محمد بن مالك الفزاري قال حدثني أحمد بن علي بن عبيد الجعفي قال حدثني حسين بن سليمان عن الحسين بن أسد عن حماد بن عيسى عن حريز عن أبي عبد الله ع من زار الحسين يوم عاشوراء وجبت له الجنة

Abu ‘Ali Muhammad ibn Hammam narrated to me from Ja’far ibn Muhammad ibn Malik AI-Fazari, from Ahmad ibn ‘Ali ibn ‘Ubayd Al-Ju’fi, from Hussain ibn ‘sulayman, from Hussain ibn Asad, from Hammad ibn ‘Isa, from Hariz, who said:

Abu ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said:

(Entering) Paradise is made mandatory for those who go to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws on the Day of Ashura.

3-  و حدثني محمد بن عبد الله بن جعفر الحميري عن أبيه عن يعقوب بن يزيد الأنباري عن محمد بن أبي عمير عن زيد الشحام عن أبي عبد الله ع قال من زار قبر الحسين بن علي يوم عاشوراء عارفا بحقه كان كمن زار الله في عرشه

Muhammed ibn ‘Abdillah ibn ja’far Al-Himyari narrated to me from his limn Yaqub ibn Yazfd Al-Anbari, from Muhammad ibn Abf ‘Umayr, from Zayd Alshahham, who said:

Abu ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said:

Those who go to the Ziyarah of the grave of Hussain^-asws ibn ‘Ali^-asws on the Day of ‘Ashura while knowing his^-asws rights are like those who go to the Ziyarah of Allah^-azwj on His Throne.

4-  حدثني الحسين بن محمد بن عامر عن المعلى بن محمد عن محمد بن جمهور العمي عمن ذكره عنهم ع قال من زار [قبر] الحسين ع يوم عاشوراء كان كمن تشحط بدمه بين يديه

Hussain ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Arnir narrated to me from Mu’alla ibn Muhammad, from Muhammad ibn jumhur Al-‘Ammi, from someone whom he mentioned, from them (the infallible Imams^-asws), who said:

Those who go to the Ziyarah of the grave of Hussain^-asws on the Day of ‘Ashura, are like those who were drenched with their blood in front of him^-asws.

–  و روى محمد بن أبي يسار [سيار] المدائني بإسناده قال من سقى يوم عاشوراء عند قبر الحسين ع كان كمن سقى عسكر الحسين ع و شهد معه

Muhammad ibn Abi Sayyar Al-Madalni narrated through his Isnad that:

Those who distribute water (to people) on the Day of ‘Ashura next to the grave of Hussain^-asws are like those who were with Hussain^-asws and distributed water to those in his^-asws camp.

6-  حدثني جعفر بن محمد بن إبراهيم الموسوي عن عبيد الله بن نهيك عن ابن أبي عمير عن زيد الشحام عن جعفر بن محمد الصادق ع قال من زار الحسين ع ليلة النصف من شعبان غفر الله له ما تقدم من ذنوبه و ما تأخر و من زاره يوم عرفة كتب الله له ثواب ألف حجة متقبلة و ألف عمرة مبرورة و من زاره يوم عاشوراء فكأنما زار الله فوق [في‏] عرشه

Jafar ibn Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Al-Musawi narrated to me from ‘Ubaydillah bin Nahik, from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr, from Zayd Al-Shahham, who said:

Ja’far^-asws ibn Muhammad^-asws Al-Sadiq^-asws said:

Allah^-azwj will forgive the past and future sins of those who go to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws on the night of the fifteenth of Sha’ban.

Allah^-azwj will register the reward of one thousand accepted Hajj and one thousand purified ‘Umrah for those who go to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws on the Day of ‘Arafah.

Those who go to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws on the Day of ‘Ashura, it is as if they have gone to the Ziyarah of Allah^-azwj on top of His^-azwj Throne.

7-  حدثني محمد بن عبد الله بن جعفر عن أبيه عبد الله بن جعفر الحميري عن محمد بن الحسين عن حمدان بن المعافي عن ابن أبي عمير عن زيد الشحام عن أبي عبد الله ع و ذكر مثله

The above Hadith has also been narrated to me through the following chain: Muhammad ibn ‘Abdillah ibn ja’far, from his father ‘Abdillah ibn Ja’far Al-Himyari, from Muhammad ibn Hussain, from Hamdan ibn Mu’afa, from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr, from Zayd Al-Shahham, from Abi ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws).

8-  حدثني حكيم بن داود بن حكيم و غيره عن محمد بن موسى الهمداني عن محمد بن خالد الطيالسي عن سيف بن عميرة و صالح بن عقبة جميعا عن علقمة بن محمد الحضرمي و محمد بن إسماعيل عن صالح بن عقبة عن مالك الجهني عن أبي جعفر الباقر ع قال من زار الحسين ع يوم عاشوراء من المحرم حتى يظل عنده باكيا لقي الله تعالى يوم القيامة بثواب ألفي ألف [ألف‏] حجة و ألفي [ألف‏] ألف عمرة و ألفي ألف غزوة و ثواب كل حجة و عمرة و غزوة كثواب من حج و اعتمر و غزا مع رسول الله ص و مع الأئمة الراشدين صلوات الله عليهم أجمعين قال قلت جعلت فداك فما لمن كان في بعد البلاد و أقاصيها و لم يمكنه المصير [المسير] إليه في ذلك اليوم قال إذا كان ذلك اليوم برز إلى الصحراء أو صعد سطحا مرتفعا في داره و أومأ إليه بالسلام و اجتهد على قاتله بالدعاء و صلى بعده ركعتين يفعل ذلك في صدر النهار قبل الزوال ثم ليندب الحسين ع و يبكيه و يأمر من في داره بالبكاء عليه و يقيم في داره مصيبته بإظهار الجزع عليه و يتلاقون بالبكاء بعضهم بعضا في البيوت و ليعز بعضهم بعضا بمصاب الحسين ع فأنا ضامن لهم إذا فعلوا ذلك على الله عز و جل جميع هذا الثواب فقلت جعلت فداك و أنت الضامن لهم إذا فعلوا ذلك و الزعيم به قال أنا الضامن لهم ذلك و الزعيم لمن فعل ذلك قال قلت فكيف يعزي بعضهم بعضا قال يقولون عَظَّمَ اللَّهُ أُجُورَنَا بِمُصَابِنَا بِالْحُسَيْنِ ع وَ جَعَلَنَا وَ إِيَّاكُمْ مِنَ الطَّالِبِينَ بِثَأْرِهِ مَعَ وَلِيِّهِ الْإِمَامِ الْمَهْدِيِّ مِنْ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ص  فإن استطعت أن لا تنتشر يومك في حاجة فافعل فإنه يوم نحس لا تقضي فيه حاجة و إن قضيت لم يبارك له فيها و لم ير رشدا و لا تدخرن لمنزلك شيئا فإنه من ادخر لمنزله شيئا في ذلك اليوم لم يبارك له فيما يدخره و لا يبارك له في أهله فمن فعل ذلك كتب له ثواب ألف ألف حجة و ألف ألف عمرة و ألف ألف غزوة كلها مع رسول الله ص و كان له ثواب مصيبة كل نبي و رسول و صديق و شهيد مات أو قتل منذ خلق الله الدنيا إلى أن تقوم الساعة قال صالح بن عقبة الجهني و سيف بن عميرة قال علقمة بن محمد الحضرمي فقلت لأبي جعفر ع علمني دعاء أدعو به في ذلك اليوم إذا أنا زرته من قريب و دعاء أدعو به‏ إذا لم أزره من قريب و أومأت إليه من بعد البلاد و من سطح داري بالسلام قال فقال يا علقمة إذا أنت صليت ركعتين بعد أن تومئ إليه بالسلام و قلت عند الإيماء إليه و من بعد الركعتين هذا القول فإنك إذا قلت ذلك فقد دعوت بما يدعو به من زاره من الملائكة و كتب الله لك بها ألف ألف حسنة و محا عنك ألف ألف سيئة و رفع لك مائة ألف [ألف‏] درجة و كنت ممن استشهد مع الحسين بن علي حتى تشاركهم في درجاتهم و لا تعرف إلا في الشهداء الذين استشهدوا معه و كتب لك ثواب كل نبي و رسول و زيارة من زار الحسين بن علي ع منذ يوم قتل

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ابْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا خِيَرَةَ اللَّهِ وَ ابْنَ خِيَرَتِهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ابْنَ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَ ابْنَ سَيِّدِ الْوَصِيِّينَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ابْنَ فَاطِمَةَ سَيِّدَةِ النِّسَاءِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ثَارَ اللَّهِ وَ ابْنَ ثَارِهِ وَ الْوِتْرُ الْمَوْتُورُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ وَ عَلَى الْأَرْوَاحِ الَّتِي حَلَّتْ بِفِنَائِكَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنِّي جَمِيعاً سَلَامُ اللَّهِ أَبَداً مَا بَقِيتُ وَ بَقِيَ اللَّيْلُ وَ النَّهَارُ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ لَقَدْ عَظُمَتِ الْمُصِيبَةُ بِكَ عَلَيْنَا وَ عَلَى جَمِيعِ أَهْلِ السَّمَاوَاتِ فَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ أُمَّةً أَسَّسَتْ أَسَاسَ الظُّلْمِ وَ الْجَوْرِ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَ لَعَنَ اللَّهُ أُمَّةً دَفَعَتْكُمْ عَنْ مَقَامِكُمْ وَ أَزَالَتْكُمْ عَنْ مَرَاتِبِكُمُ الَّتِي رَتَّبَكُمُ اللَّهُ فِيهَا وَ لَعَنَ اللَّهُ أُمَّةً قَتَلَتْكَ وَ لَعَنَ اللَّهُ الْمُمَهِّدِينَ لَهُمْ بِالتَّمْكِينِ مِنْ قِتَالِكُمْ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِنِّي سِلْمٌ لِمَنْ سَالَمَكُمْ وَ حَرْبٌ لِمَنْ حَارَبَكُمْ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ فَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ آلَ زِيَادٍ وَ آلَ مَرْوَانَ وَ لَعَنَ اللَّهُ بَنِي أُمَيَّةَ قَاطِبَةً وَ لَعَنَ اللَّهُ ابْنَ مَرْجَانَةَ وَ لَعَنَ اللَّهُ عُمَرَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ وَ لَعَنَ اللَّهُ شِمْراً وَ لَعَنَ اللَّهُ أُمَّةً أَسْرَجَتْ وَ أَلْجَمَتْ وَ تَهَيَّأَتْ لِقِتَالِكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَ أُمِّي لَقَدْ عَظُمَ مُصَابِي بِكَ فَأَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي أَكْرَمَ مَقَامَكَ أَنْ يُكْرِمَنِي بِكَ وَ يَرْزُقَنِي طَلَبَ ثَارِكَ مَعَ إِمَامٍ مَنْصُورٍ مِنْ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ص اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي وَجِيهاً بِالْحُسَيْنِ ع عِنْدَكَ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَ الْآخِرَةِ يَا سَيِّدِي يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَتَقَرَّبُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَ إِلَى رَسُولِهِ وَ إِلَى أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَ إِلَى فَاطِمَةَ وَ إِلَى الْحَسَنِ وَ إِلَيْكَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْكَ وَ سَلَّمَ بِمُوَالَاتِكَ وَ الْبَرَاءَةِ مِمَّنْ قَاتَلَكَ وَ نَصَبَ لَكَ الْحَرْبَ وَ مِنْ جَمِيعِ أَعْدَائِكُمْ وَ بِالْبَرَاءَةِ مِمَّنْ أَسَّسَ الْجَوْرَ وَ بَنَى عَلَيْهِ بُنْيَانَهُ وَ أَجْرَى ظُلْمَهُ وَ جَوْرَهُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَ عَلَى أَشْيَاعِكُمْ بَرِئْتُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَ إِلَيْكُمْ مِنْهُمْ وَ أَتَقَرَّبُ إِلَى اللَّهِ ثُمَّ إِلَيْكُمْ بِمُوَالَاتِكُمْ وَ مُوَالَاةِ وَلِيِّكُمْ وَ الْبَرَاءَةِ مِنْ أَعْدَائِكُمْ وَ مِنَ النَّاصِبِينَ لَكُمُ الْحَرْبَ وَ الْبَرَاءَةِ مِنْ أَشْيَاعِهِمْ وَ أَتْبَاعِهِمْ إِنِّي سِلْمٌ لِمَنْ سَالَمَكُمْ وَ حَرْبٌ لِمَنْ حَارَبَكُمْ مُوَالٍ لِمَنْ وَالَاكُمْ وَ عَدُوٌّ لِمَنْ عَادَاكُمْ فَأَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي أَكْرَمَنِي بِمَعْرِفَتِكُمْ وَ مَعْرِفَةِ أَوْلِيَائِكُمْ وَ رَزَقَنِي الْبَرَاءَةَ مِنْ أَعْدَائِكُمْ أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِي مَعَكُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَ الْآخِرَةِ وَ أَسْأَلُهُ أَنْ يُبَلِّغَنِي الْمَقَامَ الْمَحْمُودَ لَكُمْ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ وَ أَنْ يَرْزُقَنِي طَلَبَ ثَارِكُمْ مَعَ إِمَامٍ مَهْدِيٍّ نَاطِقٍ لَكُمْ وَ أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ بِحَقِّكُمْ وَ بِالشَّأْنِ الَّذِي لَكُمْ عِنْدَهُ أَنْ يُعْطِيَنِي بِمُصَابِي بِكُمْ أَفْضَلَ مَا أَعْطَى مُصَاباً بِمُصِيبَةٍ أَقُولُ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَ إِنَّا إِلَيْهِ راجِعُونَ يَا لَهَا مِنْ مُصِيبَةٍ مَا أَعْظَمَهَا وَ أَعْظَمَ رَزِيَّتَهَا فِي الْإِسْلَامِ وَ فِي جَمِيعِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَ الْأَرَضِينَ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي فِي مَقَامِي هَذَا مِمَّنْ تَنَالُهُ مِنْكَ صَلَوَاتٌ وَ رَحْمَةٌ وَ مَغْفِرَةٌ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ مَحْيَايَ مَحْيَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ مَمَاتِي مَمَاتَ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ هَذَا يَوْمٌ تَنْزِلُ فِيهِ اللَّعْنَةُ عَلَى آلِ زِيَادٍ وَ آلِ أُمَيَّةَ وَ ابْنِ آكِلَة الْأَكْبَادِ اللَّعِينِ بْنِ اللَّعِينِ عَلَى لِسَانِ نَبِيِّكَ فِي كُلِّ مَوْطِنٍ وَ مَوْقِفٍ وَقَفَ فِيهِ نَبِيُّكَ ص اللَّهُمَّ الْعَنْ أَبَا سُفْيَانَ وَ مُعَاوِيَةَ وَ عَلَى يَزِيدَ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ اللَّعْنَةُ أَبَدَ الْآبِدِينَ اللَّهُمَّ فَضَاعِفْ عَلَيْهِمُ اللَّعْنَةَ أَبَداً لِقَتْلِهِمْ الْحُسَيْنَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَتَقَرَّبُ إِلَيْكَ فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ وَ فِي مَوْقِفِي هَذَا وَ أَيَّامِ حَيَاتِي بِالْبَرَاءَةِ مِنْهُمْ وَ بِاللَّعْنِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَ بِالْمُوَالَاةِ لِنَبِيِّكَ وَ أَهْلِ بَيْتِ نَبِيِّكَ ص ثُمَّ تَقُولُ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ اللَّهُمَّ الْعَنْ أَوَّلَ ظَالِمٍ ظَلَمَ حَقَّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آخِرَ تَابِعٍ لَهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ اللَّهُمَّ الْعَنِ الْعِصَابَةَ الَّتِي حَارَبَتِ الْحُسَيْنَ ع وَ شَايَعَتْ وَ بَايَعَتْ عَلَى قَتْلِهِ وَ قَتْلِ أَنْصَارِهِ اللَّهُمَّ الْعَنْهُمْ جَمِيعاً ثُمَّ قُلْ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَ عَلَى الْأَرْوَاحِ الَّتِي حَلَّتْ بِفِنَائِكَ وَ أَنَاخَتْ بِرَحْلِكَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنِّي سَلَامُ اللَّهِ أَبَداً مَا بَقِيتُ وَ بَقِيَ اللَّيْلُ وَ النَّهَارُ وَ لَا جَعَلَهُ اللَّهُ آخِرَ الْعَهْدِ مِنْ زِيَارَتِكُمْ السَّلَامُ عَلَى الْحُسَيْنِ وَ عَلَى عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ وَ أَصْحَابِ الْحُسَيْنِ صَلَوَاتُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِمْ أَجْمَعِينَ ثُمَّ تَقُولُ مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً اللَّهُمَّ خُصَّ أَوَّلَ ظَالِمٍ ظَلَمَ آلَ نَبِيِّكَ بِاللَّعْنِ ثُمَّ الْعَنْ أَعْدَاءَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَ الْآخِرِينَ اللَّهُمَّ الْعَنْ يَزِيدَ وَ أَبَاهُ وَ الْعَنْ عُبَيْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ زِيَادٍ وَ آلَ مَرْوَانَ وَ بَنِي أُمَيَّةَ قَاطِبَةً إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ثُمَّ تَسْجُدُ سَجْدَةً تَقُولُ فِيهَا اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ حَمْدَ الشَّاكِرِينَ عَلَى مُصَابِهِمْ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَى عَظِيمِ رَزِيَّتِي فِيهِمْ اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْنِي شَفَاعَةَ الْحُسَيْنِ يَوْمَ الْوُرُودِ وَ ثَبِّتْ لِي قَدَمَ صِدْقٍ عِنْدَكَ مَعَ الْحُسَيْنِ وَ أَصْحَابِ الْحُسَيْنِ الَّذِينَ بَذَلُوا مُهَجَهُمْ دُونَ الْحُسَيْنِ ع قَالَ يَا عَلْقَمَةُ إِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ تَزُورَهُ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ بِهَذِهِ الزِّيَارَةِ مِنْ دَهْرِكَ فَافْعَلْ فَلَكَ ثَوَابُ جَمِيعِ ذَلِكَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى

Hukaym ibn Dawud ibn Hukaym and others narrated to me from Muhammad Ibn Musa Al-Hamdani, from Muhammad ibn Khalid Al-Tayalisi, from Sayf ibn ‘Amirah, and from Salih ibn ‘Uqbah, from ‘Alqamah ibn  Muhammad Al-Hadrami, who said:

Abu Ja’far (Imam Baqi^-asws) said:

Those who go to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws on the tenth day of Muharram (Ashura) and spend the night next to him, crying over him, will meet Allah^-azwj, with the reward of two million Hajj and two million ‘Umrah and the reward of fighting two million battles (in the way of Allah^-azwj). In addition, the reward for each one of these Hajj, ‘Umrah, and battles will be equivalent to the reward of those who have gone to Hajj and ‘Umrah and have fought with the Messenger of Allah^-azwj and the Righteous Imams^-asws

I asked, “May I sacrifice myself for you^-asws! What about those who, are in distant lands and far countries and cannot travel to him^-asws on that day?”

Imam^-asws replied:

On the Day of ‘Ashura, in the middle of the day and before noon, they should go to a desert or to an elevated part of their house and direct their Salam to Hussain^-asws by pointing toward him^-asws, curse his^-asws killers increasingly, and establish two Rak’ah of prayers. Then they should mourn and cry over Hussain^-asws, order everyone in their house to cry over him^-asws, hold (a gathering) in their house (in which) Hussain^-asws‘s tragedies (are mentioned) and become restless over (the tragedies of) Hussain^-asws, and meet one another in their houses while crying and consoling one another over the tragedy of Hussain^-asws.

Verily if they do this, I guarantee that Allah^-azwj, the Great and Almighty, will Register all of those rewards (mentioned for going to his Ziyarah on the Day of ‘Ashura) for them.

I asked, “May I sacrifice myself for you^-asws! Will you guarantee and promise these rewards for those who do this?”

Imam^-asws replied: ‘I guarantee and promise these rewards for those who do this.’

I asked: ‘How should they console one another?’

Imam replied: ‘They should say:

عَظَّمَ اللَّهُ أُجُورَنَا بِمُصَابِنَا بِالْحُسَيْنِ ع وَ جَعَلَنَا وَ إِيَّاكُمْ مِنَ الطَّالِبِينَ بِثَأْرِهِ مَعَ وَلِيِّهِ الْإِمَامِ الْمَهْدِيِّ مِنْ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ص

May Allah^-azwj increase our rewards for being grieved over the tragedy of Hussain^-asws and may Allah^-azwj make us and you among those who seek to avenge them^-la with his^-asws heir^-ajfj[5], the Rightly Guided Imam^-ajfj, from the family of Mohammed^-saww.

Imam^-asws added:

If possible, do not attempt to fulfil your needs on this day, for verily it is an ominous day when needs are not fulfilled. And even if they are fulfilled, one will not be blessed with them nor will he find any success in them.

Do not buy or take anything to your house on this day. Verily those who they take to their houses do will not find any blessings in that nor will they be blessed with their families.

Allah^-azwj will register the reward of one million Hajj, one million ‘Umrah, and one million battles (in the way of Allah^-azwj) for those who follow these (instructions), and all of this will be registered as if it was done with the Messenger of Allah^-azwj.

They will also earn the reward of (being afflicted by) the tragedies of all of the prophets^-asws, Messengers^-asws, truthful ones^-as, and the martyrs who died (naturally) or were killed since the day Allah^-azwj Created this world until the rising of the Hour.

Salih ibn ‘Uqbah Al-Juhani and Sayf ibn ‘Amirah narrated that ‘Alqamah ibn Muhammad Al-Hadrami, added[6]:

I said to Abi Ja’far (Imam Baqir^-asws), “Teach me an invocation that I can recite on that day if I perform his^-asws Ziyarah from near (his grave) and an invocation that I can recite if I cannot perform his^-asws Ziyarah from near (his grave) and have to direct my Salam to him by pointing toward him from distant lands on the roof of my house.

Imam^-asws replied:

O ‘Alqamah![7] If you establish two Rak’ah of prayers after directing your Salam to him^-asws by pointing toward him^-asws and then recite the following Invocation while directing your Salam to him^-asws, then you have invoked Allah^-azwj with that with which the angels invoke Him^-azwj, when they perform the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws and Allah^-azwj will Register one million good deeds for you, erase one million bad deeds for you, and add one hundred million ranks to your rank.

You will be considered among those who were martyred with Hussain^-asws ibn Ali^-asws and you will be considered among their^-asws companions.  You will not be known for except being among the martyrs who were martyred with him^-asws and the reward of every Prophet^-asws, every Messenger^-asws, and every person who has gone to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws ibn Ali^-asws since the day he^-asws was killed will registered for you.

(You should recite the following):

السلام عليك يا أبا عبد الله السلام عليك يا ابن رسول الله السلام عليك يا خيرة الله و ابن خيرته السلام عليك يا ابن أمير المؤمنين و ابن سيد الوصيين السلام عليك يا ابن فاطمة سيدة نساء العالمين

Salam to you, O Aba  ‘Abdillah^-asws. Salam to you, O son of the Messenger of Allah^-saww.  Salam to you^-asws, O Choice of Allah^-azwj and the son of His^-azwj Choice.   Salam to you^-asws, O son of the Commander of the Believers^-asws and the son of the Master of the Successors^-asws.  Salam to you^-asws, O son of Fatimah^-asws, the Master of the Women of the Worlds.

السلام عليك يا ثار الله و ابن ثاره و الوتر الموتور

Salam to you, O the one whose avenger is Allah^-azwj and O son of the one^-asws whose avenger is Allah^-azwj.   Salam to you, O the one^-asws who has not been avenged yet and who has yet to seek vengeance (against those who killed his^-asws family members^-asws).

السلام عليك و على الأرواح التي حلت بفنائك و أناخت برحلك عليكم مني جميعا سلام الله أبدا ما بقيت و بقي الليل و النهار

Salam to you and to the souls who dismounted at your vicinity stayed in your caravan[8].  I pray that Allah^-azwj‘s Salam be upon all of you for as long as I live and for as long as there are nights and days.

يا أبا عبد الله لقد عظمت الرزية و جلت المصيبة بك علينا و على جميع أهل السماوات و الأرض

O Aba ‘Abdillah^-asws! The calamity is very painful and your^-asws tragedy is a great disaster for us and for all of the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth.

فلعن الله أمة أسست أساس الظلم و الجور عليكم أهل البيت

May Allah^-azwj ‘s curse be upon the party who laid the foundation of oppression and injustice against you^-asws, the Ahlul Bayt^-asws.

و لعن الله أمة دفعتكم عن مقامكم و أزالتكم عن مراتبكم التي رتبكم الله فيها

May Allah^-azwj ‘s curse be upon the party who kept you^-asws away from your positions and dethroned you from the posts in which Allah^-azwj had placed you^-asws.

و لعن الله أمة قتلتكم و لعن الله الممهدين لهم بالتمكين من [قتالك‏] قتالكم

May Allah^-azwj ‘s curse be upon the party who killed you^-asws and may Allah^-azwj‘s curse be upon those who made the arrangements for them to be able to fight against you^-asws.

برئت إلى الله و إليكم منهم و من أشياعهم و أتباعهم

I seek nearness to Allah^-azwj and to you^-asws by disassociating myself from them^-la, from their followers^-la, and from those who obey them^-la.

يا أبا عبد الله إني سلم لمن سالمكم و حرب لمن حاربكم إلى يوم القيامة

O Aba Abdillah^-asws! Verily I make peace with those who are at peace with you^-asws and I am at war against those who are at war against you^-asws until the Day of Judgement.

فلعن الله آل زياد و آل مروان و لعن الله بني أمية قاطبة و لعن الله ابن مرجانة و لعن الله عمر بن سعد و لعن الله شمرا و لعن الله أمة أسرجت و ألجمت و تهيأت لقتالك

May Allah^-azwj ‘s curse be upon the family of Ziyad^-la and upon the family of Marwan^-la, and may Allah^-azwj‘s curse be upon all of the Bam Umayyah^-la. May Allah^-azwj‘s curse be upon the son of Marjanah^-la. May Allah^-azwj‘s curse be upon ‘Umar ibn Sa’d^-la. May Allah^-azwj‘s curse be upon Shimr^-la. And may Allah^-azwj‘s curse be upon the party that bridled and saddled (their sumpters) in preparation to fight you^-asws.

يا أبا عبد الله بأبي أنت و أمي لقد عظم مصابي بك فأسأل الله الذي أكرم مقامك أن يكرمني بك و يرزقني طلب ثارك مع إمام منصور من آل محمد ص

O Aba ‘Abdillah^-asws!  May I sacrifice my father and mother for yourself^-asws. Being afflicted by your^-asws tragedy is extremely painful for   me. Therefore, I ask Allah^-azwj, who has Honoured your^-asws status, to honour me through you^-asws by sustaining me to seek your revenge along with the supported Imam^ajfz from the family of Muhammad^-saww.

اللهم اجعلني وجيها عندك بالحسين [بالحسين عندك‏] في الدنيا و الآخرة

O Allah^-azwj! Dignify me in Your Eyes through Hussain^-asws in this life and in the Hereafter.

يا سيدي يا أبا عبد الله إني أتقرب إلى الله تعالى و إلى رسوله و إلى أمير المؤمنين و إلى فاطمة و إلى الحسن و إليك صلى الله عليك و سلم و عليهم بموالاتك يا أبا عبد الله و بالبراءة من أعدائك و ممن قاتلك و نصب لك الحرب و من جميع أعدائكم و بالبراءة ممن أسس الجور و بنى عليه بنيانه و أجرى ظلمه و جوره عليكم و على أشياعكم

O my master^-asws, O Aba ‘Abdillah^-asws! I seek nearness to Allah^-azwj, to His Messenger^-saww, to the Commander of the Believers^-asws, to Fatimah^-asws, to Hasan^-asws, and to you^-asws – may Allah^-azwj‘s blessing and Salam be upon you^-asws and upon them^-asws – by loving you, O Aba ‘Abdillah^-asws, and by disassociating from your^-asws enemies^-la, from those who fought you^-asws and incited war against you^-asws, and from all of your^-asws enemies; and by disassociating from those^-la who laid the foundation of injustice and built the structure of oppression and injustice against you and against your Shia.

برئت إلى الله و إليكم منهم و أتقرب إلى الله ثم إليكم بموالاتكم و موالاة وليكم و البراءة من أعدائكم و من الناصبين لكم الحرب و البراءة من أشياعهم و أتباعهم

I seek nearness to Allah^-azwj and to you^-asws by disassociating myself from them^-la.  And I seek nearness to Allah^-azwj and then to you^-asws by loving you^-asws and loving your^-asws followers, by disassociating from your enemies and from those who Incite war against you^-asws, and by disassociating from their^-la followers and those^-la who obey them^-la.

إني سلم لمن سالمكم و حرب لمن حاربكم و ولي [موال‏] لمن والاكم و عدو لمن عاداكم

Verily I make peace with those who are at peace with you^-asws, I am at war against those^-la who are at war against you^-asws, I befriend those who befriend you^-asws, and I antagonize those^-la who antagonize you^-asws.

فأسأل الله الذي أكرمني بمعرفتكم و معرفة أوليائكم و رزقني البراءة من أعدائكم أن يجعلني معكم في الدنيا و الآخرة و أن يثبت لي عندكم قدم صدق في الدنيا و الآخرة و أسأله أن يبلغني المقام المحمود لكم عند الله و أن يرزقني طلب ثاركم مع إمام مهدي ناطق لكم

I ask Allah^-azwj, who honoured me with knowing you^-asws and knowing your^-asws friends and sustained me with disassociation from your^-asws enemies^-la, and allow me to be with you^-asws in this life and in the Hereafter and to keep my foot steady on the path of truth with you in this life and in the Hereafter. And I ask Him^-azwj to allow me to come to the Praised Status that you^-asws have with Allah^-azwj. And I ask Allah to sustain me with seeking your^-asws revenge along with the Rightly Guided Imam^-ajfj who will speak for you ^-asws.

و أسأل الله بحقكم و بالشأن الذي لكم عنده أن يعطيني بمصابي بكم أفضل ما أعطي مصابا بمصيبة [بمصيبته‏]

I ask Allah^-azwj, through you^-asws and through your^-asws rank with Him^-azwj, in recompense me for being afflicted by your^-asws tragedy with the best reward that He^-azwj has ever given to anyone who has ever been afflicted by a tragedy.

أقول إنا لله و إنا إليه راجعون يا لها من مصيبة ما أعظمها و أعظم رزيتها في الإسلام و في جميع أهل السماوات و الأرض [الأرضين‏]

I say, “Verily we are Allah’s and verily to Him we shall return” (2:156). What a tragedy! How great it is and how great of a calamity this is for Islam and for all of the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth!

اللهم اجعلني في مقامي هذا ممن ‏تناله منك صلوات و رحمة و مغفرة

O Allah^-azwj!  Make me in this very place among those who receive Your^-azwj Blessings, Your^-azwj Mercy, and Your^-azwj Forgiveness.

اللهم اجعل محياي محيا محمد و آل محمد و مماتي ممات محمد و آل محمد ص

O Allah^-azwj!  Make me live the way Muhammad^-saww and the family of Muhammad^-asws lived and (make me) die the way Muhammad^-saww and the family of Muhammad^-asws died.

اللهم إن هذا يوم تنزلت [تنزل‏] فيه اللعنة على آل زياد و آل أمية و ابن آكلة الأكباد اللعين بن اللعين على لسان نبيك في كل موطن و موقف وقف فيه نبيك ص

O Allah^-azwj! This is the day that the curse descended upon the family of Ziyad^-la, the family of Umayyah^-la, and the son of the Eater of the Livers[9] – the cursed one and the son of the cursed one – who were (both) cursed by the tongue of Your Prophet^-saww in every land and every place where Your Prophet^-saww stopped.

اللهم العن أبا سفيان و معاوية و على يزيد بن معاوية اللعنة أبد الآبدين اللهم فضاعف عليهم اللعنة أبدا لقتلهم الحسين ع

O Allah^-azwj!  Curse Aba Sufyan^-la and Mu’awiyah^-la.  Curse be upon Yazid, son of Mu’awiyah^-la, for all eternity. O Allah^-azwj!   Multiply the curses on them for killing Hussain^-asws.

اللهم إني أتقرب إليك في هذا اليوم في موقفي هذا و أيام حياتي بالبراءة منهم و اللعنة [باللعن‏] عليهم و بالموالاة لنبيك محمد و أهل بيت نبيك صلى الله عليه و عليهم أجمعين

O Allah^-azwj! I seek nearness to You^-azwj on this day and in this very place and everyday of my life by disassociating myself from them^-la, by cursing them^-la, and by adhering to Your^-azwj Prophet Muhammad^-saww and the family of Your Prophet^-saww – may Allah’s blessing be upon him^-asws and upon all of them.

ثم تقول مائة مرة

Then say one hundred times:

اللهم العن أول ظالم ظلم حق محمد و آل محمد [آل محمد حقوقهم‏] و آخر تابع له على ذلك اللهم العن العصابة التي حاربت [جاهدت‏] الحسين و شايعت و بايعت [تابعت‏] أعداءه على قتله و قتل أنصاره اللهم العنهم جميعا

O Allah^-azwj! Curse the first oppressor who usurped the rights of Muhammad^-saww and the family of Muhammad^-asws and curse every last person who followed him in that regard. O Allah^-azwj! Curse the party who fought against Hussain^-asws, and paid allegiance to his^-asws enemies^-la and followed them^-la in killing Hussain^-asws and killing his^-asws supporters. O Allah^-azwj! Curse them all.

ثم قل مائة مرة

Then Say 100 times:

السلام عليك يا أبا عبد الله و على الأرواح التي حلت بفنائك و أناخت برحلك عليكم مني سلام الله أبدا ما بقيت و بقي الليل و النهار و لا جعله الله آخر العهد من زيارتكم السلام على الحسين و على علي بن الحسين و على أصحاب الحسين صلوات الله عليهم أجمعين

Salam to you^-asws, O Aba ‘Abdillah^-asws and to the souls who dismounted at your vicinity and stayed in your caravan. I pray that Allah^-azwj‘s Salam be upon you for as long as I live and for as long as there is a night and a day. May Allah^-azwj not make this the last time I perform your Ziyarah. Salam upon Hussain^-asws, upon ‘Ali^-asws ibn Hussain^-asws, upon the children^-asws of Hussain^-asws, and upon the companions^-ra of Hussain^-asws – may Allah^-azwj‘s blessings be upon all of them^-asws.

ثم تقول مرة واحدة

Then say one time:

اللهم خص أنت أول ظالم ظلم آل نبيك باللعن ثم العن أعداء آل محمد من الأولين و الآخرين اللهم العن يزيد و أباه و العن عبيد الله بن زياد و آل مروان و بني أمية قاطبة إلى يوم القيامة

O Allah^-azwj! (I ask that) You^-azwj specifically curse the first oppressor who oppressed the family of Your^-azwj Prophet^-saww, and then curse the enemies of the family of Muhammad^-asws from the first^-asws to the last^-asws. O Allah^-azwj! Curse Yazid^-la and his father, curse ‘Ubaydallah ibn Ziyad^-la, and curse the family of Marwan^-la and all of the Bam Umayyah^-la until the Day of Judgment.

ثم تسجد سجدة تقول فيها

Then go in to prostration and say:

اللهم لك الحمد حمد الشاكرين على مصابهم الحمد لله على عظيم مصابي و رزيتي فيهم اللهم ارزقني شفاعة الحسين يوم الورود و ثبت لي قدم صدق عندك مع الحسين و أصحاب الحسين الذين بذلوا مهجهم دون الحسين ع صلوات الله عليهم أجمعين

O Allah^-azwj! Praise be to You^-azwj, the praise of those^-asws who are thankful in their tragedies. Praise be to Allah^-azwj for the Greatness of my grief over their^-asws (the Ahlul Bayt^-asws) disaster and calamity.

O Allah^-azwj! Sustain me with the intercession of Hussain^-asws on the Day of Entering (the desert of Judgment) and keep my foot steady on the path of truth with Hussain^-asws and the companions of Hussain^-asws, who offered the blood of their hearts for the sake of Hussain^-asws – may Allah^-azwj’s blessings be upon all of them^-asws.

قال علقمة قال أبو جعفر الباقر ع يا علقمة إن استطعت أن تزوره في كل يوم بهذه الزيارة من دهرك فافعل فلك ثواب جميع ذلك إن شاء الله تعالى

Alqamah added:

Abu Ja’far (Imam Baqir^-asws) said, “O ‘Alqamah! If you can perform his Ziyarah by reading this Ziyarah every day of your life, do so, for Allah^-azwj -Willing you will have all of the rewards (which I mentioned).”

The above Hadith has also been narrated to me through the following chain: Mohammad ibn Isma’Il, from Salih ibn ‘Uqbah, from Malik Al-Juhani, from Abi Jafar^-asws.

ثواب زيارة الحسين ع في النصف من شعبان

The Reward of the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws on the Fifteenth of Shaban

1-  حدثني أبي و علي بن الحسين و محمد بن يعقوب ره جميعا عن علي بن إبراهيم بن هاشم عن أبيه عن بعض أصحابه عن هارون بن خارجة عن أبي عبد الله ع قال إذا كان النصف من شعبان نادى مناد من الأفق الأعلى زائري الحسين ع ارجعوا مغفورا لكم ثوابكم على الله ربكم و محمد نبيكم

My father, Ali ibn Hussain^-asws, and Mohammed ibn Yaqub all narrated to me from ‘Ali ibn Ibrahim ibn Yaqub all narrated to me from Ali ibn Ibrahim ibn Hashim, from his father, from some of his companions, from Harum ibn Kharijah, who Said:

Abu Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said: ‘On the fifteen of Shaban, a caller calls out from the highest horizon: ‘O those who have come to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws! Return forgiven and your rewards will be given (to you) by Allah^-azwj, Your Lord, and by Mohammad^-saww, your Prophet.

2-  حدثني أبي رحمه الله و جماعة مشايخي عن سعد بن عبد الله عن الحسن بن علي الزيتوني و غيره عن أحمد بن هلال عن محمد بن أبي عمير ره عن حماد بن عثمان عن أبي بصير عن أبي عبد الله ع و الحسن بن محبوب عن أبي حمزة عن علي بن الحسين ع قالا قالا من أحب أن يصافحه مائة ألف نبي و أربعة و عشرون ألف نبي فليزر قبر أبي عبد الله الحسين بن علي ع في النصف من شعبان فإن أرواح النبيين ع يستأذنون الله في زيارته فيؤذن لهم منهم خمسة أولو العزم من الرسل قلنا من هم قال نوح و إبراهيم و موسى و عيسى و محمد صلى الله عليهم أجمعين قلنا له ما معنى أولي العزم قال بعثوا إلى شرق الأرض و غربها جنها و إنسها

‘Ali ibn Hussain (Imam Sajjad^-asws) said: ‘Those who would like to shake their hands with one hundred and twenty-four thousand prophets^-as, should go to the Ziyarah of the grave of Abi ‘Abdillah alHussain^-asws ibn ‘Ali^-asws on the fifteenth of Sha’ban.

Verily the souls of Prophets^-as, including the five ULUL ‘AZM^-as[10] Messengers^-as, ask Allah’s permission (on that day) to go to his^-asws Ziyarah and they are permitted to (go).

We asked, “Who are the five Ulul ‘Azm (prophets^-as)?”

Imam^-asws replied, “Nuh^-as, Ibrahim^-as, Musa^-as, ‘lsa^-as, and Muhammad^-asws.”

We asked, “What does Ulul ‘Azm mean?”

Imam^-asws replied, “They (are the prophets who) were sent to the East and the West of the earth and to (all of) Jinn and mankind.”

The above Hadith has also been narrated to me through the following chain; My father and all of my scholars, from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillah, from Hasan ibn ‘Ali Zaytuni, and from others, from Ahmad ibn Hilal, from Muhammad ibn Abi ‘Umayr, from Hammad ibn ‘Uthman, from Abi Basir, from Abi ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws).

3-  حدثني أبي رحمه الله و جماعة مشايخي عن محمد بن يحيى العطار عن محمد بن الحسين عن إبراهيم بن هاشم عن صندل عن هارون بن خارجة عن أبي عبد الله ع قال إذا كان النصف من شعبان نادى مناد من الأفق الأعلى زائري الحسين ع ارجعوا مغفورا لكم ثوابكم على ربكم و محمد نبيكم

My father and all of my scholars narrated to me from Muhammad ibn Yahya AI-‘Aftar, from Muhammad ibn Hussain, from Ibrahim ibn Hashim, from Sandal, from Harun ibn Kharijah, who said:

Abu ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said:

On the fifteenth of Sha’ban, a caller calls out from the highest horizon: ‘O those who have come to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws! Return forgiven and your rewards will be given (to you) by your Lord and by Muhammad^-saww, your Prophet..

4-  و رواه صافي البرقي عن أبي عبد الله ع قال من زار أبا عبد الله ع ثلاث سنين متواليات لا فصل فيها في النصف من شعبان غفر له ذنوبه

Safi AI-Barqi narrated that:

Abu ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said: ‘The sins of those who go to the Ziyarah of Abi ‘Abdillah (Imam Hussain^-asws) on the fifteenth of Sha’ban, for three consecutive years without a break will be forgiven.’

5-  و بإسناده عن داود بن كثير الرقي قال قال الباقر ع زائر الحسين ع في النصف من شعبان يغفر له ذنوبه و لن يكتب عليه سيئة في سنة حتى يحول عليه الحول فإن زار في السنة المقبلة غفر الله له ذنوبه

My father narrated to me through his Isnad from Dawud ibn Kuthayr Al-Raqqi, who said:

Imam Baqir^-asws said:

The sins of those who go to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws on the fifteenth of Sha’ban will be forgiven and no bad deeds will be registered for them in that year. And if they go to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws again (on the fifteenth of Sha’ban of) the next year, Allah^-azwj will Forgive all of their sins.

6-  حدثني جماعة مشايخي عن محمد بن يحيى العطار عن الحسين بن أبي سارة المدائني عن يعقوب بن يزيد عن ابن أبي عمير عن عبد الرحمن بن الحجاج أو غيره اسمه الحسين قال قال أبو عبد الله ع من زار قبر الحسين ع ليلة من ثلاث ليال غفر الله له ما تقدم من ذنبه و ما تأخر قال قلت أي الليالي جعلت فداك قال ليلة الفطر و ليلة الأضحى و ليلة النصف من شعبان

All of my scholars narrated to me from Muhammad ibn Yahya Al-‘Attar, from Hussain ibn Abi Sarah Al-MadiTini, from Ya’qub ibn Yazld, from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr, from ‘Abdil Rahman ibn Hajjaj, or from someone else named Hussain, who said:

Abu ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said:

Allah^-azwj will forgive all of the past and future sins of those who go to the Ziyarah of the grave of Hussain^-asws on one of three nights.

I asked, “May I sacrifice myself for you^-asws!  What are the three nights?

Imam^-asws replied, “The night of Fitr[11], the night of Adha[12], and the night of the 15^th of Sha’ban.

7-  و حدثني أبي و علي بن الحسين و جماعة مشايخي عن سعد بن عبد الله‏ عن أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى عن محمد بن خالد عن القاسم بن يحيى عن جده الحسين بن راشد عن يونس بن ظبيان قال قال أبو عبد الله ع من زار الحسين ع ليلة النصف من شعبان و ليلة الفطر و ليلة عرفة في سنة واحدة كتب الله له ألف حجة مبرورة و ألف عمرة متقبلة و قضيت له ألف حاجة من حوائج الدنيا و الآخرة فصل ما يجب العمل به ليلة النصف من شعبان

My father, ‘Ali ibn Hussain and all of my scholars narrated to me from ilni ‘Abdillah, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Musa, from Muhammad bin Khailid, from Qasim ibn Yahya, from his grandfather Hasan ibn Rashid, Yunus ibn Zabyan, who said:

Abu ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said:

Allah^-azwj will Register one thousand purified Hajj and one thousand accepted ‘Umrah and will Grant one thousand requests pertaining to this life and the Hereafter for those who go to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws on the night of the 15^th of Sha’ban, on the night of Fitr, and on the night of ‘Arafah all in the same year.

8-  سالم بن عبد الرحمن عن أبي عبد الله ع قال من بات ليلة النصف من شعبان بأرض كربلاء فقرأ ألف مرة قل هو الله أحد و يستغفر الله ألف مرة و يحمد الله ألف مرة ثم يقوم فيصلي أربع ركعات يقرأ في كل ركعة ألف مرة آية الكرسي وكل الله تعالى به ملكين يحفظانه من كل سوء و من شر كل شيطان و سلطان و يكتبان له حسناته و لا تكتب عليه سيئة و يستغفران له ما داما معه ما شاء الله

Salim ibn ‘Abdil Rahman narrated that:

Abu ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said:

Allah^-azwj will dedicate two angels to those who spend the night of the 15^th of Sha’ban in Karbala and who do the following:

Recite (the chapter of) “Qul Huwa Allah” one thousand times, seek forgiveness from Allah^-azwj (Astaghfirullah wa Atubu llayh) one thousand times, praise Allah^-azwj  (Alhamdu Lillah) one thousand times, and then establish four Rak’ah of Salat by reciting “Ayatul Kursi” (Verses: 2:255-257) one thousand times in each Rak’ah (after reciting; Verse of Al-Hamd).

The two angels will protect them from any harm and from the evil of every Shaytan and every ruler. They will only register their good deeds and no bad deeds will be registered for them. The two angels will (continuously) seek forgiveness for them as long as they are with them.

9-  حدثني محمد بن عبد الله بن جعفر الحميري عن أبيه عن يعقوب بن يزيد عن محمد بن أبي عمير عن زيد الشحام عن أبي عبد الله ع قال من زار قبر الحسين ع في النصف من شعبان غفر الله له ما تقدم من ذنبه و ما تأخر

Muhammad ibn ‘Abdillah ibn Ja’far Al-Himyari narrated to me from his father, from Ya’qub ibn Yazid, from Muhammad ibn Abi ‘Umayr, from Zayd Al-Shahham, who said:

Abu ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said:     Allah^-azwj will Forgive all of the past and future sins of those who go to the Ziyarah of the grave of Hussain^-asws on the 15^th of Sha’ban.

10-  حدثني أبو عبد الله محمد بن أحمد بن يعقوب بن إسحاق بن عمار عن علي بن الحسن بن علي بن فضال عن محمد بن الوليد عن يونس بن يعقوب قال قال أبو عبد الله ع يا يونس ليلة النصف من شعبان يغفر الله لكل من زار الحسين ع من المؤمنين ما تقدم من ذنوبهم و ما تأخر و قيل لهم استقبلوا العمل قال قلت هذا كله لمن زار الحسين ع في النصف من شعبان فقال يا يونس لو أخبرت الناس بما فيها لمن زار الحسين ع ‏لقامت ذكور الرجال على الخشب

Abu ‘Abdillah Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Ya’qub ibn Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar narrated to me from ‘Ali ibn Hasan ibn ‘Ali ibn Faddat, from Muhammad ibn Waihd, from Yunus ibn Ya’qub, who said:

Abu ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said:

O Yunus!  Allah^-azwj will Forgive all of the past and future sins of those believers who go to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws on the night of the 15^th of Sha’ban and they will be told, “Go toward (committing) good deeds.”

I asked: “All of this (will be registered) for those who go to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws on the 15^th of Sha’ban?”

Imam^-asws replied, “O Yunus! If I tell people about that which will be given to those who go to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws on this night, they would travel in line on wood (placed on the back of saddleless camels) to go to him^-asws.”

11-  حدثني جعفر بن محمد بن عبد الله بن موسى عن عبيد الله بن نهيك عن ابن أبي عمير عن زيد الشحام عن جعفر بن محمد ع قال من زار [قبر] الحسين ع ليلة النصف من شعبان غفر الله له ما تقدم من ذنوبه و ما تأخر و من زاره يوم عرفة كتب الله له ثواب ألف حجة متقبلة و ألف عمرة مبرورة و من زاره يوم عاشوراء فكأنما زار الله [في‏] فوق عرشه

Jafar ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Abdillah ibn musa narrated to me from ‘Ubayd lbn Nahik, from Ibn Abl ‘Umayr, from Zayd Al-Shahharn, who said:

Jafar ibn Muhammad (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said:

Allah^-azwj will Forgive the past and future sins of those who go to the Ziyarah of the grave of Hussain^-asws on the night of the 15^th of Sha’ban.

Allah^-azwj will Register the reward of one thousand accepted Hajj and one thousand purified ‘Umrah for those who go to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws on the day of ‘Arafah. Those who go to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws on the Day of ‘Ashura, it is as if they have gone to the Ziyarah of Allah^-azwj on top of His Throne.

ثواب من زار الحسين ع في رجب

The Reward of the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws in Rajab

1-  حدثني أبو علي محمد بن همام بن سهيل عن أبي عبد الله جعفر بن محمد بن مالك عن الحسن بن محمد الأبزاري عن الحسن بن محبوب عن أحمد بن محمد بن أبي نصر البزنطي قال سألت أبا الحسن الرضا ع في أي شهر نزور الحسين ع قال في النصف من رجب و النصف من شعبان و رواه أحمد بن هلال عن أحمد بن محمد بن أبي نصر عن أبي الحسن الرضا ع مثله غير أنه قال أي الأوقات أفضل أن تزور فيه الحسين

Abu ‘Ali Muhammad ibn Hammam ibn Suhayl narrated to me from Abi ‘Abdillah ja’far ibn Muhammad ibn Malik, from Hasan ibn Muhammad Al- Abzari, from Hasan ibn Mahbub, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Abl Nasr Al-Bizanti, who said:

I asked Abal Hasan (Imam Raza^-asws), “In which month should we go to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws?”

Imam^-asws replied, “On the 15^th of Rajab and the 15^th of Sha’ban.”

The above Hadith has also been narrated through the following chain: Ahmad ibn Hilal, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Abid Nasr, from Abil Hasan, Imam Rida. However, the question reads, “When is the best time to go to Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws.

2-  حدثني أبي عن سعد بن عبد الله عن أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى عن محمد بن إسماعيل بن بزيع عن صالح بن عقبة عن بشير الدهان عن جعفر بن محمد ع قال من زار الحسين ع يوم عرفة عارفا بحقه كتب الله له ثواب ألف حجة و ألف عمرة و ألف غزوة مع نبي مرسل من زاره أول يوم من رجب غفر الله له البتة

My father narrated to me from Sad ibn Abdillah, from Ahmad ibn Mohammed ibn Isa, from Mohammad ibn Ismail ibn Bazi, from Salih ibn Uqbah, from Bashir Al-Dahhan, who said:

Jafar ibn Mohammad (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said:

Allah will register the reward of one thousand Hajj and one thousand Umrah and the reward of fighting one thousand times with one of Allah^-azwj’s Messengers^-as for those who go to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws on the day of the Arafah while knowing his^-asws rights.  And surely Allah^-azwj forgives those who go to his Ziyarah on the first day of Rajab.

ثواب من زار الحسين ع في غير يوم عيد و لا عرفة

The Reward of the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws on Any Day Other than an Eid and the Day of Arafah

1-  حدثني محمد بن جعفر عن محمد بن الحسين بن أبي الخطاب عن محمد بن إسماعيل عن صالح بن عقبة عن بشير الدهان قال قال أبو عبد الله ع أيما مؤمن زار الحسين ع عارفا بحقه في غير عيد و لا عرفة كتب الله له عشرين حجة و عشرين عمرة مبرورات متقبلات و عشرين غزوة مع نبي مرسل أو إمام عدل

Muhammad ibn Ja’far narrated to me from Muhammad ibn Hussain ibn Abil Khattab, from Muhammad ibn Isma’Il, from Salih ibn ‘Uqbah, from Bashir Al-Dahhan, who said:

Abu ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said:

Allah^-azwj will Register twenty purified and accepted Hajj and ‘Umrah and the reward of (fighting in) twenty battles with one of Allah^-azwj‘s messengers^-asws or with a Just Imam^-asws for any believer who goes to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws knowing his^-asws rights on any day other than an Eid and the Day of ‘Arafah.

The above Hadith has also been narrated to me through the following chain: My father, from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillah, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa, limn Muhammad ibn Isma’Il ibn BazI’, from Salih ibn ‘Uqbah, from Bashir Al-Dihhan, from Abi ‘Abdillah^-asws.

2-  و عنه عن محمد بن الحسين عن محمد بن صالح عن عبد الله بن هلال عن أبي عبد الله ع قال قلت جعلت فداك ما أدنى ما لزائر الحسين ع فقال لي يا عبد الله إن أدنى ما يكون له أن الله يحفظه في نفسه و ماله حتى يرده إلى أهله فإذا كان يوم القيامة كان الله الحافظ له حدثني أبي ره عن سعد بن عبد الله عن أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى عن محمد بن إسماعيل بن بزيع عن صالح مثل حديثه الأول في الباب

Muhammad ibn Ja’far narrated to me from Muhammad ibn Al-Hussain who heard it from Muhammad ibn Salih, from ‘Abdillah ibn Hilal, who said:

I asked Aba ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws), “May I sacrifice myself for you^-asws! What is the minimum reward for those who go to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws?”

Imam^-asws replied, “O ‘Abdallah! Verily the minimum (reward) for them is that Allah^-azwj will protect them and their possessions until they return to their families, and on the Day of Judgment, Allah^-azwj (Himself) will be their Protector.

3-  حدثني أبي ره عن سعد بن عبد الله عن أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى عن أحمد بن إدريس عن العمركي بن علي البوفكي عن صندل عن داود بن يزيد عن أبي عبد الله ع قال من زار قبر الحسين ع في كل جمعة غفر الله له البتة و لم يخرج من الدنيا و في نفسه حسرة منها و كان مسكنه في الجنة مع الحسين بن علي ع ثم قال يا داود من لا يسره أن يكون في الجنة جار الحسين ع قلت من لا أفلح

My father narrated to me from Sad ibn Abdillah, from Ahmad ibn Mohammed ibn Isa, from Ahmad ibn Idris, from Amraki ibn Ali al Bufaki, from Sandal, from Dawud ibn (Abi) Yazid, who said:

Abu Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said: Allah^-azwj will surely forgive those who go to the Ziyarah of the grave of Hussain^-asws every week. They will not leave this life with any sorrows about it and they will dwell with Hussain^-asws ibn Ali^-asws in Paradise.  O Dawud! Who does not like to be the neighbour of Hussain in Paradise?!!!

I replied, only those who have not achieved salvation.

4-  و عنه عن أحمد بن إدريس عن العمركي عن صندل عن داود بن فرقد قال قلت لأبي عبد الله ع ما لمن زار الحسين ع في كل شهر من الثواب قال له [من الثواب‏] ثواب مائة ألف شهيد مثل شهداء بدر

My father narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillah, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa, (and) from Ahmad ibn Idris, from ‘Amraki, from Sandal, from Dawud ibn Farqad, who said:

I asked Abu ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws), what is the reward for those who go to the Ziyarah of Hussain^-asws every month?

Imam replied, they will earn the reward of one 100,000 martyrs like the martyrs of (the battle of) Badr.

5-  و بإسناده عن صندل عن أبي الصباح الكناني عن أبي عبد الله ع قال إذا كان ليلة القدر فيها يفرق كل أمر حكيم نادى مناد تلك الليلة من بطنان العرش إن الله قد غفر لمن زار قبر الحسين ع في هذه الليلة

My father narrated to me from Ahmad ibn Idris, from ‘Amraki, from Sandal, Abil Sabbah Al-Kinani, who said:

Abu ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws) said:

On the night of Qadr, “wherein every affair of wisdom is made distinct” (44:4), a caller will call out from within the Throne, “Verily Allah^-azwj has forgiven everyone who has come to the Ziyarah of the grave of Hussain^-asws on this night.

6-  حدثني محمد بن يعقوب عن محمد بن يحيى العطار عن محمد بن الحسين بن أبي الخطاب عن محمد بن إسماعيل بن بزيع عن صالح بن عقبة عن بشير الدهان قال قلت لأبي عبد الله ع ربما فاتني الحج فأعرف عند قبر الحسين ع قال أحسنت يا بشير أيما مؤمن أتى قبر الحسين ع عارفا بحقه في غير يوم عيد و لا عرفة كتب الله له عشرين حجة و عشرين عمرة مبرورات متقبلات و عشرين غزوة مع نبي مرسل أو إمام عدل و من أتاه في يوم عيد و ذكر الحديث بطوله

Muhammad ibn Ya’qub narrated to me from Muhammad ibn Yahya Al-‘Attar, who from Muhammad ibn Hussain ibn Abil Khattab, from Muhammad ibn Isma’il llm Uazi’, from Salih ibn ‘Uqbah, from Bshir Al-Dahhan, who said:

I said to Abi ‘Abdillah (Imam Sadiq^-asws), “Sometimes I miss (the opportunity to go to) Hajj so I go and spend the Day of ‘Arafah next to the grave of Hussain^-asws instead.”

Imam^-asws  said:

Very good, O Bashir! Verily Allah^-azwj will Register twenty purified and accepted Hajj and ‘Umrah and the reward of (fighting in) twenty battles with one of Allah^-azwj‘s messengers^-as or with a Just Imam^-asws for any believer who goes to (the Ziyarah of) the grave of Hussain^-asws knowing his^-asws rights on any day other than an Eid and the Day of ‘Arafah.

[2] Allah mixing the Zuwwar with Himself refers to mixing them with His special Blessings.

[3] A High rank angel

[4] Whose liabilities exceed his assets, bankrupt.

[7] The famous Zirat of Alqamah is referred to this companion of Imam^asws.

[8] Those who were martyred along with Imam Hussain^asws in Karbala.

[9] Hinda, wife of Abu Safwan

[10] Five those Prophets which brought Divine Books

[11] The eve of the 1^st day of the month of Shawwal.

[12] The eve of the 9^th day of the month of Zilhajj.
